Vice President Joe Biden threw the opening pitch today for Major League Baseball's 2009 season, taking the mound at Camden Yards for the season opener between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees.
President Barack Obama was in Istanbul.
This was one of 12 games played on opening day.
Another well-known pitcher took the mound for the Texas Rangers opener, as our colleagues at the Top of the Ticket noted.
Former President George W. Bush tossed the opening pitch for the Rangers, the team he ran as managing partner -- and on which he made $15 million in the sale of the team -- before his political career "took off'' and he became governor of Texas.
Bush, 62, made a rare public appearance in his still-young retirement before the Rangers took on the Cleveland Indians.

How many shoes were thrown on the ballfield in Texas? Or were fans required to check their shoes at the door?

W would only throw the ball if the official game rules were to be ignored and shredded, as decided in a pregame meeting with officials. Records of that meeting are guarded by executive privilege.
After rubbing the ball in mud, later determined to be BS, the ball veered to the far right although Bush said afterward that he wanted it to spin down the center. He also said he wanted to protect home plate, although there was no batter up at the time.

Hey lefties! You're real funny. Now I'm sure Joe Biden will claim at his next campaign event "I played in the majors...and, oh by the way...I pitched a perfect game too!"
NOBAMA! NO SOCIALISM!!!!!
