In that bottomless pit that is cable news commentary, a new voice steps into the evening lineup tonight: "Ed."
"It's short, sweet and to the point,'' MSNBC's Ed Schultz says of The Ed Show making its debut at 6 pm EDT. "Let's keep this simple, it's just Ed.''
So Chris Matthews, he of the Hardball kickoff of the evening run on the network that has staked itself squarely on the opposite side of the political spectrum from the conservative evening run of the FOX News Channel, wants to know where "Ed'' places himself in the hometeam lineup that that includes Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
'"You're part of a Chris sandwich,'' Matthews tells "Ed.''
"I'm a progressive, liberal on a lot of issues,'' says Ed. "But I'm also pragmatic on the issues of what's needed to turn this country around.'' That ranges from education to manufacturing, he suggests and "'m not going to back away from the word 'liberal,' I am not going to back away from the word 'progressive'...
"I also am going to be true to the facts. I think that's what we've gotten away from this country,'' Ed says. "We've bought a lot of propaganda, and we're in a heck of a pickle jar right now.''

I thought the first half of his debut show last night was pretty good. But the second half...not so much. I really don't like a format with three guests with differing opinions on all at the "same time" because they just try to talk over one another and you can't hear any of them.
