As a freshman senator, Obama once said so, according to the leader.

As a senator, Barack Obama once said: ''I have a gift.''

So says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of the junior senator from Illinois who did not serve as senator from Illinois very long before becoming president.

In a 15-page epilog to the paperback version of Reid's book, The Good Fight, coming out May 5, the Nevada Democrat writes of "The Obama Era.'' A copy of the epilog was provided to the Associated Press.

Reid writes of being impressed with Obama when the then-freshman delivered a speech about then-President George W. Bush's war policy.

"''That speech was phenomenal, Barack,' I told him,'' Reid writes. "And I will never forget his response. Without the barest hint of braggadocio or conceit, and with what I would describe as deep humility, he said quietly: 'I have a gift, Harry."'

Obama was more humble, however, about his hopes of winning the presidency when the majority leader spoke to him about it in 2006. "I was resolved to stay neutral in the coming campaign, but I told him that in my view the stars could align for him,'' Reid writes. "''If you want to be president, you can be president now,' I said. 'I don't know, Harry,' he said. 'I don't think so."'

The AP provided these accounts.

What's wrong with confidence in a politician? Isn't that an admirable quality, especially in our president?

Obama should be more open with his background, especially being President-
Mainly proving where he was born.

Like him or dislike him, he does have a gift.

Sure, he has a gift. He has LOTS of gifts ...

Some useless DVDs for the Prime Minister; an ipod for the queen; two toy models of Marine One for the PM's boys (ala Michelle my Belle); a bow for a Saudi King; a warm embrace for a Venezuelan dictator

and don't get me started on his cabinet choice "gifts".

Inky, it is difficult to believe that people can be so utterly ignorant as to still be attempting to question President Obama's legitimacy. If that is all you have in opposition, you truly have nothing.

He certainly does have a gift, only when he has his teleprompter. Sen. Harry Reid is only doing his part to promote his comrade in politicking. From watching the president all through the campaign, looking into his teleprompters, head held high, disparaging all who disagree with his worldview, calling himself "the one you've been waiting for", I can't help but feel skeptical about this claim. As for delivery skills, even Adolf Hitler had a gift for that and he didn't even need a teleprompter. The delivery skills aren't what qualify a person for president, but what they are delivering. On Sen. Harry Reid's terms, even Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin would have made a decent president, as long as he was a Democrat, that is.

The gift of BS.

And I have a hairball. Good god, what an arrogant egotist.

Keep whining, reactionary neocon nutballs. With your policies discredited, your disastrous $4 trillion sandbox war winding down, your destruction of the economy being righted, your love of torture being reversed, I guess whining's all you've got left. Why develop new policy when there's a chance to complain about the man who's fixing your decade of terrible mistakes.

As for the speech in question, it really is gifted. Here it is: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Barack_Obama%27s_Iraq_Speech

I have not listened to one of his speeches. He does not get a chance to come into my living room.

Willful ignorance is not something to brag about.

Barack is the man now and will be. Those of you have nothign to say can only end up finding yourselves whining, funny eh? Look at him, then look at yourself. If you are not any match, hold your peace and relax, so far he's doing well. His approval rates are still high. Respect for him.....go, go, Barack, go all the way to the end of your second term as president.

Well there you have it-

Obama claims he has a "gift" , Fab backs him up with facts like "look at him" and " hold your peace and relax" because his "approval rates are high"...

- proving that Obama's only gift is his ability to hypnotize small minded people into telling others to not think critically or challenge the messiah....

Kate-
The cards are on the table. read um to suit yourself.

When Einstein divorced his first wife, he offered her the proceeds of his Nobel Prize in settlement.

The only problem was, he hadn't won it yet. He won it several years later.

That's confidence.

There's nothing wrong with Obama making this remark in a private conversation with Harry Reid.

What's tacky is Reid divulging it.

Right, heartburn.

Whilst mental giants like yourself are in thrall to the soaring oratory of George W. Bush.

Obama does have a gift and that statement was meant to be taken literally. He has a true talent that is found in a very small percentage of the human race. That talent is called true charisma and the vast majority of the human race has never been exposed to it.

True charisma is the ability to convince anyone you're talking to that you are telling the absolute truth. This effect takes place even if you KNOW that the person is wrong. It doesn't make any difference, you believe.

In fact, very often the person is wrong, because true charisma does not have anything to do with actual knowledge, it only has to do with perception. But, the charismatic doesn't know they're wrong and neither do you if you are in their presence.

I don't expect most of you to believe this, but ... it doesn't matter, Obama knows he has the gift and he "knows" that if he can sit down with anyone, he will be able to convince them of the "truth."

What he doesn't know is that he's enemies, the leaders of countries who would like to see us destroyed, also have this gift, and are therefore innoculated against Obama ... this will ultimately cause him to fail. ... Hopefully, he won't bring the U.S. down with him.

By the way, the term Kook-Aid Drinker came from the actions of a large group of people who were following a true charismatic and drank the Kool-Aid, forced thier children to drink it, even though they knew what they were doing.

This will give you some idea as to the power of the true charismatic.

BO has a gift, however, we are going to be paying the bill for a long time

Gift, my ---. A gift for reading a TelePrompter--if it runs at the right speed.

He has the GIFT of GAB, that's all, but so does a car salesmen.

Honesty is not an area Obama is particularly gifted in. How about some forthright details of your activities and associates as a student in NYC, Comrade O?

He is so in love with himself it is sickening. I guess if the press was as enchanted with me as they are with him I would be full of it too. What about his wife waring 540.00 sneakers to feed the poor. Do you hear the press getting on that?
