As you've probably already noticed, the de rigueur spate of First 100 Day stories about President Barack Obama has begun, even though "the Hallmark Holiday'' of Day 100, as Obama aide David Axelrod puts it, as our friends at Politico.com note, won't arrive until April 29.
Ever since Franklin Delano Roosevelt's flourish of activity at the start of his Depression Era presidency, we all have been watching the First 100 Days of the many presidents who have followed with an eye to ready judgment. (Americans already have cast some judgments of their own, as today's run of polls on Obama shows.)
Editors Jim Vandehei and John Harris at Politico, which admittedly is engaged in its own 100 Days opus, a magazine coming out Friday, think they've broken the code about what the Obama White House wants everyone to know about the president's First 100 Days.
The Obama talking points break down this way, they say (with our proofs added):
"Obama is a promise-keeper.'' Just ask the CIA.
"Obama is a game-changer.'' Ask Al Gonzales.
"Obama is the decider.'' Ask the Portuguese Water Dog Club.
"Obama's not in the bubble.'' Ask his BlackBerry.
"Obama is not FDR.'' Ask Sarah Palin, but don't use the initials.
"Obama is FDR.'' Ask John McCain.
"Obama is one cool cucumber.'' Ask Stevie Wonder.

The real tragedy is that, at such a desperate moment in our history, true conservatives have a vital role to play. Add together the bank bailouts, the stimulus package and the Obama budget, and what you get is a massive borrowing plan destined to impact the lives of every taxpayer for a generation. What the country needs from the opposition is an intellectually serious attempt to rein in unnecessary waste and spending. But the Republicans pissed away their credibility on fiscal conservatism over the past eight years and then monstrously compounded matters this year by leaning on their shovels and generally half-assing their way through the budget debate, saving the few bullets they had left for a fracking estate-tax exemption.
Way to take your jobs seriously, you clowns. And you wonder why you lost the White House?

Actually, Kenneth S. sums things up nicely. Illinois, Cook County, and Chicago have all suffered by having one-party rule. The Republican circular firing squad is a disservice to the nation, and to the region. A good, honest, debate of ideas can bring out the best in us. And it keeps excesses (and corruption) in check. The rampant Republican waste over the past 8 years has harmed us grievously. The Democrats in the Congress could have done more over the past two of those 8 years. Now the Republicans need to step up as a party of ideas and constructive criticism. I hope everyone will just grow up and work to make things better. Worship, hate and living in an echo-chamber are not good things for the body politic.

.
The piss poor way you spell leads me to believe that it's probably you who wasn't born in the USA.
Are the Republicans having a war on spelling to go along with all of their other idiocy (teabagging) nowadays?

Inky, we've all seen the birth certicate. So where were you born, anyway?

Can't add much more to what Ken said.
