There's a new, negative milestone today with the announcement that the economy lost 663,000 in March; the total job loss since the recessions start 16 months ago has topped five million positions. The new unemployment rate is now 8.5 percent, the highest level since 1983.
An excerpt from the Labor Department's report:
Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline sharply in March (-663,000), and the unemployment rate rose from 8.1 to 8.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Since the recession began in December 2007, 5.1 million jobs have been lost, with almost two-thirds (3.3 million) of the decrease occurring in the last 5 months. In March, job losses were large and widespread across the major industry sectors.

Let us start to rebuild our manufacturing base in America. Return those jobs from the cheap labor markets and rebuild America !! We split the atom, visited the moon, but we can't, or we will not, create jobs for our own citizens !! That is some more capitalist garbage !! What is true patriotism is caring and doing something about your fellow citizens. We are in need of many jobs, so then, help that entrepreneur to start his factory and revitalize our economy !! That is the patriotic thing to do, for that 1%, that owns 75% of America's wealth !! What the heck, all that lucre that the Draft-Dodger boys, Bush-Cheney, gave, in tax cuts, since their administrations began, should allow you to do, just that : Create those jobs, that those tax-cuts were supposed to finance !! Prove that such an idea was not, just more Republican drivel !! I sincerely hope that you can prove that Republican argument right, because it would be good for our nation !!

To your point of the 1% owning 75% ( your numbers)- they do not own "Americas" wealth- they posess their own, personal, wealth...
==
wealth = personal property whose ownership is guaranteed ( and secured) by our US constitution...
==
Please read A Tale of Two Cities and you sound like Madame Defarge with your vindictive share the wealth rhetoric- You really need to find a way to ground yourself in reality... We live in a society that has been built on individualistic, CAPITALIISTIC, values- it is not a crime to be rich. Keep knitting...

heartburn, how dare you NOT want to give away the govt's money.
I'm sorry, I forgot the govt has lots of money.
Damn, there I go again, the mob-govt, has money because it TAKES from people who work for it. Is that called the TAXPAYER?
How dare you even mention Capitalism. Those horrible people who make money. People who take a chance and invest in a business or an idea without Govt' approval. The one that hires other people to make a living, to spend their own money they worked for, while NOT working for the Govt'. How dare you.
I want free education, I want free healthcare, where's my money from the Govt I haven't worked for, I deserve money from those rich people because- well I live here.
Oh there's the mail, It's about time. I was wondering where my welfare check was, because I'm in a hurry to go skiing. How dare you, you capitalist pig rich person who owes me everything I haven't worked for. Damn, my cell phone needs charging.

Once again, your penchant to indicate your gas problem, knows no bounds !! Try some Rolaids, they may help in relieving you of your subjective definitions, of key words, to support your inane argument !! I like what John Maynard Keynes had to say on the subject of capitalism :
"For at least another hundred years we must pretend to ourselves and to every one that fair is foul and foul is fair; for foul is useful and fair is not. Avarice and usury and precaution must be our gods for a little longer still. "
That should keep you in stitches, for second or two !! In the mean time, have you tried Tums, that may solve your problem !! I kind of doubt it though, I think, in your case, your problem may be more serious than that !!

Y'all remember that email I passed along called "Bush Resume" about 7 years ago that listed stats like record deficits, job loss, bankruptcies, etc.
Please ignore.

Don- inane? what are you talking about?
Is wealth owned by individuals or all of us collectively?
This is a relatively simple concept. Your post indicates you believe the latter, which puts you in some pretty dangerous company when you think of some of the collective minded socialist groups that found a way to gain power in the last century in Europe and even here in the US..
Can you try to take a few deep breaths and respond coherently? No body cares about your ultra partisan rants-

FITZ,
.
Why don't you see if George Soros, you know the hedge-fund billionaire, will create any union manufacturing jobs.
.
We can't have those tax cuts on the highest tax brackets now can we. Every time its been tried its led to economic growth. can't have any of that now can we.
.
Now go back to sleep in your city dump truck under the viaduct and dream of your boy Blago sharing a cell with some guy named Brutus.

I wonder what Brothel Barney has to say about this.
Posted by: Terry | April 3, 2009 7:55 PM
I think we can all tell that Terry's homophobia stems from his deeply repressed lust for male Democratic politicians. His interest in their sex lives is really all consuming to him. Someday he'll be honest with himself and come out of the closet.

Observer,
.
If you knew anything about the Brothel Barney story, you would know it has nothing to do with his sexuallity, but with his roommate's, Not unless you have proof that Barney was a patron or employee.

It is idiots like John Fitzgerald in the above comment that keep this country from going in the right direction. You are an idiot!
