Now it's Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's turn.
So many people have had so many things to say about the Republican lately that the Republican was ready to speak for herself last night - addressing an estimated audience of 3,000 abortion-opponents in Evansville, Ind., last night.
She addressed the "right to life,'' a question that she encountered in her fifth pregnancy, with son Trig, born with Down syndrome, as we've gleaned from Kate Snow's account at ABC News: "It was a time when I had to ask myself. was I gonna walk the walk or I was gonna talk the talk?
"There, just for a fleeting moment, I thought, I knew.... Nobody would ever know. I thought, wow, it is easy. It could be easy to think maybe of trying to change the circumstances. No one would know. No one would ever know,'' she said, concluding that: "life is valuable because it is ordained....I had just enough faith to know that trying to change the circumstances wasn't any answer.''
Yet, Palin told the audience at the Vanderburgh County "Freedom for Life'' banquet: "I do understand what these women, what these girls go through in that thought process."
Indiana, that traditionally "red" state, voted for President Barack Obama and running mate Joe Biden over Republicans Sen. John McCain and Palin last fall. Indeed, Vanderburgh County helped hand the state to the Democrat, who won 51 percent of the vote there.

Oh my God! An elected official showing empathy whose name isn't Obama? A nuanced, principled position on a controversial topic that's been elegantly stated? Nah, that can't be Sarah Palin. She's a witch! Burn her! Let the "hope and change" hatefest commence.

Gee Mark!!!...Everyday it's Sarah Palin....My God! Get over it...it's time to move on!!! There must be other Republicans that you can focus your bias reporting on!

Those are likely the most thoughtful statements I've seen attributed to her. She should continue to stick to things she knows about, e.g., raising kids, because she's worthless on public affairs issues.
Why can't we just cut through all the waystations and ger her to her ultimate destination, a daytime talk show -- can we tawk?

The "hatefest"? I guess we just can't take the "lovefest" you have for.....how did you put it? Oh yea....Mary Todd Obama. Congratulations on putting down 2 successful woman in one name. So tell me bemused....as a women...where do you stand on the issue? Careful....your "new" party is listening.

As stated by the most virulent, most consistant and most vulgar hater on this blog. She puts even Johnny D to shame.
Take care of your own problems before you lecture others Bemused.

So, she considered abortion and CHOSE not to do it. That's her right.

I am sure Palin did consider abortion, as she said. That must have been when she boarded a plane about ready to give birth and leaking fluid after being warned not to by doctors.
That was beyond negligent.

People are still drooling all over themselves about this dimwit Palin. She's a tool and has absolutely nothing to offer. Go ahead GOP and put her on the ballot in 2012!!
Posted by: Doug R. | April 17, 2009 1:33 PM
Er, bill r. If Michelle Obama and Mary Todd Lincoln are so great, how is it that comparing them is a put down? I'm just joining your love fest of comparing Barack Obama to Abraham Lincoln. Right? Oh, and by the way, I really have to laugh at how all the Obama thugs call me a "hater." I never trashed public official's families like Obama supporters have throughout his career. But, hey, it's well known how delusional the smug thugs are. Everybody who doesn't love Obama must be destroyed. You people would be pathetic if you weren't so dangerous.
Posted by: Bemused | April 17, 2009 2:00 PM
Hey Doug R...it's not Republicans that keep bringer her up...it's the liberals that control the media!! The liberal media accomplished their mission of destroying this woman...but the nastiness of the liberal media requires them to "kick" a conservative when ever you get the chance. They are unrelenting in their vicious attacks on all conservatives...I'm just sorry that guy's like you have bought into this hatred!
Posted by: Joe | April 17, 2009 2:06 PM
Joe - "nastiness" - you haven't seen the end of it. Their is nothing that the Republicans do better than practice the politics of destruction - Palin will not make it out of the primary alive - Gingrich, Romney, etc,,, will tear her to pieces. You can book it,,,
Posted by: gus | April 17, 2009 2:24 PM
Well Joe, the every day Palin stories are to goad Bemused out of her coven and attack the Swamp and any fair person who happens to like Obama. She has abandoned Hillary and has this love affair with Sarah.

I think you have the words sincere and sarcasm mixed up. That happens though when one turns to the darkside.

It's Friday afternoon and I'm bored, so I'll poke the crazy button for the amusement value:
Oh, please tell us Bemused, in your calm, loving manner, about all the attacks on opponents families by Obama and his supporters throught his career.
Posted by: No hate here, How about you? | April 17, 2009 3:13 PM
I think Mark has a thing for Palin since he sure loves writing about her, I think he's smitten.
Posted by: vla | April 17, 2009 3:25 PM
Tut, tut. Such unkind words from "fair" people. Flo, I don't attack fair people. I really admire Don Fitzgerald. He is civil and seemingly very decent. I respect that he really admires Obama. And I don't have a love affair with any public official - that's just icky. I don't agree with many of Palin's policies, but she has been treated with the utmost cruelty and in many cases the attacks on her policies were just untrue. I defend people who are treated badly - a quality that I as a true Democrat hold dear, but one which the Obama fanatics have shred to pieces. It is the "flo" and "bill r." types who have turned to the darkside. Oh, and flo, what makes you sure I'm a female? Only women can support female elected officials?
Posted by: Bemused | April 17, 2009 3:58 PM
Bemused, if you feel mistreated in the Swamp you might have yourself to blame. You've posted many untrue statements about me. As to thinking you're a female, Bemused, I guess I just got that impression from your posts, that we think you're a PUMA, etc. One can't tell I guess. You once accused me of being a man in drag, so there you go. A man might suggest your irrationality indicates you are female; now that wouldn't be nice, though, would it? I'm not on the darkside, that would be you.

Slag
I wonder why the child’s rights to live were taken away..but that is a digression.
-
You are ignoring her point completely when you exclude her thought process that led to her conclusion to not abort her child in your post.
-
Palin communicated an intelligent "it's not only about me" mature thought process to come to the conclusion that life is valuable for its own sake... even when it presents challenges.
-
She acknowledged that there are always choices between right and wrong and that making the right choice is usually the harder path but still the only real choice you have.
-
Because she struggled with a decision that would clearly be a lifelong struggle in raising a downs syndrome child does not validate a pro choice position- it only proves that Palin is human.
Posted by: heartburn | April 17, 2009 4:31 PM
Flo.....The thing I find so compelling about Bemused is that because you support Obama, that means she automatically assumes that that meant you hated Hillary. Funny thing, I liked Hillary and admire her, but thought that Obama might do more since the right hated Clinton more than anybody....I thought....it turns out they really hate everybody equally. I only pick on her because she simply was able to throw her democratic beliefs away......because Hillary lost. How sad!
Posted by: bill r. | April 17, 2009 6:20 PM
She "CHOSE" to keep the child because she knew an abortion would destroy her political ambitions. And besides, unlike the women when she claimed ""I do understand what these women, what these girls go through in that thought process", she has the power and resources to sluff the child off to nanny's and doctors to care for him. Other women aren't so lucky.

Sure, she can take a "nuanced, principled position" on her own pregnancy; I would hope anyone could; but on US foreign policy, or domestic policy?? not so hot.
Posted by: rupert | April 17, 2009 7:32 PM
There is of course a strategy of pre-emption afoot, with the MSM and online media such as HuffPo all going after Palin in a substained effort, as mysterious "leaks" from nobody/false rumors, persist.
-
If Sarah Palin is so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession?
Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- It's not like it's not obvious-
-
And liberals' double-standard sexism is appalling; she's "dumb" because she's a happy and attractive Christian, who enjoys being a mother? Real feminists need to be angry, wear combat boots, no make-up, short hair, and live alone in a studio apartment in the East Village?
-
She's not the right kind of example because she doesn't support affirmative action... but instead went out there and just kicked butt? Sarah Palin has been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model... this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.
-
Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal... or visa versa. And they have plenty of reason to fear her. Palin is the most popular governor in the country; her 60+% approval rating exceeds that of the MSM-pimped Obama... are all those people up there idiots?
-
Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.
-
Wouldn't it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine? Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko? Racist preachers? Instead of doing business with every last one of them?
-
Go get em, Sarah-

I agree with you bill r.
I like Hillary, but chose not to support her for the nomination; would have supported her had she won the nomination; but because I preferred Obama, I guess I'm a misogynist in Bemused's eyes, or at least guilty of the same 'sins' as a few othes. I never could understand the PUMAs. Oh, but bill, why did you refer to bemused as "she"??
Posted by: Flo | April 17, 2009 10:17 PM
As someone who has received a constant barrage of personal insults because I will not worship Barack Obama, I find the continued protests here to be more dishonesty from Team Obama.
When I would defend Hillary, I was attacked. When I defended Bill, I was attacked. When I defended Palin, I was attacked. When I shot back because of the constant personal attacks against me, I was attacked.
Now suddenly Obama people want to pretend that they're the victims (typical). They pretend that the most hideous hate campaign in U.S. history - that of Barack Obama and his media allies - is now some paragon of virtue. History will prove me correct, folks, you will see.
They now are so delusional that they now actually claim to always been fair, and always admired Hillary. Just save that garbage, bill r. I actually do fear Obama supporters because they do not operate in any semblance of reality. They seek out only ideas that reinforce their own. They become violent when any aspect of Obama is criticized. They would rather destroy dissent than welcome debate.
The whole lot of yo,u from Mark Silva and Keith Olberman down to bill r. and flo owe us all a huge apology for the incredibly reprehensible treatment they have inflicted and continue to inflict upon those who do not share their world view. I won't be holding my breath for that apology. I'm used to Republicans advancing their agenda without a moral compass and with no human compassion. Now that Obama Democrats have followed suit, I will continue to call it out. Keep calling me names, folks - it only reinforces what many already know about the new hypocrites.
Posted by: Bemused | April 18, 2009 1:13 AM
Bemused.....My offer remains as it had before......find just 1 post of me attacking Hillary and I will apologize every day to you. Matter of fact....go to the thread about Chelsea and you will see me defending them. Have I picked on you since the election? .....absolutely....I find dealing with childish behavior a challenge. I like pie, coffee, but I love martinis therfore I must hate pie and coffee....brilliant!
ps...just 1 Bemused!
Posted by: bill r. | April 18, 2009 9:26 AM
I believe, Bemused, that you would be the one owing me an apology. You're really much too gullible; and inaccurate.
Posted by: Flo | April 18, 2009 10:12 AM
Bemused, I don't think "Team Obama" spends a lot of time here, or any time worrying about what you say. If you want to debate issues, please do so. But you never come in unless it's a Sarah story, and you always start throwing the insults yourself. So look in the mirror.
Posted by: rupert | April 18, 2009 11:18 AM
Stewies Stuffed Animal,
Of course Team Obama doesn't spend a lot of time in here; they have Silva doing all the heavy lifting.
Have you wondered how Mark can write 6-8 articles a day for this blog? He just repeats talking points coming from the morning Steff-Carville-Bengala-Deadfish Rahmbo call

Palin has a life. She was elected up in Alaska, great. This is far from the White House. She played the lap dog a little better after she was put in a room and crammed with some of the best for a few days, but my my my..........those 1st few trips out without the leash were pretty rough on her. My point is, if her "position" in Alaska has privided her the time to take care of obviously problematic home life, that's all good. If she needs to be a mother to special needs kids at home, I don't believe that she needs to TRY to fill the shoes that she is shopping for in '12. I understand that the limelight in which she tanned in up until her and McCains demise probably felt nice, but stay up there and be lucky you have what you have Palin. You're a Gov. of a big state........and a few people also, don't let the fact that you were voted in by a bunch of guys who like to hunt and shoot (as i also love my guns) bears by running on exactly what they wanted to here, let you be fooled into thinking that you are a political mind for any thing close to the President of the U.S.A ..please.
