In this season of controversial honorary college degrees, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton collected one today that few could dispute:
From Yale University, which conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on the woman who graduated from Yale's Law School 36 years ago.
She met her husband, former President Bill Clinton, there in 1970.
Unlike President Barack Obama, who was denied an honorary degree at Arizona State University this year because the commencement speaker's "body of work'' had not been fulfilled, and whose honorary degree at Notre Dame was disputed because he advocates abortion rights, Clinton's degree -- which came as a surprise to the public at a school that saves its honorary degrees for last-minute notice, and which also honored the writer, John McPhee, today -- was Yale squared, Yale honoring Yale's own.
