If Dick Cheney had "his druthers,'' he'd be fishing in Wyoming.

So says daughter Liz Cheney, who spoke out this morning about all the speaking out that her dad, the former vice president, has been doing lately about the "enhanced'' terrorist-interrogations of the Bush administration. She makes the same case that the former vice president makes: Invaluable information was acquired in the conduct of CIA interrogators, working with the legal authorization of the Bush Justice Department, the nation is safer for it and the Obama administration's reluctance about those tactics is raising new security risks for the United States.

She also told some personal tales on dad -- who displayed a lot of patience when she crashed the car as a teenager -- in her cool-headed debate today with a columnist, the equally genial Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, who has another word for those enhanced tactics ("torture") and questions whether information obtained from interrogations couldn't have been gleaned "legally,'' the way the Obama team has ordered the CIA to conduct its business.

It's refreshing to see an important debate conducted with a certain civility. They met on Morning Joe, the MSNBC news talk show. See it above.

Why is Cheney "obligated" to speak out? The right trashed Al Gore (and continues to do) for his criticism of the Bush regime. Cheney has no right to say a word.

Since he is doing so, he is now the leader of the GOP. Americans need to know that.

The reality is that Cheney promotes a climate of fear - and fear matters. There are emotionally disturbed people - and people afraid of their future - who buy all of Cheney's lines. Fear does matter. ......

It's too bad he wasn't obliged to answer the call to arms, during the Vietnam war, when it really counted !! The only reason he may be obliged to speak out, now, is because he doesn't want to be painted with the same brush, that ex-President Bush will be painted. That brush will be of the incompetent and misleading hues, with a dab of stupidity and dishonesty !! That is the only reason he is appearing now, like his mentor, Nixon, he wants to revise history !! Nix, on that nonsense !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Wonder if they'll tell her to shut up like they did Megan McCain?

Dick Cheney seems to be speaking out for his own legacy as the Bush puppet master.

Interesting to note that once again, the GOP has no agenda for the working or middle class. Instead, its irrelevant has-beens fall back on the only thing they sell best: fear.

If Americans are smart--and a great majority of them are--they'll ignore this draft-dodging idiot who appears so desperate to regain power that he'll resort to the most transparent of measures.

Hey, if "Dad" wants to speak out, let "Dad" go ahead and speak out! And if we want to speak out and tell "Dad" he can go do certain stuff (there are many, many options, but you know what I'm talking about), we also have that right. It's great to live in a free country.
.
And, despite what Righties are saying, WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHERE WE'RE ALLOWED TO SAY PRETTY MUCH WHAT WE WANT.

An incredibly unbelievable video from MSNBC. They treated Liz Cheney with dignity and respect, and allowed her the space to present the argument. Someone at MSNBC did not get the memo.

For those that won’t bother with the video, Liz Cheney’s position is that:

- the interrogation methods that were used were not inappropriate

- useful information was obtained

- the selective Obama transparency thing directed at Bush and Cheney will also compromise the safety of America

Politics first, of course, always, but Liz Cheney makes a very compelling argument. Blissful ignorance, democrats, is always on your side, but u may still need to consider redirecting some of your Rush-Palin-D.Cheney-Teabag fire onto L. Cheney. She’s has an incredible temperament and is a most worthy adversary, if she chooses to continue to press this little flare-up. Here's "hoping" that she does.

How did Cheney find out about the Liz's car accident? Water boarding? Hmm............tough love or torture? She probably would not have told him with out the water boarding, so I guess torture is okay if it gets the information. Cheney needed to know who wrecked his car and by God, he got the information and our Nation was safer as Liz was off the road. Thank you Dick!

I wonder if Liz knows about her dad's 5 deferrments to avoid combat in VietNam, his 2 drunk driving convictions, and his multiple heart attacks?? Chickenhawk Cheney has not sacrificed a single thing for the United States. He is an unpatriotic coward.

Just throwing anything at him now, huh?

I think she and Joe make some very good points concerning the fact that the Obama administration has been vocal against the Bush administration and yet keeps these documents that prove torture worked classified and the crucify Cheney for coming out and saying that it did work. I enjoyed this coverage: http://www.newsy.com/videos/questioning_dick_cheney/ of the interview and I also enjoyed an article from real clear politics that talks about personally thinking everything that Cheney is saying is a law, but what if it's true?

Problem is, Django, what she calls inappropriate is a violation of 2 treaties and law.

Hola Flo,

Que' hace. I bring you greetings, from Plato:

"Laws are partly formed for the sake of good men, in order to instruct them how they may live on friendly terms with one another, and partly for the sake of those who refuse to be instructed, whose spirit cannot be subdued, or softened, or hindered from plunging into evil." ~ Plato, a Greek guy

I just think that we are dealing with scofflaws that have a spirit that cannot be subdued, softened, or hindered, and that requires us to having to counter their evil intent through specially prescribed techniques.

Treaties? Al Queda would not seem to be the type of organization that signs treaties. Who are these treaties with?

I have not seen my pseudo- Debra Rodgers pL amiga in a while. I am "Torture" deficient. I learned "Las Mananitas" for that pL. The absence of "Torture" is Torture. The fickle Gods of fate are now "torturing" me. That's what we should be all knotted-up over.

Que Tal, Flo. I'm trying to learn a Bob Dylan song at this peculiar hour ~ "Tight Connection To My Heart".

That Dylan, he has it set in the key of "B". Maybe I will modulate it up 1/2 step to the key of "C". U would have to be strange to want to play it in "B", but I can if I just have to. "Tight Connection To My Heart" covers TWO Latinas, ~ pseudo pL Debera Rodgers and pseudo pL Jessica Biel. I tell you it's a dawg's life, but somebody's gotta live it. Regards, and I need "Torture".
