House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today accused the CIA of lying to her when it first briefed her about "enhanced'' interrogation techniques that were being deployed against detainees - "We were told explicitly that waterboarding was not being used,'' Pelosi told reporters today, as she recounted what she was told in a CIA briefing in the fall of 2002.
She maintained that she and other congressional leaders were told several months later about waterboarding that already was being used when she first was briefed, as recently released Bush Justice Department memoranda have described.
"They mislead us all the time,'' Pelosi said at a news conference today.
The CIA maintains that its notes show that Pelosi was indeed briefed abut the waterboarding that had been approved in that Sept. 4, 2002, briefing.
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) held his own news conference afterward, and asserted that he strongly doubts that the CIA lied to anyone in Congress about interrogation tactics on which congressional leaders were fully briefed.
"I think the problem is that the speaker has had way too many stories on this issue,'' Boehner said today. "She's posed more questions than she has provided answers...
"When you look at the number of briefings that the speaker was in, and other Democrat members of the House and Senate, it's.. pretty clear that they were well aware of what these enhanced interrogation techniques were,'' Boehner said. "They were well aware that they had been used. And it seems to me that they want to have it both ways. You can't have it both ways.''
Pelosi, for her part, renewed her call for a "truth commission'' to investigate the Bush administration's use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques and the legal arguments devised to support it. While President Barack Obama has banned waterboarding, his administration calling it "torture,'' he has been hesitant about any inquiry that might only become a partisan brawl and distract attention from his own agenda.
Boehner says that if they want to get to the bottom of this, then fine, put everything on the table.
"It's hard for me to imagine,'' Boehner said, ''that anyone in the intelligence areas would mislead us... I don't feel.. that I have been misled.''
The speaker maintains that Republican criticism of her over what she knew when about the interrogations are a "diversionary'' tactic.
"They misrepresented every step of the way,'' she said, "and they don't want that focus on them, so they try to turn the focus on us.''

Well this is a fine kettle of fish. I think at this time we definately need to get to the bottom of this. If indeed Pelosi is the one misleading us, let the chips fall where they may. If it be the other way around, let the CIA answer for it. This is getting to be just plain garbage. Quite frankly, Bonner needs to stay out of it and let the non-partisan truth come out.

Nancy Pelooni is typical left wing Democratic scum. Blame the CIA or the military. She is an embarrassment to this country and she abuses those who protect us on a daily basis. We know the truth, it is Pelooni who is lying, but I know a great way we can get her rto speak thetruth. It includes water.

Even Jon Stewart, loyal Liberal that he is, mocks Pelosi's ever changing stories on what she knew and when she knew it. See http://cayankee.blogs.com/cayankee/2009/05/jon-stewart-on-nancy-pelosis-waterboarding-denials.html for the comedy central video that the usually Daily Show-happy Swamp doesn't run.

Go for it Republicans!
Let's have a full on torture/war crimes investigation...
First of all, you don't have anything on Pelosi and second, if you did find something, who the frack cares. As much as you hate it, this is not a partisan issue (like the Bill Clinton/Monica saga was).
This is another case of the Republicans hitting themselves on the head with their own stick.
I can only imagine how many Republicans would get caught up in an all out torture investigation. Don't forget, after 2000 and 2004, these Republicans are the "elections have consequences" guys that we're talking about here.
Posted by: Hulk SMASH! | May 14, 2009 2:46 PM
Don't let that Boehner fool you. He is a "get the GOP at all costs" guy, and he will either lie or believe a lie if it helps him or the GOP. Surely the many biased statements he and John Cornyn have made in favor of even a lie if it benefits the GOP is proof of that.

Poor lead, poor communication skills.

Apparently Pelosi and Obama forgot something: the CIA KILLS people... it's in their job description.
Did those two really think that these killers were going to take-one-for-the-team... when the team captain is a lying, incompetent, arrogant nebbish who has basically told them they need to kiss his ring? -please
Obama really kicked an ant hill with his ill-advised and politically motivated release of Bush Administration memos regarding EITs- I'm sure he already regrets it.
Let's have a hearing and get it all out there, shall we? Then watch the rats scatter who attacked Bush for protecting the country from terrorist attack... but who clearly knew what was going on five years before we heard a peep out of them.

The reason Boehnor is involved is because Premier Pelosi is trying to wiggle out it. It is so funny watching her calling everyone else a liar when it seems obvious that the one lying here is Premier Pelosi. She can barely open her botox filled pie hole without lying.

Hey Kids, do you want to grow up to be a fear-mongering knuckle-dragging Republican like John Boehner?
Here's how you do it---the GOP knows how to scream "Danger!!!" better than anyone. But how do they do it so effectively? It's simple, really, and you, too, can convince people they should be scared of their own shadow. Just pick a phrase from List A, another from List B, and one from List C. Here...try it:
List A
----------
A public option in health care reform
Curbing CO2 emissions
Gay marriage
Public funding of stem cell research
Immigration reform that doesn’t include mass deportations
Talking with our adversaries
Releasing the report/study/memo/photos
Restoring Clinton-era tax rates on multi-millionaires
Enacting tighter regulations in the financial sector
Investigating "enhanced interrogation techniques"
Closing down offshore tax loopholes
Actually listening to ordinary Americans
Anything President Obama does
Will...
List B
----------
Tear at the fabric of
Have a chilling effect on
Ignite a firestorm of woe upon
Erode the foundation of
Wreak incalculable havoc on
Lead us down a dark and dangerous path toward destroying
Lead us down a slippery slope on the way to bankrupting
Plunge a dagger into the very heart of
Unleash destruction on
Tear a giant hole in
Break the back of
Have devastating consequences on
Forever doom
List C
---------
Our society
This great nation
Our national security
The family structure
Small businesses
Democracy as we know it
Our children!
Our children's children!
Our children's children's children! (etc.)
The Judeo Christian values on which this country was founded
The Homeland/Fatherland/Motherland
Everything we hold sacred
Our ability to prevent the socialists from taking over
Our vital institutions
My chances of getting re-elected
And, if you're feeling frisky, you can add a scary rhetorical flourish from list D.
List D
--------
Just wait---you'll see! And then you'll come crawling back to me!
I weep for my country!
My people don't want to secede from the U.S., but...we may have no choice.
This is the worst thing that's happened in the history of the world!
It's time to start stocking up on food and water. And gunnnnns.
Gosh darn it!
Also!!!
See? It's easy! And with a little practice you, too, can put yourself on a dark and dangerous slippery slope of woe as a Republican doomsayer. Not sure why you'd want to, but it's always nice to have options in this uncertain economy.

You do realize there is an "opposition" Party, right?
There the ones who bring up what the other side is doing, Democrat or Republican.
It's amusing, that since the "Top Secret" files (half of the files) were released by the Democrat Admin', and photos were going to be released, by the Democrat Admin', and how the Democrat Admin' won't release the other side of the Top Secret" files, that there are so many activists trying to turn this is into, "well it's those mean Republicans fault".
Remember this woman is third in line to the Presidency. Now, thats scary.
You can try as much as you want to blame the Republicans but it's N. Pelosi, that keeps changing her "stories", while other agree she isn't telling the truth. Republican's made her say it. If it wasn't so important it would be funny.

Now the GOP (Boehner) is trying to redeem these guys. How did Goss avoid prison? Plea bargain? And now he is shocked that anyone would imply they were deceitful?
Cheney is going down!
Its starting to happen. After all of those war protest marches, it's starting to happen. We all knew these guys were comitting war crimes. Cheney can go on all the tee vee shows he wants to claim he saved the country from another attack, but it won't matter. Cheney is going down!

They forgot about that and went after Rather like he had ducked his military obligation. The MSM is really so gullible. Now they want us to focus on someone who was not involved in the decision to torture instead of on the real perps. Karl, Karl, please leave us alone.

There are 545 people who are responsible for all our nation's problems:
1 president
9 Supreme Court Justices
100 U.S. Senators
435 U.S. Representatives
Total: 545
You cannot blame the bureaucrats since they are part of the executive branch;
you cannot blame the lobbyists who CAN be rresisted by our Members of Congress;
you can blame the House of Representatives since only it can present a budget to be signed by the president;
you can blame the president for signing an ill-conceived piece of legislation;
you can blame the justices for judicial activism which effectively removes the checks and balances in the U.S. Constitution.
Our elected officials are sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution. Speaker Pelosi is sadly deficient in ability when she offers weak leadership and weaker responsibility.
Every time one of our elected federal representatives says, "I am not responsible," we need to remember the "545". All are to blame.

So her attempt at deflecting this to the Bush admin- which is clearly meant to give her and the DEMS advantage ( or avoid a disadvantage) should not be responded to by the leader of the minority party - and can be reduced to solely Pelosi's problem?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today accused the CIA of lying to her when it first briefed her about "enhanced'' interrogation techniques that were being deployed against detainees... ~ M.S.
----------------------------------------
The CIA is one of those organizations that does not do democrat-Republican in that they are more likely to defend their own terra firma. Reaganite Republican @ 3:17 p.m. has squared it up very nicely. Ms. Pelosi may want to crawfish on that "truth commission" idea.
Johnny Knoxville, I like your list. Not very democrat-like, lite on the name-callin’, but a good piece of work. If they were all within the SAME list, we could play “Permutations and Combinations”, a most exciting game.
Hell, let's play anyway. There would actually be 4,669,920 Permutations. Order matters in Permutations, as I’m sure we already know, but has to be accounted for, discounted if you will, for Combinations. There would be 194,580 Combinations. But alas, we have to stick with a one to one to one to one arrangement from among 4 groups. There are a mere 17,745 possible arrangements, not counting my own (see below).
And here’s the first arrangement: Curbing CO2 emissions (from List A) will wreak incalculable havoc (from List B) on this great nation (List C), just wait, you'll see, and then you'll come crawling back to me! (List D) But by then it will be too late and we can only say that damn Django, that frickin' Django, was right (from Django’s List). That was fun. I like that. Gotta keep those math skills razor sharp. I weep for this country, but man, What a country.

Keep talking torture, Republicans.....
As a member of the Democratic MAJORITY party, nothing would make me happier than having a full on torture/war crimes investigation, under oath, with a penalty of prison time if convicted.
I'm willing to take my chances because I know how top/down, lockstep the Repuglican party is. The Feds would have to build a whole new prison in DC just to hold all of the newly convicted Republican torture enablers and liars.

The Washington Times gives you the story on the Pelosi press conference. After reading this, you can see why Democrats in the media didn't report all she said:
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, her eyes wide, her hands gesticulating wildly, on Thursday laid out a third version of what she knew and when she knew it on the Bush administration's interrogation policies, edging ever closer to debating what the meaning of the word "is" is.
With her own second-in-command now demanding more answers, the California Democrat, her voice barely audible at times, read a rambling statement at her weekly press briefing about her prior knowledge of the "enhanced interrogation techniques" (EITs) employed by under President Bush, asserting that she was not told in a September 2002 briefing that the U.S. government used waterboarding.
Minutes later, though, she acknowledged for the first time that her top security adviser was part of a February 2003 briefing in which he learned that American interrogators were in fact waterboarding suspected terrorists.
"My statement is clear, and let me read it again. Let me read it again. I'm sorry. I have to find the page," said a flustered Mrs. Pelosi, shuffling through papers, her hands quivering a bit, as she sought to stick to her prepared text.
"When — when — when my staff person — I'm sorry, the page is out of order — five months later, my staff person told me that there had been a briefing — informing that there had been a briefing and that a letter had been sent. I was not briefed on what was in that briefing; I was just informed that the briefing had taken place," she said."

School yard bullies graduate into the big time when they gain a position of power in the workplace. A sadistic boss can make the lives of his employees miserable by constantly threatening to fire them. But unfortunately some bullies get absolute power when given the job of torturing prisoners of war. Their first job is to make sure their victims are well fed and kept healthy. This gives them the opportunity to interrogate them endlessly. Confessions of guilt do not end the torture. The sadist stays with his victim until there is no resistance. A broken prisoner is of no use to the grown up school yard bully

"Yes, Republicans have tried to distance themselves from President Bush's fiscal profligacy. But on the core value issues of militarism and human rights violations and keeping faith with the war criminals of the previous regime they really couldn't be more unified or on message. If you were plopped down on earth today in front of a TV set in the United States, on the testimony of the party members themselves, you might easily get the idea that state-sanctioned torture was the main policy legacy of the outgoing administration." Josh Marshall, Talking Points Memo (see link in the post above)
Could not have said it better myself. I am not a politico and I do not watch TV. But I have watched, and I know what liars look and act like. This woman is very clear. Stuttering? Blinking? I do not see it - maybe we are watching different video clips? In this press conference she is stating very clearly what happened, what the chronology was... and the reporters are trying to change her words into an entirely different story. Very interesting, I must say!
Obama has declined going after Cheney and the rest of the war criminals (who EVER they are...) in an effort to move ahead in a positive way. The facts remain, and it is becoming very clear that criminal actions took place, and at a very high level. And if this nonsense continues, essentially trying to defend or smokescreen them, then, guess what? They will have to be prosecuted and held accountable for illegal, unscrupulous, inhuman, criminal behavior. So you decide - do you want your pretty boys of the previous administration exposed and raked over the coals? Then keep up the the frenzy! Some how all these posts attacking Pelosi take "She must have been told." and change it to "She was told." Ah the beauty of logic! It is also definitely very interesting here that the Boehner clip stalls, just before he gets to the point of his opinion why the illegality of torture is not the primary issue.
Some folks seem to think that as you go up the power ladder there is more leeway - more justification for illegal behavior and wrong-doing. This country, along with all of our judeo-christian heritage, has a government founded on the stated principle that those who are high up have a moral obligation to set an example, a tone, for the rest of us to emulate. That means our leaders must be held to an even higher standard than the rest of us are bound, by law, to maintain. Nancy Pelosi appears to be of that school of thought, and says repeatedly that she welcomes fact finding. "Get the transcript of the briefing." she said. What could be more transparent than that? That does NOT mean that we need a higher degree of administrative (or legislative, for that matter) secrecy dedicated to make the officials appear to be scrupulous and upright. It does not mean we need more high-powered double-talk, explaining why it is somehow paramount that Nancy Pelosi did not single-handedly stop torture, as opposed to the the simple honest and compelling questions about what in blue blazes our officials thought they was doing, torturing people within an inch of their lives in order to get bogus information. In the long run, we will have the truth. Anyone who thinks they can pull the wool or make the facts go away will eventually be disappointed. I admit... sometimes eventually sure seems to be taking the long way around!
And it is true that even when the truth comes out those in control often keep it from being widespread. Eventually... we will all become aware that the "two party" system is all celebrating at the same party. But that will only become known as more and more people wake up to the fact that they were not invited to the party. At that point the facts become a moot issue and survival is key. We have a long way to go - Dont hold your breath! Burma has been under military rule for close to 40 years, with no end in sight.

I really wish that prominent Republicans would finally grow a set and call out the Democrats in language that they and the public understand, by saying explicitly that Nancy Pelosi is a LIAR!!.
She and the rest of the Dems have tossed that term out lightly to describe everything they've ever disagreed with Reps about, yet for some reason the prominent R's can never bring themselves to say the word "Liar" when describing their opponents who unquestionably are not telling the truth.
Instead, they choose words like "misleading" or "disingenuous". Sorry, but in this day and age 70% of the public don't even know those words mean "lying", so they don't even hear it.
C'mon you limp-wristed so called Republican leaders, will you ever do anything with the pair the good Lord blessed you with, or will you forever enjoy wearing the panties you parade around the House in?

For those who doubt the likelihood that the CIA was deceptive in its interactions with Congressional leaders, read: "LEGACY OF ASHES: The History of the CIA" by Tim Weiner. The book is an extremely well chronicled account of the CIA, from its inception post WW II. Misleading elected officials (who have oversight and ultimate control of finances) has been part of the historical culture at the CIA.

Oh, and go away and obsess about someone else, Flo (or is it Liz?).
Posted by: Bemused | May 15, 2009 7:55 AM
Well this is a fine kettle of fish. I think at this time we definately need to get to the bottom of this. If indeed Pelosi is the one misleading us, let the chips fall where they may. If it be the other way around, let the CIA answer for it. This is getting to be just plain garbage. Quite frankly, Bonner needs to stay out of it and let the non-partisan truth come out.

This the last time Im wasting type on you.

I see Bemused is still bitter and still seeing gender slurs that aren't there. Nancy will survive if she shuts up, but the news conference was foolish. Sorry bemused, I don't know who Liz is.

The Sadist is feared most by prisoners because he wants more than information or a confession. He wants to torture his victims until there is no resistance or cries of pain. This might take many months. But once his victims becomes silent and do not scream in agony the Sadist loses interest. The prisoners becomes useless and the monster looks for healthy replacements. Those that were water boarded over one hundred times until silenced were the healthiest of the victims. It took many months to obtain their silence. They were broken, rehabilitated, and could go free.

I must be the only one here who actually watched that press conference yesterday in its entirety.
She did OK.
The problem the participants have is: The CIA is in the business of deception, isn't it?
It "deceived" a sophisticated consumer of intelligence like Colin Powell to the extent he was willing to give that speech before the UN which later made him look like a fool or worse.
So I can readily believe whatever was in its briefings to members of Congress was deceptive and Bush-serving.
Deception and double-dealing are the stock-in-trade at CIA, right?
On the other hand, assuming CIA was candid about its "techniques", ethical members of Congress who disagreed needed to send that classified letter of protest, didn't they?
And Nancy did not do that. Instead, according to her statement yesterday, she left that to someone lower in the Caucus.
That's her story and she's stickin' to it.

Bitter, no. Realist with a long memory, absolutely. You can pretend, flo, all you want that there was never any sexism in the recent campaign and the ongoing smears against Gov. Palin. Tell you what, I'll pretend it never happened if you and Silva and the rest of you trolls pretend slavery and Jim Crow never happened. Obama wants Latin America to forget about America's transgressions from the past. Let's all just drink the Kool Aid and forget the past completely. Wipe the slate clean. Pelosi, you're forgiven because even though you gave your tacit approval to torture, we just can't live in the past. To do otherwise would be "bitter." Let's never, ever discuss how Obama's trolls and his MSM allies personalize political disagreements and engage in more heinous attacks than Karl Rove on his worst day. Nope, no sexism or misogyny ever happened - cuz flo says so.

I'm not a fan of Nancy Pelosi, but let's call this what it is; a smokescreen from the right distracting us from the reality that the past administration used torture, not to protect our country, but to get false confessions from prisoners to link Saddam Hussien to Al Qaeda to justify the war with Iraq.

Who on the right- caused Pelosi to lie about her knowledge of the EITs...?
Posted by: heartburn | May 15, 2009 2:59 PM
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
If Obama is a misogynist , then Hillary is clearly a racist. I bet you can't find any direct quote from Obama that is as sexist as the racist quote from Hillary above, with he4r equating hard woking with being white, unlike us shiftless lazy blacks.

Nancy Bologna is obviously suffering permanent psychological distress, evident in her defensiveness, contradictory responses, evasiveness, and general confusion. It's simple, isn't it? Nancy herself has been tortured by the CIA. She has repressed these memories, but there is enough evidence to blame Bush/Cheney/Rove. Snap out of it Nancy! We need to focus on Bailout II - The Sequel! Only big bankrupt government can save us now.

Ha, Hard Working Black American - go ahead and hit the default "you're a racist" button. Yep, Hillary and Bill Clinton are racists. Hell, every white person is a racist, right? No matter how a white person acts - that race doesn't matter, that it's the only thing that matters - white people will never be able to overcome the sin of slavery. White folks better walk on egg shells - if we decide you're not useful we'll just say you broke the rules that are made up on the fly. African Americans are the worlds greatest victims and no one had ever better even try to take that trophy away. You see, Mr. Hardworking, women know I'm right. They know the sexism is there. It doesn't have to be stated. But so-called progressive men have a visceral hatred for Hillary, and then for Palin. No one wants to come out and say it or they'll be called a wackadoo feminist. It's still acceptable to be a victimized African American. But through the campaign, it was quite evident that the hatred for Hillary made many women conflicted. They may have liked Obama just fine, and even ended up voting for him. But his positions were similar to Ms. Clintons. The fact is that sexism trumped racism. So, Mr. Hardworking, you're not the greatest victim. Women and the media are just uncomfortable saying where the real bias is.
Posted by: Bemused | May 15, 2009 10:23 PM
You notice, "Hard Working," that Bemused never provided the quote. Just the retreaded delusional canned rant accusing you of things you didn't say. "Ha."

The wicked witch of the west needs to resign or be removed from office. She has changed her "story" no less than six times. The further she tries to "clarify" her comments, the deeper she digs her grave.
Sure let's have a truth commission. Pelosi can be the first one called to testify under oath and perjure herself. Then criminal charges can be brought against her.
What is wrong with the lunatics controlling the Democratic party? Putting the outgoing administration on trial makes the USA look like some third world dictatorship. Are the Democrats too stupid to realize that if they put the Bush Administration on trial that they will set a precedent. Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the lunatics will find themselves on trial in four or eight years (let's hope it's four) when a new Republican administration takes over? What a bunch of dimwits.
These lunatics are pure evil.

Who cares. . .this is a non issue. Fixing the economy is more important. Worrying about what he said or she said. . .is useless. Doesn't put food on the table!
As you can see, Congress is too busy bickering to worry about our daily life problems. . .
So, don't pay attention to this and start demanding more real progress on the economic front.
Posted by: HmongRodneyKing | May 16, 2009 1:42 AM
Rather than speak out and publicly challenge any problem in whatever capacity she can, whenever she can, Pelosi decided her best course of action from here out is to first take control of the world.

Wow. Great stuff, Mark Silva.
We had Denial and Subterfuge~ Nancy Pelosi. We had Deceit ~ The CIA. We had the Match Game ~ J.K., that only one Swampdog wanted to play ~ Django. We had a short discourse on Permutations and Combinations, of no interest to No One, nothing really surprising about that. We had Alleged Racism and Misogynism. We had some directed, calling-u-out attacks. Add some Pretty Latinas for the awesome esthetic value and shazam! This would be some movie. "I weep for this country", but What A Country.
Posted by: Django - N Exile In/Around the 30th Parallel | May 16, 2009 12:30 PM
I think some of the posts are funny. N. Pelosi will hurt the Democrat Party with her continued changing of stories. Heck, the Republicans can shut up and just let her and the CIA go at each other.
And who in their right mind would insult bodies of intelligence, CIA, FBI. She might think she has a lot of power, but man insulting these people, and then trying to deflect her own words away from her own words is priceless.
Remember Robert Ludlum (deceased) he was asked many times where he got his information from, because his books were to close to the truth. The CIA if they want could tell Pelosi, her family and friends,..... when they went to the bathroom for the last month if they wanted to, and she insults them, not smart, and I bet Obama would love to see Hoyer as Speaker.

"The CIA if they want could tell Pelosi, her family and friends,..... when they went to the bathroom for the last month if they wanted to, and she insults them, not smart, and I bet Obama would love to see Hoyer as Speaker. "
So you are saying that the CIA unlawfully spies on private American citizens? Furthermore, you are sayin that the elected representatives of the people of the United States should bow to the CIA as a result? This doesn't bother you at all?
Posted by: Mel | May 17, 2009 6:23 PM
Bemused, I have as much reason to believe that Hillary Clinton is a racist as you do that Obama is a sexist. You scream the "Misogynist card" loud and long. You find that fair and just. I found Hillary's statement to be vile. Is it any less right for me to complain about that? This isn't a default claim, it is a claim about her specific, reprehensible statement, that was clearly appealing to a long time, and disgusting stereotype. Clearly your response shows that you yourself are deeply steeped in those stereotypes, and agree with them. "African Americans are the worlds greatest victims" What nonsense. What arrogant racist, ignorant nonsense. You are who Hillary was appealing to with that statement, and clearly it worked. You, Bemused are both sexist AND racist, and I more than willing to point that fact out. You are the one with a "victim mentality", enraged that anyone would claim to be a victim, when you are the one true victim.
Posted by: Hard Woprking Black American | May 17, 2009 6:48 PM
You have to be kidding. Do you read what people write?
What do you want, me to write a 30 page post. I said "if they wanted to". I'm not saying they "unlawfully" spy. They might, might not. I don't know, but I guess you do.
So using your logic, we should allow the person who is 2nd inline (after the President) to the Presidency to lie and malign an intelligence agency, and let them/her say anything they want about the people who are keeping us safe.
Do you think it alright to lie by the people who you voted into office?
So please read the posts very carefully.
Posted by: PG | May 17, 2009 9:38 PM
No PG, I'm not defending NOR condoning Pelosi's actions at this point. I don't know if she lied or if the CIA did. I think it should be fully investigated.
However, I still do not understand your nonsensical post. What if the CIA could illegally spy on her family if it wanted to, what difference does that make in your opinion? Does it men that Pelosi must be lying? Does it mean the CIA must be telling the truth?
And yes I fully believe that an elected representative of the people should be able to say whatever they want on any topic, don't you? The Congress has the right to oversea the actions of our government agencies. No agency, no matter how large their claim to "keep us safe" should be above criticism, least of all criticism by those elected to represent the people. I don't want the CIA, or any other agency of the government, to be above the law, above investigation of allegfations of wrong doing.
Posted by: Mel | May 18, 2009 9:02 AM
You know this is where your not understanding my post. I gave the "bathroom" thing as an example, because that's what they do. They are in the field of intelligence and she attacked them. I wouldn't.
With me saying that you jumped to "unlawful", it's an example. Another, would be if you picked a fight with Mike Tyson? No I wouldn't, same deal. If the discussion was physical.
I'm pleased that YOU think an elected member of Congress can say anything they want. I guess that means even if they're lying to YOU.
If you respond, please mention ALL the other members and people who know who have refuted her many claims of this is what happened, oh no this is what happened , oh no this is what happened.
Posted by: PG | May 18, 2009 1:09 PM
I'll clarify: I never used "illegal", you did. So you jumped to a conclusion of illegality. And repeated it when I never used it. So that paragraph is mute.
You seem to leave out the "Lying" part when talking about the freedoms of a member of Congress. So yes, I believe a member should be able to address the public. But I also believe "if they continue to lie to the people, then they should be taken to the wood shed". Thats another example. She, is the one saying lies (her words, not mine), no-one else is.
Yes, Congress has the right to oversea Gov't Agencies, Congress the Executive Branch, plus whomever I left out. AND they should. If it helps the Country.
It's not going to matter what I say anyway. You've added words to my post, and have concluded the CIA is at fault or any other Agency. You never mention Pelosi, or Congress or the Executive Branch might be wrong and is lying to you.
Posted by: PG | May 18, 2009 1:55 PM
PG, it is illegal for the CIA to spy within the United Sates, so your example is by definition illegal. Apparently you think our politicians should be motivated by fear of the CIA. Maybe the Republicans are, I don't know, but I sure don't want fear of what the CIA might do to affect thae actions or statements of any member of Congress, of either party. Perhaps you are defending the CIA right now out of fear that they are watching you in your bathroom? Is that the case PG?
I never said the CIA was at fault, I made it clear that I am not prepared to say either side is at fault until we have more facts. You have tried and convicted Pelosi, and are now sentencing her.
Posted by: Mel | May 18, 2009 2:32 PM
Again, the example of an example, calling the example illegal is stupid. It's an example. Doesn't anyone else know that. So please stop turning my post into something I didn't say and you are.
As for your "i never said", your trying to have it both ways.
1. Did I call the CIA liars? 2. Did Pelosi call the CIA liars?
3. Has Pelosi had changing stories?
4. Have others opposed her stories?
5. Did I mention illegal or you?
I could add more but......
Politicians: No, they should not fear any intelligence agency, or any ..... you know what, it's not going to make any difference what I say, because you continually try to
mis-represent what I posted. Here's a hint, read the article again. Then go online and search for, here I'll make it easy.. http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Pelosi+cia+liars&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Posted by: PG | May 18, 2009 4:45 PM
1. Did I call the CIA liars? No, you insist that they are telling the truth.
2. Did Pelosi call the CIA liars?
Yes.
3. Has Pelosi had changing stories?
That depends on whether or not you believe that the CIA lied to her.
4. Have others opposed her stories?
Yes.
5. Did I mention illegal or you?\
I pointed out that your nonsensical "example" would be an illegal acivity.
Now question time for you:
1. Have I said the CIA lied?
2. Have I said that Nancy Pelosi wasn't lying?
3. What was the point of saying that the CIA could be watching Pelosi's family in the bathroom (which would be an illegal act)?
4. Why did you directly connect your "example" to being a reason why Pelosi shouldn't say the CIA is lying?
Posted by: Mel | May 18, 2009 5:59 PM
You know I'd generally respond but you keep adding things I haven't said. I have not insisted the CIA is telling the truth. But when you couldn't answer #3 yes or no. that's it. Yes, she has changed her stories many times.
I'm done and thank you for the pleasant all be it frank conversation. Next time, stand up for Pelosi by not adding words I didn't say.
Posted by: PG | May 18, 2009 10:54 PM
Pg, next time don't imply that Politicians shouldn't cross the CIA because the CIA may be watching their families in the bathroom and then act all shocked an appalled when some one calls you on it.
Have a nice day. Keep a close eye out for those CIA cameras! Big Brother is always watching,
Posted by: Mel | May 19, 2009 9:34 AM
Folks, the internet can be wonderful, but when people want to change what you say, it's dangerous. Correction Example, I said, "The CIA if they want could tell Pelosi, her family and friends,..... when they went to the bathroom for the last month if they wanted to,". NOT, "CIA may be watching their families in the bathroom". There's more.....
It's why you have to watch what others write when responding to your posts incorrectly. Simple little words, but changing the whole sentence. I don't care about their personal agenda, but don't miss represent our words, with your own activism.
Posted by: PG | May 19, 2009 12:32 PM
Congressman Keith Hoekstra said it too. During his position as the (R) Chair House Intelligence Committee he wrote a letter regarding the CIA that stated: "We cannot have an intelligence community that covers up what it does and then lies to Congress" In November 2008.

Minority whip Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia), re-elected in the Republican landslide, became Speaker (previous Minority Leader Robert H. Michel having retired). Former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Missouri) became minority leader. The new Republican leadership in the House promised to bring a dozen legislative proposals to a vote in the first 100 days of the session, although the Senate did not always follow suit.
