Reading her face, like a cover, one might think Sarah Palin is a little young to have enough material for "a memoir.''
But, with the signing of a book deal, the Alaska governor and onetime candidate for vice president suggests that it's getting a little old reading other peoples' interpretations of her.
So the Republican hockey-mom-pitbull-grandma-national-political-prospect, with the help of a hired writer, is setting out to set her story straight.
"There have been so many things written and said through mainstream media that have not been accurate, and it will be nice through an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about," Palin said in an interview reported by McClatchy Newspapers today announcing the deal with HarperCollins, which wasn't disclosing the author's advance payment.
"The idea is to focus on the content of the book and what's coming in terms of me being able to tell my story unrestrained and unfiltered," Palin said, suggesting that Alaska's annual financial disclosures, due next March, will tell that part of the story - or at least the first installments on a fee being paid in stages.
The book is slated for a spring 2010 publication.
(AP photo of Palin, GOP's vice presidential candidate, on Election Day 2008).
Hired writer or no, the author of the memoir plans to put her own touch on the text.
"It will be nice to put my journalism degree to work on this and get to tell my story, Alaska's story,'' she said. "There have been so many unauthorized books and publications that have spoken to somebody else's opinion of who I am what my family represents and what Alaska is all about.''
She dismissed as "laughable'' published reports which suggested an $11 million advance fee was in the works, though she did hire Robert Barnett, a Washington, D.C., lawyer and one of the biggest agents in the book business, to negotiate the deal for her memoir. Barnett has made $12 million for Bill Clinton's memoir and $8.5 million in advance for Alan Greenspan's.
HarperCollins sounds happy about it all: ""Gov. Palin is one of the most charismatic, inspiring and controversial figures to appear on the national political stage for many years,'' CEO Brian Murray said. "She has a fascinating story to tell and we look forward to publishing what surely will be a captivating book."
The publisher says the memoir will touch on the author's time as mayor of Wasilla, as the first female governor of Alaska and her time on the national stage. It will cover her insights as a working mother with a son serving in Iraq, another son with Down syndrome and a teenage daughter who went through an unplanned pregnancy, the publisher adds.
"I just really look forward to being able to relate to people through this book, those who are anxious to hear stories about people who are facing similar challenges, perhaps,'' Palin said. "That's balancing work and parenting -- in my case, work does mean running a state, and family involves a large and fun and colorful ordinary family that really has been thrust into maybe some extraordinary circumstances.''
Life has been making her write more lately, she suggests.
"My journaling really ramped up when I found out that I was pregnant with Trig and then Track was going off to war and I found out Bristol was pregnant," Palin said of her teenage daughter, who gave birth to a baby boy, Tripp, in December, an. "When we had those episodes in our lives come to the surface, it was very therapeutic for me."

For her supporters crayons will be sold separately, proceeds from which will go to the Alaskan Center for Teenage Abstainers.

Now, she'll be writing a book not reading one, right?
Trig, Track and Tripp? What will she do when the family runs out of made-up names beginning with "T"?

[quote]Real Pit Bulls are outgoing and people loving. They are extremely friendly, even with strangers, and therefore do not make good guard dogs. Human aggression, severe shyness, and fearfulness are not characteristic of this breed, and are undesirable in any dog. Human friendliness is a hallmark of the breed.
Real Pit Bulls put their heart and soul into everything they do: whether it is climbing into your lap to shower you with kisses; or escaping an inadequately fenced yard to explore the neighborhood; or excelling at weight pull, agility, flyball, therapy work, search and rescue, explosives or drug detection. Intelligence, trainability and determination are hallmarks of the breed.
Real Pit Bulls are very adaptable and most will do well in urban settings provided they have enough personal attention, exercise and positive outlets for their mental and physical energy. While some Pit Bulls are easy going couch potatoes, others need a job to channel their energy and drive. Some may have high play and/or prey drive. Strength, confidence and a zest for life are hallmarks of the breed. These fine qualities are a virtue to some and a challenge to others.
Real Pit Bulls are rough and tumble dogs and may remain playful all their lives. One of a kind, Pit Bull dogs really know how to make you laugh. Their sense of humor is a hallmark of the breed.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. The Disasta from Alaksa is going to try her hand at book-writin' !
Her media blitz after last year's election, intended to correct the general perceptions that she was an idiot, apparently didn't take, since her popularity has been plummeting at home ever since.
Curse those danged bloggers!

I didn't know Palin knew how to read. Boss Limbaugh must be glowing right now.
Posted by: brohan | May 12, 2009 8:26 PM
Palin knows her shelf life is limited and her and Taahd are going to milk it for every last red cent they can get out of it.
She won't win another election in Alaska.
If anyone thinks Palin is actually going to write this book herself, I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you. My guess is whoever wrote Greta Van Halen Susteren's last book is going to be the ghostly writer of Miss Moose's memoirs.
Posted by: former Republican | May 12, 2009 8:26 PM
Interesting that she and others poked fun at Obama at the GOP convention for writing a memoir at such a young age.
Posted by: Mikey | May 12, 2009 8:28 PM
Nice going McCain. You picked a nobody for your running mate and now she thinks people care about her.
Palin and Paris should work together on a book called "Why I Matter". I suspect the only publisher will be the same ones that print Mad magazine. They both are a joke anyhow.

Uuuuck! Get her giant face off the front page please! I was enjoying the last several Palin-free months.

I just love reading the comments after any article about Palin. Nothing but grammar school level insults, as if you people are so much better and smarter than her. I certainly don't think she was worthy of being VP, but I don't understand the hatred for her. I actually think it is impressive that she was able to rise so fast while being a mother and having no political connections. Much more impressive than Hillary, who rode Bill's coattails to where she is today.
However, I'm sure the next string of comments will be about how stupid the hillbillies in Alasks are to elect her. Of course, she is unacceptable to all of us in Illinois. We are way to smart to elect someone like her. We elect people of superior intellect and integrity like Blago, George Ryan, Todd Stroger, King Daley, Dick Durbin, Jesse Jackson Jr, Bobby Rush, etc. Yep, we are way too good for her. You betcha!

It's amazing how much hate there is from the Liberals/Democrats.
It just shows how insecure they are and how intimidating she is to them.
Posted by: Alz | May 12, 2009 9:08 PM
To Charlie and Alz...
So this is all you have? This is your retort to the slew of Palin insults?
Charlie, I'll give you credit for a rather even-handed response, but Palin is deserving of so much scorn. She's a charlatan and an empty shell. She's the same one who took it upon herself to tell us where the "real" America is at. She's the one who still supports abstinence programs after her own daughter gets knocked up by a functional illiterate named after a pair of pants.
She deserves all the hatred and scorn and negativity people can muster.
Gee, maybe it's the "real" America speaking out?
And please, Alz, you're going to play the hate card when Palin did a ton of race-baiting during her self promotion campaign...also known as the 2008 Presidential Campaign?
Her, Joe the so-called plumber, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O'Riley...they all deserve hate.

I agree the comments are over the top. I wonder how they compare with what many of your right wingnuts are saying about Obama and liberals- you know- the commies out to take over the country with Marxism and/or Arab tterrorism. You haven't got much of a leg to stand on if you are trying point out your fellow wingnuts as fair and reasonable.

Yes DaveB, unlike the right wing hatred of wanting to see the country fail because one of their "own" didn't get elected.
Don't throw around the hate card. I've read more hateful, ignorant and most of all, untrue and inaccurate nonsense from the right wingers during the election cycle than any so-called "liberal."
You've been brainwashed by Limbaugh and his ilk that somehow the "conservatives" (which is a laughable term since none of them are real conservatives) that you're the sad victims.

No wonder reporters' opinions carry so little weight these days.

So your comparing Palin to Kennedy-
Kennedy was born into an extremely wealthy and politcally connected family that essentially thriugh it's influence was able to pick and choose which office the "boys" would be "elected" into... credentials had nothing to do with Kennedy's rise to power...
Palin accomplished her rise to leadership from a middle class family while raising a family of her own and against an entrenched good ol boy politcal network...
And all you can talk about is the education ?
You can argue about her ideology or politcal views- but dismissing her credentials is elitist and arrogant...
Ted Kennedy was given everything he "accomplished "- explaining his complete disconnect from average working class valeues and people..

If Sarah Palin is so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession?
-
Clearly the left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it's not like it's not obvious.
-
Palin has been more than a little bit successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model... this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.
-
But these Alinsky-ites surely have reason to fear her. Palin is the most popular governor in the country... are all those people idiots?
-
Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.
-
Wouldn't it have been nice if this snake Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine?
-
Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko?
-
Racist preachers?
-
Instead of doing business with every last one of them?
-
Go get em, Sarah- and don't mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion.

The President still has a few questions to answer:
Why are his grades from Columbia University a secret?
Why are the courses he took at Columbia secret?
Why is the name of his advisor at Columbia University secret?
Who was it in New York that recruited him to Chicago?
Who wrote letters on his behalf to get him into Harvard Law School?

Why are his grades at Harvard secret?

I think the tide is slowly turn against Palin. Even Bill Bennett said the other day he doesn't see Palin in the future. Of course she will always have her followers. All one must do in the republican party to have a following is say a few things to divide the country, call the opponent a few names and that qualifies them to represent the rabid. She is a trainwreck but a few still cling to her caboose. While the right likes to say we fear her in politics, it is obvious they don't realize we just think she is a clear example of everything that is wrong in the republican party. Divisive, bible totting, idiot.

"...a little young to have enough material for a memoir?"
"...with the help of a hired writer..."
Why, Mark, it I hadn't seen the headline, and the feminine subjective pronouns,I would've sworn you were describing the guy who now occupies the White House. Except, of course, that he apparently had enough "material" to comprise not one, but two, "memoirs," and, with the help of a ghost writer cum terrorist.
Nice double standard.

Then he goes on to call Palin a "Divisive, bible totting, idiot."

Bill r- you fit in well with the rest of the butthead and beavis mentality posters here- if she is such a dim wit, why are all of her detractors, including yourself, only able to voice personal attacks on her , her family, or her religious beliefs?
Typical dishonest double standard liberal tactic... hate anybody with the courage to be proud of their beliefs- for no other reason than it differs from yours...

Liz, I happen to be sane and a Democrat, but I only post under my name "Bemused." Unlike you and your fellow Obama trolls on this blog, I do not post under different names to try to fool readers that more people share my point of view. Of course, Silva can use his back channel to let you and your fellow Obama thralls know this. But in response to your silly question about Governor Palin - I have no idea, other than I do know her transcripts were released. I'm certain if someone asked, the information would be released. Obama has been asked to release his information, but he has refused. Now why is that? IObama has not released his undergrad transcripts (perhaps because he and the media are not comfortable talking about affirmative action, which in his case appears to have worked out well by ensuring that a bright African American was given an extra chance, and he took the most of the opportunity, which I think is a good thing. I think there's just panic to even go there, which is why you won't ever know his undergrad grades or his LSAT scores). Nor has it ever been fully revealed how his tuition and living expenses were paid for. Liz, please crawl back under your rock with Silva and stop obsessing over Governor Palin and me.

In other words, FedUp, because the Right engages in conduct that you find deplorable, contemptible, (pick your adjective), it's OK for the Left to descend to their level? Two wrongs do make a right? Isn't the Left better than that?
Posted by: DaveB | May 13, 2009 9:33 AM
I've been listening to that line since I was 6 (or, long about 6 A.D., for those keeping track). It ALWAYS comes from people who are trying to avoid having somebody do unto them what they've done to others, or they're trying to escape responsibility for the evil they've created.
.
Noted well that the Right has NO problem with sinking to the level of the Left, post their (Right's) complaints that it's "deplorable, contemptible", hateful, vicious, un-American, ignorant, insane/looney, and/or any other malediction they've managed to apply. It's just that, whenever it comes from the Right, it's somehow clean and dignified, a case of righteous indignation.
.
What's missing now is a careful massage of fact, logic and terminology to prove that the Right is somehow a totally innocent victim of circumstances.
.
The hateful Right -- ever good for a laugh! Thanks so much!

Remind me what that word means. Is that when say for instance, you claim you are a "conservative" and voted against the bridge to nowhere when in actuality you didn't? Or you are a "conservative" and go on a 180K spending spree for clothes? Or preach abstinance as the way to prevent teenage motherhood? Or blast Obama for a comment on special needs, then turn down 170 million in funds from the stimulus much of which was for special needs education? I have to go back to the "bridge to nowhere one more time....what really is amazing is that even once it was proved to be bunk about her stance against the bridge, she continued over and over to claim it. I guess she just figured either the right wasn't smart enough to know the truth...or they just didn't care about the truth.

Bemused, you don't hate?
Let's test this out. Can you post one good thing about Barack Obama? Can you?
I don't hate Palin, or you. I was merely pointing out that she hasn't been any more forth coming the Obama. I thinks she has some admirable positions and qualities. I find her support for families with special needs children to be a great thing, and I support her in it.
I'm also quite uilling to criticize Obama. Durrng our previous discussion of same sex marriage, I made it clear that I didn't think his position went near far enough, and that I wished he was more progressive on the issue. I also wish he would more actively pursue the investigations of torture by the previous administration. His waffling on that issue bothers me. Can you criticize Palin? I've never seen you do that. Can you criticize her for not releasing her transcripts, like you claimed she would be happy to do? I'm willing to bet your only response will be a stream of vitriol aimed at me and Obama.

Well there you go again Terry boy, putting your foot in your mouth as usual. Convienently forgettinig Ms. Palins often use of the filler word "um" such as:
"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. ... We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great um, nation."
She could also use some help with the proper use of adjectives and adverbs her language skills fits the basic deceptive profile. She hardly uses a single exclusive word in her responses, and she rarely uses “I” when speaking, which are both indicators of dishonesty. I hope she does run in 2012 because I trust the majority of America is much smarter now in recognizing her, her party and your distortions and distractions from the truth.
Oh and um, if expecting my political leaders to have a decent education means I'm a snob, well hooray for me!

I've posted good things about Barack Obama. I've criticized others when I believe the attacks on Obama cross a line (e.g. actual racism or threats of violence). I've never heard you criticize Obama - until now (pretty weak critique, I would add). I've already said I don't agree with Gov. Palin on many issues. This is the first time you had anything good to say about Gov. Palin - and it's a stereotypical gender role model issue, interestingly. Nice try, though, Liz. Now go obsess over someone else.

Where are Sarahhh's transcripts?
Mitt's draft board records???
Mitt "Slayer of Squirrels"--where are his school records?
Where are his trading records from stock manipulation days?
Where are Sarahh's term papers?
Did she buy them from some "term paper mill"?
See: I can do that too.
So far, Obama is the only one on the scene who has written two best seller biographies.
If you want to know what he thinks, buy one or both and read them.
You won't learn very much from the transcripts.
O, and as to Chicago: the real question is who suggested he move to Hyde Park.
Hyde Park is in but not of Chicago.

Bemused, you make my day. You still will not criticize Palin in any way, even on the issue you were dead wrong about. You still will not say anything good about Obama. Both acts are just beyond your capabilities. The best part is your complete lack of self awareness. I will pray to St. Sarah of the Blessed Pipeline for you to be enlightened as to the depths of your hate for Obama, and your glorification of Palin.

Scottie,
I'll pay good money to see Palin debate Sweet Caroline - she would kick her Ivy League butt.
I guess pedigree is everything with you and not, as BO told ASU students last night, "your body of work". Its all about where you went to school?
Please define "a decent education". Is it Ivy League only? Do state schools count? How about small private schools? Can the schools have a religious affiliation and still give a good education? What about attending a community college for a couple of years - does that taint one's "decent education"?
Posted by: Terry | May 14, 2009 8:23 PM
Babmi-O's and Hildabeast's memoirs were all ghost-written, too.
And, as for Bambi-O's "experience", pretty thin grist for one memoir, much less two.
Apparently Liberals' awesome mental powers extend to being able to review a book that hasn't even been written yet.
No wonder the Tribune Co. is in bankruptcy.

The sad part is Sarah Palin actually has a record of accomplishment and success in governing unlike Obama. Not one of you can name any major accomplishment of Obama as a State or US Senator. His US Senate record is rather pathetic. But he makes you " Feel Good". Wake up and leave this lady alone. She is a self made woman . Obama never CHANGED Chicago did he?

Tell me, hows that abstinance program working? Oh and by the way, last time I checked Caroline Kennedy wasnt in any elected office so whats your point??? And as usual you avoided my point about Palin using the filler word um in ref to your post about Ms. Kennedy. You guys lost and will continue to lose I have no doubts about that. Now go walk with the dinosours and build a bridge ok!

"They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
That's what happens when the flatliners get their news from SNL, Comedy Central, and MSNBC
Posted by: Terry | May 16, 2009 9:18 PM
Ya right Terry, I will give you that one about Palin however, seeing Russia from her state does not give her credit to run a country!! AND about your whore Ann Coulters lies about Gore asking Who are those guys??? The fact of the matter is he was referring to a tour group on the other side of the room!!
Twisitn the truth works on both sides my friend, unfortunately for you though when the left twists the facts its much closer to the truth then when you on the right do it!
Posted by: Scot S. Blakeley | May 17, 2009 10:10 AM
Scottie,
Nice spin on the Monticello visit. Fasle spin, but spin none the less.
Ann Coulter was not the source.
http://www.glewandowski.com/MyQuotes.html
Let's see how Al Gore's math skills were:
During the 200 campaign "George Bush is proposing to privatize a big part of Social Security and he's proposing to take $1 trillion, a million billion dollars out of the Social Security trust fund and give it as a tax incentive to young workers."
I don't ever think she stated that Alaska beong next to Russia made her qualified to be president. She was stating as governor, that yes she has to deal with the foriegn country next door to her. Governors that become president generally don't have a lot of foriegn policy issues with the exception of dealing with their foreign country neighbors if they happen to be a border state.
She had as much foriegn ploicy experience as Bush43, Clinton, Reagan, and Carter did before they became president.

First, I'd like to suggest a name for Palin's book--
The Sarah Palin Idiot's Guide on How to Prolong Your 15 Minutes of Fame
Then, I'd like to give Palin some advice--
Spend some time with Piper and Willow. Help them with their school studies, instead of using your free time to write a book.
Posted by: naughtymonkey | May 18, 2009 4:28 AM
Whatever Terry, I turst and believe my sources over your dim witted nonsense. When Palin was asked what foreign country experience she had she replied Russia is her neighbor. Those are the facts. And as for what Gore said and to whom in Monicello, you believe whatever you want ok. You do have that right. As for what I believe I have that right as well. I tend to go with real sources and not made up exagerations such as yours.
So tell me again how Palins abstinence program works?
Posted by: Scot S. Blakeley | May 18, 2009 9:07 AM
Scottie,
Keep trusting your sources and you'll have even a lower success ratio than the Cubs winning the World Series. BTW, you never named your source.
Palin's foriegn policy was about the same as any governor's before they become president or vice-president.
Abstinence worked until she quit using it.
Speaking of dimwit VP's, other than Gore, you gotta love Joe "Bunker Boy" Biden.
Posted by: Terry | May 18, 2009 10:40 PM
Terrie, um, ya remind me again of the ratio in the current Congress right now? Seems to me the republicans are the losing team these days and still have the lowest approval ratings. So my advice to you, well, dont stop what you're doing because its working! LOL MORON!
Posted by: Scot S. Blakeley | May 19, 2009 8:26 AM
Scottie,
Things go in cycles. GOP had a nice 12 year run - conservative for about 8 yrs of it. The dems will overreach, as they are started doing, and the conservatives will save the GOP once the country gets out of its Obama trance.
Scottie - never diod name your source. Then again, why let the facts get in the way of the story.
Posted by: Terry | May 19, 2009 8:32 PM
I can't say I am a fan of Palin. So her book deal doesn't really mean that much to me. But being a media industry insider, I am aware of how things go on behind-the-scenes. And I know first hand that Palin was blackballed by the media from the outset. So much of what was broadcast was at best half-truths and more often than not outright distortions of the facts. If I were in her shoes, and the media had plastered the world with lies about me, I would want an opportunity to set the record straight. So I can only applaud Palin for taking the initiative to do just that.
