Dick Cheney sits for makeup for Meet the Press.
"Enough color so I don't look like a corpse,'' the Saturday Night Live take on the former vice president asks in this season classic, "but not so much that it looks like I have feelings.''
Enter the President Bush, wondering why the Cheney is out front on the national debate all of a sudden, after leaving office..
"I spent eight years out there... saying things I barely understood,'' the SNL Bush says, "while you were nowhere to be found.''
"Dick, it's over, we need to move on.''
"We have a legacy to protect... Mr. President.''
"Just stick with the plan.... History takes forever.''

Cheney, Gingrich etc. are playng the numbers game.
The actuarial gambit.
Today Gingrich echoed Cheney.
The scorched earth version of "better safe than sorry".
With a lot of Nancy bashing thrown in.
They are so bankrupt of ideas that the only thing they offer is the silent assumption that there will be some "national security incident" (like the one many expected last October, which was trumped by the crash).
If it happens, Cheney et al. will be "vindicated" with all that implies; if not, they figure they'll be no worse off than they are with out the "do it all over again" ploy.
Same ole cynical Replicans.

I loved the skit, but I don't understand what the point of this 'article' is.

Perhaps SNL and the Tribune should try to find some incriminating skits regarding Liberals. I guess they can't find anything funny about Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or President Obama. Or perhaps the Tribune just refuses to mention anything critical of them.

Ha Ha,
Obama is so weak he needs SNL to defend him.

I think Hammond does Cheney better than Cheney does himself. That's one thing I'll miss, with Bush and Cheney out of office. They provided a lot of good satire.

Perhaps you should watch SNL more often Crawford because then you would know that SNL has done parodies of everyone you mentioned above. So that makes your point well, pointless.

I've seen many administrations come and go and this last Bush one takes the cake.
Most administrations just leave and shut up. Don't have anythihng to say for years, until the inevitable "memoir" is published.
Cheney by contrast can't keep his mouth shut.
Telling me, he's really, really worried about truth coming out, trying to muddy the waters.
Just an extension of the "Big Lie" approach of the whole Bush administration.
