The Two-Way street: Swamp says, 'Hey': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

A blog was born today.

It weighed in at about seven inches -- 226 words, actually -- and at an undetermined number of pounds. It's hard to weigh words on the Internet.

Its name is The Two-Way.

It's the brainchid of Frank James and Mark Memmott over at National Public Radio. And, before we run this metaphor too deeply into the ground, we'll let it go at this:

At least one of the "hosts'' of NPR's new news blog, launched today, will be familiar to readers of The Swamp. It's Frank James, Swamp creator, who toiled here for a little over three years before moving recently to NPR to join Mark Memmott, who migrated from the blogosphere at USA Today, at the new radioland blog.

Their mission is clear: To carry the day's news from morning to evening, forming a communicative bridge with listeners and other readers between the radio network's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, We suspect they'll find some other matters to write about as well.

The term "two-way,'' as they explain, is "an interview. Most often, it's a conversation between a show's host and a newsmaker." (And let's be really clear here today: These are The Two-Way's words.) They view it as "a good name for this blog for a couple reasons: It recognizes NPR's rich radio history. It captures the tone we want to set -- conversational and engaging.''

So here's wishing Frank and Mark and NPR all the best with their new baby. Go see them -- especially you, "Bruce,'' a regular contributor to our comment boards since we launched this site -- and tell them The Swamp sent you. And, oh, as they say in our favorite part of the real world, Come back and see us, y'all.

There's no way Bruce (or Geographically Ignorant Little Johnnie D or Terry or Paulo) will ever go over there except to whine that the topics covered are too liberal and should never be allowed to see the light of day.

I always wonder why conservatives and Republic Party enablers hate the First Amendment so much ...

Will do, Mark. And thanks for the hate, "BC." Keep it up.

And Mark, if you're looking for a topic to post on, your favorite poll, the Gallup Poll ,shows that Republicans have gained ground on the Democrats and, as of the May 7-10 poll, are tied with the Democrats. The results are at http://www.gallup.com/poll/15370/Party-Affiliation.aspx

BC,

The libs spewing their ususla hate.

Silva,

Why leave the SWAMP when I get my fill of liberal nonsense here?

Mark, I took a look at NPR's "Two-Way".

It's just a digest of news stories, something Drudge already does--and does much better.

Plus the stories are from all the usual East Coast suspects: NPR (2), NY Times (2), Washington Post, Newsday, Financial Times, Reuters, BBC and AP. Plus the obligatory Obama press release. Not one story from a source that's west of the Alleghenies, or south of DC.

"Two Way" is not worth the bother.

Bruce,
Thanks for checking out Two-Way. Welcome back to the Swamp.
