The governor of South Carolina, who skipped out for a few days to see his mistress in South America, draws inspiration in his bid for redemption from a certain Biblical figure:
King David.
The Republican governor, apologizing to state agency chiefs today for keeping them in the dark when he left for Buenos Aires for a rendezvous with his lover, told the Palmetto State's Cabinet that King David will offer a guiding path for him.
King David fell mightily, the governor reminded his Cabinet, but picked up the pieces and built from there.
The analogy may end in Argentina, however.
Sanford offered specific apologizes to the agencies that handle his security and economic development trips, saying he put those leaders in awkward spots. Sanford is repaying the state for his travel on a Commerce Department trade mission to South America last year, a diplomatic trip that was bolstering another foreign relationship.
The Associated Press contributed.

LOL! The hypocracy of the republican party. This coming from one of the wingnuts who demanded Clinton resign due to his indiscretions. At least Clinton stayed home to do it rather than skipping town without telling anyone. Oh ya and lied too about his whereabouts. Nice wingnuts. Very nice.

The prophet Nathan confronts David, saying: "Why have you despised the word of God, to do what is evil in his sight?
God then smote David and Bathsheba's child.
He's kind of judgy that way.

Who wants to play Messiah now? Democrats might have their Prophet but the Republicans might have just found themselves a King David. Next thing you know an angel descended upon Nancy Pelosi and said, "'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. Now is the time to ram in healthcare."

Are you having as much trouble keeping up with all of the Republican sex scandals as I am? Well, here's a handy flowchart to guide you along.

Bruce would give us his thoughts on King Sanford, but he's busy eating crow:
Some at redstate.com did what the Swamp journalist didn't think of doing--phoning the governor's office! And Gov. Sanford isn't "missing" at all. It's all just hype from a partisan, and increasingly incompetent, media, pandering to their declining, left-wing, and increasingly illiterate, readership. See http://www.redstate.com for the explanation.
You ought to try phoning the people you write about, Mark. The phone's a great invention. You can even talk to Republicans with it. Try it sometime, Mark.

Oh, I'm sorry Bruce, was that "hateful" of me to point out how clueless you are?

Republicans are unable to admit they are
1) unable to live up to basic standards they themselves set
2) unable to do the work to even a minimal standard (see: Republican budget w/no numbers, Republican health ins. proposal w/no numbers)
3) expect that rules of civilized society apply to everyone but them
They're hypocrites. It's self evident and doesn't need a whole lot of explanation even to the most ignorant of the public (Faux News viewers and Rush listeners). This whole thing deserves the tone of a smug "heh" as we pass by the wreckage that is the current GOP, rather than the sensationalism of a tabloid rag. It certainly deserves at least some coverage, but let's not lose sight of the fact that we (Dems) already have public support rendering the GOP mostly irrelevant.

I think Sanford should hang 'em up. He should resign due to abandoning his office and misusing taxpayer money. Shouldn't one have trouble trusting a politician that will cheat the most important person in his life? If he will cheat on his wife, what would he do to all the folks he doesn't know.
Also, if as news reports indicate that this affair has been going on less than a year, he is politically tone deaf - since his name was being considered as McCain's VP choice and after the election, his name was on the short list.
Let's correct an error on the board.
Delusional Scottie - Bill Clinton was not impeached because of his affair with the chubby intern. He was impeached becaused he lied under oath during a sexual harassment trial.

President Clinton was impeached because he won an election. Remember Newt saying he would run Clinton out of town. Reality is Newt self-destructed and left town, after using public employee's to do work for him on the taxpayer's dime, and Murdoch fronting him 4 or 5 million dollars for a book deal, when he had Rupert Murdoch's bills before him in his committee!! COMPARISON TO DAVID?? WOW!! MAYBE NEXT HE WILL TURN THE MOON GREEN!! THE EVANGELIST'S "MORAL MAJORITY" IS A JOKE. ANOTHER RIGHT WING NUT SLOGAN TO GET 20 MILLION RED NECK HYPOCRATES TO VOTE REPUBLICAN!whiteagle38

Terrie, I was shocked to see that I agreed with your post up until you had to make it petty with your insulting comment to me. Way to go Wing Nut! And by the way Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives BUT acquitted by the Senate. Just sayin...

All in all, Gov. S's conduct is far more bizzare than anything Michael J. was ever proved to have done.
Posted by: ornery | June 27, 2009 10:27 AM
Scottie,
You shouldn't be surprised. I try to be consistant on the issues.
Just had to correct you comment on the Clinton impeachment.
Ornery,
Key word in your statement is "proved". $22 million in hush money can go along way to get rid of proof.

Sanford uses his religion to judge others moral character harshly, to the extent of calling for impeachment of Clinton and resignation of others for adultery, while he is able to redeem himself thru forgiveness for the same transgression using the same religion.
What a scam! Now he is “holier than thou” once again, thru his request for forgiveness and then compares himself to King David in the bible.
What kind of religion makes 1 man self righteous (redeemable) and another reprehensible (Stanfords reference of Clinton on his adultery) for the same transgression? Is this some kind of selective religeous forgiveness? Like only GOPers need apply? An impeachable offense for Clinton, according to Stanford, but for Stanford, like the biblical King David, a forgivable transgression that requires the continuation of his power.
