A nuclear weapons-armed North Korea poses a "grave threat" to the world, President Barack Obama said today, promising to end a long-running pattern of Pyongyang creating crises only to be rewarded with incentives for backing down.

"This is a pattern they've come to expect," Obama said. "We are going to break that pattern."

Standing alongside South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in the Rose Garden, following a private meeting with the Korean leader, Obama said they had agreed that a new United Nations resolution aimed at blocking North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles must be fully enforced. The U.N., however, has not authorized military force to enforce the resolution.

Lee said he and Obama had agreed that "under no circumstance are we going to allow North Korea to possess nuclear weapons."

"We will pursue denuclearization on the Korean peninsula vigorously," Obama said. "We have not come to a conclusion that North Korea will or should be a nuclear power.

"Given their past behavior, given the belligerent manner in which they are constantly threatening their neighbors, I don't think there's any question that that would be a destabilizing situation that would be a profound threat not only to United States' security but to world security,'' the president said.

Lee said that North Korean provocations, such as its recent missile firings and underground test of what the U.S. Director of National Intelligence has acknolwedged as a nuclear weapon of "a few kilotons'' in force, will not be rewarded with financial incentives to get back in line with international demands for nonproliferation.

"They will not be able to gain compensation by provoking a crisis," he said.

Obama says one thing one day and another the next day. Hillary was going to annihilate Iran if they leveled weapons at Israel and then she turned around and said we would not protect Israel in a nuclear exchangewith Iran. She and Obama can no longer be trusted to keep any of their campaign promises.

And what will Mustapha do? A daring speech, an apology, blame Prince, blame Darth, blame Netanayhu. What a riveting movie this is turning out to be. Would have "hoped" though, that the stakes wouldn't be so high, but what a movie.

There already are some Neocon nutjobs (Bill Kristol, Brit Hume) calling for the bombing of North Korea.

I'll believe it when I see it. North Korea always gets rewarded for bad behavior. In fact, the leftists are known for rewarding bad behavior, as they are historically soft on criminals and terrorists. While I don't think that bombing is warranted at this time, it would not be unprecedented and I would hardly consider those who are of the opposite opinion to be "nutjobs". Leftist philosophy..."When it doubt, call them names."

Yeah Stevie,
I guess we should just do what the "rightist" knuckle-draggers always do in a time of crisis - start dropping bombs, invade, occupy and then declare "Mission Accomplised!" on an aircraft carrier off the coast of San Diego. That always works.....not!

This administration is out of its league. They are making it up as they go.

I couldn't agree more, Bush and Cheney should be in prison by now.

"Bush and Cheney should be in prison now?" Wonder if these words were uttered at all when 9/11 happened? Wonder in defense of your life and liberty--- that you are safe and living the good American life (that is, after working hard and achieving your dreams without waiting for the government for what you think you should deserve --- (typical of Dems mentality) --- that 8 years under the Reps wasn't that bad. Now, I see the biggest dark clouds hovering over this country since Obama won. And no one knows where "your party" will take us. Oh no! The first six years under Bush, the economy was going well. Ask many small businesses who opened many once boarded up old malls and now are going bankrupt. Thank you O. When the Dems won in '06, everything slowly went down. Not all the business owners that most of you claim as greedy bunch are bad. There were few and some of them were left-wingers. No capitalism, no food on the table, no money to take your family to Disney World. BTW, DW is huge money-making machine enterprise. Go ahead, compute all I wrote here in your head and see who'd managed this country much better. Dems' socialistic ideology or Reps' belief of individual contribution to society to enrich its citizens thereby able to help those physically or mentally unable to help themselves." Our mantra - 'we don't rely on big government-' always works, my friend. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Americans that are wanting to renovate their kitchen by asking money directly from Obama.

eva - I don't have to think too hard about it because numerous studies have proven that the American economy does better with a Democrat in the White House than with a Republican president.

Here's just one Internet article with some numbers for you to digest:

Eva,

The Leftists will never acknowledge the truth and honesty in what you have stated here. THANX.

BC, if I had nothing else to do, I probably could find just as many Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton miserable post-mortems as there are that target Prince or Darth. I personally did well during the Carter years, taking advantage of the extremely high interest rates and inflation rate, but I sure do not see the good in going back to that. I personally did very well during the Clinton years with Technology stocks like 3-Com, Intel, Cisco, and Lucent, and I can’t blame Clinton for 3-Com and Lucent eventually flaming out. I doubt that you democrats would ever recognize Newt’s influence however, in limiting Clinton’s socialist excesses. EVERYONE benefitted from the Bush tax cuts although the prevailing democrat version will never acknowledge that. For most of us, there was a good economy for the first 6 years of the evil Prince and Darth Administration. Not in every hamlet, city, or state, but on the whole, based on unemployment, job growth, and GNP, as these things would normally be measured.

The concern now should be ~ what is the philosophy and policies of the current administration. We are seeing monumental changes in our businesses and health care systems, new taxes for all kind of things that taxes will NEVER fix, our national security at risk, a debt burden so heavy that not only is the principal overwhelming but even the interest on the debt may not be manageable, bureaucratic picking of winners and losers based on some unclear criteria, changes that are being decreed that cannot be un-decreed, etc, etc. This is what someone like me or possibly Eva, would have serious concerns with, if having serious concerns would do any good. It goes much farther than choosing and liking one personality over another. These are changes for America that will affect, and effect, us forever. We are just seeing the storms on the horizon.

Django, will you rightists ever acknowledge anything good about Democrats? Will you ever give credit to Bill Clinton for the positives of the economy during his term?

No, of course not. Bill Clinton is only to be blamed for every bad thing that happened during Bush's term.
Will you rightists ever acknowledge any responsibility of the Republicans for the bad things that happened under Bush? Will you question the massive growth in Federal Government power and spending that he was responsible for? No, you won't. Anyone who had serious concerns about Bush's changes to our government (like indefinte detention of an american citizen without charges) was denounced as unpatriotic and unamerican.
