A war of sorts is being waged on the cable-news front, if perhaps a one-sided war - and the president has helped fuel the newest conflagration in that rivalry between FOX News and MSNBC.
President Barack Obama, granting interview access to all sorts of television news outlets lately, has steered clear of FOX - "Faux News, FOX Noise'' and worse, as MSNBC's Keith Olbermann calls it, suggesting last night that even the words News Channel are laughable in the context of cable-land's most popular news channel.
FOX, for its part, prefers not to engage in any public war with MSBNC -- turning the other cheek each night as Olbermann or others attack the competition on-air.
But now Obama has been engaged. Obama had time for other business-network interviewing this week in the midst of his rollout of new financial regulations - notably CNBC - but he is "scared'' of FOX's Neil Cavuto, FOX's Greta Van Susteren suggested last night. "Yes,'' said FOX's newly acquired Tucker Carlson, he is.
Obama's own words have helped stir the FOX pot.
"When you and I spoke in January... I observed that you hadn't gotten much bad press,'' CNBC's John Harwood asked Obama this week, in an East Room interview that has been noted largely for Obama's merciless swatting of a fly on his hand.
"You said it's coming. Media critics would say not only has it not come, but that you have gotten such favorable press, either because of bias or because you're good box office, that it's hurting the country, because you're not being sufficiently held accountable for your policies,'' Harwood said. "Assess that. ''
"It's very hard for me to swallow that one,'' Obama told Harwood. "First of all, I've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration. I mean, you know, that's a pretty...
"I assume you're talking about FOX,'' Harwood said.
"Well, that's a pretty big megaphone,'' Obama replied. "And you'd be hard-pressed, if you watched the entire day, to find a positive story about me on that front.''
Olbermann was prompted to declare FOX "the world's worst persons:"

On the Bill O'Reilly front at FOX, Obama has few friends indeed. However, on the Olbermann front at MSNBC, a veritable army of commentators is lined up in the evening ready to support much of the president's agenda. Now, Olbermann asserts that he and his colleagues have been plenty tough on Obama, pointing in fact to last night's report on Obama's "broken promises'' to the gay community (see the video below).
Then again, Van Susteren was not only challenging Obama's courage for his failure to show up for FOX interviews last night, but also carrying on about that "Fire David Letterman'' non-feud with one of those protestors of the retracted Sarah Palin jokes. (see the video above.)
A pretty big megaphone indeed.

I don't think Obama is scared of anything. He has no respect or vision.
You know. Like that stupid little pampered house dog that has the nerve to go up against a big, mean guard dog.

Obama is a coward and a disgrace to the office of President. The liberal media has found their darling and he can do no wrong and will defend him to the death.

If you aren't a kool-aid drinker Obama won't talk to you. Fox News invites Obama on about 20 times a day, but he doesn't show. The American people are going to get socialized medicine shoved down their throat whether they like it or not.

Fox is the most sick " news channel"
on cable. Why would Obama be afraid of this fake news channel?

Obama hasn't been challenged by anyone. At least by the next election he'll have to answer the people who ask follow up questions to his scripted answers. And he'll lose. Between now and then he'll ruin our country

Obana ain't no sissy. He got game and is afraid of no one. W was a momma's boy and an idiot--the worst president ever who left this country in the worst shape ever!!!!

Barry "Hussein" Obama is your president. If you watch fox news it usually means you are an uneducated, uncultured bigot. According to Obama bashers, if you are not part of "white christian America" you might as well not be Amerian at all. What a bunch of hicks.

Well. . .What would be the point of sitting down with Greta? She is so enamored of Palin that she can't see straight and is a traitor to educated, smart women everywhere. President Obama has a full plate and "bigger fish to fry," as the saying goes.
Find a real issue and face facts.

You all need to wake up! Obama is not afraid of any news media simply because he is not afraid. He's not stupid, either, however. You want to talk disgrace, check back over the last 8 freakin years, geniuses!

Obama and his cult of supporters are very thinned skinned to criticism. At the present Obama and the Main Stream News Media are enjoying the biggest love fest since JFK. The News Media's love affair with Obama is so obvious that I wounder why Obama and the Media just go rent a room. Only Fox News and some Talk Radio offer some criticism and Obama and his Cult can't take it. I guess Obama and his supporters expect all the News Media to act like a Keith Olbermann and some of the others on MCNBC and the New York Times. As old Harry Truman once said "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen." But in Obama's case there has not been much heat from the Press and he is complaining about it being hot in the kitchen..

Tim and Tom are the same person.
I, on the other hand, are different than Tim and Tom, who are the same person.
FOX News is, and always will be, the champion of the ultra-conservative right wingnut population. Add Beck and, more recently, Tucker Carlson (who used to be one of the few conservatives on both CNN and MSNBC) and you're got the largest grouping of majority right wing media anywhere. Next thing you know they'll be hiring hatemongers like Michael Savage, Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter and claiming that they're 'journalists'.
By the way, that so-called 'majority liberal media' that they keep fawning about? It's an urban legend created by KKKarl Rove.
Doesn't exist. But FOX would like you to think it does. Keep drinking the kool-aid, friends. You know where it got the residents of Jonestown.

Imagine what would have happened to President bush if he singled out any of the lunatic fringe at the New York Times or MSNBC.
Mark Silva would have provided quotes from dozens of "experts" condemning Bush for singling ou any new organization.
Reporters and analysts who had already called Bush a "fascist" dozens of times would be screaming for hours about un evil it is for the most powerful man in the world to single out any dissenting voice.
Morning shows on all the networks would have devoted hours of air time decrying any criticism of the press.
But Obama is the savior of the Press, and so he cannot be criticized under any circumstance, unless he does not go far enough to the left (and that would be to the left of Karl Marx himself), so anyone who dares voice any opinion different from the savior is a danger and must be destroyed.
Compared to NBC, ABC CBS, and the 4 other cable dwarfs, Fox totals about 15% of the news viewwership, and apparently, that is15% too much for Obama to handle.
Posted by: Dan C | June 18, 2009 9:31 AM
I think Obama is playing it smart. If the network is going to be openly biased to his administration, then he should not have to deal with them.
But lets get real... Fair and Balanced reporting doesn't exist. Most of the news channels have blow hards that either swing to the left or to the right and their interviews clearly show which direction they are leaning. They aren't journalists but editorialists.
So why go in to the Lion's den?

Obama gripes about "one" TV network that actually presents the other side of his controversial issues occasionally. But he neglects to note that 99.9 percent of the rest of the media, especially NBC, ABC and CBS, are supporting him like Pravda did Joe Stalin. This country needs at least a questioning media, not a bunch of slobbering starlet-wanna be's.

FOX doesn't care about the truth, just ratings - because Murdoch's losing his shirt on his newspapers.
Greta interviewed one of the Palin protestors? Big deal. I read the 'crowd' was 12-15 people in total.
The Fox Entertainment News Channel.people are pjust layground bullies: "Oh, he's scaaared!" They call Obama names, they make ridiculous claims - of course few people consider them a respectable, reliable news source. Ever hear them make a full correction or (heaven forbid!) actually apologize?
How many listening are people checking on their lies, as opposed to True Believers, anyway?

The Fox "news" station is just unhappy because they no longer have their president in power and don't have the inside tract anymore. Everytime I see a idiotic crying Glen Beck, or a loofah loving Bill O'Reilly I just laugh and think that all they have is their crazy right wing nut job audience and that is it. They are as irrelevant as most of the republicans right now and the posters who are calling Obama a coward.

Dear conservatives,
For lo these many years you have criticized the "media" as a bastion of liberalism that gave only one perspective on the news. In a natural response, you created your own party organ (shades of Pravda) in FOX News. That's all good and fine. But why or why do you think people of a different political persuasion than you would therefore give any credence at all to your version of Pravda or bother to grace it with their presence?
You do NOT care to hear anything that Obama has to say, nor can you be persuaded by his vision of what's best for the nation. Stop expecting him, therefore, to waste his time by coming to your show.

How does Olbermann stack up against O'Rielly in the ratings?
.
Could that be the source of his animosity?
.
The federal government just bought ABC and the last of their journalistic integrity. Now the President needs to advertise his newest business venture. We all know how well he did with his car and banking ventures.
.
He wants to push socialized health care. FOX news has shown that doctors, hospitals, drug companies, insurance companies, and those with reasonable coverage all oppose his plan.
.
In short, the entire health care system in the US is against Obama's plan.
.
Who is for it?
.
Every dead beat, free loading, waxball in the country.
.
In short, Obama's voting base.

He's not scared, just prefers not to waste his time. Get it!! Or should this be in all caps like you Fox fans are used to?

He is smart, I'll give him that. He only gives interviews to people that will nod their head in agreement with everything he says, and anyone offering a different opinion is shut out of the interview room. So much for the promise of total transparency in government. Is anyone keeping a running count of all the broken campaign promises?
Posted by: John | June 18, 2009 10:29 AM
Why would anyone want to be interviewed by a station that yells down anyone who doesn't agree with them? Calmly and without bias watch any interview of someone who doesn't kneel at the feet of O'Reilly and notice how much they get "talked" over... now switch to MSNBC or even Comedy Central... whether they agree with a guest or not, or make jokes after the fact, a person is allowed to speak.

While New Orleans died and our "leaders" were on vacation, Fox went out of their way to praise the "Administration." But all that is OK, right? Funny, I don't remember Bush & Co. greeting MSNBC (or most other media) with open arms. Fox News was their go-to media outlet. And why not? All the Bush White House had to do was put down anything they wanted on a piece of paper and Fox would repeat it verbatim.
Posted by: Whatever | June 18, 2009 11:08 AM
I find it funny that whenever the media says something slightly left leaning it's always the "liberal media", but whenever they're saying something completely negative about any liberal in any political position, even if what they're saying is so spun and out of context that you can hardly call it news, it's considered "fair and balanced reporting". If you want to accuse certain cable news stations of kissing Obama's ass (and I'm not denying that they do) then you have to at least acknowledge that your own conservative mouthpiece, Fox news, is clearly on the agenda to slam the president at any chance they get by any means necessary. Taking clips of speeches out of context and blowing things completely out of proportion is not what I call fair and balanced reporting.

He has been crying about Fox News since the primaries. He knows that if they find out about any underhanded dealings he has done that the MSM will ignore, they will report it over and over until someone other news outlets finally decide that they better mention something, even if it means burying it in the back of the newspaper or reporting it at 5:00a.m. when no one will see it. Right now the story is about ABC refusing to allow any ads offering a counter view to his health care infomercial be aired the day of the infomercial. So, Obama has come to own the MSM. Thank goodness Fox exists or we would never know about this shut out of differing views. FNC's viewer ship will only grow as people begin to realize this Administration is trying to ruin the Country and will turn to the news chanel that is willing to tell the truth and back it up with facts. The Chicago Way is alive and well in D.C.
Posted by: Teresa | June 18, 2009 11:17 AM
And therein lies the problem with our democracy. The media watchdogs in this country have become part of the political process, instead of unbiasedly questioning, challenging, and reporting what our government does.
The outcome of that change is that any low-watt intellect with an appropriately sized radio or television transmitter can diffuse real debate for narrow minded opinion.
This is all the more frightening when one considers the impending demise of print media. The tin-foil hat crowd will then be well positioned to further manipulate the uninformed and ignorant.

On Fox, Hillary actually got the most favorable coverage. Yes, even above McCain.
Saying that Fox is this or that is cr*p. They are the ONLY ones that will question politicians and the left doesn't like that.
Read the Harvard study. It's enlightening.
Fox was the most 'balanced' for positive and negative stories. And as mentioned, Hillary (yes, THAT Democrat) got slightly more favorable coverage than any others.

Perhaps FOX News might consider self-reflection to discover why no one wants to be interviewed except the GOP by FOX News.
Fair and balanced. Anyone that uses that as their mantra is probably just the opposite.
I stopped watching Fox News and their cable affiliates, as well as I can read and form my own opinions without Fox News help or assist in understanding the worlds problems.
This is another case where FOX news wants to spin their opinion into a set of facts. FOX should learn fromj their own past. The GOP is no longer in power and nither is FOX news. think about that outcome and offer the fair and balanced approach to that opinion.
Is the President afraid of Fox News? NO. But Fox News is afraid of becoming marginalized by the public. If the public officials do not want to be bothered by Fox news, perhaps Fox News should stop blaming others for their low viewership. The GOP is shrinking and so are their news fronts!

Watch the Charlie Gibson interview with Palin, then with Obama. OMG. 100% stark difference. Why would she go back? Heck no.
When Obama FINALLY was interviewed by Fox, he said the interview was fair. Wow, imagine that.
Take your lefty blinders and hate off for once.

The holder of the top job in this land is afraid of a shrill little cable station? I don't think so. I think FOX "news" ego is as big as the volume of their on-air blowhards.

If Obama's policies are so great why is he afraid to guest on Fox News to defend his positions? I would think he would welcome the opportunity to explain his agenda to those who have legitimate questions.

FOX manufactures news. They are the top news channel because all the right wing nuts only have one channel to watch, that re-inforces their brain-washed beliefs, while the moderates and lefties can choose from thousands of channels to get their news! whiteagle38

Fox News is a joke. The President is not obligated to sit down for an interview with them. Dick Cheney will not consent to an interview with Bill O'Reilly.
Posted by: Charles | June 18, 2009 12:19 PM
The real problem is that there are no REAL news channels anymore. They all are biased, with the preponderance of them being left of center to one degree or another. We should be thankful that there is a dissenting voice in Fox "News"; otherwise, we'd all be consuming a 21st Century version of the news a la Leni Riefenstahl.
Although the channel calls itself "Fox News Channel", it is really more well known for its tremendously popular commentary shows like Hannity, Beck, and O'Reilly. None of them claim to be reporting news and make no bones about the fact that they are political commentators.
On the other hand, Keith Olbermann is anchoring a "news and commentary" program, which is a very slippery slope. The line between news and commentary has gotten far, far too fuzzy.
Posted by: Craig | June 18, 2009 12:20 PM
the morons running down fox don't even watch it. there isn't a program on the channel where the opposing view isn't in some way presented. O'Reilly, Hannity, Van Susteren, the straight news shows have the non-wingnut view on all the time. Have you ever seen a debate on MSNBC? KO and RM only put on libs. is he a coward-what else would you call it?
Posted by: ejo | June 18, 2009 12:25 PM
I believe that many who watch the Fox "News" Channel are being brainwashed daily by the things that are said there. For instance, Bill O'Reilly kept reffering to poor Dr. Tiller by saying that he has been called by many as "Tiller the Baby Killer". Olbermann said O'Reilly said this upwards of 15 times, and this is clearly not unbiased, ethical news. Abortion is a touchy topic, and forcing an opinion onto others is the worst thing to do for topics like these. Olbermann even suggested that this was a major contributing factor to Dr. Tiller's death because it created so much hate in others. I don't know how true this is, but it certainly seems likely. Fox "News" is perhaps the worst thing in this country right now. I am fine with a biased news channel, but those channels have to address ISSUES and not just give the cold shoulder to those across the isle. As the video above clearly shows, MSNBC is not unwilling to criticize the Democratic party, and it happens many times a day. I don't believe that Fox will ever build up the courage to *see something wrong* in their arguments.
On another note; for all those who fear a socialized health care system, I wonder why you've been so satisfied with socialized police departments, fire departments, schools, and libraries? Having health care for all is much more important than libraries, in my opinion. And for those that fear long lines or terrible coverage, watch Sicko. I know you won't want to, but I think that might shed some light on how wrong you are.
As an ending point, Fox is about 5% news, 95% cheap laughs (entertainment).

It is undignified, unpresidential for a president to attack the media in this way. Obama cannot accept any criticism and simply wants to bask in the unending adulation of most of the MSM. At least Fox and a few others have not completely joined the Obama Cult, which is beneficial for us all because someone needs to hold every administration to account.

If the nation only listened to mainstream outlets such as ABC, NBC and CBS you would truly get a "distorted" view of the news.
For example, with the Health Care Bill, most outlets failed to mention (if they did at all) the PROJECTED COST of the bill (most people acknowledge it is over $1 Trillion, A trillion dollars (= $1,000,000,000,000.) or the TOTAL NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL people covered by the bill. Sort of important when we are in a recession.
I mean the King has no clothes! (not to say money). Without alternate outlets to obtain just "the facts" in other words, the complete story and its significance to the average taxpayer, we would have a nation of dummies and drones.
Isn't it interesting that once ALL the facts are out, public opinion often changes........
Posted by: Susan Jones | June 18, 2009 12:46 PM
Swipton -- "attack the media?" Show me where he said that. Obama said ""First of all, I've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration. I mean, you know, that's a pretty... "Well, that's a pretty big megaphone,'' Obama replied. "And you'd be hard-pressed, if you watched the entire day, to find a positive story about me on that front.''
He was simply stating a fact -- if you watched an entire day, you would have a very difficult time finding a story on Obama that was positive. That was not an attack. An attack would be calling them names or saying extremely negative things. The truth is Fox does everything it can to attack the current Administration. Open your eyes.

Aren't we all scared of Fox News? I know I'm scared when seemingly intelligent people claim that its the only one that is 'fair and balanced.' Just because you put a press release out saying something or incessantly keep repeating it, it doesn't mean its true. Its called Truthiness, remember?

The Bush Crime Family only did interviews with "journalists" that were favorable to the administration (i.e. would not push them). When did you ever see Bush or Cheney on MSNBC or any "Liberal Media Outlet?"
Fox was created to spread the corporate conservative agenda. There is NOT ONE "journalist" that IS NOT a right wing nut job. Why would Obama waste his breath dealing with any of these people?? You "conservatives" drank the Fox Kool Aid a long time ago. You've been trained to reject anything that Fox says is wrong so Obama is just wasting his time trying to talk to Fox. It's amazing how many of you Cons have your facts incorrect. Olberman regularly beats O'Reilly in ratings since last year night. He attacks O'Reilly bc he's the only one who'll stand up to that hate-monger. Criticize all you want but all of you calling for impeachment need to check yourself. This country did things "your way" for the last 8 years and look where it got us. It's time to try something new. You know why everyone shows Obama so much love? Because he's not a complete idiot having his strings pulled by Uncle Fester from some hidden bunker somewhere. Because the last 8 years were so bad he's going to be given a very wide swath in which to operate. We're only months into trying to repair the damage and you're throwing "Tea Parties". You people really have no idea how ridiculous you look. And because you lost and you're now in the minority you feel the need to shout even louder to be heard. Texas wants to secede? Please do. They'll be doing this country a favor. The louder you keep shouting the more you look like the crazy person on the corner. What you dont realize is that its not that we dont hear you - it's that we tune you out because your way of doing things is completely broken.

No one watches, except for the far left loons it attracts with its daily hate machine.

All you need as prove is to read what they write.

Just for giggles, let's look at what was being broadcast at the 8PM timeslot and what MSNBC and FakeNews were reporting:
Rachel Maddow spent nearly 30 minutes of her one hour show concentrating on the unrest in Iran and the b.s. election that took place last Friday. She also spent a little time CRITICIZING President Obama (that's right, neocons, PRESIDENT - get over yourselves, you lost bad) over the limited rights to 'some' same sex couples in the federal government. And before you get your blood pressure up, yes, she's a lesbian. Again, get over yourselves, but wow, there was a criticism of Obama!!!! On MSNBC!!!!
You can pick yourselves off the floor now.
Now...what was happening last night on Hannity's show? You remember that show...the so-called 'fair and balanced' show when Allen Colmes was part of it. Let's see if I can decipher this for you simple minded neocons:
BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH OBAMAOBAMAOBAMAOBAMA BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH
TERRORISTTERRORISTTERRORIST...
SOCIALISMSOCIALISMSOCIALISM
THESKYISFALLINGTHESKYISFALLINGTHESKYISFALLING!!!!
There...that pretty much sums it all up for you.
Game, set and match. FOX is is no longer relevant. You lost. Get over yourselves.
And the early poster was right - the so-called 'liberal media majority' is nothing but an urban legend. It doesn't exist. Not when 80% or so of your talking heads on the radio are ultra conservative whackjobs.
Where you got that lie I have no clue. No, actually, I do know where you got it from.

Dear Obama Supporters:
Please respond to the following questions but please be prepared to provide facts to back up your position:
1. Why is Obama raising our national deficit to 1.4 trillion dollars?
2. Has Obama been "transparent" in government decisions and policies as he claimed he would be during his campaign? (careful on this one!)
3. Has Obama filled a high percentage of his administration's positions with Chicago and IL politicians? (Is this really change - surrounding yourself with politicians from the most corrupt state in the country)
4. Has Obama set a responsible tone for restraint in spending during bad economic times (again, please be careful - $236,000 to fly to Chicago to talk to AMA).
5. Has Obama's stimulous package improved the US or world economies in any significant way? (Notice: - I'll need hard facts on this one - not just the usual "everything feels better" comments)
I'm going to stop now - I could write 50 more of these rhetorical questions and yet the Obama supporters would still claim that "He" is the best president since Lincoln.
* Sigh *

Neil Cavuto is a complete tool, repeating right wing GOP talking points day after day. I highly doubt Obama is scared of him. Van Susteren on the other hand is a scientologist, and they are very scary people indeed.
Posted by: Marty | June 18, 2009 1:59 PM
Fox "news" takes all of its cues from Republican press releases, sometimes repeating GOP talking points verbatim as "news". Now they are trying to bait the president, which is laughable because while those around him play checkers, President Obama is playing chess. I don't think most Americans care what the bleating heads on Fake News have to say. As is obvious from the responses on this thread, Fox has an army of loyal, brainwashed viewers who accept anything said on the channel as gospel. They have about 600,000 viewers, hardly enough to swing the vote in any state more populous than Wyoming or Alaska, so really, why should our president give them the time of day? At least, unlike Dumbya, President Obama actively engages people with poins of view which differ from his own.

The job of the journalists at Fox News is to instill fear into the American sheeple. President Obama has not need to fear these bullies, he just has better things to do with his time than go on a hate mongering "news" broadcast. I put "news" in quotes because they don't report news, they spew opinions about news, that's it.
Posted by: JIM | June 18, 2009 2:24 PM
This is a humerous comment: "I don't think Obama is scared of anything. He has no respect or vision.
You know. Like that stupid little pampered house dog that has the nerve to go up against a big, mean guard dog."
Everyone fears something. People like Obama don't let that fear keep them from trying. He's not a quitter. He also has respect and clearly has a vision. He would not be where he is today if he didn't.
You could learn a good lesson from your analogy of the stupid little house dog and the big mean guard dog. He's not stupid.
The little dog knows sometimes big dogs are pansies fronting as mean guard dogs. He also knows he's the smartest, but the big dog thinks he's stupid and uses that to his advantage. He's not scared to take on something bigger than him even though he may lose.
People who have confidence, initiative and courage do this daily and win even when others thought the odds where clearly against them. Other people are just born losers who are too scared to take up for themselves or attempt something new because they think they may fail. Yet, they sit at home and complain about people who do. Quitters never win. Haters need to suck it up.

Well, you asked:
Dear Obama Supporters:
Please respond to the following questions but please be prepared to provide facts to back up your position:
1. Why is Obama raising our national deficit to 1.4 trillion dollars?
BECAUSE OF THE MESS THAT THE LAST ADMINISTRATION LEFT US. IF YOU LISTENED TO MEDIA OTHER THAN FOX, YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT UNDER THE DEFICIT INCREASED FROM A LITTLE OVER 2 TRILLION WHEN W TOOK OFFICE TO MORE THAN 11 TRILLION ON THE MOST GLORIOUS OF DAYS WHEN HE LEFT.
ADDITIONALLY, BY 2030 UNLESS SOMETHING IS DONE NOW, THE DEFICIT WILL INCREASE TO $52 TRILLION, AS NO ONE IN THE GOP CONSIDERED IT NECESSARY TO FINANCE THE 2004 ENTITLEMENT CHANGES TO MEDICARE. THE $1.4 TRILLION REPRESENTS ECONOMIC STIMULUS TO GET US OUT OF THE ECONOMIC MESS WE ARE IN, AS WELL AS START TO SOLVE THE PENDING MEDICARE CRISIS.
2. Has Obama been "transparent" in government decisions and policies as he claimed he would be during his campaign? (careful on this one!)
HE HAS BEEN IN OFFICE 5 MONTHS. NO WAY TO TELL. THAT IS A QUESTION THAT NEEDS TO ASKED IN 2012.
3. Has Obama filled a high percentage of his administration's positions with Chicago and IL politicians? (Is this really change - surrounding yourself with politicians from the most corrupt state in the country)
AND BUSH SURROUNDED HIMSELF WITH TEXANS. ARE YOU AWARE OF CORRUPTION ON THE PART OF THE ILLINOIS CONTINGENT ON THE ADMINISTRATION? IF SO, I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT FOX NEWS!
4. Has Obama set a responsible tone for restraint in spending during bad economic times (again, please be careful - $236,000 to fly to Chicago to talk to AMA).
AND THE 77 TRIPS FOR W TO THE CRAWFORD RANCH? WERE THEY DONE FOR FREE?
5. Has Obama's stimulous package improved the US or world economies in any significant way? (Notice: - I'll need hard facts on this one - not just the usual "everything feels better" comments)
WOW THAT IS A TOUGH ONE TO DEFEND. IT'S BEEN 4 MONTHS SINCE THE STIMULUS PACKAGE WAS ENACTED. THINGS DON'T HAPPEN IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY AS QUICKLY AS THEY DO IN AN EPISODE OF AMERICAN IDOL. IT WILL TAKE YEARS TO WORK OUT OF THIS COMPLETELY.
IT TOOK REAGAN'S TAX CUTS 18 MONTHS TO TURN AROUND THE ECONOMY IN THE MID-80'S. CURIOUS TO KNOW IF YOU WOULD CONSIDER THAT PERFORMANCE TO BE A FAILURE?
I'm going to stop now - I could write 50 more of these rhetorical questions and yet the Obama supporters would still claim that "He" is the best president since Lincoln.
* Sigh *

I'D SUGGEST THAT YOU GET AN ALTERNATIVE PERSPECTIVE ON THESE ISSUES, BUT I DOUBT YOU COULD HEAR ME OVER THE LOUD BLATHER OF FOX ON THE TELEVISION!

Would Obama go on the Lou Dobbs show on CNN? Dobbs has been critical as well.
What really alarms me is that Obama's stimulus and bailout programs is UNPRECENDENTED in American history and there is no real debate about it.
The first step in solving a problem is defining it.
Well, maybe I missed it, but why wasn't there an independent and bipartisan commision set up to find out exactly how this economic meltdown began BEFORE putting my children and grandchildren in debt?
There has been a major rush for OBAMA'S stimulus and bailout package with no real debate, discussions or challenging questions from most of the media.
BTW - everyone knew GM and Chrysler would go bankrupt back in February yet Obama still gave them billions of dollars in HOPE of them avoiding bankruptcy, which was clearly the best way to untangle the financial problems.
So, yes, Fox News and Lou Dobbs are challenging the Obama administration and ringing the alarm bells in this unprecendented moment in history.
Maybe Fox goes to far sometimes but it is providing an opposing view and criticism not heard ANYWHERE else.
Remember, months after Obama threw his hat in the ring to be president, Fox news broke the Rev. Wright story by simply going into Obama's church bookstore and buying a videotape of Wright's sermons. This is a perfect example how the media failed to vet Obama.

Barry is a thin skinned guy who really can't take criticism. The only reason he is in office is that every other TV "News" channel and their Old TV cohorts are desperately in love with him. From the owners on down to the on-air personalities there is no one who would dream of standing up to Obama and asking him a hard question. They would be castigated, marginalized and then fired.
Fox news is popular because the people who watch it realize that they are getting real news. Not pictures from the media love affair with Obama, but images and discussion about what is actually happening every day.
Most libs pretend the world is how they want it to be rather than dealing with it how it is. When someone or something (like Fox News) interrupts that dreamland they immediately begin to hurl every bad thought they ever had at the offending entity.
Time to wake up and see the world how it really is before Barry wrecks the US.

I used to watch all other news channels perhaps not consistently, but I would watch CNN Lou Dobbs. Then it became the Clinton News Network. Since Obama, I have watched practically none of the others except CNBC. MSNBC and NBC in general is a disgrace to journalism and continues to fall in its ratings. It will go bust soon because no one watches the garbage spewed out of its pathetic liberal commentators who don't even have their facts straight. No one wants to advertise there either even GE is advertising during Bill O'Reilly's show. What does that tell you? Even Obama "cares" about what Fox says about him and his abilities to govern. Why? Alot of people watch Fox to get the truth and objective reporting. Indeed some get carried away, but if other networks and newspapers did fair and objective reporting then this would not be the case. Obama has been given a pass. It is transparent. His leadership abilities are weak and he lacks the experience to put America back on the road to prosperity. He has spent a huge amount of money that the U.S. does not have and now our children and grand children will have to pay for these deficits. I completely disagree with his policies, his associations, and above all his lack of experience to be our President.

1) Because if he didn't, the next guy would.
2) By "transparent" I think you mean "see-through," and only Michelle can answer that.
3) Yes. Clinton's from Park Ridge, after all.
4) Absolutely right. The President, should he need to communicate with people, should email. For his poorer constituents, they can read the newspaper they sleep in. Should he find travel unavoidable, do so w/o protection because there are no right-wing nutjobs trying to kill him.
5) Hard facts: stone, steel, jawbreakers (Ever try one of these? They're really tough!)
I could answer, like 50, more of these, so keep 'em coming. But only after I tend to Obama and Obama, my re-named 20-something kids.

I'll bet you 99% of liberals posting on this board are worthless, unproductive looters either working for a union, the government or unemployed. What do you think will happen when you run out of other people's money? Bunch of collectivist scumbags.

Who has filled in those shoes? Our movie star Prez surely doesn't have the time. The election is only 4 years away!

What's scary about Fox News is that they broadcast lies, innuendo, fabrications, misstatements of facts and have absolutely no journalistic integrity whatsoever, instead merely serving as a rather pathetic propaganda agency, and there are people who are either so stupid or so desperate to have their world view affirmed that they will believe these lies and fabrications without any independent research of their own.
Then again, Fox News is not in the business of catering toward people that would or even COULD do their own research to apprise themselves of the facts. The people that watch Fox News do so to have canned talking points and a canned agenda fed to them while they do a minimal amount of thinking or research on their own.
This propaganda agency does not deserve the legitimacy that a presidential appearance on their despicable and disingenuous network would afford to it.
The people who watch Fox News are those whose education is limited to what they've been conditioned to repeat on cue by talk show hosts, but who possess absolutely no worthwhile intelligence whatsoever.
Frankly, I think anyone who WATCHES the news rather than reads the news would do the nation a service by staying away from polling places. Same thing goes for anyone who ascribes to brand-name politics and ignorant ideological labels.
If you have to call yourself "conservative," "liberal," "Republican" or "Democrat" that just tells me that you're too stupid to come up with your own opinions, rather just spewing some canned agendas that were spelled out for you by someone else.
Then again, if voters were truly intelligent, we'd have people finding solutions rather than scapegoats. Any IDIOT can assign blame; it takes a bit of smarts to actually address issues, however.

I sometimes can't watch "The Office" because I become so embarassed for Michael. I do watch it because I realize that's Steve Carrell's schtick and he so expertly produces in us that uncomfortable squirm and nervous laugh.
But I don't think that the uncomfortable squirm and nervous laugh that the FOX News people evoke is intentional. IIt's not schtick. It's the reality that art parodies. And I can't watch that.

ummm...just because you say something doesn't make it true (e.g. the poster who claims more Dems. watch FOX than any other news). If you are going to spew 'facts' you need to back them up with objective sources (not going back to FOX for quotes to 'prove' they are better). And RCK - screw you. Or better yet, I'll take that bet - you owe me big.
When you rant and rave and spew 'facts' without proof, you deflate your own argument. No one believes you or takes you seriously. But, hey, whatever. As long as you're having fun...right?

The facts according to lib Stewie..."It's amazing how many of you Cons have your facts incorrect. Olberman regularly beats O'Reilly in ratings since last year.." This comments demonstrates that Stewie is either a liar, an idiot or illiterate. My guess is all three. The actual ratings are published daily in TV Newser,here..
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/
Have one of your kids show you how to access this site. When you get there, you will see that O'Reilly consistantly doubles Oberdork in the key viewer demographic (This concept is clearly too complex for you to understand, but it's good news for O'Reilly, because it means that advertisers pay a lot more for a minute on Fox than they pay for MSNBS). Regarding your bogus allegation that Oberdork beats O'Reilly, yada, yada, yada....This comes from a frequent Lame Stream Media(no surpirise here) commentary about the growth of their relative viewership (Usually lauding Oberdorks "meteroric" increase in viewership.) Let me explain "growth" in terms even a liberal might understand. Bill has 1000 apples. Keith has 2 apples. Each of them acquires 1 more apple. Bills apples have increased by .1%, and Keiths apples have increased by 50%. Keith has experienced "meteroic" growth in his apples, but the sad truth is that at the end of the day, Bill has 1001 apples and Keith has only 3 apples.
For Stewie and many of the lib posters here, I'd recommend reading a little Mark Twain. "it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt."

Chris,
Just had to reply to your responses above.
Basically, you agreed with the previous poster on 4 of the 5 questions (but you probably don't even realize it).
1. Why is Obama raising our national deficit to 1.4 trillion dollars?
The deficit in 0bama's budget is his own. It has nothing to do with the previous administration, it has to do with 0bama's desire to push through an agenda whether the country can pay for it or not. When people complained that Bush was not a fiscal conservative, I would point out that if the Dems were in power, they would double the deficit. I was being kind. They actually quadrupled it.
2. Has Obama been "transparent" in government decisions and policies as he claimed he would be during his campaign? (careful on this one!)
It is NOT "too soon to tell". He should have been "transparent" from Day 1, and he clearly has not been.
3. Has Obama filled a high percentage of his administration's positions with Chicago and IL politicians? (Is this really change - surrounding yourself with politicians from the most corrupt state in the country)
Again, this has nothing to do with Bush, it has to do with 0bama practicing the "cronyism" that he and the rest of the Dems charged Bush with, and campaigned against.
4. Has Obama set a responsible tone for restraint in spending during bad economic times (again, please be careful - $236,000 to fly to Chicago to talk to AMA).
Again, no relation to Bush's trips to Crawford here. This is what 0bama is doing, and whether it is good for the country or not. Personally, I'm offended that 0bama is using the taxpayer's (mine and yours) money so he can get a little extra nooky from Michelle.
5. Has Obama's stimulous package improved the US or world economies in any significant way? (Notice: - I'll need hard facts on this one - not just the usual "everything feels better" comments)
I would agree with you a bit on this one, because of the short time elapsed since his inauguration, except for the fact that 0bama claimed that things would be better by now if we accepted his stimulus package. Well, we did, and they aren't. He is missing the targets of his own predictions, and THAT is what is being criticized here.
So 0bama and his people either didn't know what they were talking about (which means we can not trust their expertise or their opinions), or they knew and simply lied (which means we can not trust them, period), just so they could get the money out to their supporters. Or some combination of the two.
And if you are so smart, why don't you learn to turn off your Caps Lock key?

Only the mentally challenged and republicans watch Fox News. Fox News isn’t even registered/regulated as a news outlet. Fox News entertainment so they don't have to tell the truth at any time, and can make things up as they go. Fox News is entertainment and not news. Just ask Rupert Murdoch or Roger Ailes.

I note that the largest political bloc in America --- 40% ---is Conservatives. Obama might want to talk to them. They watch Fox. I conclude that Obama's reticence to appear on Fox where he can address the largest political bloc in America is because he is afraid.

NBC, MSNBC and CNBC State run TV.

Big story about nothing. I watch Fox. I watch all of them. MSNBC to watch a complete disgrace of a news station - comedy I call it. CNN for the moderate/liberal slant. And Fox to keep the the NBC, ABC, CNBC and certainly MSNBC's honest. The Brian Williams internvew was nothing less than a joke. Bill O'Reilly who can be painful to watch was the only interviewer to give Obama a tough interview...and he wasn't even that tough on him. Obama has a free pass. Bashing Fox News is just another one of his great diversion tactics. I didn't see the Harwood interview. Did Harwood ask him a real question this.
Harwood: You stated recently that you feel the stimulus is working. How do you measure that Barry? The unemployment rate is at least a percentage point higher than you team projected. Can you help the American people understand why this plan and these new regulations haven't helped?
Obama: It's Bush's fault. John that is going to be the standard answer for the next eight years. The lemmings that follow me eat that up. I am going to run with it for as long as I can. All I have to do is read a teleprompter, speak well, throw in the occasional smile. And the lemmings just shake their heads in approval. It's great John. Nice try on the tough question though.

It's a very smart strategy for Obama to attack Foxnews. Makes sense to reach the swing voters who watch that channel. Foxnews has been continously campaigning for the Republicans by barking at every move Obama does. Foxnews understands their party has a serious challenge ahead and need to start now for 2010 & 2012.
Posted by: JPS99999 | June 19, 2009 12:21 AM
The truth is that CNN, NBC, and CBS are in love with obama but that doesn't mean they don't have any critics. If you really want to here some good old fasion hate then you turn to FOX and listen to ann Coulter to trap and torture a liberal. Plus you can listen to glen beck who is a liberaltarion, cries over PETA death camps for conservatives and where the hell was his tears when the patriot act came around. The only plus i ever heard on FOX NEWS about Obama is Bill O say that he has nice shoes. Now the truth is that all news is bias to the person who reports it and the only people who can truely report it, is the people who do not have a stake in the issue.
Posted by: Fergy | June 19, 2009 1:02 AM
Obama is absolutely afraid to face any Journalist who is willing to ask him tough questions he can not evade. For instance; no one has asked him why he lead the American people to believe 200,000 Germans rallied for him in Berlin when actually it was a very well orchestrated photo op at a free rock concert so what precedent does this set for the conduct of future Presidential campaigns ? The White House Press Corps is more like a bunch of giggling school girls than journalists with integrity and a keen sense of and thirst for the truth.
Posted by: David Earl-Graef | June 19, 2009 1:35 AM
There are several reasons Obama does not Fox News.
His aides would not be able to type up his answers fast enough for him to read off the telepromter.
Hence making the telepromter useless.
Anytime he is asked a challenging question he gets lost. Most of his "press conferences" he already knows the questions, at fox he will not get them ahead of time.

Ian M. is quite correct.
Everything on Fox is a set-up.
They were "darkening" images of Obama during the primaries.
Obama does not have to give them the time of day.
In fact, Olbermann may actually be raising their ratings.
I'm sure Rupert believes that "there is no such thing as bad publicity". All publicity is good to Fox.
So, I think Obama's "benign neglect" of obviously biased right wing media outlets with grudges to settle, is exactly the right treatment, or non-treatment, of them.
Posted by: ornery | June 19, 2009 12:03 PM
It seems that Obama got it correct when he compared the likes of O'reilly, Hannity, Rushbo etc. to the World Wide Wrestling Federation.(WWF) Fox is NOT news...it is ENTERTAINMENT and FAKE! (Watch Letterman interview O'reilly and he aludes to it...and Billo won't concede but smiles wryly like he "knows" (No one can be as crazy as O'reilly seems to be...ask him about his sex tapes when he harassed his producer) The entertainers on Fox are paid huge sums of money to summon up heated emotions in those who waste their time watching their nonsense just like the "professional" wrestlers. Olbermann has a brain and it would be fun for the two to have an actual debate following debate rules some day. Talk about a huge ratings Coup d'état! However, Olbermann needs to quit with the "worst persons in the world segment" as all he does is give credence to the entertainers on Fox.

B--- Jon Stewart should be appointed media czar, immediately.
C---You know the news in the toilet when comedy becomes fair and balanced and news becomes comedy.

I was watching CNN all the time up until about 1 year ago. I think it was Campbell no bias no bull when I turned to my wife and said ' Some thing is very wrong '. I did not know whatt it was or how bad it was at the time. I started to check multiple other sources of information to include the overseas press. I now know what was wrong and I do not trust a single thing they report. I call them the Communist News Network when I speak with my friends. This is pretty close to what they have become. Big money in high places with a love for OBAMA is pulling the strings at CNN. Their ratings are tanking along side with OBAMA

Barack Obama does give us hope. Hope for americans who want to be successful by working hard for it. The misunderstanding i see with the poor is that President Obama is going to make their lives better then they were in the last 8 years. Only the individuals themselves can make that change through hard work and blaming others for their choices and problems. President Obama is a great role model, but he is not going to give you a free ride if that's what you are hoping for. As for Fox, it is the only network i watch now. Many of there hosts are anti Obama, but the information is better. There is a reason they stomp the competition. Sean Hannity is to Obama just as Olberman was to Bush. Those guys are just bitter queens and are looking for small time ratings. O'Reily as a host is independent minded and gives everyone a fair shake, but he will not give anyone a pass when something is wrong. That's why he doubles and sometimes triples in cable news ratings. Everyone always hates the best even if they do the best job. I have never met a person i agree entirely with or a person that is perfect. President Obama is my president and i think he will be great, but I won't always agree with him just as news networks won't. and that's the reality.
