By John McCormick and Stacy St. Clair

Malia and Sasha Obama are starting their summer vacation with a trip to Europe.

The White House confirmed Thursday that the girls will join their parents at ceremonies Saturday marking the 65th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, then stay on in Paris for several days with their mother.

The girls, ages 10 and 7, have made numerous trips to their father's native state of Hawaii, but have never before been to Europe. They traveled to Kenya with their parents in 2006 and are expected to make numerous additional overseas journeys now that they live in the White House.

The eventful weekend for the First Daughters follows completion today of their first semester at the Sidwell Friends School in the Washington, D.C., area.

President Barack Obama is traveling through the Middle East and Germany, before joining his family in France on Friday.

Somehow, the right-wing lunatic fringe will find a way to be (fake) outraged about this, you watch.

Is the U.S. Court setting the right precedent for all future underwater finds?

Oh dear, I hope they're flying coach on a commercial airline, otherwise the right-wing blowholes will be wringing their hands and whining over how expensive it all is.

If anything, the Obama family will set a new tone, guide, for other African-American or black families. It's not a secret that, though not unheard of, minorities in this country-- are less likely-- out of monetary reasons or "ghetto" attitude-- look to visiting foreign places as a way to expand their horizons. Same thing with the way he treats his wife going out for visible randevouz-- to the discontent of taxpayers-- still impacts the perception in and out of the black community in soft ways.

This will sure set the ranting righties off. The only people they hate more than the French are the Obamas.

Rant- Who is picking up the tab during this recession, the taxpayers? Sure the White House Briefing will never be honest on the subject.

I have no doubt that the Obama girls will act better than the drunken Bush twins did in public.

It takes an awful lot of stupid to get kicked out of Argentina:

As a ranting member of the right fringe element - I want to say, I hope the two young ladies will enjoy their first trip to Europe. It will be exciting for them and educational on this anniversary of D-Day. I read somewhere that the President's Uncle plans to be there. It will be a day of reflection and rememberance for many families and I applaud the President and Mrs. Obama for including their children's attendance at this ceremony. Last but not least, why not get in a little shopping and do a little sightseeing while they're there, I would!

Yep, want to complain...but every previous president dragged their family on trips.

Is grandma going, too?

Who's footing the bills for room, food for grandma? and the kids?

How come there isn't a government website to see ALL travel costs, who went on trip, where they stayed, what the cost was for meals, shows, etc.

Want this for ALL elected officials!

Let's face it, all elected officials take advantage of taxpayers' dollars.

We're just tired of it and now with computers want an accounting posted on the web.

Seeing as how you can hardly spell your name correctly on a regular basis, I highly doubt that you would able to comprehend an accounting print-out, even if we super glued it to your forehead.

Why do Republicans hate education?

Loons, if this was a conservative Republican president that took a trip to New York to see a play and have dinner and now his girls would be spending vacation time in Paris on the taxpayer dime, you Lefty Loons would be having meltdowns to end all meltdowns.
Nothing wrong with the girls going to France for the Normandy services, it actually will be a memory and an educational one for the rest of their lives. I do think several days in Paris with mommy and whatever other entourage while e deep recession continues is wrong though.

I wonder if John D. thought it was wrong for Bush #41 to run to his dad's ranch for a vacation 2 days after the 9/11 attacks. A deep recession...brought about by the worst President in U.S. history and the Republican party.

In view of the deep recession John D is wearing sack cloth and ashes and surviving on bread and water to show his deep solidarity with the poor and unemployed.

Clearly it isn't tax dollars footing the trip because that would obviously come to surface. What's wrong with a little vacation? It's educational for the girls, it's close to their birthdays, I mean seriously, better things to focus on.

Wow, I might have missed it but NOT one post asks, Why didn't the woman go to Saudi Arabia, Egypt?

I guess presenting the wife and girls, (they are second class to men, not even worth mentioning) in burkas completely clothed would undermine how wonderful Islam is. You people are inconsistent. Especially you second class humans, woman.

@PG , Iv tried to understand what the hell your comment means for the past 10 minutes. Why are you so bloody incoherent? Or is it a witty albeit failed attempt at sarcasm?
