The weeklong feud between late-night's David Letterman and last-year's Sarah Palin came in for a landing this morning on the Today show, where Matt Lauer interviewed the Alaska governor.about the comedian's lines of attack.
"If you must,'' Palin told Lauer -- but then she had a script about the "self esteem'' of young girls all ready to read..
It wasn't so much the "sluttly flight attendant'' line about her makeup in a recent tour of New York that upset her, she said. "My first thought was, hey, don't disparage flight attendandts,'' Palin said, "we love them.''
It was the reference to her daughter and "A Rod'' at Yankee Stadium that got her going. Palin called Letterman's line about the two in center field "a sad commentary of where we are as a society." The subject also got radio's John Ziegler and MSNBC's Contessa Brewer going this week, after Letterman let an over-the-top Top 10 list on Palin rip at the start of the week.
Palin and Lauer spoke at length today about a natural gas pipeline that the Alaskan is trying to build, but most pointedly about Letterman's laugh-lines.
Told that Letterman has said he was not referring to Palin's youngest daughter, the 14 year-old Willow, her mother called it "extremely naïve'' to think that he was not talking about the daughter that was with her at the Yankees game.
"Willow would no doubt want to stay away from David Letterman,'' she suggested, asked if this, too, wasn't in bad taste. "No, it's not in bad taste.''
Settling the score seems unlikely. "He doesn't have to apologize to me,'' Palin said of Letterman. But she'd like to see him apologize to young girls across the country.
.
"It's not cool,'' Palin said. "It's not funny.''

She has some kind of learning disability.
Remember McCain, your old boss?
Remember what happened to him when he tried a feud with Letterman?
Do ya want some of that, Sara baby?

I'd have to agree with Sarah Palin on this one, but then I've never found Letterman particularly funny. At best, I think Letterman is at the "hehehe... how droll" stage of the humor scale, and more often than not he's more at "Eewwwwwww!!!!! For PETESAKE just SHUT UP!" That kind of explains why I don't watch his show unless there's a guest I just gotta gotta listen to. Last one I remember seeing was in about 2004-ish.
.
Of course, it wasn't cool for Palin to have gone around proclaiming that Obama was "palling with terrorists" or for her to have sat by and done nothing except smile while her flock of worshipful followers were shouting "kill him" (about Obama) at her rallies, either. Funny that part doesn't get thrown into this story. Brucie must be having a fit over how biased the whole thing is. Oh, that's right...it isn't biased IN FAVOR OF THE REPUBLICANS, so it's all right that it gets left out.

Mark, if Sarah Palin is "last year" as you say, then why have YOU spent so much time covering her in the Swamp? Granted, this dust-up with Letterman is newsworthy, but what about the dozens of other Swamp items you've written?
I also get a kick out of your dismissive tone over the Letterman dust-up. Palin hit it out of the park, so to speak, in her interview with Lauer here. There has been a definite political double standard regarding coverage and targeting of politician's children. And, sorry, whether Letterman was "joking" about the 14-year-old Willow or the 18-year-old Bristol, it was still very poor taste and wrong. Funny, that the Swamp censored my Letterman "joke" in which I replaced the Palin daughter with the daughter of a person very much tied in with the Swamp. So, if that "joke" was deemed offensive and inappropriate to use the daughter of someone else, then it's offensive and inappropriate to use the daughter of Sarah Palin. The double standard of the Leftist Corrupt Media and it's lack of credibility are alarming!
Posted by: John D | June 12, 2009 10:36 AM
This is all a distraction by the members of the right wing media . They really don't want anyone discussing the connection between their overheated baseless rhetoric that Obama was going to take everyone's guns and the note left by the Holocaust Museum shooter saying "You want my weapons -- this is how you'll get them." The rhetoric of the right wingers has real, deadly, consequences, far more serious than Letterman's joke. Their distraction is working. Shame on us all.

Posted by: bill r. | June 12, 2009 10:57 AM
How pathetic. John D and other apologists for Palin's fake anger is predictable, if not laughable. Palin is so desperate she'll use her own kids as props. She had Bristol on the cover of People magazine for God's sake. Now she wante to set up a fight pitting Dave and the NY/Hollywood elete against the mainstream--mainstream wackos maybe...I know, what a surprise.
Posted by: gibster | June 12, 2009 11:01 AM
OK, what if his joke involved Chris Brown shtupping and slapping Malia Obama? The Obama worshipping media would be apoplectic.
Dems, get over your blind hatred of the other party- sex jokes about underage girls and professional athletes, no matter whose daughters they happen to be, will never be funny. If you can't apply this principle despite the fact that the joke involved Palin's kid, you need to recheck your moral compasses and decide what you really stand for.
Posted by: John | June 12, 2009 11:03 AM
Michelle asked, "When are the Republicans going to get over their perpetual victim mentality?"
They won't. They have learned from their Religious Right wing of the party that it's an effective strategy. The Religious Right is always complaining about how Christianity is under attack in this country, and how they are having their rights taken away. It's proved an effective strategy to gain sympathy and win laws which unconstitutionally promote (Christian) religion.
The GOP leadership are adopting this strategy to try to gain sympathy, hoping it will translate into election of their candidates and a backlash against those they are targeting.

It seems as the old double standard is being applied to this slug, excuse me comedian.Does everyone have a short memory, look what Don Imus went through and for a lot less. This guy should be vilified. tarred and feathered and ran out of town. But, then again what about the slugs in the audience that laughed at this "joke".

Palin is an ignorant dimwit. She needs to go back to Alaska and take her trashy husband and kids with her.
Limpbaugh, Hannity, Weinerman Savage, and others barf up hate, intolerance, lies and falshoods and anti American garbage everyday. For 8 years we heard all sorts of jokes and nasty remarks and comments about the Clintons and their daughter Chelsea. The Republicans thought it was all so funny. Now they can't handle it. I do not even watch Letterman but who should be surprised he said this. He makes jokes about everyone. Letterman doesn't owe anyone an apology, especially Palin.
Posted by: Doug R. | June 12, 2009 11:17 AM
It's ok when liberals/democrats make disparaging and disgusting remarks about conservatives, but if the tables are turned they go ballistic. Case in point: a likeness of Obama was hung from a noose - and outrage was immediate. If a joke is made at the expense of a gay person, ethnic minority or some other favored group - again outrage. Case in point: Imus and his comments about the nappy headed.... So, if it's not ok to make such remarks in those cases, why should it be ok when such disgusting remarks are made about conservative people. Double standard.

David Letterman is totally in the wrong. His "apology/excuse" was no such thing. If he had made any of these comments/jokes against Michelle Obama or the Obama daughters or Hilary Clinton and Chelsea there would be a total uproar from everyone in the media, women's support groups, etc. Where are the other women who are outraged by this? He clearly made this joke against Sarah Palin's 14 year old daughter who was with her at this game. Why is it ok for Sarah Palin and her family and other Republican women getting bashed but it's not ok for Democrat women and children to get bashed? What is wrong with all you people to say this is ok - it's just a joke? It's not ok to make comments/jokes about any children of any person in politics. Keep their kids out of this. To make sexual comments/jokes about a 14 year old or 18 year old is inappropriate. Letterman should apologize. Where is the outrage?
Posted by: Kathy F | June 12, 2009 11:34 AM
I have never been a big Letterman fan, but he is a late-night talk show host and she is someone who wanted to be the vice president of this country. So it seems to me that she should ignore his crazy remarks, like most every politician does on both sides of the aisle -- unless she craves the attention for herself or her family.

I agree with Palin on this. It is totally inappropriate to make sexual "jokes" about kids. It does not matter if they are children of politicians or otherwise.
And she is completely correct in the double standard. Obama says that his family is off-limits, and immediately it is. But, Palin's kids are considered fair game.
There also is the issue of sexism, and the flight-attendant slut "joke." This is just another example of how conflicted our society seems to be with women in leadership positions. These types of "jokes" were also aimed at Hillary during the Primaries.
Posted by: Lin | June 12, 2009 11:44 AM
Because of this, it is "open season" on Letterman's or Barry O's slutty wives? As long as it is okay to joke about MLB players knocking up under age children in the stands at Yankee Stadium, who will tell the first joke about Barry O's pickaninnies getting knocked up in a DC crack house?
Barry O and his family will get the same respect that the governor of Alaska gets.
Posted by: BDD | June 12, 2009 11:45 AM
Dave has lost his edge over the last few years and needs to scape the bottom of the barrel for laughs. I say tee off on Sarah Palin but you have to lay off the kids. The kids have no choice about being in the public eye and don't deserve to be the punch line on a bad joke.
Posted by: Bill | June 12, 2009 11:47 AM
The reason that letterboy said what he did was because he couldn’t stand the fact that Palin drew over 20,000 in Auburn, got a warm reception by 12,000 at the Autism walk, and received an award from Independent Group Home Living Foundation. Essentially, he wanted to change the subject so he first called Palin a slut, and then went after her 14 year old daughter. Letterboy is pathetic, and the Palins have every right to be offended by the jerk.
Posted by: greg | June 12, 2009 11:49 AM

I think Palin is right on this one (never thought I'd say that). I found Letterman's joke in poor taste.
Unfortunately, I stopped feeling sorry for the Palins as soon as Sarah decided to make political hay out of it. This stopped being about defending Willow Palin's honor (or whatever) a long time ago. Now this is about Sarah Palin getting in front of every camera she can find and playing up her "East coast elites vs. folksy real Americans nonsense."
We get the point, Sarah. You can go away again.

Posted by: Batboy | June 12, 2009 11:58 AM
Extremely naive? Quite the opposite, only someone as idiotic as Sarah Palin could possibly think that Letterman was referring to the daughter that never was in the news and no one knows anything about rather than the 19(?) year old daughter who was paraded in front of the media and has given multiple interviews. Hint, Sarah -- jokes don't work when they're referring to someone no one knows about or cares about. Besides, the joke was about the lecherous Eliot Spitzer, not your daughter.
Manufactured outrage, plain and simple. But what else do you expect from Palin, desperate to keep herself in the spotlight. I really hope Newt runs for the GOP nomination in 2012 (even though he won't win), he'll destroy her so bad in a debate we'll never hear from her again. Palin just makes people think Republicans are a bunch of know-nothing morons.
Posted by: Chicagoan | June 12, 2009 12:02 PM
McCain once joked that Janet Reno was the father of Chelsea Clinton and never apologized--where was the outrage then?
Palin claimed she didn't want to talk about it--but had a prepared speech???
The joke was in bad taste, but so was Palin's comment about keeping her daughter away from Letterman.
Posted by: wally | June 12, 2009 12:05 PM
As a general thing, I do think Letterman and other comedians routinely cross lines I'd rather they didn't. This is one of those times, but it's not worse than countless others. But you know it's deliberately over-the-top and aimed at a cheap laugh. It's kinda' part of the joke. And this one impugned A-Rod the most--so far even he's smart enough to let it go.
Posted by: MK | June 12, 2009 12:05 PM
I'm shocked by the big deal that the Palin family is making out of this, giving it more public exposure than it deserves and dragging their young daughter, Willow, into it to score political points for Sarah.
I heard Letterman tell the joke and he didn't mention the daughter by name. I assumed he was talking about Bristol, the older daughter who, after all, has a history of getting "knocked up." In fact, that is the essential context of the joke that makes is funny at all, otherwise it would make no sense.
Posted by: Quippy | June 12, 2009 12:06 PM

Sarah Palin represents the cancer of the religious right that's destroying the credibility and viability of all things Republican. She is nothing more than a Paris Hilton clone trying to use her good looks and infamous celebrity as career stepping stones. Like Paris Hilton, although Paris Hilton is obviously smarter and more articulate, Sarah Palin would be working in a Moose Burger King drive thru if she wasn't a "pretty woman".
Posted by: osage | June 12, 2009 12:13 PM
Well, ALEX RODRIGUEZ is purported to be a "ladies man" (i.e. stripper in Toronto, Madonna and Kate Hudson, to name a few), while BRISTOL PALIN obviously didn't quite "practice what she preached" (Abstinence).
Even though Bristol P. wasn't at the YANKEE game, that's where the joke was going.
If you don't like it, watch a different late night host until they say something that offends you.

.
It's NOT "funny" at all that the Swamp finds your rants over-the-top and screens them. Did you REALLY think you're alone in not having every single pearl of your "wisdom" not be pubished for the whole world to adore, or even that it's something done only to the Right-wing (you're not, and it isn't)? Your posts are being left out because they're NUTSO, JohnD, not because they're politically problematic for this blog. You're trying to post the same vile stuff you rail at when it comes from Letterman -- in your OWN WORDS "offensive and inappropriate" -- and don't see anything wrong and kind of SICK with that? And you'd be fine with the Swamp going ahead and POSTING "offensive and inappropriate" material as long as it's yours, yet at the same time howl at them for printing stories -- ANY story --you don't like, and in any WAY that doesn't suit you? Child, the problem ISN'T with the Swamp here. It's YOU.
.
Yeah, yeah. I know. Loony left. Worst the world has to offer. Blah, blah, blah. Whatever, if it makes you feel less threatened, junior. No skin off MY nose. Go nuts, as it were.

Palin wants it both ways though - she repeatedly uses her family to enhance her image and message, bringing them up in speeches, then complaining when others speak about them. Also, its obvious Letterman wasn't refferring to "Willow," and Palin is the one who keeps on dragging her into this. Poor girl. What a terrible mother.

The state of politics in America is at an all time low.
We are arguing over whether or not this is funny and/or acceptable. An old man makes a crack about a sexual act between a baseball star with a notorious reputation and a young girl. We're arguing over whether he meant the 14 year old or the 18 year old. Does that really matter to you?
Does anyone else not see how sick this is? No one cares that he trashed flight attendents in general. No one cares that he called them and the Gov. of Alaska slutty.
It's just defend the party at all costs. And it's sickening. While we're arguing this absurdity, Congress and POTUS are robbing us blind and mortgaging our grandchildren. Wake up America.

Johnny Carson had the brains and the class not to alienate a huge portion of his mainstream audience with comments like Letterman made, and he was not a smug and self-important jerk.
Letterman's comments are more worthy of a bush league, frat house outfit like MSNBC. If Conan would have done this his first week, his sponsors would have jerked his leash. Hard.
Does anyone actually watch Letterman anymore? He is old, tired and irrelevant. NBC made the right decision when they chose Leno over this leering, snickering buffoon.

Uuuh, Johnny Dimwit--I guess the FBI just made it up:
A notebook that law enforcement officers discovered in Mr. von Brunn’s 2002 red Hyundai, which he had double-parked outside the museum’s 14th Street entrance on Wednesday, appeared to offer insight into his mind-set before the shooting.
“You want my weapons — this is how you’ll get them,” Mr. von Brunn wrote in a note he had signed, according to the arrest affidavit.
“The Holocaust is a lie,” the note read. “Obama was created by Jews. Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do. Jews captured America’s money. Jews control the mass media.”

This is typical of the far right wing religious nutjobs and their attack dog/play the victim politics.
These people are nothing more than liars and hypocrites.
Posted by: DrainYou | June 12, 2009 2:32 PM
It was a huge mistake for the Palins to imply that Letterman shouldn't be allowed around young girls or that he advocates rape. If I were Letterman I wouldn't let that go unanswered. Sarah Palin is an idiot with lousy political instincts because her own comments have put her in a place where she may be expected to apologize. And because she is too obtuse to understand why her own comments are equally egregious it only diminishes her credibility as a reasonable candidate.

Letterman is only interested in ratings, and attention. I suggest we on the right calm down and ignore him...
Posted by: FLW | June 12, 2009 2:52 PM
This would not be an issue if Palin had not "pimped out" her family (including their Down Syndrome baby) the entire election campaign. If she had kept her kids out of the spotlight, her family would not be a target of tasteless jokes.
Posted by: Marty | June 12, 2009 2:58 PM
She's obviously running for president in 12. She should shut up and allow Letterman to keep telling his jokes.

"Can you imagine the Swamp/Democrat uproar if Letterman joked (?) about a ballplayer raping Barack Obama's daughter?"
If Letterman had joked about a ballplayer raping one of Sarah Palin's daughters, there would be outrage by everyone. But he didn't. The fact that any of you believe that he did is simply stunning.
I assume that all of you complaining about this thought Paris Hilton jokes were off limits when they were being made all the time when she was 18 or 19? Right? Didn't think so.

How long before the knights in shinning amour (Republican party) throw the Governess (Palin) under the bus to make all their headaches go away.
Palin better be careful.
Wouldn't it be funny if the media was not the last of her enemies? Saved ala Miss America and then fired by her handlers. The plot thickens....
Posted by: Hmmm | June 12, 2009 3:12 PM
Lets make this simple...
If Letterman had cracked this "joke" in the face of any parent of a teenager - left, right or "whatever" wing- he would stand a good chance of getting knocked on his not so funny anymore ***...
Any parent who defends this stupidity is as big of a schmuck as Letterman.

Dave actually pulled his punches in his apology to Palin. His joke mentioning the daughter was not sexual, sexist, dirty, lurid or meant to demean women; and, if anyone was slandered, it was Eliott Spitzer and A-Rod. Dave's real unspoken intent was to bring attention to Palin's hypocrisy. She preaches "family values" and abstinence and yet she can't even influence the behaviour of her own daughter. Moreover, she trots the daughter out on the campaign trail as a paragon of virtue. After using Bristol's young man like a rented mule in the campaign, the whole family attacks him when he is of no longer use to them. And, finally, as though she has somehow regained her virginity, Bristol is again on the stump preaching abstinence to help mommy score political points. What a pathetic bunch! But Dave didn't spell any of that out because he tries to avoid politics in his show. He hopes you can figure that all out on your own.

Liberals find that threatening. Why? Because Liberals are insecure and when threatened tend to lash out and attack. Liberal behavior on this issue points to their ignorant nature. What the creep Letterman did is inexcusable yet the Libs stand by their man. Odd and twisted.

Letterman cracks these jokes about Palin and her family. I never heard anyone criticize him for fathering an illegitimate son six years ago, bringing him on the show at least once for people to see, and then finally making that son legitimate early this year. How would he feel if people started saying mean things about his son? What if someone asked if his son knows how to spell illegitimate? Also, did you notice that he is giving his top ten about Palin and not Bush? Why did he shift from criticizing a sitting president to a past nominee? He should have shifted from a past president to the current sitting president.

Repuglicans always play the victim role. It's part of the conservative mentality. Anything they do or say, no matter how vicious, is only a response to being wronged - either in reality, or merely in their perception - by someone else.
A lifetime of being ridiculed by comedians won't even start to make up for the lies, distortions and innuendo about Obama and Democrats in general that Palin and Republicans spewed during the 2008 campaign.
Go get 'er, Dave! Your apology was not accepted.

Sarah Palin thinks abortion clinic bombers aren't terrorists.
Glenn Beck expects anyone of a muslim heritage to prove they are NOT a terrorist.
We've got lunatic fringe right-wing "media-outlets" like Faux News and AM hate radio blowhards like Mullah Limbaugh trying to spin the right-wing domestic terrorist holocaust museum shooter as a - left wing liberal.
Neocons say they are for individual freedoms but only for the people whose views match their own.
The Republican party in general claims to want small government, unless their party is in power (DHS anyone?!).
Republicans claim everything should be left up to the states to decide, except - emission standards, equal rights, gun laws, and cannabis legislation etc. They claim government shouldn't be able to tell you how to live your life...unless your last name is Schiavo. They call themselves moral and pro life, yet their thirst for making war and executing abortion doctors and Jewish people etc is unquenchable.
And yet they still wonder why their party (Republican) has been overwelmingly REJECTED?!?!

Liking David Letterman or any comic or entertainer for that matter is bound to one's personal taste. I've never cared for his sarcastic humor. But many people find his jokes entertaining. I think Sarah should not have reacted at all. A reaction is what Letterman wants. It continues to focus the publicity on him.
As for the general public, most of Letterman's fans will think Palin is whining and that Letterman is right-on.
The remarks will not make new fans for Letterman or Palin -- just further gel each "sides" fan base.
I consider Palin more of a celebrity than a serious candidate for future political office. Unless that changes, I will continue to ignore her and Letterman.

Whether Letterman was referring to an 18 year old or a 14 year old, it's in bad taste.
Neither of Palin's daughters are "politicians." And even if you want to make fun of a single teenage mom, it's simply not funny.
Score this one for Palin and Letterman needs to move on, lest he appears desperate to beat O'Brien by fanning the flames of this "debate."
... Note to Republicans: Now see. THIS is fair and balanced. Not that nonsense you hear from Limbaugh, et al, and see on FOX.

This is just ANOTHER example of Palin's extreme hypocrisy. One joke by David Letterman can be soooooo "detrimental", but hours and hours and hours of truly detrimental hate speech from her and her right-wing media enablers like Faux News and Druggy Rush, doesn't have any effect on people and their views? Years and years of subjugating women doesn't play into women's "self-esteem"?
Perhaps the need for Palin to buy $75,000 worth of new clothes to "present" herself a certain way in order to be "accepted" has something to do with women and girls' self-esteem? Perhaps the spackle she puts on her face every day to be "pretty" has something to do with the twisted ways women and girls feel about their looks and themselves?
My god, Palin is just so pathetic on so many levels...it's the only word that fits - pathetic.

Palin trotted out her kids during the campaign, made them an issue, continues to use them, and get offended when there is any public commentary that doesn't go her way. She does not get to use her kids only for her own political gain.
She doesn't care about what Letterman said. What she does care about is all the media attention that she's now getting after a couple weeks in the wasteland. She's a political opportunist and media whore. If she really cared about this, she would let the joke slide into oblivion. What she did, however, was to ensure that everyone now knows about this "incident".
I knew she was a shameless attention monger as soon as she trotted her kids out all throughout the campaign all over the place instead of leaving them in school most of the time like the other candidates did. Someone should have called Child Protective Services to protect those kids from their mothers political abuse of them.
Don't get me started on her promotion of her special needs child at the same time she cut funds for special needs children in Alaska.

One thing the unhinged Right-Wing Lunatic Fringe has proven over and over again, especially within the last few weeks (abortion doctor murderer, Holocaust Museum murderer) - if they and their very small band of lockstep braindead followers don't get their way, they'll start shooting people and blowing stuff up.

What's really disturbing about this is that Palin doesn't seem to mind exploiting her own children for political gain. She appeared on NBC's Today Show yesterday and once again cried about how during the 08 campaign, Obama demanded family members "being off limits" yet how hers were constantly were brought up. The thing is, she was the one always keeping it alive by bringing them on stage and keeping them in the spotlight. The McCain campaign CHOSE to hide her daughters pregnancy in the begining, knowing full well that it would soon be leaked, most likely by the left. And then they cried foul. Did they think that the press et al would simply look the other way for the rest of the season?
It appears now that there's this opportunity to turn this "old white male" thing around and to be used in their favor. When asked about appearing on the Letterman show, she responded "it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman", an obvious insinuation that the "62 year old male" can't control himself around preteens.
If that isn't exploiting, she certainly missed an excellent opportunity to STFU.

This is nothing more than another GOPer con job. Palin is using this fake controversy to soak the Wingnut rubes for more cash for her PAC. Then she'll skim the PAC money to pay for her own expenses for years to come.
When their GOPer talking points are so crazy that you don't know if it's snark or reality doesn't that speak volumes of itself? Here we have a group Teabagging Wingnuttes that are taking a comment by a comedian to the extremes while saying there is no such thing as a RIGHT-WING extremist out there. And it's to the point of extreme when they call for a man to be fired for a bad joke.
I'm sorry but these Conservatives/Republicans are such idiots. With all the important things going on in the world right now, with our country in economic turmoil and millions suffering, THIS is what they want to make an issue of? THIS is what they want to protest? THIS is what is important to them? They still don't uderstand that things like this are why no one takes them seriously anymore.

It was more a test than anything because I knew the Censor Thugs would censor it. Silva gets a kick out of demeaning the Palins, even the children, as well as all members of the deranged left. But when the tables are turned, then we don't like it.
As far as "over the top" posts, sure some of them are, but then again they are done that way to make a point: point out the stupidity of the Left as well as the hypocrisy, because when it comes to "over the top" there is nothing more in outer space than members of the deranged, loony left.

.
Yeah, Deezie. Pure brilliance. Prove how insane the left is by being more insane yourself. Make a point about how wrong they are by being more wrong yourself. Make your points about how inappropriate and offensive you think the left is by being even MORE inappropriate and offensive. You really got us there, huh? Wow. I'm really shaking in MY boots over how brainy you are.
.
John D -- FAR worse than any accusation he's ever made of the left, any day of the week.

Letterman is responding to this non-controversy perfectly.
He's remaining silent and letting Palin and her fundie nutjob supporters over play their hand.
Palin is the most tone deaf politician in America.

Sarah Palin, the Dirty Old Man, and Ugly Feminists
I’ll confess. I think Sarah Louise Heath Palin, who happens to be the first female governor of the great state of Alaska, is the foxiest politician I’ve seen in my lifetime. My wife of 41 years doesn’t even blink anymore when I mention that fact.
Would I vote for her as president of the United States because she’s attractive? Not bloody likely, even if she were a replication of Britney Spears or Carrie Prejean. If she resembled Judge Sonia Sotomayor, it would be even more bloody unlikely.
Palin’s looks are not the issue, or shouldn’t be. What is an issue in 2009–and which will be an issue in 2012– is not the reincarnation of J.D. Salinger’s dirty old man, in the person of dirty old Dave Letterman, or Palin’s looks but whether Dyke-World can overcome its revulsion over attractive women who aren’t lesbians.
It will be a challenge; most who flock to Dyke World more closely resemble Betty Friedan than Mrs. Palin. Brains and success, and Palin has both in spades, appeal to the lez set, but attractiveness seems to be a contraindicator for acceptance for most feminazis.
Make no mistake, the libs, the gays, the lesbians, and the Democrats, which is a redundancy, are terrified of Governor Sarah Palin and Letterman is nothing but a water carrier for that whole crew. Letterman’s crudities are almost irrelevant. What is worth emphasis is the atmosphere in which Dirty Dave and his writers feel free to dump on Palin.
It’s the same prevailing atmosphere which allows attacks on a beauty queen for being honest about gay marriage, which mandates the persecution of a radio shock jock for letting slip a dumb racial slur, and which hounded a sports commentator twenty or so years ago who was fired by CBS for praising Black athletes’ slave-derived athleticism.
To liberals today there are various levels of discriminatory language, acceptable, marginal, and totally objectionable, and they determine the parameters of each category. The Left, for example, has twisted words and language to such an extent that the term “reproductive rights” now has no relation to reproduction but rather to aborting life.
Letterman’s inane “jokes,” referring to the governor of Alaska as a slut and to her daughter being knocked-up way out in right field at Yankee Stadium are in a class with Wanda Sykes’ “humorous” wish that Rush Limbaugh die of kidney failure. That brand of ”humor” so tickled Obama’s funny bone that he all but peed his pants when he heard it. The rest of the lib establishment either condoned or ignored it.
Incredibly, Letterman’s entire defense of his knocked-up crack was that he was referring to Bristol Palin who, since she was 18 and, to feminist dismay, had chosen to bear her child out of wedlock instead of aborting the baby. She thereby violated the First Commandment of liberal theology, Thou shalt abort inconvenient babies. Their Second Commandment is, Thou shalt abort any baby if you don’t want it, inconvenient or no.
Never would Dirty Dave refer to 14 year old Willow Palin in such a way. Not Dave! That would be statutory rape! It was just hunky dorey, however, to make light of Bristol being raped by Alex Rodriquez. I assume, Dirty Dave considered her a fallen woman already and so, who knows, maybe it was consensual.
It was Willow Palin and not Bristol Palin who accompanied her mother and Rudy Giuliani to the Yankee game but, hey, ya seen one Palin girl, ya seen ‘em all. They all look alike, right, Mr. Letterman?
As for his “slutty flight attendant” witticism about Governor Palin, he did sort of apologize for that and will probably not joke about Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton being sluts, unless one of their daughters gets knocked-up out in left field in the Stadium.
No doubt Dirty Dave, who didn’t marry his son Harry’s mother until the boy was five,. . .

We've got blogs about REAL issues. Health Care, National Security, etc. And there are currently 138 entries (far more than any other) on this one? About a feud between a currently irrelevant politician and an old grumpy talk-show host?
Get real, please.

The previous administration mortgaged our children's future with a phony war. And the first "bail-out" last fall was the Bush administration, too. Now this administration has to clean up the mess. It will take time, but Obama's administraton is off to an extraordinarily good start.

Hey, outraged Republicans, especially John W, let's see some outrage about this attempt at humor:

Letterman should be ashamed of himself and so should Matt Lauer for playing the devil's advocate. Do not be accepting of these shameful comments about females in general. It's not funny at all! As Obama say's family is off limits. That goes for the Democratic comedians too.

One of the greatest dirty-jokes ever from the movies could have been considered "child-porn". Sort of.
From the Marx Brothers movie "Animal Crackers":
Captain Spaulding(Groucho), talking about his trip to Africa: "We took some pictures of the native girls, but they weren't developed."

We're arguing over whether he meant the 14 year old or the 18 year old. Does that really matter to you?
Posted by: Kathy | June 12, 2009 2:08 PM
As I recall, the difference between the age of consent and lower than the age of consent mattered a GREAT deal to REPUBLICANS when Mark Foley was emailing 17-year-old pages smutty emails. Seems that as long as they're legal, there's no problem AT ALL, 'cuz there were posts from the usual neocon suspects defending him against liberals complaining. Or at least there's no problem if it's a Republican who's messing around with teenagers who are pretty much age of consent or more. Or more or less. So if Republicans are willing to defend Foley and 17-year-olds, they OUGHT to be just dandy-roo with Letterman and an 18-year-old girl.

Me? I thought Foley was disgusting and I think Letterman's disgusting. And, by the way, I think Republicans are disgusting in general, not that that needs to matter to you.
