Sen. Joe Lieberman may have been channeling Clint Eastwood when he had this to say about actor Alec Baldwin's recent suggestion that he'd like to challenge the independent senator for reelection
"Make my day,'' Lieberman said Sunday of Baldwin's threat, in an appearance on CNN's State of the Union.
But Baldwin may have been channeling Hamlet when he told Playboy magazine: "I'd love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him."
To be or not to be a candidate for Senate in 2012 -- that's no question for Lieberman, the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in 2000 but an independent since the Democrats rejected his nomination for reelection the last time around.
But, it's a big question for Baldwin, best known now for his role on 30 Rock but also a film and TV star with a history of political activism -- he was outspoken in the aftermath of that disputed 2000 presidential election.
"No," he wrote a while back at the Huffington Post. "I am not moving to Connecticut to run against Joe Lieberman. As much as I think Lieberman is an enormous letdown to the party that gave him their nomination for vice president, I am sure that Democratic Party leaders in that state will take care of themselves."
For his part, Lieberman says he respects the Hollywood star.
"I must say I respect Alec Baldwin as an actor and a comedian and if he wants to run that's his right," Lieberman told CNN's John King.
"We'll hold the debate right here," King said.
Doesn't he wish?
They could beam a virtual Baldwin to the set with CNN's election hologram.

Hey, Joel you win hands down. Alex
Baldwin isn't good enough to polish
your shoes. He should stay in Jollywood with all his ilk, and all the other losers out there that think they
know better and that their better than anyone else that isn't from their little community. The sooner the public grows up and gets over this celebrity madness the better off America will be.

Joe- Don't let two bit aspirations bother you.

Alec, man of the people, in the Hamptons. Go ahead and run Alec, don't think you will pull off what Al "He ain't funny" Franken did. Minnesota already has buyer's remorse.

Alec Baldwin would clean Joe Liebermann's clock. Joe barely made it past his last election. He has ask himself if he feels lucky. "Well do ya' punk?"

.
No, the real question is: Would you feel lucky knowing your fate and fortune hung on the votes of yet one more ignorant flunky. When it comes to politics, Baldwin couldn't find his own rear-end with both hands, a map and a tour guide. He's such an ideologue you could predict every one of his votes by reference to the DNC answer book.
.
Not that I'm terribly thrilled with Joe's politics either, mind you. However, the trick to voting today is to select the least evil of whatever two or more evils get nominated. You would be opting for the worst of two evils if you voted for Baldwin.
.
But, it could be a fun race after all. We'd probably get to see Kim Basinger again in some Joe Lieberman ad - and that wouldn’t be half bad.

Leiberman;
I can't imagine what the portrait in the attic looks like.
