The Swamp

Enough, with the birthers.

Americans say they've heard more than enough about the complaint from some vocal quarters that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born American citizen, as required for the presidency by the Constitution. Both the White House and the state of Hawaii, where he was born, say he is bona fide.

"Most Americans say they have heard at least a little about allegations that President Obama was not actually born in the United States and is therefore not eligible to be president,'' the Pew Research Center reports in its weekly news survey.

"Of those who have heard at least a little about the issue, 41 percent say news organizations have given too much attention to claims that Obama was not born in the U.S.,'' Pew reports of its findings. "Twenty-eight percent say they have gotten too little attention and 24 percent say they have gotten the right amount of attention.

"A majority of Democrats (58 percent) who have heard at least a little about the claims that Obama was not born in the United States say they have gotten too much attention from news organizations,'' Pew notes.

"Republicans are more inclined to say that the allegations have received too little attention,'' Pew adds. "Nearly four-in-ten Republicans (39 percent) express this view, while 27 percent say they have received the right amount of attention and 26 percent say they have gotten too much attention.''

The poll also found low marks for news coverage of the healthcare reform debate. "More than seven-in-ten say the media has done either a poor (40 percent) or only fair (32 percent) job explaining details of the various proposals. Just 21 percent offer a positive rating of this coverage: 4 percent excellent and 17 percent good.

The News Interest Index survey of 1,013 adults, conducted July 31 - Aug. 3 by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press carries a possible margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

The Republican party has become a world-wide joke and this birth certificate nonsense of theirs takes the mass Wingnut stupid up to another level on the crazy dial.

This just shows you how diverged the political conversations have become in this country thanks to right-wing propaganda outlets like Fixed News and the Wingnut AM Hate Radio morons.

The average Republican in this country has no idea whatsoever about what is really happening in the world because they live in a propaganda bubble world created for them by their Republican overlords.

Democrats are debating how to tackle health care and whether a public option works best and how best to get costs under control..........Meanwhile, the Republican party has become fixated on the idea that Barack Obama's family faked his birth certificate 47 years ago, knowing he would run for President eventually and need a cover story?!?!

I find it amazing that the average Republican minion in 2009 can even dress themselves in the morning without first getting instructions from Druggy Rush and Seany Hannity etc.

I can't decide who is more crazy - the Wingnut Birthers or the Wingnut Deathers.

I hope these nutjobs keep speaking out because it's only their GOoPer base ([white] Southerners) who takes these birther nuts, like that Oreally Taintz whackjob, seriously. The rest of the country thinks she's fracking nuts.

This birther garbage is a Republican/Conservative/right wing/White Deep South (the GOP base) racist conspiracy theory. And America needs to be reminded of that at every opportunity availed.

I hope they keep this up all the way to the next election, or the next COUPLE elections. Throw in insistence that Obama is a Muslim terrorist, while they're at it, and by ALL means have a few more dozen Teabag parties! Maybe they can get good ol' Larry Sinclair to coordinate the effort -- it looks like he has time on his hands these days and they could probably get him cheap.

The more hysterical, ridiculous and unhinged the Republicans show themselves to be, the easier it'll be to keep power away from them for a while longer!

So -- Obama isn't really a citizen, huh? Interesting -- DO tell me more!

The question of who is a "natural-born" citizen for purposes of qualifying to be president is the issue. This term is not the same as "citizen" or "native-born citizen". In my opinion, from reading the various USSC court cases, this issue has not been resolved. Here is the question that should be addressed: should a person who is born in the U.S. to a parent who is not a U.S. citizen and never had any intent to seek citizenship be considered "natural-born?" Don't yell back at me; tell me why or why not

Obama has spent, to date, $800,000 in legal fees, to keep a $10 Birth Certificate from the public

Yes, they are a natural born citizens. The 14th Amendment makes no differentiation of levels of citizenship in saying all persons born in the United States are United Sates citizens. Now tell us why they shouldn't be considered natural born citizens. Tell us why they should have second class status.

I won't yell. I will just say this is a swamp filled with armchair Constitutional lawyers. Spend the $100 bucks and go talk to a lawyer.

I'd love to drop this, but Obama's hidden records and natural born citizenship are legitimate issues.

It's no surprise that Hillary Clinton just went to Kenya to reinforce the cover-up.

I still want answers. Obummer, put up or get out!!!! All he has to do is make the following official public statement,

"I Barack Obama authorize the State of Hawaii to release and make public all of my records on file."

That's it. Issue over. But he won't because he's a fraud!! Obama knows that millions of citizens want to see it yet he continues to hide it. What/why is he hiding? and most disturbingly, why don't BHO's supporters want to know the whole truth, especially since there's a reward of $100,000 for proof that Obama is a "natural born" citizen of the United States.

OBAMA, STOP HIDING. SHOW US THE LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND YOUR OTHER RECORDS!!!!!

HEY REPUBLICANS!

YOU GOT YOUR BUTTS HANDED TO YOU BY A BLACK MAN - GET OVER IT!

AND HE'S GOING TO KICK YOUR BUTTS AGAIN IN 2012!

Yes, if they are born to one American citizen they are natural born. The status of the other parent is irrelevant. If there could be found evidence that his mother relinqushed HER citizenship BEFORE his birth, then there's a problem.
Otherwise, it does not matter what she did after.

Doesn't anyone find it amazing that 7/10ths of the public think the media is only doing a fair/poor job in reporting heathcare reform details? Isn't that indicative of the poor reception that healthcare reform is geting? Thew people, for lack of any real knowledge or information will begin to respond to the nut jobs on each far end yelling inaccuracies and insults. C'mon Tribune do a real report on what is in this legislation and what is happening in the legislative committees or don't you understand what is happening ewither?

Like most people, I'm sick to death of this supposed controversy.

The upside is that constant media exposure shows the public how kooky and extreme the GOP has become.

According to the inconsiderate right-wing lunatic fringe loudmouths, the source of their anger can be summed up in two words: "We lost and we're mad and sad and this country's going to hell and there are all these colored folk running around telling us what to do and dammit we want things back the way they wuz!!!"

And in other news, the birther/dittohead/Dobbsian/teabagger/Beckian wing of the Republican base can't count.

Here is a real issue you can kick around. Maybe, you will even support it.

Those who don't believe aren't Birthers, they're just plain STUPID!

get a life will you, you're wasting more of my time

Keep reading those Federalist Papers Skeptic. It was all a trick to keep Hamilton from being Pres.

At the time of his birth President Obamas mother was a US citizen Does that answer your stupid question?

The birth brings up a question. Do you think Obama is man enough to resign if he is found to be born in Kenya.

I think Orly Taitz is really Sascha Baron Cohen playing a joke on the toothless rednecks who make up what's left of the Republican base.

Well of course Inky; he'll have to. he'll be deported as an illegal alien. And we already know he's a better man than you.

A bigger man than inky dinky. Joe Biden, get out your birth certifiicate. Be careful what you wish for.

So...
52% of those polled said that they think that the birth certificate issue has either been covered "enough or not enough".

66% of REPUBLICANS said that they think that the issue has either been covered "enough or not enough".

58% of Democrats that have heard even just a "little" think that it has been covered too much.

72% of those polled say the media has done either a poor or only fair job explaining details of the various proposals.

OKaaaaaay... this is really meaningless. I could have pulled these figures out of my ear. The Democrats want the birth certificate issue to stop being an issue (duh) and the Republicans don't. Also, 72% of those polled don't like the way the media is covering things. I would say that is a low figure.

The real question I would like answered is why can a Democrat or a Liberal only answer a question by saying how stupid they think the Right is. Don't they have anything else up their sleeves? I mean, is this an Obama policy or something? It doesn't make them sound that intelligent, more like a 6 year old.

If you can't discuss the issues like an adult why don't you go have a beer or something?

Your comments show several things: one, and most important, the Dems are the ones who want this issue to remain in the forefront so they can use it against the Republicans; two, the Dems who comment consistently call the opposition names and personally attack anyone who disagrees with them, etc. The independents and Repubs are willing to have a lucid discussion, but it's impossible to do so. As one writer said, Obama could have put this to rest long ago by producing a birth certificate, but he wants to keep it alive so he can demonize people who do not agree with his views. It's pretty hard to stop the fringe elements on either side - too bad, because the people who care for our country and want to see it thrive and prosper, who want tp see a return to fiscal responsibility and to the principles our country was founded upon will not be listened to while the nut jobs are out there.

Well of course Inky; he'll have to. he'll be deported as an illegal alien. And we already know he's a better man than you.

At least you are correct , he should be deported, if true.

Were G.Washington's parents US Citzens?

No.

Nevertheless he was born on US soil and could be President.

Not so McCain.

Who, by the way, has not shown his birth certificate.
