Cindy Sheehan is back.

But this time, the war protester who lost her son, Casey, at war in Iraq, is not camped outside the Texas ranch of former President George W. Bush, who ordered the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

She is staking out the media on Martha's Vineyard, where President Barack Obama, who has pledged to withdraw troops from Iraq but is boosting the U.S. military deployment at war in Afghanistan, is spending a week's vacation.

Sheehan, who liked to pitch a "peace camp'' outside the vacationing Bush's ranch near Crawford, Texas, showed up today outside the schoolhouse in Oak Bluffs, Mass., where reporters covering the vacationing Obama are working. The president is tucked away at Blue Heron Farm, a 28-acre rented estate, no brush clearing.

"The reason I am here is because ... even though the facade has changed in Washington DC, the policies are still the same," Sheehan told a handful of journalists, with a Camp Casey banner behind her. Calling on peace activists to wake up and protest Obama's escalation of the war in Afghanistan, and complaining that troops still remain in Iraq, she said: "We have to realize, it is not the president who is power, it is not the party that is in power, it is the system that stays the same, no matter who is in charge."

"We are here to make the wars unpopular again," Sheehan said.

How the mighty Sheehan has fallen. Prior to Jan. 20th, 2009 (to be exact) her every utterance was Front Page Swamp news. Even her emails made an article. See, for example, Mark Silva's June 2, 2007 article.

But now that it's Obama's war, not Bush's, the press doesn't seem interested in her.

Doesn't she realize the press only covers protestors who protest Republicans?

That's the best rcard you can trot out, Mark?
The RNC ought to be feeding you better talking points than this.

Go Girl-- Let Obama do something rather than talk about what he is going to do.. When are the sheep who supported him going to wake up and see that he is just like Bush in regard to the war. Actions - he is the one who laid out a course of action. Keep this in mind when you think health care..

i guess communist organizer doesn't think the press's current spin on sheehan constitutes media attention. The woman is protesting war - not a political party. The few Congresspeople who voted against the Iraq war (they numbered in the 20s) were the only ones who got it right in saying no to blood for bush backed big oil. oh, no, us presence in the region has nothing to do with oil ... of course not. just ask chevron about its tanker named the condolezza rice - until she was asked to assume the position ... of Secretary of State. Chevron wasted no time in getting out the paintbrushes to change the name of the tanker, while that administration sent our people to die and lose their limbs so a bunch of rich, white guy western oil executives could make millions - on the billions in profit they're already making. one thing's for sure about corporations: greed. you can never have enough money. you can never have enough money. take TAKE TAKE! you deserve it, you're so ENTITLED - because you're the white right "crusades".

But now that it's Obama's war, not Bush's, the press doesn't seem interested in her.

Would that be the war on terrorists that you , the republicans and Bush forgot about? The one where you never finished the job? Now after 8 years of neglect, you hypocrites want to use this disaster for your gain? What balls.

When will this woman realize that she was used by liberals and the media?

Now that there is a Democrat in office, Sheehan is a liability - one that they wish would simply go away.

At least Cindy isn't being a hypocrite with flogging the memory of her soldier son, which is more than I can say about the Democrats who trotted her around to suit their political needs.

Every war, even the just ones, should have protesters. War is man's most evil of creations, combining all of our other evil impulses.

Only in Brucebot's deluded mind could he justify complaining about a Mark Silva article about Cindy Sheehan about the lack of coverage about Cindy Sheehan.

Go Home Sheehan.

Pres Obama is not the man who sent your son to a war for no reason, he's trying to clean up that mess and he's a far better friend to veterans and active duty service members than Shrub Jr and Darth ever were.

Go home. Your protests are fruitless..and your willingness to align yourself with loons like Cynthia McKinney have robbed you of all credibility.

Yeah, it's not like the mainstream media has been covering the town hall protests by Republicans. Oh wait...Why can't people figure out that the reason certain stories don't get coverage because they aren't especially relevant, not because of some inherent media bias?

I also love how the you would point that out on an article about Cindy Sheehan protesting a Democrat. My goodness, you're stupid.

Good article, Mark. Thanks for your coverage.

Ho-humm. I wonder who financed her trip?

Go Girl-- Let Obama do something rather than talk about what he is going to do.. When are the sheep who supported him going to wake up and see that he is just like Bush in regard to the war. Actions - he is the one who laid out a course of action..

You know, this kind of stuff (see WimpyJimmy above) is exactly why the Repug party can't win elections anymore.

They don't stand for anything but fear mongering. Remember, the Wingnuts who are now embracing Cindy Sheehan are the very same Wingnuts who smeared her mercilessly when she was protesting against Bush.

I have to say Sheehan is on the right track.
We are sleepwalking our way deeper and deeper into two awful messes.
The corruption of both the Iraq and Afg. regimes is so complete and pervasive we will never attain our goals.s
We have to get out of Iraq, in the first instance. We are still being played for huge fools by the Maliki junta. All the surge did was hold the lid on the pressure cooker. As soon as we try to let go, it will explodes, just like the Balkans after Tito's death. And their security apparatus is fraught with agents and infiltrators from the enemies of America.

Afg. is worse. Americans still have the Bush morphine drip in their arms, which BHO seems to be continuing. The paltry efforts thus far will accomplish NOTHING. Karasi's government is worse than the Iraqi junta regarding corruption. Frankly Americans don't have the will or the guts to do what it takes to 'win' in Afg. That would involve a million troops on the ground leveling most of the country. It would require a draft army. And, would even that be winning?
No one should be kidding themselves. Iraq and Afg. do not even qualify as proto-democracies.

BHO better wake up quick and figure something out.

It's been said -
The definition of 'war crime' is 'modern war'. We keep forgetting this.

its not a Bush's war ... that is obama's war..

The right in this country hates anyone who tries to remind them that a real war isn't some glorious movie where the hero triumphs at the end and wal;ks away without consequence. They hate anyone who reminds them about the real people who die. They hate anyone who reminds them of the traumatized survivors. They hate anyone who reminds them about the greiving families. They just want to hear God Bless America while the flag waves. They don't want to see the dead bodies, the crying mothers, the struggling amputees, the broken victims of PTSD, the shattered cities and the deserted towns.

Keep up the good work Cindy. Keep reminding us of the terrible costs of war. Republican President or Democratic President we need voices saying that war isn't glorious, that war isn't a movie, that war is , in true fact, hell.

Good work Mrs. Sheehan. I am glad to see she was not just the anti-war opportunist I thought she was. I was wrong. I am not surprised however that the major news outlets are not paying a bit of attention to her. Her cause does not fit the media's love affair with everything our new President does. The people who say it is not getting covered because it is not an important story are just plain wrong. August 09 is the deadliest month ever in Afganistan and Iraq's violence is increasing daily. Whether it is war, healthcare, stimulus, or anything, if it reflects badly on the man the media spent 18 months creating you are not going to get the whole story. Everyone, Left,Right, or Middle should call out their hypocricy and demand better watchdogs of the powerful. We all will suffer if the powerful are not held to task for what they do in our names.

Ms Sheehan is definitely entitled to her opinion and I respect her for it, but I disagree with her. I, like millions of Americans would like nothing better than to remove our personnel, in uniform, from that battered and beleaguered nation. Iraq has suffered immense destruction because of the Bush&Cheney fringe. A fact, that will never be forgotten.
I should be an orderly and methodical withdrawal from Iraq. Give the nation back to her citizens. What is left of it, after we so kindly "liberated" it from Hussian. Give her a helping hand, as best we can, after the Bush&Cheney fringe siphoned off our Treasury, with their buddies on Bond Street and their bandits in the Boardrooms. Oh, what a tag team did we employ !! Thanks, Republican/Libertarian Party !! We really needed them, that Dynamic Duo, that you so intelligently, foisted on our nation and Iraq !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.

Gad sakes Don BHO is the one who made all these comments not Bush. Cindy is not pro war like you -- you say support our troops and bring them home alive and whole now -- and then you attack Cindy who wants the same thing - what is wrong with you -
again a Bush hater to the point yyou have lost it..Sad..

Prior to exactly Jan. 20, 2009? NOT exactly. The last story I see ON Cindy Sheehan in the Swamp was in late July, 2007. From that I'd conclude that the stories stopped when she stopped being of interest (and roughly when she "quit [the] anti-war effort, faulting left and right" [May 29, 2007]) , a good year-and-a-half before Republicans were out of office, NOT as soon as Obama took over.

And the Swamp MENTIONED Sheehan, as setting up a peace protest, LAST FRIDAY (see "Obama's Vacation: Hurricane Bill Ahoy"). So, albeit on a technicality, this isn't even the first time she's gotten media mention here as protesting Obama rather than Bush.

And how many stories about Republicans protesting Obama have YOU missed? Seems there've been more than one or two (in fact, pretty much a steady STREAM of stories beginning with Mitt Romney's abortion protest march on January 22, 2009), covering stuff like Teabags, Town Hall meetings and such. Those don't count as protests? What do YOU call them?

INNNNNteresting how "facts" seem to morph and change when they're being put forth by righties, n'est-ce pas?

bill r. wrote: "Would that be the war on terrorists that you , the republicans and Bush forgot about?"

Oh puh-leeze!!! Billy boy, WE real Americans haven't forgotten that we had a war thrust upon us that we didn't choose. The Islamofascists who butchered some 3,000 of your fellow citizens declared war on us, and Bush responding by taking the war to their doorstep. Since 2001 the fighting, dying and bombing has been happening on the other side of the world instead of on the streets of America.

Now Obama and his cronies tell us that there is no "war on terrorism," just "overseas contingency operations" and "manmade disasters." Do they really think Americans are that gullible?!?

This isn't a question of forgetting about the war on terrorism -- it's about lefties like yourselves burying your utopian heads in the sand and pretending the Khalid Sheikh Mohammeds of the world aren't really trying to kill you and your family in gruesome, violent ways. They hate you with a visceral, irrational, implacable hatred that your Messiah cannot change. All he can do is make us more vulnerable with his foreign policy ineptitude. Wake up, idiot, and kindly dispense with your crass intellectual dishonesty. It's unbecoming.

I really don't mean to be nasty mean is now in charge of the war. I don't care who or how it got start, He's the man and he spent 18 months running off at the mouth about how he could do a better job. Well it is put up or shut up time and from everything he is doing it seems like he is a total incompatant. The wars in both Iraq and Afgan have gotten worse since he has taken over, the Tax and Credit (i believe that is the name) bill that was pass in the House is a terrible bill which will cost Americans a lot of money on the energy bills and cost more jobs. The Healthcare bill, the heaven sakes folks no one even knows what the heck is in the thing and liberals and democrats want to pass it. Do you people know that medicare when it was passed in 1965 was projected to cost only $8 billion by 1990. It cost $66 billion. President Obama says his Healthcare plan will cost $1.25 trillion, if he is off only half, just half folks the cost for one year will be almost $5 trillion dollars which will make this country bankrupt. As for the problems we are having in this country now with the foreclosures, the people who caused this was not the morgage companies alone. In 1998 the Clinton Administration passed a bill to lower the restrictions on getting a house morgage. They wanted to be the first Admin in office to have 70% home ownership. Well we did not quite get there when he left office and when Bush got in office more laws were pushed, mainly by a man by the name of Barney Frank (D) which kept lowering and lowering the standards to get a home loan. He is the same man who said right before Freddy Mac and Fanny May decided to go belly up, that everything was fine and dandy with both Freddy Mac and Fanny May. He also was the man who put pressure on the mortgage companies to make more loans by threatening them with more government regulation. Now morgage companies do not not any extra incentives to try and screw someone out of money, but when our own government is tell them we want more loans given because we want to reach a certain goal of home ownership, who the hell do you think is at fault. The worst think about this is most people have no idea how this economy hit the skids, everyone is blaming the Bush Admin and believe folks the Democrats hands are all and I mean all over this. You democratic voters who believe that the government can cover everyone and lower the cost truly and I do mean this in the nicest way but truly are irgnorant of the incompatent and abuses of government. How anyone in this country can allow 1/6 of the economy to go in to their hands when they just cause the greatest recession in this country since 1929 and got off without any blame just amazes me. It also tells me how poor our media is at reporting stories. I hate to say this, but I always thought that President Jefferson was right and that all people should vote, but as I get old and I see how we keep putting into office people like Barney Frank, Dodd and this whole Obama Administration, who know nothing and I truly mean knowing about how the American economy works I believe I am becoming more of a Hamiltonean. If you are not educated enough to understand the economic system or how are government works, I you not vote. If Obama and the Dems get their wish, within 10 years this country will truly be on the brink of an economic disaster. On last thing and I will get off my soap box. This government was created with Individual liberties, Small Federal Government and State Rights. It was not meant to be a cradle to grave Socialistic European Government which the Democrats want to turn this country into

bill r.,

Don't waste your time arguing with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

BTW no name, bill r. is a Vietnam Vet. I hope you don't have the misfortune of ever crossing his path. And the only gullible idiot on this post is you if you believe the Iraq war has anything to do with September 11th.

I do not support Cindy, but I respect her views. Wingnut.. gee talk about simple minded name calling --

"BTW no name, bill r. is a Vietnam Vet."

And the relevance of this is...? I'm an eight-year Army vet myself, but the difference is that I don't hide behind my veteran status as an excuse not to think.

Tidbits: Cindy, Howie, Teddy, and Barry

Screamin’ Howie Dean Finally Makes Some Sense: With nothing to lose, DNC Chairman Dr. Howard Dean went down a road Democratic officeholders fear to tread. Marginalized in his position by the Obama administration, he dared expose one of the principal flaws in Obamacare: the absence of any move toward tort reform. He further dared to define the reason–fear of the Trial Lawyers Association, which feeds more money into Democratic Party coffers than any other single group: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/53126.

One should not bite the hand that fees one so, should Obamacare become law, even the most skilled and dilligent doctors will still order test after test, prescribe med after med, lest a rapacious lawyer, like former Senator John Edwards, descend on them.

Silly Cindy Sheehan Re-directs Fire: Poor Cindy. She gained widespread notoriety by sensationalizing the death of her son, Casey, in Iraq, with Camp Casey squatting outside George W. Bush’s Crawford, Texas compound. Now she has a new enemy, Barack Obama. Complaining that the new president isn’t much different from the old with his Iraq and Afghanistan policies, Sheehan has laid siege to Martha’s Vineyard where the Obama family is vacationing: http://bit.ly/ONmQy.

She’s discovered that the more things change, the more they remain the same but that life as a tool of the left in her capacity of anti-war activist just ain’t the same since the media is much more forgiving when it comes to a president they idolize as opposed to one they loathed.

Dying Teddy Kennedy Got Religion: The “Liberal Lion” sent a secret note to Pope Benedict XVI last month via delivery-boy extraordinaire, Barack Obama. . .

(Read the rest at http://genelalorcom)

So you willfully stand by your post where you dismiss a fellow Vet as not being a "real" American, tell him to pull his head out of the sand and then call him an idiot. Thanks for your service, but you should direct all that hatred to those Islamofascists hiding under your bed.

I'll let bill r. speak for himself, as I've seen him do brilliantly and skillfully here in The Swamp for 3 1/2 years.

But in the meantime, please help me connect the dots between 9-11 and the Iraq War because every reason the Bush Admin. gave has been completely debunked.

Other than Cindy, where are all the protestors over the mounting casulaities?

Reddog:
Oh Please. "Obama is cleaning up the mess that was left" Give me a break.
BO ran on "getting the troops back home"
Well, they haven't come home they're just going to Afghanistan instead. You people will make excuses for BO no matter what. The man is a disaster, he doesnt have a clue.
Without a tele-prompter he speaks no better than GWB.

War is, indeed evil. But sometimes it must be fought. The people we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will stop at nothing. They have made no secret of that. They will sacrifice themselves, their children, anything and anyone to achieve their eventual aim, which is world-wide Sharia law. They must be stopped and no matter how many choruses of kumbaya one sings it will do no good. They must be stopped and there is only one way - war.

1) FYI - A few months after the allied invasion in 2003 American troops found 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium north of Baghdad near a site called Al-Tuwaitha. (You might google that because there is some interesting news there)

550 metric tons is more than one million one hundred thousand pounds.

For obvious reasons the discovery was kept secret. In May of 2008 the entire cache of Uranium was transported to Canada where it arrived on July 5, 2008. It is now being used in Canada's nuclear energy program.

Source - MSNBC July 5, 2008

Q: Given the above, would it not be possible, even probable, that other such discoveries were made but NOT MADE PUBLIC for reasons of security?

2) Between 1980 when he came to power and 2003 when Allied troops arrived and put him out of power, The Saddam Hussein regime was responsible for the deaths of AT LEAST 300,000 PEOPLE, by the most conservative human rights organizations estimates. Estimates range as high as 700,000. Included are hundreds of thousands of Kurds who were victims of ethnic cleansing, more than a few Kurdish villages that were completely wiped out by poison gas, and, as of July 14, 2005, at least 20,000 people found in 271 mass graves as of July 14, 2005.

Source - Molly Ivins, Chicago Tribune, July 14, 2005.

Molly Ivins was many things. A George W. Bush supporter was NOT one of them.
