Man, has this been a slow day.
The president spent the better part of four hours and 40 minutes on the golf course over at the Army-Navy course in Virginia.
Republican Bob Dole said in an appearance on FOX News Channel's Your World with Neil Cavuto that the way for President Barack Obama to pass a health-care bill is to make it his very own.
"He's the Top Dog,'' Dole told Cavuto, "and this is the most important domestic legislation Obama will deal with in the first four years....
"He ought to be proud of it and it ought to be the Obama Bill,'' said Dole, the retired Republican senator from Kansas and 1996 GOP presidential nominee. ""When I tell my Aunt Minnie that this is President Obama's bill, that's going to make a difference. I think people will pay more attention to it...I think it's a win-win for him."
Speaking of the top dog: Bo, the Portuguese water dog, apparently came back from vacation on Martha's Vineyard with the first family sporting an "I Love Obama'' leash -- which only goes to prove the old adage: Even in the dog days of summer, when your public approval has dipped to 50 percent in the Gallup Poll (inching up to 51 today), if you want a friend in Washington, don't ask Bob Dole how to pass a health bill, but do get a dog.
With thanks to the Top of the Ticket and Reuters for the Bo leash shots -- 'twas the leash they could do.
Good evening from the Swamp. See you in September.

Bob Dole says Bob Dole is an idiot and no one knows idiots better than Bob Dole. Bob Dole approves this message and so do I, Bob Dole.

Even Bob Dole knows this is the big issue for the American people, yet BHO is swinging weak on it.
BHO did a pi$$ poor job of promoting the need for healthcare reform in the month of August. He didn't even seem to really care about it. He was 'triangulating' his @$$ off.
He needs to grow a pair, and quick, or they will be handed to him in a way he won't like-ee.
I've said it many times here, if he and Dems fail on this one, they are toast. Steele will be right, it will be BHO's Waterloo.
He should have come out swinging, explaining in explicit terms, with graphic examples of the small disasters facing many American families, just why a robust reform package with public option or single payer was required.
He should have sharply reprimanded the town hall mobs that were shouting down the needed discussions regarding reform. (Yay Barney!)
Finally, it's incredible to me that BHO and the Dem. leadership didn't anticipate the propaganda wave that greeted them on this issue. They seem flat footed, dumbfounded, surprised, nonplussed, and all together unprepared.
If they screw this up they deserve to lose in '10 and '12.
Wake up you half-steppers! You are losing right this very minute.

C Mo,
The Dems don't seem to understand that the Repugs and their corporate media cronies are going to bash them no matter what they do.
Dems fail to get a healthcare bill passed = Repugs bash Dems as weak.
Dems pass a watered down healthcare bill = Repugs complain about what a costly ineffective piece of crap healthcare bill the Dems rammed through.
Dems pass a strong healthcare bill w/public option = Repugs cry foul and claim that Dems rammed a bill through that no one wants....which is a lie, and once the teabaggers quit getting paid to protest against it it becomes clear that the majority of Americans approve of it.
FOR GODS SAKE DEMS, PASS A GOOD HEALTHCARE BILL W/PUBLIC OPTION AND BE DONE WITH IT!

Amen! Healthcare for all. It's the moral thing to do!

JE,
As I understand it, 6 senators are negotiating the Senate bill; 3 Blue Dogs and 3 Republicans.
Cons. always like to say 'America is not a democracy, it's a republic.'
How right they are, hey?

Sheesh, Bob Dole says something encouraging to Obimbo and the Subhuman Loons on the Left still slam him.
Anyway, Mark, Gallup may have Obama at 51, but Rasmussen has him at 46 and Zogby even lower than that. But then you rarely do report the full story.
Stil waiting on something on:
Charlie Rangel and his scandals.
Leon Panetta threatening to quit over the political investigation of CIA officials.
Harry Reid and his attack on the Las Vegas newspaper.
The falling fortunes of Democrats in the polls.
Mark, since you love the Huffington Post, where is the item about the Loony Left blogger that said Mary Jo Copechne would think her death was worth it. Anything for Teddy!
Actually, I'm surprised there isn't a Sarah Swamp item in a few days!

" former Republican": Really? Your authoritative source is Jon Stewart, a comedian? Lord help us.
Rick

I didn't find Jon Stewart the authoritative voice....I found Glenn's own words authoritative. Beck call's healthcare a nightmare.......what does Jon Stewart have to do with that?

bill r.
I don't think Rick C. gets what Stewart and Colbert are actually doing.

Precious.

CM,JE,
The 'table of six' in the Senate that are deciding what healthcare reform will be, represent 1/50 of the American population.
That's 'democracy' in America.

Since when is health care the moral thing to do? Is taking our money to pay for it moral?
