Health-care protests 'appropriate:' 61 pct. : The Swamp

The Swamp

Sen. Claire McCaskill's hearing in Missouri, above, is an example of the meetings that have gotten rough. See another angle below, which explains the tussle as an episode with implications that transcend the health-care debate.

by Mark Silva and updated at 7:20 and 9:10 pm

On those contentious "town hall'' meetings on health-care reform that members of Congress are encountering this summer:

A solid majority of Americans who have heard of them - and the sessions are drawing widespread attention - say the way that people have been protesting is appropriate: 61 percent say so.

This is among the findings of a Pew Research Center poll about news-interest released this evening. Another Gallup Poll tonight also finds widespread attention to reports of the meetings, with one in three saying the protesters have influenced them toward their views.

Pew's latest News Interest Index survey was conducted between Aug. 7 and 10, after some of the most volatile encounters that members of Congress faced at town hall sessions but before the town hall that President Barack Obama held in Portsmouth, N.H., this week Some of the congressional sessions were disrupted by vocal protesters - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called them "simply un-American'' - as opposed to Obama's, which was relatively calm, much to the pleasure of the White House, which considers some of the protests "side-shows.".

Nearly eight in 10 of those surveyed said they had heard a lot or a little about the sometimes volatile community meetings.

"Among those who had heard at least a little about the meetings,'' the Pew Center's Andrew Kohut reports tonight, "61 percent say they think the way people have been protesting is appropriate.'' And just 34 percent said they view the protests as inappropriate.

"Not surprisingly, there is a large partisan divide,'' notes Kohut, president of the Washington-based independent research center. While eight in 10 Republicans see the protests as appropriate, just 40 percent of the Democrats surveyed see them that way. Nearly two-thirds of all independents also agree.

The Gallup Poll reports tonight that 69 percent of those surveyed say they have closely followed the meetings, and 34 percent say the protests "make them more sympathetic to the protestors' viewpoints,'' while 21 percentsay the protests make them less sympathetic. Almost half of those paying attention say the protests "haven't affected their views either way or have no opinion.''

(As Laura Dean notes at the Huffington Post about the incident shown below, "She and a few other women had brought posters to the town hall, but they rolled them up after being booed and berated by the crowd. When the woman unrolled one to show to a journalist, an angry man in the crowd rushed over and tore it up. A poster of what, you ask? Rosa Parks. When the woman moved to take her poster back, the police stepped in and escorted both parties from the building. But only the woman made national news:'').

The findings on partisanship tend to parallel what the Gallup Poll reported earlier today about a partisan divide among those who approve or disapprove of the way that Obama is handling the health-care issue.

Somewhat more disapprove than those who approve, Gallup found, but among Republicans surveyed just one in 10 say they approve.

For more on the findings of the weekly News Interest Index survey, an ongoing project of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and Pew's Project for Excellence in Journalism, see the full report on the health-care protests with the link here.

The answer to national health insurance might be easier than it seems, please read Dr. Sparer's thoughts in the New England Journal of Medicine:

I see no reason why Democrats and Republicans couldn't unite around this framework!

They are entitled to their opinions, if only thwey had some cleu what they were talking about. These people really need to stop listening the the media outlets that contoinue to feed them lies because they are just that gillible and stupid. GOP-good, Dem's-Bad. the world is not that simple or black and white except for these people.

Barry's Town Hall's are calm because they are staged with little Democrap girls making scripted comments. He doesn't have the guts to go to a real town hall and be asked the hard questions. Not to worry Barry, your Socialist bills are going down because independents, older Americans, republicans and Blue dogs have sen through your il-advised, Socialist Government attempt to take over and ration healthcare.

It doesn't take a Gallup poll to figure out who the screamers are.
I can't get over how selfish the objectors are - their attitudes are "I've got mine so you get yours". They don't understand what it is like for the uninsured - nor why people are not insured. More reasons for the uninsured than just pre-existing conditions. There is a gap in obtaining insurance between ages 62 and 65 where many working people do not have insurance. Why? Because the insurance companies refuse to insure anyone in this age group. If they are already on an employers insurance program they can keep their insurance but if they start a new job they are unlikely to obtain insurance. I went 3 years without insurance. Scary.

So the birthers are running around with their evil rants about death panels, euthinasia, & how this country is beciming Russia.
Put your money where your mouh is and demand a repeal of the other forms of government provided healthcare, that being medicare, medicade & what veterans get. Who is going to post they will be the first to offer this proposal?

Thought so. All shout, no substance, no action.

Isn't it funny how when Democrats were protesting the Iraq war The GOP said the same thing as Pelosi. Now the GOP and the Democrats feel the oppisite. I do belive a debate is a good thing but disrupting is stupid. I personally don't want it in fact I think we should end all socialized health care and end Medicare and Medicade all together. Plus if we allow the public option all the corperations are just going to dump health care and stick us all in the system.

Last I heard, this is a free country. Speak up America! Silence is the enemy!

I find it amusing that all the old white people who use socialized medicine are so opposed to others receiving it. Then you get all these Pro Life Christians who are opposed to it. Haven't they read the Bible. Jesus healed the sick poor for free. I guess it's OK for them to have health care just not the meek. After all they will inherit the Earth someday so why should we give them anything.

What are the Corrupt Media and Lefty Loons going to do? Obimbo's approval is under 50. Peloony and Harry "Illegal Land Deals" Reid have an approval in the mid teens, both far below anything Bush/Cheney encountered. The Dems health care takeover plan is not liked and most folks are against. The American people suport the "protestors" at the town hall meetings (those that don't support them are not Americans, they are Chavez ideologues). The whole change thing is collapsing. Obimbo so far is a colossal failure.
Watch for the Corrupt State-run media to get even nastier and for the Lefty Loons to have catatonic fits, which is par for the course anyway.

The Democratic Congress better nix Healthcare if they have any brains, for sure the public as a whole doesn't want it.

BO has stated that any individual that wants to be able to keep his/her current insurance, will be able to. He has also stated that it is the current system that is bankrupting our country.

So if the current system is bankrupting the country, why is he letting individuals keep their current insurance policies?

Top Nine BIG Lies about Health Care Reform from the Big Health Insurance Lobby and their Repuglican puppets - and One Truth

The Lies:

1) The United States has the BEST healthcare system in the world!

No, it doesn’t. In fact, for the amount of money we spend, we have one of the WORST.

We rank 37th by the World Health Organization in terms of Health system performance. Countries that out perform us include every single Western European nation (France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy etc...), Middle Eastern countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Israel), Latin American countries (our ‘poor’ neighbors to the South, Columbia, Chile, and Costa Rica) and even a few African countries. We just barely beat Slovenia and Cuba.

2) The current Healthcare bill will mandate euthanasia.

No, it doesn’t and it won’t. There is nothing in any health care reform bill before Congress that would require people to "decide how they wish to die." Yet Conservative talking points from activists and legislators, including Sarah Palin, have lied and suggested otherwise.

Section 1233 of the House bill would allow Medicare for the first time to cover patient-doctor consultations about end-of-life planning, including discussions about drawing up a living will or planning hospice treatment. Something anyone who is in their later years would naturally be interested in. Patients would, of course, seek out such advice on their own -- they would not be required to. The provision would limit Medicare coverage to one consultation every five years.

3) With healthcare reform, Americans will lose their private insurance.

No, they won’t. The bill does not force private insurers out of business or force people onto the public plan.

The CBO, in fact, estimates the House bill would result in a net increase of 3 million Americans with employer-provided care.

In truth, it would be a GOOD thing if private insurers did go out of business, because their private profit is predicated on a diseased and sickened America trapped into going to their outrageously expensive ‘resources’ for care (the ultimate captive market), but, unfortunately, that is not what is in the bill. Not even close.

4) The Health Care Legislation Mandates Taxpayer Dollars Pay for Abortions

No, it doesn’t. In fact, the House Energy and Commerce Committee adopted an amendment, proposed by Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.), that would prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.

"Private health care providers are free to cover abortion, but not with federal funds," -- U.S. News and World Report.

5) Americans Don't Want a Government-Run Health Care Plan

Yes, they do. Republicans have consistently berated the proposal for a government-sponsored health insurance plan, or "public option," as unpopular.

But, in fact, a CBS/ New York Times poll from late July shows that, even though doubts have grown in recent months about Mr. Obama's health care proposals, 66 percent of Americans still want the government to provide a health insurance plan like Medicare to compete with private health insurers.

6) Healthcare will be rationed with a health care reform.

Healthcare will not be rationed. One of the misleading buzzwords in the health care debate is "rationing" -- the idea that patients will have limited treatment options if the government becomes more involved in health care delivery.

In fact, while a public plan would not be able to cover all procedures, private insurance plans do not either. The difference is, actual health needs will determine the priority on who gets care, not someone’s ability to pay. If you have the money, of course, you can always pay extra and get your nose job or breast implant done privately, pronto, rather than waiting behind the long line of critical care and cancer patients (for example) who will have priority in a public system.

7) Health care reform is not urgent. We should take more time to study matters.

Urgency is in the eye of the beholder. Close to 50 million Americans currently have NO health insurance, which means something as simple as an auto accident could bankrupt them. During the span of Congress' three-week vacation this August, 43,250 people will lose their health insurance coverage, 53,507 people will file for bankruptcy because they can't pay their medical bills, and 1,265 people will die because they lack coverage.

8) The Blue Dogs are honestly interested in cutting government costs in Health Care Reform

No, they aren’t. Our so called ‘Blue dogs’, those self described fiscally conservative Democrats are in the back pockets of the drug and health insurance companies. Follow the money. When Blue Dog Democrats negotiated a compromise with Democratic leadership over certain elements of health care reform, they required the government-sponsored health insurance option that would be created to negotiate its own payment rates, rather than using Medicare payment rates, which will dramatically increase the costs to the American taxpayer. They also refused to allow cheaper drugs from Canada to compete with US firms.

According to a CBO preliminary analysis, the cost of those two changes would almost completely offset the $100 billion achieved in savings elsewhere. It’s not about being fiscally conservative, it’s about helping the insurance companies and drug companies maintain their profit thresholds—at the expense of America’s health.

9) Health care reform will cost us nearly One Trillion dollars!

No, it won’t. First of all, that's not a trillion every year, as most people assume -- it's a trillion over 10 years, which is the way that people in Washington talk about federal budgets. On an annual basis, that translates to about $140 billion, when things are up and running.
Even that, however, grossly overstates the net cost to the government of providing universal coverage. Other parts of the reform plan would result in offsetting savings for Medicare: reductions in unnecessary subsidies to private insurers, in annual increases in payments rates for doctors and in payments to hospitals for providing free care to the uninsured. The net increase in government spending for health care would likely be about $100 billion a year, a one-time increase equal to less than 1 percent of a national income that grows at an average rate of 2.5 percent every year.

* And now, a simple TRUTH: Selling American’s health for profit is a killer system

It kills the average American, while reaping huge profits for the privileged few. Why do we pay the MOST of any country on Healthcare cost and reap such few benefits, barely able to keep ahead of Cuba which pays less than 1/100th of what we pay per capita? Because Shareholder and CEO profits trump access to quality health care. The U.S. averages twice as much spending on health care with worse outcomes than any other industrialized nation on Earth. Where does the money go? Into the drug companies and health insurance industry pockets, that’s where. Commercial health insurance is responsible for 20 to 30% of health care dollars siphoned to excessive administrative costs, lobbying, marketing, CEO salaries and profit-taking. $1.4 billion stock options to former UnitedHealth CEO William McGuire, for example; another $30 billion went to after-tax health insurance profits, plus $32 billion insurance underwriting and marketing costs.

All that money could have cured thousands if not millions of Americans. Instead, it went to health care and drug company CEOs who have spent lavishly on Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to ensure that meaningful healthcare reform does not happen in this country. That money is spent in hopes that you will continue to believe the 9 big lies that are currently be propounded by their lobbyists and fellow travelers and in hopes that you ignore this single truth: They don’t care about your health, they care about their wealth.

President Obama's already-solid approval ratings have started to climb again. The increase in the President's poll numbers can be traced back to when Corporate Sponsored Wingnut Teabaggers started terrorizing healthcare town-hall meetings; Americans, apparently, don't like people who quash civilized discussion by rudely screaming ad nauseam.

The loud Insurance Industry Astroturfed protests by the right-wing goon squads at Congressional town hall meetings are made for the media. It doesn't matter if the protests are astroturfed, or not; no "serious journalist" can resist showing, or writing about, chaotic right-wing protests. Thus the actions of a small, frustrated, and angry crowd dominate the debate the corporate media says this country is having.

How many people were asked for this 'survey'?
If one thing is true, whether it is manipulating the demographics, or the location of those surveyed, the opinion of the person(s) conducting the 'survey', can manipulate it to get the pre-determined results that they want.
I've seen as many, if not more, 'surveys' claiming that the vast majority ARE in favor of President Obama's National Healthcare Program, than those who claim that they got the opposite results. In the end, though they make great news stories, surveys are absolutely worthless.

The right wing media (Faux News, Rush etc) and right wing lunatic fringe astroturf groups are spreading the health insurance industry's script, reporting things as "news" when they are scare tactics and lies. Pretty much everyone is aware of it now. The teabaggers phony fake outrage gig has been exposed pretty well now, they're not convincing anyone of anything other than the fact that they're a bunch of toothless morons.

I mean, how can a rational adult believe that congress would write a bill that would demand a parent kill their son/daughter who is sick with a serious illness, or one that would kill old people? Ha Ha Ha!

I mean, can they really believe this? I don't think so, this is irrational fear taking over any rational thought.

What's left of the Republican base are people who would would follow Rush or Beck off a cliff if it was demanded of them by their Repub overlords. They're not exactly free thinkers, they're people (dittoheads) who blindly follow their right wing authoritarian leaders because their personality demands it.

Thankfully they are a minority, even if they are loud, obnoxious and profoundly stupid.

Where were these people when Bush was getting us into a multi-trillion dollar war that compromised our country's principles, cost thousands of innocent lives based lies? They were sporting yellow ribbons on their SUV's and proclaiming, you go George, and "God Bless America".
Where were these people when Dubya&Co. were usurping their civil liberties and engaging in illegal wiretaps? They were saying, "You go George, only terrorists and their sympathizers need be concerned".
Yeah, there were dissenters, but there weren't many Republicans amongst them. And the others?, Dubya's "town halls" were staged (emphasis on staged) at Army bases and American Legion Centers. People were screened, there was no "come one, come all" invitations. Hell, you got thrown out if they didn't like what was on your t-shirt (or your license plates)
Now that the adults are in charge and invite people to contribute, the goon squads show up armed with their latest talking points from hate radio and memo's from those fronting for the Health Insurance Industry. And it's usually the loudest and the most disruptive that fail to make any attempt to educate themselves on the issues. This is what passes as democracy these days? If this is the kind of public "input" that the majority wants (if indeed it's genuine and not paid for), then why isn't it allowed in the chambers of Congress? How long do you think you'd last in the gallery if you disrupted those proceedings? The Sargent-at-Arms would throw you out on your ear before the first outburst cleared your pie-hole.
I've protested at College Campuses against the Vietnam War (but we didn't disrupt classes), I've been to draft-card burning protest (although, I didn't burn my own), I supported those people who were wrongly evicted from a public place for a same-sex kiss. I'm pretty tolerant of peoples right to express themselves or their opinions, but not at the expense of everyone else who also deserve a voice and a chance to participate constructively. If the dissenters want to chant and carry signs, fine, do it outside the venue (and leave your freaking side-arms home). If you want to participate inside, then wait your turn to ask questions, preferably in a non-confrontational tone. Isn't that what civilized people do? Isn't that what democracy is supposed to be about? It's not like these people who disagree are disenfranchised. They can vote, they can speak with their representatives at their office (I have, not always to my satisfaction, but the opportunity is there). They can vote, they can write letters, they can email, they call their elected officials and they will get a response.
But that's too much trouble, that's too much work, much more fun to screw up the opportunity for everyone else to participate civilly.
Maybe I'm out of touch in my old age, but the sight and ignorant, angry, screaming, foaming-at-the-mouth, gun-toting crazies disrupting civil, democratic proceedings, doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that our country is capable of meeting it's many difficult challenges.

michaelb, you're not really calling anyone else stupid, are you? Maybe you should learn to spell before casting down others.

In terms of Jesus healing the sick, that is true...However, all of Jerusalem did not have to pay for each healing.

I would not mind helping others for healthcare if I wasn't paying for other's welfare as well. It is hard enough for a single income family to support their own family, let alone the guy down the road.

Inky--The public doesn't want healthcare? Just tell them that your taking away their Medicare and see the s#!%storm that erupts.

John D., exibit A why this country is in so much trouble.
Corrupt Media, blah, blah, blah, Lefty Loons, blah, blah, blah. Obimbo, Chevez, blah, blah, blah--what drivel!
At least the Dems are tackling the tough problems which Republican administrations always ignore. Their idea of a national priority is a "flag-burning" amendment.

Here's some video of some of that "civil discourse" that Palin and the rest of the Repug mouthbreathers "aren't" encouraging.

Must-see video from Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor's recent speech at the Tampa, Florida town hall co-hosted by the SEIU and State Rep. Betty Reed:

If you know anybody who's got doubts about the true nature of the anti-health care wingnut goons trying to disrupt health care town halls, have them watch this video. Let them see for themselves the truly infantile behavior of these angry wingnuts. They aren't interested in dialogue, debate, or discussion. All they want to do is hear their own voices scream, shouting down anybody with whom they happen to disagree.

The full speech is about fifteen minutes long. You can watch it here. The wingnut goons were trying to shout Castor down for almost the entire speech, and for at least five minutes of it, they made her nearly impossible to hear.

Earth to Den C, the Obama forum was open to all and the questions weren't scripted--even Republicans were allowed to ask questions.

That's a far cry from those held by "W," where only diehard supporters were allowed to ask pre-screened softball questions and you could be arrested for wearing a Democratic t-shirt or pin (it happened).

What are the Corrupt Media and Lefty Loons going to do? Obimbo's approval is under 50.
Posted by: John D | August 12, 2009 7:11 PM

Still cant count can you Johnny. The most recent poll has President Obama at 53%. Last time I checked that wasnt under 50. Even with those screaming nut cases disrupting what should be 'Civil' Town Halls, the most recent polls show support for President Obamas Health Plan holding steady.

Stupid, stupid people. ALL OF YOU. Who cares about whether youv'e spelled right, or your'e "astroturfed", or whatever! Before you proceed to insult each other, take 30 minutes and read the facts of what is being presented. Whether you agree with or are opposed to "health care reform", you prove yourselves to be idiots to just mindlessly spout the "talking points" put out by one side or the other. Educate yourselves, if that is possible, or be proven to be the "sheep" that all of us laugh at!

The problem herein lies that Obama has gone too far. He's misread the public's mandate and the people are angry. You may want nationalized healthcare but a large percentage of the country does not. And that's a fact of life. Your refusal to acknowledge or even given a moment's thought that the people don't want this legislation shoved down their throats is just as arrogant as the protesters. You see, your opinion is one of the same.

Okay, let's hear from all those who scream about a mainstream media bias. The Trib and Mark Silva is running a story that says that 61 percent of Americans approve of the protests. Why would the liberal lovin' Trib media, and the libs behind all political polls, release this info?

Jose,
Selective memory is a trademark of the "oppressed" Pugs. That, and Limpbag tells them if they repeat it enough, people will accept it as fact.

John D is a colossal clown, not to mention a liar. You mean Bush/Cheney never fell below 50%? What planet were you living on? And this isn't about debate? This is about both sides being heard. The loony right has decided that only their side deserves to be heard. Sounds like the USSR to me. Plus if the right wingnuts are anything like John D, we'd never hear the truth from them, anyway.

The simple fact that it's so easy to get the Dem's off message and on the defensive is curious. Why so defensive? What's in this "reform" that you don't want us to see? What we have here is a pop culture president selling a product that doesn't exist. All I hear is rhetoric and more campaigning.

Granny Quack,

1) I wouldn't trust any ranking by the WHO.

2) What the current health bill will do is either ration care or raise taxes to keep health care at current levels. If taxes aren't raised, a way to cut cost is to euthanize the elderly since most health care costs occcur in an individual's last year.

3) Under the proposed plan, Americans will have a choice to keep their private insurance. The assumption is that the company they work for will make the choice to keep offering health insurance. The current bill has a 8% of payroll buyout. From a bottom line point of view, if I was teh CEO I would write the check to the gov't and say you handle it.

4) Give it time and one trial lawyer, abortion will be covered.

5) According to more current polls, Americans don't want gov't run health care.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/august_2009/support_for_congressional_health_care_reform_falls_to_new_low

6) See # 2 above. Either taxes go up or care gets rationed. Name a major gov't run program that has met customer expectations AND come in below budget. See Social Security and Medicare for financial failures.

7) There is plenty of time. The House bill would call for implentation in 2013, with the exception of the tax increases to fund it - those would start in 2011. That is the dirty little secret that helped the "balance" the budget of this bill.

8) The Pelousy Puppies are out for one thing - Congression career preservation. They haven't acted that conservative so far when voting on the Spendulus and Cap and Tax.

9) The trillion dollars is over a seven year period as opposed to the tax revenues over a nine year period. When the number of years are equal, this is nothing but a deficit buster. Unless health care is rationed.

http://jec.senate.gov/republicans/public/_files/FinancingHealthCareExpansionwithSurtaxesonHighIncomesJuly302009.pdf

And there you go bragging about Cuba - acountry that is now suffering a toliet paper shortage.

Scot S. Blakeley - Depends on how you slice the pie - "Overall, 48% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. That matches the lowest level of total approval yet recorded. Fifty-two percent (52%) now disapprove." Rasmussan 8/12/2009.

Thank you for reporting the truth for once, Swamp. Listening to the hate of the angry lefties here is always therapeutic but there's extra special about listening to them call for "civil discourse" while also labelling opponents "repub mouthbreathers." Starting to get a clue about where we learned it from, lefties?

One of the "protestors" today had a sign saying "Death To Obama". When will people start admitting the real reason these protestors are so filled with hatred and venom? And when will the corporations which stand to lose profits if real health reform is passed reach a point that the hatred and anger they are stoking and harnessing for their political purposes finally begins to scare them enough to stop? And will it be too late? A corporation has no soul, no conscience. Any decision to stop the madness will have to come from human beings.

Mr. Blakely, according to the most recent Rasmussen poll, Obama is at 48. As far as polls on Obama's health care, just about every poll has the public against, anywhere from 51 to 60 percent and growing.
Demented Twin (dt), Bush tried to tackle Social Security reform and you Loons and your Demoncrapic friends put a stop to that. Bush also tackled terrorism, something the previous administration did not.
As far as the health care bills are concerned, those attending the town hall meetings and questioning their Congressmen and Senators are reading from the bills (yes, the 650-page Senate version and the 1,000-page House version). Seems these folks are informed. Heck, at least they are reading the bills unlike the incompetent Demoncrapic senators and House thugs.
Oh, and please stop posting the Top 9 LIES about U.S. health care.

Durbin won't even have Townhall meetings. Time to picket his homes and maybe he might listen. Come on America, wake up,

First, grannydoc, I didn't read your mindless rant because it is strictly your opinion. How do you know that any of what you say is true other the fact that you can cite some liberal slug telling you these things. To those who are saying that old people shouldn't be screaming about their loss of healthcare....these people PAID into Medicare since it's inception. It is their benefit! THEY PAID for it! Just like they paid into social security! If they don't get the healthcare, our government has stolen their money. I would LOVE to stop subsidizing other people's healthcare, and keep my own money out of Medicare and Social Security. I'll take care of myself thank you. All of you libs balking at republicans are no different. Listening to your Rachel Maddow (communist), Al Franken (communist/socialist), Obama (pacifist/communist/socialist), and every other liberal dimwit. If you think the government should pay for all this crap for everyone else, donate your entire paycheck, and leave me out of it.

Wow, it is very entertaining to read these messages. The hypocrisy coming from liberals is staggering. They have made a living disrupting meetings and holding loud protests for years and now that someone else does it, there are all kinds of rules and protest etiquette that they should be following. Liberals cannot defend the healthcare plan on its perceived merits, so they launch into hateful diatribes. I wonder if you truly realize how stupid you all sound. Fox News, Bush, Rove, Limbaugh, Palin, etc. Do you people have an original thought? You can't put together a coherent argument, do you realize that?

Stop buying the lies of party politics. It is ridiculous to hold the view that one party is always right and the other is always wrong. Think for yourself for a change.

I scratch my head when I see that some people post comments in support of government run healthcare. But then I realize that the people who support this issue are the same people who support a 10.25% county tax, increasing state tax to 4.5% and increase real estate tax. Amazing! Get a clue people. Government run anything doesn't work. Look to our city, county and state for proof.

All the lefties with their hands out trying to get mo' free stuffs. Sorry cholly, no free ride fo' you today.

-----------------------------------------

Who are these democrats that have a problem with how the wiser opposition has awakened to oppose this latest take-over of a sector of the economy that most Americans can and do understand? If the situation were reversed, the democrat protesters would be on the edge of rioting at every venue. There would be shouting, cursing, single digit salutes, fists, eggs in flight, blood smeared, a little urine in the mix, the requisite flag burning, Prince and Darth hung in effigy, anything else that a fetid imagination could concoct. Give the democrats due credit, they know how to conduct a proactive in-your-face protest. Nothing or No One would be spared if it were their movement.

Would not have imagined that the middle of the road, Brave New World American could get overly concerned about anything ~ Energy destruction, National Non-Security, Insidious Cap and Tax, Deficit Spending that NO ONE can set a frame of reference for, and worse of all, a permanent loss of freedom and liberty attained nefariously by a total disregard and disrespect of the United States Constitution. Concepts are always hardest to understand but fortunately, people can understand the commodity end of a transaction.

America, don’t be like Django, just “hoping” for the best. Here’s my Brave New World medical counter-plan: Don’t get sick. That is the full, 1,000 page + plan. If it is not in your heart America, to concede, Don’t Concede. This movie is just getting started.

The Big Health Insurance Lobby-Republican Puppets, who are using aggressive, foaming at the mouth tactics to shut down the possibility of a political discussion on healthcare in this country are reminiscent of the anti-desegregation movement, a point that becomes noteworthy when you aggregate the motives of the Wingnut "birthers", who loudly deny Obama's citizenship, the Wingnut "teabaggers", who loudly declare that the same taxes they paid under Bush are tyrannical under Obama, the Wingnut "deathers", who loudly assert that healthcare reform is secret plot to euthanize seniors and others that the government deems unproductive.

None of these positions makes a lick of sense or has any evidence to back it up, but in large part it is the same group of hard-right nutjobs, almost entirely white conservatives that believes all three at once. If you believe the Repug shouters themselves, in their own words, the healthcare debate isn't about healthcare but about a conspiratorial government and the end of the Republic.

This is, by definition, a far-right position, and less charitably a batsh*t insane one, and that it has managed to make it so far and be featured so prominently is testament to just how completely the farthest of the far right has captured the Republican party and why they can't win elections anymore.

Socialized mediciane is great, just ask any Canadian who comes to the U.S. for treatment.

where was this study done? at one of the rallys with some of the protesters? i think any debate is great but when yelling in screaming replace common sense, its just a tactic to stop the debate completely. most of these protesters are making no sense, retired people saying they don't want the government in their medicare? if stephen hawkings was under the european system he wouldn't receive care? what the organizers of these protests need to do is educate themselves so they make sense. yelling louder than your opponent does not make you smarter.

These people go way beyond voicing their opinion. They are trying to drown out honest debate. Debate we need on this issue.

I know something about organizing protests. Give me a few leaders scattered through the crowd and a few dozen fanatic believers and I can shut down any attempt at rational discussion. That's what is happening at these town halls. And that is not democracy no matter what some people may say.

the sad thing about this reform is that the very people this bill would help are the same ones raising all this sand, what a bunch of losers, they don't deserve the benefits of this package, may they pain for their stupidity and ignorance with premiums that will bankrupt their families and friends.

The Most Important question is directed to Barack Obama AND is very important He answers it NOW:

WHY OBAMA REFUSES TO SHOW HIS LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE & THE REST OF HIS ID DOCUMENTS?

***The Peace of our entire country rests on the answer to this question***

MC CAIN had his documents reviewed and inspected by the entire Senate,
Nobody dared to ask Obama for his ID documents for fear to be called RACIST.

SO NOBODY has SEEN OBAMA'S DOCUMENTS-------NOBODY!!

WELL, WE AMERICANS DEMAND THIS MAN SHOWS HIS DOCUMENTS NOW OR FACE IMPEACHMENT AND OR ARMED INSURRECTION.

You can believe they'll be the first ones in line demanding their " socialized medicine "
and whatever else they think they're entitled to.
The fact is these right wingnuts cannot stand our duly elected predient because he is not * one of us * meaning white. Deny as they try, it's there, smoldering and festering hate and intolerance.
The insurance lobby knows this, too and is using them to do their dirty work, even though neighter has much use for the other.

Leave it to a bunch of idiot Repubs to even screw up protesting. You can't protest if nobody can hear you. You also can't protest against something that doesn't, and will never, exist (death panels). You lost the election because you chose to run the only idiot Republican who would support Bush's war machine. You lost, get over it. You have no voice in government, your opinions are laughed at around the country and the rest of the world. We're telling you, what you told the Dems for eight years. Shut up and go away. Nobody cares what you think. Health Care Reform will pass without Repub votes. There's a lot of wide open space in Alaska. Maybe you Repubs can all go live with Governor Quitter and watch Russia from your back door. Maybe you'll be safe from the big, bad "terrists" there.

More Americans that speak up against Obamacare, the better.
Looks like most know more about the issue than the speakers including Obama.

Disgusted, like most loons on the left you have a reading and comprehension problem. Never in my post do I say that Bush's approval ratings ever fell below 50 percent. This is what I did say: "Obimbo's approval is under 50. Peloony and Harry "Illegal Land Deals" Reid have an approval in the mid teens, both far below anything Bush/Cheney encountered."

The approval rating for Pelosi and Reid is 14 percent, about half as much as Bush's worst polling numbers. Nowhere in there do I say Bush never fell below 50 percent.

Rule number one for the Loons on the Left: Go back to school, kindergarten preferrably, and begin to learn how to read, comprehend and think.

John D. Well said my man!

Back in 2005, a higher percentage believed the Iraq war was a good idea. As the truth came out, and people were able to sort through the misinformation, those numbers dropped steadily. Once the misinformation is seen for what it is in the healthcare debate, we will see support rise.

The GOP has this drill down cold: use apocalyptic rhetoric that inspires fear, bigotry and extremism among the uneducated and intolerant. Keep turning up the heat and act surprised when somebody finally heeds your calls for extreme action. Be sure to say you were only speaking figuratively and you are being unfairly blamed when violence occurs. Keep your celebrations behind closed doors.

"I find it amusing that all the old white people who use socialized medicine are so opposed to others receiving it."

Well-said. It's them and also the fat hillbillies who are too ignorant to realize they're being pimped for political gain. Images of these rabid town hall savages are being broadcast around the world and now everyone gets a chance to see uncivilized white America at its best.

The Democratic Congress better nix Healthcare if they have any brains, for sure the public as a whole doesn't want it.

Obama town hall was a dog and pony show..... 90% stacked in his favor.

In NH they won't meet with us.

They are going to be sorry when it comes election time....... we will boot all their asses out.

You right wingers are way behind the curve.

You're still trying to learn checkers.

Obama is playing chess at the Grand Master level.

oops....I've said too much.....

If the Democrats don't pass a Public Option for Health Insurance reform, there is no point in reforming Health Insurance at all.

Here's why: You have to ensure those with pre-existing conditions can get health insurance and don't end up bankrupt because they have a heart attack or get hit by a drunk driver.

Who's to say coops and non-profits are going to insure hi-risk patients with pre existing conditions. In effect, all you've done is create an entity that can compete with insurance industries sort of like the Electric industry.

You'll still have millions of un-insurable Americans who will have to sell their homes, take their kids out of college, declare bankruptcy and have all their American Dreams dashed.
