President Barack Obama and his family returned to the White House today from a weeklong vacation on Martha's Vineyard interrupted by some big national stories.
But the president is planning to take the rest of the week off.
"The president will continue his vacation through the end of the week,'' the White House press secretary announced this evening -- with a note that the media will be informed "if any public events are added to the schedule.''
The White House already had said toward the end of the Obama family's week of vacation that they would head to Camp David in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland later this week and spend some of the Labor Day weekend there -- Thursday through Sunday at camp. But a spokesman had said some events in Washington were planned Wednesday.
But tonight, they left the week open for the president until further notice -- leaving it to Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to hold a briefing on Monday and address whatever news he wants to address, or make.
The president's vacation was interrupted by an apperance with Ben Bernanke early last week as Obama announced that he was nominating the Federal Reserve chairman for a second term, and Obama and wife Michelle attended the funeral mass for Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in Boston on Saturday, with the president delivering the eulogy.
It's possible that the president hasn't finished all the books he took yet.

Dear Mr. President, as much as we love watching your family tour the world, I must be honest and tell you - when your bills start coming in, we cannot pay them - we are all broke.
Not sure you realize - we the people are in the middle of a recession - and have no jobs and what was the the other guys dream - oh yeah - healthcare.

Anyone remember the last President's vacations? They were always working vacations. Sure, there was stuff to do on the ranch - clear brush, chop wood, the general crap you have to put up with to prevent a wild fire in Texas. And foreign dignitaries were almost always a part of it. Building an international policy while maintaining a home on vacation. hussein is taking two weeks off to accomplish what? hope and change?

He didn't have to reappoint Bernanke last week -- the term's not up until January. He only did it to distract us from the dismal economic news.
Please Mr. Prez -- get over yourself.

Obama has had several vacations already this year. How many vacations does a POTUS need in less than 8 months of the first year? Obama is catching up with Bush's record quickly already.

Ok, a vacation after his vacation after Paris, Chicago, New York, London, Moscow, golf four times a week.........good lord has the man ever worked or just appear on TV.
But his only experience is community organizing which really doesn't take much time or effort.
To another poster - yea, who does dress these people - so very low rent.

President Bush used his 'vacations' to do his diplomatic work. Sure, he got some needed time outside, but he had very little true time off, in reality. Huge vacations were always a myth the Left pushed to discredit him. I remember NO vacations of his wherein he did not do some presidential work or have dignataries with him.

Regarding Obama's "reading list"
Back in June Obama told a British interviewer that he was reading a book titled Netherland, a book Obama first said he began back in April.
The book “Hot, Flat and Crowded.” he was on record stating a year ago that he was in the middle of reading it, and quoted it at a campaign stop in Flint.
Zogby now says that the Marxist's approval rating is at 43%.
You State-run journalists sure are failing at your propaganda missin.

Obama does have a job and when you have a job you get a vacation. And who said he wasn't working? I'm sure he just never got any updates, or checked his messages, or actually talked to his staff. All of you need to get a life. And who really cares how the President's family dresses. If they were in designer clothes all the time, you wouldn't be happy about that either. Re: Sarah Palin
