Sarah Palin redux: 'Civil discourse': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

After stirring a hornet's nest with a claim that President Barack Obama and fellow Democrats are planning government "death panels'' in a healthcare reform that promises to be "downright evil,' Alaska's Sarah Palin now says it's time for a "civil discourse.''

The former governor, at her Facebook page, notes today that "Alaskans will join Senators Murkowski and Begich in town hall meetings to discuss the current health care legislation.

"There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment,'' Palin writes in her Facebook Noes, the number of followers growing in the past few days.

"Such tactics diminish our nation's civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters' passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying,'' she writes. "Let's not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us.''

It seems a little late for that, perhaps, considering Palin's rabble-rousing comments over the weekend and now with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer denouncing the people who have disrupted congressional town-hall meetings with loud protests as "simply unAmerica.''

The extremist wing of the Republican party just makes it up. There motto, "If it feels good, say it". Fact is a four letter word for the ideological shock troops.

Fear, Hatred, Distortion and Division. It's all they've got.

Hypocrite thy name is Sarah.

Step 1....Open mouth
Step 2....Insert foot
Step 3....Pray voters are stupid enough.

To the Tribune and other media outlets: Will you people please STOP reporting on every little tidbit that passes Mrs. Palin's lips? Really, NO ONE cares about her and her opinions. She is officially a NOBODY.

If I start blogging on Facebook to all my friends, will you start to report on my opinions too? If no, why not?

A little late, dont-cha think, Sarah?

If anyone is serious about knowing what the different plans offer, please visit this side-by-side comparison.

I suggest that representatives schedule more town halls about healthcare reform but conduct them using a specific format. Specifically, by using the below comparison chart of the different bills in congress as a template for discussions. This will add structure to the town halls which I believe is sorely lacking.

Please check out these comparison charts:

I try not to poke fun at our elected officials, especially if they are just voicing their opinions. It is really hard to stay that course, when it comes to ex-Governor Palin. She has a whole shoe store in her mouth, these days. What has gone wrong with the former Governor of Alaska ? Has she overloaded her circuits ? I hope that is all it is. Maybe, she can take some time off, with her family and get away, for a while.
Once again, I would personally like to thank Senator McCain for his selfishness, in selecting then-Governor Palin. He went for the cheap vote. He thought he could fool the electorate. How wrong was he !!? President Obama and Vice-President Biden are doing well and America is getting better. She will be a great deal better, when her citizens have real healthcare, not the Corporate version of American roulette !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Cal I be on Sarah's "death panel"? Oh please, please!

So Palin fires off some Facebook junk about killing babies and "death panels" and then tells her mindless mobs to engage in "civil discourse"? If it were only so easy...

http://www.political-buzz.com/

Even though she's toned it down bit, the woman is still a loon--completely certifiable. She has no intention of fostering civil discussions; just publicity for her and her brand of reactionary politics. Joseph McCarthy would be proud...

What a moron....

What a two faced liar! Sarah Palin tries to stir up her fans by declaring that Obama and the Democrats are going to set up a death squad and refuse to give health care to her parents and her disabled son. (First of all-instead of crying about all the Government aid that a child with Down Syndrome needs--many Down children take regular classes and even attend college, depending on how much attention, motivation and encouragement they are given in their childhood. (Palin seems to think that Trig is a political tool that she can use, rather than a child who needs extra attention and love.) Now that Palin sees that most voters think her comments are meant to incite voters against Obama and his health plan efforts, now she tells the voters they should be more civil and thoughtful.

The contention that Democratic-sponsored healthcare bills would encourage euthanasia has circulated on the Internet for weeks. The nonpartisan group FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, has refuted the claim as false and dismissed it as a distortion. The allegation appears to be based on a provision of one of the House bills under consideration requiring Medicare to pay for end-of-life counseling sessions, on a voluntary basis, for beneficiaries who want the service. Medicare already covers hospice care. Characterizing this kind of counseling as a “death panel” is one of the many pieces of disinformation being circulating about the health care bills under consideration.
Ms. Palin should have done her homework instead of falling victim to the distortion. Her call for “civil discourse” seems now disingenuous. Hopefully her fellow Republicans will nonetheless heed her call and it won’t be viewed as being too late.

She wouldn't know what civil discourse was if it landed on her enormous up-do. Go. Away.

Palin is a 'Projectionist'.... All of the Right Wing hacks spend most of their talking points projecting their own failures onto others. Palin is no exception.

She's a moron who's just trying to instigate violence and a mob-mentality.... I really hope she somehow disapears from society.

Maybe if you all stopped paying attention to her, she would just go away....

Palin's Death Panels A Reality http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/08/palinapproved-death-panels.html

To paraphrase an old Steve Martin joke: "If God had had an Angel of Death [like Sarah Palin] he never would've died."

Here's some video of some of that "civil discourse" that Palin and the rest of the Repug mouthbreathers "aren't" encouraging.

Must-see video from Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor's recent speech at the Tampa, Florida town hall co-hosted by the SEIU and State Rep. Betty Reed:

If you know anybody who's got doubts about the true nature of the anti-health care wingnut goons trying to disrupt health care town halls, have them watch this video. Let them see for themselves the truly infantile behavior of these angry wingnuts. They aren't interested in dialogue, debate, or discussion. All they want to do is hear their own voices scream, shouting down anybody with whom they happen to disagree.

The full speech is about fifteen minutes long. You can watch it here. The wingnut goons were trying to shout Castor down for almost the entire speech, and for at least five minutes of it, they made her nearly impossible to hear.

It's a free country. She has the right to say what she wants to, and we have the right to listen or not. I believe that she knows what is going on, and I personally find her to be more credible than the leader of our nation.

Interesting, the Trib doesn't actually use the word hypocrisy here, but it's clear from this story that that's what's going on. Not that it's wrong to report that, but interesting all the same.

With this level of inadequate thinking it's amazing Palin passed McCain's initial screening for veep in the first place..

Sounds like the pitbull has a new lipstick color - "Sour Grapes"...

Palin calling for civil discourse is like a liquor store owner preaching sobriety, especially after her insane "death panel" claim.

Last week she's accusing Obama of advocating "death panels" and calls the health care reform act "evil," and now she's saying we need civil discourse? This is a pretty good indication of the value of her woefully uninformed opinion. If the news media would stop paying attention to her, maybe she would fade into well-deserved obscurity.

We can all disagree about the details or implementation of healthcare, but to call someone "evil" who wants healthcare for the 40+ million people (including children) who don't have it is pretty over-the-top. Has anybody ever considered that the people who want a national healthcare program simply care about fellow Americans who don't have it?

Why ANYONE would listen to someone that is so uninformed is downright stupid. IF this is the hope of the Republican party...then the get ready for twenty years of Democratic policies.

It is a sad day when Sarah Palin is coming across as more intelligent than the Democratic Leadership, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoye, are over the issue Health Reform. Palin is calling for a "civil discourse" in the Health Bill Debate while Pelosi and Hoyer are calling the opponents of Health Bill at Town Meetings Un-American and Nazis. It is sad to see the Democratic Party sink to such a low level. The Party has intelligent leaders. But one has to wonder why they put the incompetent and divisive Pelosi and Hoyer in charge. The Democrats can do better than those two.

"civil discourse"?. the bible toting, self righteous extremists have no clue what the word civil means. a bunch of arrogant spoiled brats who are fine with democracy, as long as they win. i was hoping they would stop their efforts to to disrupt honest dialog and conversation. it's only turning more folks against the GOP and will only lead to more lost elections. i voted for Ronald R and Bush Sr. the radical right has driven me away since (and alot of other folks too). General Powell is making efforts to bring folks like me back but the GOP won't listen.they're afraid of Rush and Hannity and cower at the thought of being reasonable.. if these Rush/Hannity programmed robots want to continue being spoiled little brats.....fine, so be it!. they can kiss future election wins goodbye too. they can not win without the moderates support, they once had on their side (like me).

So, now Sarah Palin wants "civil discourse"?!?!.....Palin should have thought of that before she threw her lot behind the corporate sponsored Repug Teabagger thugs who are currently terrorizing the health care townhalls all over America.

The Republican party is not only shrinking, it's having a very public mental meltdown.

(R)-John Cornyn thinks fact checking is pretext for domestic espionage. Which he's suddenly against. (R)-Chuck Grassley uses Ted Kennedy's medical condition as propaganda for his own false and nonsensical claims about "socialized medicine" killing old people -- and this is who Max Baucus is "negotiating" with to bring us his version of health care?!?!.

Rush Limbaugh pretends, out loud, to think Obama is like Hitler. Glenn Beck muses about poisoning Nancy Pelosi.

The Wingnut birthers are going strong, and the Wingnut teabaggers are trying to shut down healthcare reform by making town halls on the subject impossible.

Dick Morris and John Bolton agree: we should have left those two journalists to rot in North Korea, because Clinton going there to secure their release made the U.S. look weak, and now other countries will steal our lunch money at recess. And Lou Dobbs never met a conspiracy theory he didn't like, as long as it was about brown or black people, but after people got angry that he peddled false nonsense he says he's now reflexively going to oppose Obama on everything.

It's all so disgusting and pathetic that you just have to laugh at it. Between Cornyn, Grassley, Limbaugh and Beck, between Dobbs and Morris and Bolton, between birthers and "socialized" medicine but keep-your-hands-off-my-Medicare, the Wingnut stupid is overwhelming. It's become a tidal wave of Wingnut stupid. It's a giant Noah's Ark of Wingnut stupid, in which two examples of every kind of dumbarsery known to man have been loaded up to be set adrift on a sea of their own drool. It's the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" gameshow of stupid -- loud, with big flashing lights, and on every damn day of the week.

It's the result of Wingnuts drinking conservative bong water and eating the paint chips flaking off Bill Buckley's lead-encrusted casket.

I'd be afraid for the future of our country, but I know that if these goon Teabagging Wingnuts ever actually armed themselves and tried to take over they'd all have accidentally shot themselves in the groin within the first ten minutes. Then they'd all limp to D.C. to hold a Big Healthcare Industry Sponsored Astroturf rally demanding free government healthcare for crotch-related injuries.

Idiots, all of them...

Sarah Palin is herself the eptitomy of "Downright Evil" , her own words, to lie so baldly, blatantly and unconscionably. She is herself inciting violence, intimidation and harrassment by this rabble-rousing.

Palin is nuts. One of the republican pundits of our country...She does not even know the meaning of civilize discussion for crying out loud..get away from our country..yes you wassila baby..

It's too late for conservatives to attempt to quiet the high handedness of the left? THAT might be true, Mark. It wasn't Sarah Palin that started the townhall lie-fests, democrats did that, which turned normally quiet folks to become unglued. You may have seen this a lot in your life, Mark. People dislike being lied to.

The republican party, palin in tow are just destroying themselves with their ignorance and stupidity.
God bless our President Bam.

Seriously? This person makes the choice to abandon the governorship of a huge state, and is now blogging on a teenager's social networking site? Who is listening to her at all? Blogging on Facebook is two steps down from commenting on a newspaper's website, and a half step above tagging the El via stickynotes.

Citizen Palin now calls for civil discourse while the front groups continue to spout out venom.

At public forums, these groups take their direction from the infamous remark "Tell a lie often enough, loud enough, and long enough, and people will believe you."

These insincere comments are the root of her hypocrisy.

It would be a dream for the left to see Palin's star rise. Clearly her handlers are telling her to tone down the rhetoric already. Centrist Republicans must be vomiting on their sleeves. My heart breaks for them.

Perhaps Sarah should run for public office to try and effect the actions she sees as needed.

Anyone who still needs proof that the US has one of the worst healthcare financing systems in the world needs to watch this:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/

Hey TerryO, tell us one documented lie told by the Democrats at the town halls. Got anything to equal Palin's "The Obama death panel will kill my baby!" abomination?

palin is right. Obama is a socialist and out to make this country like France. When, actually, France is trying to reverse itself and become more like the U.S..

Why is the media publicizing this poor sick woman? The only people writing about her are the ones as desperate as she is.

Well, whatever one thinks of Palin, she is right about the "death panels." Rahm Emmauel's brother, medical doctor Ezekiel, is a lead figure in Obama's health care team. Ezekiel is on record more than once as favoring de facto euthanasia. He has written complaining that some doctors take the Hippocratic oath too literally and that "social justice" requires that care be withheld from the elderly and very sick so that resources can be diverted to younger people. The "death panels" which reward doctors for pressuring the elderly to design "exit strategies' are creepy and inappropriate. Obama could mute some opposition to socialized health care if he removed the "death panel" counseling provision. He also needs to remove the Mengele-like Emmauel from the mix. While he is involved, suspicions of government motives are inevitable.

Why can't we all just get along?

Yes. Please stop reporting on Palin.

Palin, the quitter, is irrelevant now. We don't need a trained seal, or a parrot, or a quitter in public office--especially on the national stage. The 'special' people in Alaska elected a 'special' governor. That would never play in the big room. Also, some adults need to grow up and not be in Facebook. It's pretty pathetic when older adults need to ask others to "friend" them online. No wonder teens and young adults are opting out of Facebook in droves.

I just clicked this on for one reason: I need to comment that I did not read this story.
In fact i do not read Sarah Palin stories. or Michael Jackson stories. I try to stick with stories that matter

Where was this Civil Discourse when her crowds were calling Obama a terrorist and shouting Kill Him?

Must mean that the throngs are getting beyond the Repub's control.

These corporate sponored teabagger thugs who are being bussed in to purposely disrupt things, are taking away the opportunity for average Americans to discuss healthcare at townhalls with their law makers. If the Republicans actually had anything to contribute to the healthcare discussion they wouldn't have to hire teabagger thugs to perfom their fake outrage performance art all over the country.

It's about time someone actually stands up for their ideals and beliefs. Whether her ideals are right or wrong, at least Sarah Palin isn't just "taking it" and accepting what is coming out of Washington DC as gospel truth and bow down to worship. Sarah Palin is exercising her right to free speech just like the rest of us are doing. She has every right; may we all respect that fact and let's all keep on exercising it!

I am not a U.S.citizen,iam portuguese and live in Portugal, but as i commented yesterday in another site,Sarah Palin has been insulted over and over, she is not dumb or stupid, the fact is that she seems to be the only opposition in your country and that is good for democracy.By the way why do you rush on such high numbers to comment what she says if you really believed she is nuts, as some of you say...

Sarah Palin's theme song should be the one the Scarecrow sang in the Wizard of Oz ....."If I Only Had a Brain"

Thanks for that link, " Steven Welkert ". It makes for some interesting and informative reading. How America has slipped, in so many areas and there is no good reason, except greed. How unfortunate, for her citizens !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

The likes of sarah palin need to be brought into daylight. Remember, the same was said of Hitler. And we know how that turned out.

All you people calling Republicans extremist, all you need to do is get a copy of the "Health Care" bill and read it. You don't have to read all 1000 pages of it but read the parts where it talks about what they want for senior coverage, or children born with birth defects. You don't have to take our word for it, get out and find the information and read it for yourself. Quit listening to these "so called" politicians who say they want the best for the USA. You need to find out everything you can about Obama and his true agenda, then come back and tell me we are wrong. Don't take my word or anyone else's just do some research, and not just CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC or CBS. checkout all the stations including FoxNews. See what both sides have to say.

If you aren't willing to do that, then accept what happens. I for one will be doing everything I can, mostly praying that this "healthcare" bill as written now, never sees the light of day. God Help Us that it doesn't happen.

It sure seem like the Tribune changed their comment section to need Email addresses. Is this part of the government now wanting to form a black list? It seems the people that went against the administration in Washington no longer comment. Was this the Tribune's attempt to silence the right wing voters and anyone who disagrees with the Health Care issue. It seem so. I as a regestered Democrat feel everyone has a right to be heard without ending up on a black list.

Publicity hound barking at you. You know it and you still buy it. Shame on you.

What's scary is that this person, who talks before thinking, could have been the vp of the country. She might have made all kinds of of stupid comments that could lead to international confrontations and problems. An this is the gop's great hope? It's getting harder to take the gop seriously.

Reporters, please stop posting anything she says. She is not doing anyone any good by her comments. She is spiriting the exact harmful commentary that she now says needs to be in "civil discourse". Do I agree with how the Congress and the President are trying to ram this bill down our throats...no. I think everyone should email/contact their congressmen and senators and tell them what YOU want in this bill that specifically talks about YOU! Sarah Palin is nothing more that a blabbing mouth, not quite as bad as Glen Beck but pretty darn close. Go to your congress folks and demand some action. Reports, stop reporting about Palin because she is inconsequential anymore. And folks, join me in no longer responding to Palin comments!

....most lefties are clueless, hateful idiots...that's explain most posts here...

That's right Sarah--continue to display your sour grapes and complete ineptitude. You need to have the grace to sit down and shut up (and take Cheney with you) now that you lost the election. People OBVIOUSLY did not prefer your opinion, nor do we want it now.

Ms. Palin is a bird-brained, anti-intellectual, hyperbolic twit. Tribune, please report more important information regarding health care reform, including the specifics of the bill in the House and Senate--and where all the elected officials in congress stand on the bill. Bury Ms. Palin's nonsense in the classifieds--right next to the "bird cage liners".

Health Care Reform is not free at all, someone has to foot the bill for those people who cant afford. The truth is..everyone should be on the waiting list period after it passed, and be sure that you dont need immediate medical attention when you go to the hospital.
Otherwise, just wait in line. Doctors are paid by the government equally, so why would they take time with you diagnosing your disease when there's too many people to take care too...including unemployed, couch potatoes, illegal immigrants...etc. We need socialized healthcare now!!!!

We've got Senator McCain to thank for unleashing this nut-job onto the public forum. She just won't shut up or go away. I've never seen someone lose and lose big and still be in the public eye like this.

Please just shut the hell up and go away. Better still, PLEEEEZE run her for President next time!!! I can't wait for that circus!!!

Top Nine BIG Lies about Health Care Reform from the Big Health Insurance Lobby and their Repuglican puppets - and One Truth

The Lies:

1) The United States has the BEST healthcare system in the world!

No, it doesn’t. In fact, for the amount of money we spend, we have one of the WORST.

We rank 37th by the World Health Organization in terms of Health system performance. Countries that out perform us include every single Western European nation (France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy etc...), Middle Eastern countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Israel), Latin American countries (our ‘poor’ neighbors to the South, Columbia, Chile, and Costa Rica) and even a few African countries. We just barely beat Slovenia and Cuba.

2) The current Healthcare bill will mandate euthanasia.

No, it doesn’t and it won’t. There is nothing in any health care reform bill before Congress that would require people to "decide how they wish to die." Yet Conservative talking points from activists and legislators, including Sarah Palin, have lied and suggested otherwise.

Section 1233 of the House bill would allow Medicare for the first time to cover patient-doctor consultations about end-of-life planning, including discussions about drawing up a living will or planning hospice treatment. Something anyone who is in their later years would naturally be interested in. Patients would, of course, seek out such advice on their own -- they would not be required to. The provision would limit Medicare coverage to one consultation every five years.

3) With healthcare reform, Americans will lose their private insurance.

No, they won’t. The bill does not force private insurers out of business or force people onto the public plan.

The CBO, in fact, estimates the House bill would result in a net increase of 3 million Americans with employer-provided care.

In truth, it would be a GOOD thing if private insurers did go out of business, because their private profit is predicated on a diseased and sickened America trapped into going to their outrageously expensive ‘resources’ for care (the ultimate captive market), but, unfortunately, that is not what is in the bill. Not even close.

4) The Health Care Legislation Mandates Taxpayer Dollars Pay for Abortions

No, it doesn’t. In fact, the House Energy and Commerce Committee adopted an amendment, proposed by Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.), that would prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.

"Private health care providers are free to cover abortion, but not with federal funds," -- U.S. News and World Report.

5) Americans Don't Want a Government-Run Health Care Plan

Yes, they do. Republicans have consistently berated the proposal for a government-sponsored health insurance plan, or "public option," as unpopular.

But, in fact, a CBS/ New York Times poll from late July shows that, even though doubts have grown in recent months about Mr. Obama's health care proposals, 66 percent of Americans still want the government to provide a health insurance plan like Medicare to compete with private health insurers.

6) Healthcare will be rationed with a health care reform.

Healthcare will not be rationed. One of the misleading buzzwords in the health care debate is "rationing" -- the idea that patients will have limited treatment options if the government becomes more involved in health care delivery.

In fact, while a public plan would not be able to cover all procedures, private insurance plans do not either. The difference is, actual health needs will determine the priority on who gets care, not someone’s ability to pay. If you have the money, of course, you can always pay extra and get your nose job or breast implant done privately, pronto, rather than waiting behind the long line of critical care and cancer patients (for example) who will have priority in a public system.

7) Health care reform is not urgent. We should take more time to study matters.

Urgency is in the eye of the beholder. Close to 50 million Americans currently have NO health insurance, which means something as simple as an auto accident could bankrupt them. During the span of Congress' three-week vacation this August, 43,250 people will lose their health insurance coverage, 53,507 people will file for bankruptcy because they can't pay their medical bills, and 1,265 people will die because they lack coverage.

8) The Blue Dogs are honestly interested in cutting government costs in Health Care Reform

No, they aren’t. Our so called ‘Blue dogs’, those self described fiscally conservative Democrats are in the back pockets of the drug and health insurance companies. Follow the money. When Blue Dog Democrats negotiated a compromise with Democratic leadership over certain elements of health care reform, they required the government-sponsored health insurance option that would be created to negotiate its own payment rates, rather than using Medicare payment rates, which will dramatically increase the costs to the American taxpayer. They also refused to allow cheaper drugs from Canada to compete with US firms.

According to a CBO preliminary analysis, the cost of those two changes would almost completely offset the $100 billion achieved in savings elsewhere. It’s not about being fiscally conservative, it’s about helping the insurance companies and drug companies maintain their profit thresholds—at the expense of America’s health.

9) Health care reform will cost us nearly One Trillion dollars!

No, it won’t. First of all, that's not a trillion every year, as most people assume -- it's a trillion over 10 years, which is the way that people in Washington talk about federal budgets. On an annual basis, that translates to about $140 billion, when things are up and running.
Even that, however, grossly overstates the net cost to the government of providing universal coverage. Other parts of the reform plan would result in offsetting savings for Medicare: reductions in unnecessary subsidies to private insurers, in annual increases in payments rates for doctors and in payments to hospitals for providing free care to the uninsured. The net increase in government spending for health care would likely be about $100 billion a year, a one-time increase equal to less than 1 percent of a national income that grows at an average rate of 2.5 percent every year.

* And now, a simple TRUTH: Selling American’s health for profit is a killer system

It kills the average American, while reaping huge profits for the privileged few. Why do we pay the MOST of any country on Healthcare cost and reap such few benefits, barely able to keep ahead of Cuba which pays less than 1/100th of what we pay per capita? Because Shareholder and CEO profits trump access to quality health care. The U.S. averages twice as much spending on health care with worse outcomes than any other industrialized nation on Earth. Where does the money go? Into the drug companies and health insurance industry pockets, that’s where. Commercial health insurance is responsible for 20 to 30% of health care dollars siphoned to excessive administrative costs, lobbying, marketing, CEO salaries and profit-taking. $1.4 billion stock options to former UnitedHealth CEO William McGuire, for example; another $30 billion went to after-tax health insurance profits, plus $32 billion insurance underwriting and marketing costs.

All that money could have cured thousands if not millions of Americans. Instead, it went to health care and drug company CEOs who have spent lavishly on Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to ensure that meaningful healthcare reform does not happen in this country. That money is spent in hopes that you will continue to believe the 9 big lies that are currently be propounded by their lobbyists and fellow travelers and in hopes that you ignore this single truth: They don’t care about your health, they care about their wealth.

Thank you for saying it like it is Mrs. Palin. Our President lied to us right out of the gate, and continues to lie to us now. If this is such a great plan then why won't congress and the President go on the same plan!! The plan isnt to reform healhcare , it is to nationalize it, then ration it. WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE IT'S TO LATE!! GOD BLESS AMERICA
IN GOD WE TRUST

the fact that there are people that think of sarah palin as an intellegent person, and take her serious in any venue, really scares me. i worry what this country is headed for

THANK GOODNESS, J. McCain wasnt elected, and then found out later he isn"t a citizen of the U.S. he was born in PANAMA. THIS LOON SARA PALIN would then have become PRESIDENT

Sarah Palin is the best thing that could happen to democrats. I can't think of a better way to ensure Dems stay in power for the forseeable future if this woman is the face of the GOP.

Oh please, she's only calling for "civil discourse" now so that she can whine and cry when anyone "attacks" her. It's the only play in her playbook. Haven't you understood that by now, Trib? As a couple others have mentioned, please start ignoring her.

Palin is now trying to tone it down. But her strings are pulled by the GOP/RNC. She could not have written the posts on her facebook page. There are related posts at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588 and http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588&paged=2

If you look up the word AIRHEAD, Sarah whatever is next to it.

100% of the people causing problems at these town hall meetings did not vote for Obama. Since Obama was elected by an overwhelming majority, they people are insequential. They are the idiot fringe of the republican party that will do anything they are told to do because they do not know any better

Sarah Who? Didn't her show get canceled? Oh, she's the former governor who doesn't know what newspapers she reads and says she quit to save the people of her state from being subjected to her final year of goofing off? I'm sure she has insightful views on healthcare.

100% of the people causing problems at these town hall meetings did not vote for Obama. Since Obama was elected by an overwhelming majority, they people are insequential. They are the idiot fringe of the republican party that will do anything they are told to do because they do not know any better

She is a terrible writer.

Have you heard any republican come up with their own healthcare plan. NO, reason being is that they don't want to change the system They truly believe that America's Healthcare system is fine. The neo cons are like the pied piper. As they toot the idiots follow.

She is not a person I would trust with government. She may have personal virtues that are valued, but I find her inconsistency about public issues disturbing. I do not think that she is intelligent. I think she is inconsistent and off the wall. How she became Governor is a mystery to me.

Please tell her to go away, maybe she can hang out with Mark Stanford !!!!!. This is why they lost the elections.

Just amazing,

I have to admit, I can't get enough of this nut job. What a train wreck. She is like a box of choclates!!

I don't demolish my house to remodel my kitchen. Get a clue. I don't care if the United States allegedly has the 'worst' health care system in the world. Demolishing the entire system is tyrannical and stinks of despotism. (click here to report this to Obama)

I really wish the press would quit regurgitating everything that psycho palin has to say. I mean her own family doesn't listen to her why is the press listening? Aren't her idiotic, extremest [rhetoric] statements tantamount to insurrection?? Palin and Limbaugh are the two morons the Republicans selected to be in the top echelon on their party. What a sad commentary on the status of their minds in the party.

how does she know whats in the bill has she read it? i didnt hear that the bill has even been finalized.

Sanctimonious. Hypocritical. Garbage.

The republicans have non sensible argument against health care reform, and they know it. That is why they are using misinformation and shouting tactics.

It's a free country. She has the right to say what she wants to, and we have the right to listen or not. I believe that she knows what is going on, and I personally find her to be more credible than the leader of our nation.

Is runt because you are a small person or the size of your brain? No one is disputing her right to an opinion. But the same person asking for "civil discourse" is the same person that just a few days ago called the Democratic plan "hateful".

As a fomor fetus i oppose abortion! I think Sarah is doing a good thing about speeking against the death pannel. It kills peaple! And since every one is folowing her so closly she could make a difference... wether people like her or not.

Apparently Sarah didn't get the memo from Wingnut Central Command (Druggy Rush, Faux News etc) explaining that shouting down those who seek dialogue on healthcare reform is essential to Repug victory.

Poor Sarah. She's always going to be one step behind the curve.

Who the hell is Sarah Palin is she a politician????

After making three horrible wishes, Sarah turned to the Genie and said "I take it all back- I want you to make it the way it was before I spoke". And the Genie said. "That's four wishes, Sarah" The Moral of the story. Once it leaves your lips Sarah, you can't put the genie, or your words, back in the bottle. By the way Sarah, this is the 117th genie, and it's getting a little thin.

Sarah The Quitter won't admit that it's her fellow republican wingnuts who refuse to permit any form of civil discourse. It is these very people she now represents who disrupt and shout down officials and their constituents at townhall meetings and anywhere else a camera is present.
Sarah The Quitter is what the republican party is now all about: rank hypocricy and fascism.

I am and have for years been a registered Republican. But I can no longer support the GOP because of their connection to Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and the commentators at FOX news. Their connection to the far right righteous have driven moderate and liberal Republicans right out of the party. Palin, Gingrich and the rest will say or do ANYTHING including lies to sell their sick agenda. The far right are far, far more dangerous to our freedom than the so called "liberals" they speak of with distain. Actually, to them, anyone who has any disagreement with their agenda is labeled a "liberal". Until the GOP moves away from the "so called" conservatives that have taken over the party, I will vote Democratic and I urge everyone to do the same. .

Hey Depot Jim: I'm sorry, you must have confused Pelosi with Limbaugh regarding the Nazis. It was he who said the health care logo looked like the Nazis' and refers to the Administration as the Third Reich! Palin was blogging about "death panels" and killing babies; Glenn Beck was "pretending" to poison Pelosi's wine on his tv show, and Gretchen Carlson flat-out lied about Pelosi calling the protesters un-American! She said "drowning out any one with an opposing view is un-American." It's all in the context. Check out www.mediamatters.org to see what your beloved Republican Party is doing. Wake up, for G*d's Sake!

More thuggery from the anti-healthcare Repug Teabagging Goons.....

BIG HEALTH INSURANCE LOBBY/CORPORATE SPONSORED REPUBLICAN TEA-BAGGER THUGS - THREATEN THE LIFE OF A DEM CONGRESSMAN OVER HEALTHCARE BILL:

GOP = Fascism:

"A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion."
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism#Definitions

That is exactly what is happening with the Rethuglican party in 2009.

The corporate sponsored Republican Teabagger thugs who are purposely disrupting healthcare townhalls, are making arses out of themselves and they're overplaying their hand....again.

These Repug Teabagging clowns don't even know what's in the healthcare bill, because THERE ISN"T A HEALTHCARE BILL YET. That's why they want to shout down people at these Townhalls, they don't want to talk. They want to score points for the Big Health Insurance Lobby that busses then in and gives them mindless talking points to shout out.

These Wingnut fake outrage performance art nutjobs, who are doing the dirty work for the Big Healthcare Lobby, are starting to look like the angry mobs who attended McCain/Palin events in the dying days of that campaign - they think they're going to force people to agree with them (minority), while at the same time not realizing that their repulsive behavior is making them look like morons to everyone else.

I'm loving it - Party on, Wingnuts!

The right wing media (Faux News, Rush etc) and right wing lunatic fringe astroturf groups are spreading the health insurance industry's script, reporting things as "news" when they are scare tactics and lies. Pretty much everyone is aware of it now. The teabaggers phony fake outrage gig has been exposed pretty well now, they're not convincing anyone of anything other than the fact that they're a bunch of toothless morons.

I mean, how can a rational adult believe that congress would write a bill that would demand a parent kill their son/daughter who is sick with a serious illness, or one that would kill old people? Ha Ha Ha!

I mean, can they really believe this? I don't think so, this is irrational fear taking over any rational thought.

What's left of the Republican base are people who would would follow Rush or Beck off a cliff if it was demanded of them by their Repub overlords. They're not exactly free thinkers, they're people (dittoheads) who blindly follow their right wing authoritarian leaders because their personality demands it.

Thankfully they are a minority, even if they are loud, obnoxious and profoundly stupid.

You know the hired Teabagger thugs/Opponents of health-care reform for poor and middle-class Americans -- which obviously includes nearly every talking head who appears on Faux News -- are getting desperate when they start trying to scare elderly people by suggesting that President Obama's health-care plans will mean euthanization for old folks when they get hurt.

That's what the lunatic fringe crew at Faux & Friends on Monday morning did, led by "Faux News legal analyst" Peter Johnson Jr., and aided and abetted by Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson.

"Glenn Beck was "pretending" to poison Pelosi's wine on his tv show, and .."

Martha,
Glenn Beck has also had long reveries about strangling Mike Moore.
I believe Beck is not just mentally ill, but also shows symptoms of a psychotic serial killer. He repeatedly day dreams about killing someone he regards as 'the enemy'.
At some point an intervention is called for.

You can bet Sarah Palin did not read the health bill and is only aware of what is included by listening to Rush and other radio talk show hosts. I am so sick and tired of Sarah Palin. I am a conservative Republican and Sarah Palin is a one-woman wrecking crew who will destroy what remains of the Republican Party.

i find it amazing that people as gifted as liberal dems react so harshly when sarah is in the mix.why everyone knows no one can be as smart and gifted as liberal dem. they have the soloutions for all the worlds problems.i guess most of us in america can only dream about being as brillant as those magnifagent social engineers.this is what it sounds like from our houseWAAAAAH sarah spoke againWAAAAAH she knows this comie health care bill sucks WAAAAH how did she figure it out she is stupid.WAAAAAAHH your all a bunch of redneck nazi racists unamerican thugsWAAAAAAHHthank you very much

Note to Gingrich, Sarah, Rush, and the Brown Shirts at the town halls;
To paraphrase;
'Have you at last, no shame?'.

What I read between the lines, the people in Washington will not be content until they can be big brother to all America. They want to do this through everything, including the Health Plan.

This 'debate' is a perfect illustration of why the Fairness Doctrine needs to be reinstated.

Rebuttals to Hunnity, Blleckk, Rush and others need to be seen and heard on the actual outlet from which the dangerous lies are emanating.
The mentally challenged base is not going to go to another outlet to hear the opposing view. It needs to be directed at them from the 'mother hive'.

Didn't Glen Beck have some sort of mental breakdown, complete with incoherent babbling which he filmed and played on TV ?

He is nuts and dangerous, if not to others than to himself.

Sarah Palin just doesn't get it--the American voters realize that she was not able to handle the pressure of being Governor of the State of Alaska but she still thinks that she is spokesman for the Republican Party. This quitter from Wasilla is a loser--and the Republican Party will lose every election until she shuts up and lets someone with experience and knowledge speak for the Party. This media whore is a pitbull in lipstick--and the new color is sour grapes. Her father and father-in-law realize that they are more intelligent than this nutwing but they have no knowledge to offer Republicans who are running for office. Octomom is a step up from the Palins--but that doesn't mean that she is also qualified to run for elected office.

Why are we even listening to the Quitter from Wasilla who keeps "makin things up"? Why does she persist in dragging her family into this?
What is she hoping to gain by this? Sympathy?

Grannydoc,

outstanding.

It seems that the republicans have come full circle. Their "contract with America" to gain congessional control in the 90s has now become the "contract on America" to regain it. Ever since the republicans have begun to lose power, they have seen fit at every opportunity to lie, mislead, name call, and scare Americans. From the Obama is a terrorist pallin Muslum, to the socialist, marxist economy, and now the "death panel" healthcare. They have reved up the unintelligent, bigoted, and lied to the elderly. This is for political reasons only and has nothing to do with what is best for Americans.

"but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment,'' Palin writes.

She should know. Palin is certainly an expert in using those tactics.

Marthastew, I did not confuse Pelosi and her comments with Limbaugh regarding opponents of the Health Bill as being Un-American and Nazis. I am no fan of Sarah Palin but her statement that there should be some civil discourse in debating the Health Bill is a lot better than the divisive Pelosi who when confronted with a debate of the issues can only resort to name calling. I am an Independent and not a Republican as you said. The Democrats have a lot of good elected people and can do a lot better in selecting a Speaker that is so divisive. Pelosi is a disgrace.

The repugs are so scared of how successful this program will be, they have no choice but to rile up their ignorant base to create a distraction in a futile attempt to derail this important legislation.
