Is it possible that the public is warming to the idea of health-care reform? Researchers at the Kaiser Family Foundation say they have measured a shift in attitudes in a new Health Tracking Poll.
Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed said that tackling health-care reform is more important than ever, in a mid-September survey. That is up from 53 percent who said so in August.
The share of people who think their families would be better off with passage of health-care legislation has climbed to 42 percent - still no groundswell of optimism there, but higher than the 36 percent who voiced confidence in August. The share who say the country would be better off, however, has broken the surface: 53 percent, up from 45.
Despite this, 47 percent still say they favor taking more time to hammer out a bipartisan approach to health reform, compared to 42 percent who would prefer to see the Democrats in Congress move more swiftly on their own.
Yet a strong majority - 68 percent - say they are "hopeful'' about reform, while 50 percent allow they are "anxious.'' Just 31 percent are "angry'' about reform - and we've heard from them over the summer.
"Opinion in the coming months is hard to predict, but as the focus shifted from the town halls and hot button issues to the president, the Congress and the core issues in the legislation that affect people the most, the summer downturn in support was largely erased," Kaiser President and CEO Drew Altman said in a statement.
The uptick in opinion has come largely among Republicans and independents, the foundation's researchers found.
While 49 percent of the Republicans surveyed say their family would be worse off if health reform passes, that is down from 61 in August. The percentage of independents saying they would be worse off fell from 36 percent in August to 26 percent this month.
Democrats remain overwhelmingly in favor of tackling health care now (77 percent, while most Republicans say we cannot afford to do so (63 percent). Independents are divided (51in favor, 44 opposed).
The survey was designed and analyzed by public opinion researchers at the Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-profit foundation based in Menlo Park, Calif., and was conducted Sept. 11-18. The survey of 1,203 adults carries a possible margin of error of 3 percentage points.
For more on the survey, see the Kaiser poll.

I hope they pass something that will help. The premiums for my daughter alone are killing us.
We tried to get more reasonable rates through the state but by the time we got all the paperwork turned in that they require to qualify, the rates shot up to the same rate we are already paying. It took more than six months to go through all the hoops they have. People who think illegals are getting free care have never tried to get it themselves.
Health reform now!

The key to health care reform is the cost.
If it requires higher taxes on almost everyone then those pushing it will pay a political cost.
The claims of saving money by cutting waste, fraud and abuse are claims that politicians have made for over 30 years regarding government programs and when it comes time to cut the lobbyists come out of the woodwork.
Higher taxes, higher fees, penalities, etc. will doom this ambitious plan and those who are pushing it.

Nice spin Silva! Of course we want reform, we just don't want a goverment takeover (public option) forced on us and we don't want to be "Fined" or jailed when we don't purchase the goverment plan. Most of the polls that ask if people want the public option are more against than for, especially more so since august.

Of course, they are warming, if the Healthcare policies haven't, already left them cold. 30,000-40,000 Americans a year, die needlessly, because they don't have the means to medical attention. Meanwhile the Healthcare Corporations, any one among the many, are fleecing and killing innocent citizens, in the wealthiest nation in the world. Wake up, America, it is later than you think ! Healthcare for everyone.

As usual, Mark Silva doesn't tell the whole story or picks and chooses what he wants to report. For instance, just yesterday a Rasmussen Poll showed that 57 percent were against ObamaCare.
Most Americans, even those against so-called ObamaCare, believe there needs to be come kind of health care reform. But, Mark, most polls also show that about 80 to 85 percent of Americans LIKE THEIR health coverage. I know I do. But most Americans do not want another government program.

One should never underestimate the willingness of Swamp reporters to search out obscure polls in order to push their pro-Obama agenda.
In this instance, the article cites one Drew Altman of the Kaiser Foundation, but hides the fact that Mr. Altman, a former Carter administration official, is a longtime Dem Party moneybags with on-the-record contributions to the DNC, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and Obama. (it took about 1 minute on the net to find this out) This fact would call into question the poll's credibility, so (by an amazing coincidence) it was left out.
Meanwhile, the more-credible Rasmussen Poll shows that public support for ObamaCare is at an all-time low. See www.rasmussenreports.com for the numbers the White House and the Swamp want to hide.

Mark, another great misleading Obama poll. The real point is that American ain't buying what the Dems. and Obama are selling as "reform". They know it ain't reform, but just Obama and his Democract pals getting the power to control a major part of our lives. Don't you listen to Rush and Fox? Heck, most of America is! And now, we being informed and all, we are going to take back our country from these lefties and socialists. Ignore us at your peril!! Oh, how you going to explain Obama's failed payoff to the mayor when Rio gets the games? Will that be a hit on his poll numbers? Better start thinking that one ahead, since it appears to be the most pressing decision "the decider" has to make while our troops are fighting and await help, as "the decider's" latest review of the review of the war that he has been reviewing and telling us for years our strategy was and is wrong and Bush is wrong and it is the most "just" and important war we face, and was high time we got serious about our commitment there. At least that was what he told us he had decided some time ago, but then again a great decider may decided to change his decision after he change his decision when he reviewed that decision to make that decision. Whew!

Americans warming up? Really? The most recent Rasmussen poll that shows 56% disapproval and only 41% approval of current efforts to make health-care reform happen. These are the lowest numbers yet from Rasmussen. Doesn't sound like a thaw to me.

Saith Don:
Rasmussen really mustn't, confuse the electorate with its Republican-Libertarian bias. For we know, Rasmussen's pants are on fire and his nose....! Well, I think you know where that sentence is going. Rasmussen is a hack, an organ-grinder and that makes, " Disinterested Observer ", his " assistant ", one of our evolutionary ancestors !! Get on with the show !!

Don, it sounds like you're attacking the messenger without actually addressing the substance of his message. If you believe Rasmussen's results are biased, why not explain the deficiencies in his polling methodology instead of resorting to ad hominem attacks? In other words, what is the evidence to support your characterization of this widely respected pollster?

Don, no spin, but fact: Rasmussen Polling has been spot on It was right on the money in the 2004 election numbers, 2006 election numbers and the 2008 election numbers. Rasmussen is an INDEPENDENT pollster with no biases, which is why the Left does not like him. He is not a Loony Left tool.

Polls, schmolls. They depend on who is doing the asking and how the questions are skewed. I just want something affordable for all on the table. BTW NO ONE will FORCE anyone to change unless your employer decides to be the bad guy and drop coverage. Coverage is a benefit a business offers to get the best and brightest employees. Why in the world would they discontinue such a benefit? That would be detrimental to a business, not a good thing.
