The Swamp

by Mark Silva

The author of a children's book, I Am Barack Obama, says she wasn't responsible for the Obama song sung by young children in Burlington Township, N.J.

Charisse Carney-Nunes says she was invited to Bernice Young Elementary School by the Burlington Township School District "because of her status as an award-winning children's book author,'' a spokeswoman says today.

"Charisse presented all of her books, including her recent book I Am Barack Obama, a book capturing the example of President Obama to highlight children's personal power to change the world.

"Charisse did not write, create, teach or lead the song about President Obama in the video,'' the spokeswoman says. "The song was presented to her by a teacher and students as a demonstration of a project that the children had previously put together.''

When a video of the kids singing last winter hit the Internet recently (see it above), the superintendent of schools in Burlington Township issued a swift apology.

"Barack Hussein Obama,'' the schoolchildren sang. "Mmmm... mmmm... mmmm....Hooray Mr. President, we're really proud of you,'' they chimed. "He said that all must lend a hand, to make this country strong again.''

"The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country,'' superintendent Christopher Manno wrote. "Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.''

Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin has reported that the video was posted by Carney-Nunes, senior vice president of The Jamestown Project and "a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was a schoolmate of President Obama."

Carney-Nunes has previously said that she is not answering questions about the video. The writer's spokeswoman, Kharma Finley-Wallace, of HoverFly Media, did say today: "Charisse feels it is unfortunate that an event put together with sincere intentions to encourage literacy while celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our great nation has been become political fodder, and hopes cooler heads will prevail.''

Gov't education at its worse:

You must be the missing link, " Terry ". You are never at a loss for a link. You must have gotten cuffed one too many times, when you were coming up. As LBJ noted about Gerald Ford, the last of the good Republican Presidents: He played, without his helmut, for far too long !! Is that what happened to you, " Terry " !! You got cuffed, one too many times, and now all you can think of, are links !!? I hope and pray that you find that missing link, other wise you will be one link short of pair !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

So, Republicans are on the rhetorical warpath because a group of schoolchildren were taught to sing a song that made a glowing reference to the president. "Indoctrination!" they cried. "Brainwashing!" they screamed. AM Hate radio and Drudge buzzed about it for days on end. It's all so very shameful that one can't help but slowly shake one's head while furrowing one's unibrow at the whole sorry spectacle of our impressionable youth musically lauding the leader of the free world.

But please note that such outrage can only be directed at the scary black Democrat who forged his birth certificate...not the benevolent white Republican (Bush) who saved New Orleans from the hurricane. Because this is America, dammit. And we have the finest double standards in the world.

I wonder if the little children (not to mention the union teachers) will sing his praises when they read (assuming they can) this article:

TrickleDown Terri,

Bush had more "czars" than any President and one of them was named KKKarl Rove.

Try again...

This kerfuffle over kids singing the subversive words, "Hooray Mr. President we're really proud of you...He said we must all lend a hand to make the country strong again" is even more ridiculous than the stink raised over Obama telling school kids to work hard and stay in school.

FITZ,

So you support BO's "Safe School Czar's" actions in this case? Your silence says it all. Go back to sleep in the city dump truck under the viaduct.

Trickled On,

Eight months in office versus eight years. Give BO a little time and he will accumulated more Czars than a Russian history book.

Terry,
Were you just as concerned with Messiah Rush's - Barrack the Magic Negro song? I heard it indoctrinated hordes of trailer park residents into the Republican party.

I new it! Tihs is an oBama plot ta indoctunite our scool kidz an kill granny!

Carl rove gave me GOP duck tape and coolaide to protect against oBama indoctorination, an ya all schould get sum to!

Yawn.....more fake outrage from the Repugs....

Wingnuts have no nadir because they have no level at all. The Right is defined by being in a perpetual state of moral and intellectual freefall, always straining toward some ultimate perfection of evil.

The main problem is that the Whackjobs on the Right do not want children to look up to this President (Obama) as a hero. There are three reasons for this, they're embarrassed about Shrub Jr, and Obama is a Democrat and he's a BLACK man.

I found the information in Terry's link to be very disturbing. I haven't seen anyone here yet dispute it. If you can, please do so. I would feel much better knowing this is not true about a man in this position.

And pd, The Magic Negro was from an article in the LA Times by a liberal writer.

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-ehrenstein19mar19,0,3391015.story

Limbaugh simply parodied it. Geez, how many times do we have to go over these things?

The "country first" vitriol has now brought us this tid bit:

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Secret Service is investigating an online survey that asked whether people thought President Barack Obama should be assassinated, officials said Monday.

Good work great Americans!

The Dems protested Bush for things that he DID, the Repugs are protesting Obama for things that he MIGHT do.

Way to go Terri, you're carrying the flag for the dumber than brick low IQ goobers (you) who make up the Repug base again.

Actually, out here in the real world, it has been "disputed".

As with most Wingnut fiction, it hasn't only been disputed, it's been mocked and laughed at.

Kathy, It was a joke. Singing a song does not indoctrinate you to anything. Otherwise America would be full of devil worshipers because millions listened to Black Sabbath and other heavy metal bands in the 70s. The fake outrage by Talk Radio is meant to pull in more overly anxious listeners. Why do you think half of their commercials are for buying gold? Investing directly in gold is one of the worst investments you could make. Only the seller makes any money. And of course the shows host.

This is right out of the nutty Right Wing Lunatic Fringes playbook (Drudge, Malkin etc).

If it were not for obnoxious, overbearing, Wingnuts intimidating families and co-workers the Repukelicans would not have a party at all. And they know this, just listen to their mega-millionnaire turd tossers like Rush Blimpbaugh and Faux Noise Channel.

bill R- nothing new here...and you are part of the problem in trying to politicize an extreme view.

When hate, threats and anger were directed towards Bush ( see attached) they were dismissed as coming from the fringe left wing- and not to be considered part of the "legitimate" anti- bush crowd...

Now- the same stupidity is being framed as mainstream conservatism ?? What a joke..

This is a great clip that was overlayed on an "interview" conducted by Rachel Maddow on Obama's network- the irony is almost funny if it weren't so sad.

Peedee,

First, the song you refer to was song by an adult who does parodies for a living and was not song by a kindergarten class.

Second, the term "magic negro" as referred to BO was coined by a LA Times columnist, David Ehrenstein, who happens to be black.

Billy,

Very disturbing. Do you know who did this?

Troglodyte Terri,
So because the song was written by a black man, that automatically gives Druggy Rush a free pass to smear President Obama with it and then pretend that he isn't the rich doughy white guy racist that he (Limbaugh) is?

I think that's called 'blackwashing', Terri

All you loons are counting the number of Bush's czars and attack the messenger - talk radio, but miss the underlying fact that the crime of stautory rape was commited on one of Mr. Kevin Jennings' students.

Trickled On,

I don't think done of Bush's czars were a teacher that did not report a sex crime on one of their students.

K,

Teresa's point isn't the number of czars, but what the czar did not do in his previous career of teacher - not report a sex crime perpetrated on one of his students.

The media has largely been quiet about this Bush assassination movie. I knew from the moment i saw this post, many in the left would be gleeful about the movie and dispense their hatred toward the president. Sadly, many lefters proved my assumptions correct.
Posted by: John D | September 3, 2006 11:53 PM

the author included things like how to kill him, where to kill him and basically celebrated the assassination of the president.

This is more proof the derangement of some element on the left. I can't wait to see the smartass comments from John E., Raving Loon, etheryang, Janet, John F, Jack and others.

Posted by: John D | September 1, 2006 1:08 PM

this only put ideas into the minds of those who are mentally unstable, it gives them ideas and shows them how and what to do.
We have enough violence in out world without showing the crazies how to commit the crime...

I wish that a few people had the guts to actually stand up for our President. The out of control network news and biased liberal newspapers and magazines are the cause of the divide in this country. They hate Bush.
Posted by: Suzy | September 1, 2006 3:59 PM

He was president, is a human being, a father a husband, etc. Same as Bush. But the left is so full of hate. And it's pretty easy to tell that some of these, certainly not all of the Bush haters, but some of them really would celebrate a Bush assassination.

What spin?

"Charisse feels it is unfortunate that an event put together with sincere intentions to encourage literacy while celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our great nation has been become political fodder, and hopes cooler heads will prevail.''

Other than defeat Hillary thanks to false charges of Racism, and then defeat a 2nd rate elderly Senator, what exactly has President Obama done?

He has traveled the world apologizing for white Americas past acts.

Memor to all you Barak supporters - He is 50% White, so White Americans have the right to dislike him without having to base their opinion on racism.

When President Obama actually does great things there will be time enough to teach the children to sing his praises. As of now it is not appropriate.

I HOPE that posters here decide to CHANGE their idolatry to reality.

By the way heartburn, according to the SS, death threats on Obama are 400% higher than Bush. But by all means don't denounce that, denounce me. Some would say those that deny reality are "part of the problem".

K, I don't know what you're talking about. I was asking about Kevin Jennings, the subject of Teresa's link. And again, I'm not Teresa.

And pd, you switch gears when you don't like the answers you get. And I wouldn't think of arguing about the kid's videos with you. Anyone who doesn't immediately sense what's wrong, never will. Arguing with you about it would be an effort in futility.

Ahhhh, the ignorant loons on the Left continue to show just how completely stupid they are.
In regard to Barack the Magic Negro, the song is a parody of the LA Times column by David Ehrenstein, who called Obama the Magic Negro as part of the media's deification of the Obimbo one.

Bill r., while I do not condone that ridiculous facebook poll on whether Obama should be assassinated (and who knows if it was an Obama supporter or not who created that poll), where was the outrage when there was a movie about assassinating Bush? Or a book about assassinating Bush? Those things were defended by the Left as free speech or just a movie or book. No big deal.

Getting to this Swamp item: I don't care who is president (Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Palin, Jindal, whomever), teachers teaching kids to sing praises of the president is wrong. It is what they do in North Korea, China, Venezuela, Nazi Germany, Soviet Union. It is wrong and it is indoctrination. Keep politics out of the classroom.

Then John D....I'm sure you and the right are outraged at the song and praise of children in N.O. in 2006 to Bush, and FEMA? Here are the words they sang. I will await your outrage.

Our country's stood beside us People have sent us aid. Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade. Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!

Also John D.......take a look at the Oct.2006 thread on that movie. You will see that while many said free speech, in their next breath they denounced it. As you can see...I posted 2 of your "reactions" to it.

Kathy, You are correct. There is no need to argue. I do not believe that signing a song in school will indoctrinate you to a certain view. Developing a view on a person or subject is much more complex than singing one song. What do you think about Christian prayers in school? Does that indoctrinate a Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist or other religions into Christianity? If you are so worried about this one sogn, you should be very concerned about prayer in school.

By the way heartburn, according to the SS, death threats on Obama are 400% higher than Bush. But by all means don't denounce that, denounce me. Some would say those that deny reality are "part of the problem".

Posted by: bill r. | September 29, 2009 8:03 AM

bill r- any threat against a president is and should be denounced---(duh) your avoiding the issue.

The media ( and you) are trying to spin the threats on Obama as coming from the mainstream right wing - if the threat were increased by 400%, or 4000% that does not make them mainstream views it only says that there are more stupid people that make threats against the president.

BTW- I believe the 400% increase is a measurement of the increase in threats against Obama now vs Obama after inauguration.. not a comparison to increased threats compared to Bush-

Every criticism of Obama is not based on racism- and nut jobs that threaten the president do so based on their psychosis not their political views.

Every criticism of Obama is not based on racism- and nut jobs that threaten the president do so based on their psychosis not their political views.

Posted by: heartburn | September 29, 2009 12:01 PM

Certainly if threats have increased 400% over Bush (not since inauguration), there is something driving this hate. While I agree that racism is a small % of the hate, the reason "I" talk about it is "somebody" has to. Those on the right will not. I don't see any of your posts denouncing Beck talking about Obama's "secret negro army" or falsly claiming Van Jones was arrested at the LA riots or that healthcare are reparations. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who these remarks are aimed at. Rush talks of to much "multi-culturalism" and out pops springfield parroting him......as if springfield was decendent of native Indians. If the small number of the 400% are racists, then the others are whipped up by the politics which drive their psychosis. You can only tell the "borderline" whacko's who is to fear and blame for their problems so many times before they crack. While you fear what labels are put on mainstream right wing, I certainly don't hear calls for level heads to prevail. Unless you don't find the fact that a 400% increase in death threats a large concern. Frankly, it sounds more than fringe.

Ps....Heartburn....according to SS...there are 30 death threats each day.

Trickled On,

Get your facts straight, the song wasn't written by a black man. It was written by a satirist based upon an article by a black journalist.

I find it interesting you give the teacher that let a sexual predator go, but you are worried about a song
