Fear of "big changes'' and the growing role of government - but not racial prejudice - are behind much of the heated criticism that the White House faces, President Barack Obama said during a television network-sweeping series of interviews today that will air Sunday in an unparalleled presidential bid to use the airwaves and cable news to promote his health-care plans.
As excerpts of the Obama interviews aired this evening reveal, the president is confronting much more than health-care in the personal talks that will dominate the Sunday morning news shows.
Obama said in one interview with CBS News that, despite skepticism about the inevitability of increasing taxes to support the health-care overhaul he is seeking, he will not accept any sort of reform that imposes new taxes on the middle class - people making less than $250,000 a year - according to CBS.
In a number of interviews that will air in fuller form Sunday morning, the president also addressed the tone of a heated summer debate over health-care, and the contention of one former president that much of the criticism Obama faces is because he is black.
Some of the most heated opposition to the president's initiatives are not racially motivated, Obama suggested in response to comments that former President Jimmy Carter had made earlier this week, but rather reflective of the turmoil that is common "when presidents are trying to bring about big changes.''
"Are there people out there who don't like me because of race? - I'm sure there are,'' Obama told CNN's John King. "That's not the overriding issue here.''
Instead, Obama maintained, it is concern about sweeping government change that has fueled much of the "passion.''
"It's an argument that's gone on for the history of this republic,'' Obama told NBC News' David Gregory. "Wbat's the role of government?... This is not a new argument, and it always invokes passions.''
The president's comments are part of a marathon series of news interviews, part of an administration media-blitz to promote the president's push for an overhaul of health-care insurance.
In an unprecedented monopoly of the Sunday morning news shows for a sitting president, longer reports of Obama's interviews will air Sunday morning on ABC News' This Week , CBS News' Face the Nation, NBC News' Meet the Press, CNN's State of the Union and also on the Spanish-language Univision network.
The president addressed everything from health-care legislation to U.S. troop deployments in Afghanistan and the government's handling of the swine flu to the heated controversy generated by summer protests of some of his initiatives.
Obama was asked about Carter's comments earlier this week that the most extreme criticism for Obama comes from people who cannot accept the fact that the president is an African American.
"Look, I said during the campaign, 'Are there some people who still think through the prism of race when it comes to evaluating me or my candidacy?' Absolutely,'' Obama told NBC News, in an excerpt aired tonight. "Sometimes they vote against me for that reason, sometimes they vote for me for that reason.''
"I think there are people who are anti-government,'' the president told CNN. "There's been a long-standing debate in this country that is usually that much more fierce during times of transition, or when presidents are trying to bring about big changes.''
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was called a Communist for his New Deal initiatives, Obama said, and some of the things that were said about Ronald Reagan "were pretty vicious as well.''
Obama was asked by ABC's George Stephanopoulos if it frustrates him when his own supporters "see racism when you don't think it exists.''
"Look, I think that race is such a volatile issue in this society, always has been that it becomes hard for people to separate out race being a sort of part of the backdrop of American society versus race being a predominant factor in any given debate,'' Obama said, in an excerpt aired Friday night.
"And what I've said, when we talked during the campaign, are there some people who don't like me because of my race?'' he said. "I'm sure there are. Are there some people who voted for me only because of my race? There are probably some of those too.
"The overwhelming part of the American population, I think, is right now following this debate and they are trying to figure out, is this gonna help me,'' Obama told Stephanopoulos. "Now there are some who are, setting aside the issue of race, actually I think are more passionate about the idea of whether government can do anything right. And I think that that's probably the biggest driver of some of the vitriol."
In an interview with CBS News' Bob Schieffer, Obama addressed the harsh tone of the health-care debate, in a week when the House admonished a Republican member, Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, for accusing the president of lying about his plans.
"I think that what's driving passions right now is that health care has become a proxy for a broader set of issues about how much government should be involved in our economy,'' Obama told Schieffer . "We can be civil here, we can address (each other) acknowledging that we are all Americans, we are all patriots...
"What's different today is that the 24 hour news cycle'' promotes controversy, the president said. "They focus on the most extreme arguments on both sides... It's catnip... The easiest way to get 15 minutes of fame is to be rude to somebody.''
Obama's media-blitz, which gets underway at 9 am EDT on Sunday, is certain to fuel another 24-hour cycle of commentary on reaction the 24/7 networks, which ultimately is what the White House is seeking with the president's public pitch.

Comments
BHO is trying to smooth this out. He doesn't want it to become about race.
I can see why. An actual discussion about white hatred of black Americans, esp. a black president will slow down and distract from the important work he faces.
I can understand this position.
However; Jimmy is right. As a white, Anglo Saxon, Waspy American I am privy to the rants and raving of other white Americans when 'none of them' are around. These people are so shallow, clueless and unimaginative that they assume I am a 'won't say it' hater just like them.
A word of advice to minority Americans of any description, and women; Don't take anything for granted. A good 30% of white America are hard core racists, and 20 percent more are borderline.

We are already drifting off subject; That being the Baucus Caucus disaster.
This cat turd of a bill will cost EVERYONE more money, except of course, the private health insurers. Their profits will skyrocket.
I listened in disbelief as Baucus recited his lines on this awful measure as if it were just the best we could possibly hope for.
Weak leadership led to this stinking pile of 'workmanship'. Reid and Obama should have had this empty suit negotiating with the liberal wing of the Democratic party, not the Republicans. (Note to the Dems.; Those are the people trying to destroy you.)
If the actual Democrats had been consulted, we may have had a small net gain instead of this private insurers wet dream.
No controls on age related premium increases. No real, robust public option, no limits on co-pays, deductibles, etc.
If a bill passes in any form resembling this puker, the Dems. are out. They will have proved incapable of recognizing the historic opportunity handed to them in 06 and 08. Then the destruction will start in earnest.
Get online and let Pill, Reid, BHO and your reps. know that this will simply not do.

Obama and the Dems do the playing of the race card so well.When some additional support is needed , someone , this time ex-awful-President Carter comes up with the assertion that if you don't agree with Obama you're racist.This is just like the election when if you wouldn't vote for Obama you're racist. Then Obama appears, the race card being played and benefitted from,to say the action was not racist.Thus, Obama appears to be above the fray , taking the high ground , when the race card benefit has already been realized! Very slick , but how many times will this trick be used?

Baloney slicing again. Not fear of drastic or big changes; Obama, Americans are fed up with the WRONG changes and dangerous changes. Get a clue. Stop talking for 5 minutes and try listening. Can Obama go one day without giving us a pontificating speech? Good God, he loves to hear himself talk, that's for certain.

This is the responsible thing for the president to say. No matter what the truth on the ground is, Obama needs to shy away from the race issue, even if only for the sake of selling reform.

Well somebody certainly needs to talk about race. It surely wouldn't be the republicans. You praise Beck and his kind while he is running his show on Obama's "secret negro army" or healthcare is reparations or the lie that Van Jones was arrested in the LA riots. Who in the world do you think he is playing to? Do the republicans reject his rhetoric.....no they embrace it. So who is going to say it? It certainly isn't the right. Come on down south where I live...get a good helpin of that racism that doesn't exist. You'll either join them, or it will turn your stomach.....my guess?.........................

If Republicans want to argue that the birther, Kenyan, Muslim, un-American, monkey, witchdoctor attacks against President Obama, made by the elected and unelected arms of the Republican Party, have anything to do with policy disagreements then let him try make that laughable case. But they can take their fake outrage and straw man arguments about being called out on it and shove it.
Posted by: U Lost - deal with it | September 18, 2009 11:24 PM
The President is absolutely right. There are people who don't like Obama because of his race, but this is a controversial issue just as it was when the Clintons were in office.
To the haters out there that constantly attack White Americans for being racist: You're behind the times. Black Americans are far more racist than White Americans these days.

FREEDOM WORKS (a big money health insurance corporate lobbyist group) and FAUX (a fake news outlet) are the one's who have stoked the Teabaggers and they've created most of the hate against President Obama. The right never does anything for people, they do things to people.
The hilarious part about all of this nonsense is how they manage to get all of those low and middle income Republican simpletons to go along with them and go out and protest against their own well being.
Without Freedom Works and Faux, does anyone seriously believe that all of those doughy middle aged white guys would be out shouting down health care town halls and marching on DC with misspelled Teabagger signs?

ATTENTION!! Congress Has The Votes Needed To Pass A Public Option - TODAY http://bit.ly/TCq7O
Why A Strong Public Option Is Essential - By jacksmith - Working Class
Robert Reich explains the pubic option: http://bit.ly/dDYSJ http://robertreich.blogspot.com/
John Garamendi on the Public Option and the Grassroots: http://bit.ly/TJMty
It's not just because more than two thirds of the American people want a single payer health care system. And if they cant have a single payer system 77% of all Americans want a strong government-run public option on day one (86% of democrats, 75% of independents, and 72% republicans). Basically everyone.
It's not just because according to a new AARP POLL: 86 percent of seniors want universal healthcare security for All, including 93% of Democrats, 87% of Independents, and 78% of Republicans. With 79% of seniors supporting creating a new strong Government-run public option plan, available immediately. Including 89% of Democrats, 80% of Independents, and 61% of Republicans, STUNNING!!
It's not just because it will lower cost. Because a strong public option will dramatically lower cost for everyone. And dramatically improved the quality of care everyone receives in America and around the World. Rich, middle class, and poor a like.
It's not just because it will save trillions of dollars and prevent the needless deaths of millions more of YOU, caused by a rush to profit by the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!
It's not just because every expert in every field, including economist, and Nobel laureates all agree that free market based healthcare systems don't work. Never have and never will. The US has the only truly free market based healthcare system in the World. And as you all know now, IT IS A DISASTER!
It's not just because providing or denying medically necessary care for profit motivations is wrong. Because it is WRONG! It's professionally, ethically, and morally REPUGNANT!, Animalistic, VILE and EVIL.
THE REASON THE PUBLIC OPTION IS ESSENTIAL:
The public option is ESSENTIAL because over 200 million of you are trapped in the forest of the wolves. Which is the forest of the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX! With no way out except through needless inhumane suffering, and DEATH. While the wolves tear at your flesh, and rip you limb from lib. Then feast on your lifeless bodies like a dead carcase for transplant parts.
At the most vulnerable times of your lives (when you were sick and hurting), millions of you have had to fight and loose cruel, but heroic battles. Fighting against the big guns of the DISGRACEFUL, GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT MEDICAL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX! in the forest of the wolves. All because you have no place else to go. You have no other CHOICE!
But the PUBLIC OPTION will give you someplace safe to go. And it will give us someplace safe to take you. The public option will be your refugium (your refuge). Where the wolves cannot get at you when your down, hurting, and vulnerable. Where everyone who needs it can find rest, security, comfort and the care they need. Protected by the BIG GUNS of We The People Of The United States. THE MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE AND COUNTRY ON EARTH.
This is why it is so critical that we do not lead another 50 million vulnerable, uninsured Americans into the forest of the wolves, without the protections of a Strong Government-run public option. We The People Of The United States MUST NOT LET THAT HAPPEN to any more of our fellow Americans. If healthcare reform does not contain a strong public option on day one. YOU MUST! KILL IT. Or you will do far more harm than good. And millions more will die needlessly. Rich, middle class, and poor a like.
To those who would continue to obstruct good and true healthcare reform for the American people, and who seek to trap millions more vulnerable Americans in the forest of the wolves. We will continue to fight you. We are prepared to wage all out war against you, and will eagerly DESTROY! you. Time...is...UP! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! No Co-op's! No Triggers! NO INDIVIDUAL MANDATES! without a Strong public option on day one.
Healthcare reform can be the GREATEST! Accomplishment of our time and century. A time when future generations may say of us, that we were all, AMERICAS GREATEST GENERATIONS.
BUT WE MUST ACT!
I therefore call on all my fellow Americans and the peoples of the World. To join us in this fight so that we may finish becoming the better America that we aspire to be for everyone.
SPREAD THE WORD!
I have been privileged to be witness as many of you fought, and struggled to take your first breath, and your last breath on this earth. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Life is precious.
Whatever the cost. WE! MUST SUCCEED.
God Bless You My Fellow Human Beings

LOL, Obama the Unqualified is so out of touch with his party members it is unbelieveable. It is they who bring up the race card not the opponents. It is not change that the conservatives are attacking, it is the incompentence of his plans that are being attacked. For they are very poorly lade out, and not very thoroughly thought out for long term consequences.

Republicans elected and supported a guy (Bush) who may go down in history as the worst president ever. Bush has a horrible track record... and the Republicans know that, and it embarrasses them. When they look at what Bush did to the country, and know that they put him in office and supported him, they feel pretty stupid. I mean, seriously, if you'd been a Bush-booster and got that kind of result, wouldn't you have to think, "Jeez, maybe I'm stupid and have incredibly poor judgement and shouldn't be trusted to pick our leaders anymore"? So, because of that humiliation, they want to force Obama to fail. That way, they won't have to be the only stupid people in the country... or, so they think.
Also, they saw the protests against Bush, and now they want "their turn," even if they have to trump up ridiculous things to get it. The main difference is, Democrats protested Bush for things he'd done. Republicans are protesting Obama for fantasies about what they think he might do (thanks to idiots like Glenn Beck and Limbaugh who feed them their daily dose of stupid).
The next time we have a Republican President I'm going to start ripping that guy the minute he takes the oath office. I'm going to rip him every day, every chance I get, about everything from the clothes he wears (fascist uniform?) to the amount of food he eats during a typical day (stealing from the middle class and poor?) etc. And believe me, the next Repug Pres will be a doughy white guy because the cretins who make up todays Repug party see white people as being the superior race.
The Repugs are creating their own bad karma right now.

Bottom line; No matter how many times Obama (count is up to 124) appears on the tube and lays out his disingenuous, lawyer-speak, marginally factual taking points on these charades that the Dems. are proposing as healthcare improvements or deficit neutral cost savings for healthcare, the math just does not add up. Furthermore, folks see right through his "reassuring" talking points because they have read,studied, and most understand the actual language of these bills, which, with in depth dissection, reveal that his "reassurance" is just the same ole', hollow obfuscating double-speak that is unsupported by the facts. We also know that Sunday's peripheral and now mostly fringe, so called "major news show" are nothing more than Obama fluff pieces. He avoids Fox because he and his WH propaganda machine realize that his healthcare policy, as well as his other economic distortions of recovery, will be exposed and debunked by fair and balanced, in depth, factually accurate and probing questions and follow up from a real journalists like Chris Wallace. Folks know this (mainly independents) and wonder why and when one sees avoidance, they smell BS. He would be better off teeing it up or maybe attending a spiritual religious gathering, which he has appears to have forgotten altogether. As to this racist nonsense, folks know that when this crops up, the liberals have lost the debate on facts and substance and thus trot out their hail mary standby once again. Problem is, it has been used to often, rather loosely with the facts, and quite frankly, falsely. Thus it has lost its effectiveness and luster in stifling opposition and folks are simply tired of hearing it.

"I think, is right now following this debate and they are trying to figure out, is this gonna help me"

Bubba Alabama there is a very big difference between a Social Security System and building roads and police and fire or a military the fact that you put them all together tells me you do not know the difference of why. Plus this Representative Repubic we live in has used difference ideas from different points of view for the 200+ years WE as a nation have been around. Lets stick to the issues okay? First in 1935 Social Security was formed and since that time every Pres and every political party and has every penny put into SS it is broke, okay. If the money had been left in it WE as a country would be rich beyond our wildest dreams. 2nd Medicare was created in '65 that just happened to be the same year that the cost of health care started to climb, a coinadence of course. Plus in '65 the cost of Medicare was projected to be just $8 billion by 1990. Well the real cost was $68 billion. Now both SS and Medicare are near bankruptcy thanks to the way OUR government runs things, so just why do you think this Gov can run a Gov Ins without costing us trillions and trillions of dollars. I mean just what has OUR Gov done to make you believe that? Also Mr. Morris if you truly believe what you wrote I take it you are in no way a bigot towards anyone are you. Besides if you believe what you wrote how did The Pres get voted into Office? Hatred from the Left is no different than Hatred from the right. God Bless You and I truly mean that.

CM,
"I am privy to the rants and raving of other white Americans when 'none of them' are around. These people are so shallow, clueless and unimaginative that they assume I am a 'won't say it' hater just like them." - They say you can judge a person by who they associate with. You have some real interesting acquaintances.
BTW, I never hear anyone say "I don't like this health care plan becuase its being proposed by a black president". Suppose for an instance that John Edwards, someone who's views are very similar to BO, was president. Do you think the same reaction would be going on through out the country. I'll say 99% - YES. It's not about race. Race has been drummed up because the left is losing the battle of ideas in the public arena.
Bubba,
Do I have to pay for all of those things I use? I would gladly opt out of Social Security and keep the $13,000/ yr that I pay into the system. Why dioes the gov't fund Sesame Street? This just shows the waste of our money. The internet - a great DoD invention, but never reached its potential until it was turned over to the private sector.

Some of the worst racial slurs I've ever heard came from the Democrats agains the likes of Condi Rice. Why? Because she happened to be a Republican. It's like if you even DARE be a conservative, you're branded as the worst type of person alive! On the other side is the Liberals/Dems who use the race card as often as possible. Well, folks, it isn't working any more. In fact, it's blowing up in your face, just like the "You lie!" statement by Wilson. Once people got past the lack of decorum that outburst represented, they found that Obama was indeed not telling the truth. And like about everything else, it is destroying his presidency, which is good. His goal (and particularly those he has surrounded himself with) is to destroy the America that is the beacon of freedom to the rest of the world in exchange for a socialist society that suppresses freedom and innovation. We need to get rid of him. And while the Times calls Glenn Beck a "Mad Man", what Glenn says is correct: I've been following those organizations he's delving into for decades and they're not in line with American values. No, they want to completely transform society, and not for the better. Check it out if you have the nerve.

Leftist need to break down the society
The healthcare bill is just another redistribution scheme. It's intent is to solidify statist centralized and collectivized power. That is why the Left irrationally pushes for socialized medicine and is trying to jettison the best healthcare system in the world.
Obama knows that if they can succeed with installation of socialized medicine, there is likely to be a general demoralization, weakening of opposition, and breakdown of the society, which would play into a larger plan to further remake the society to the liking of Marxism. Breaking down the traditions, culture, and dynamism of the free capitalist based society is necessary before further progress along the march to an unchallengeable complete centralized collectivized society is possible.

The Right Wing of the Republican Party loves injecting race into every issue so that they can look like victims - it is the game they play. Who else would compare Joe Wilson's outburst with Kanye West and Serena Williams? Who else would show a tape of a fight on a school bus and claim it to be racially motivated? Who else would ask whether a gang rape that never occurred in New York city was a hate crime? It's the right wing. These people obsess about race because they want to goad Obama into talking about it and then cry victim. They are always ready to find reverse racism so as to claim that real racism does not exist. http://www.stupidrightwingers.com

It's not race, but it is not really change, per se, either. It is about Barack Obama being a power mad control freak who, rather than being elected President of the United States, seems to be of the view that he was installed as King or Emperor of the United States.

Hey Troglodyte Terri,
Social Secuity and Medicare funding will be fine as long as we can keep future Repug adminstrations from cutting funding and giving more to their Military Industrial Complex cronies, like Bu$hco did the last eight years.
If the gov't can't run anything then why are all of those Right Health Insurance lobbyists doing eveything they possibly can to kill health care reform? I thought trickledown free market cowboys loved competition?
If Social Security and Medicare are so bad why don't the Repugs run against it and promise to get rid of it? Go ahead, I dare you.

Nope, they came up with that mavericky name all by themselves.
They just didn't know.
Here are some other conservative organs that have popped up recently.
1. The 'Dirt Roaders' -
A group dedicated to bulldozing new roads in the National Parks and wilderness areas.
2. The 'Back Door Ladies and Laddies'
A group that plans to secretly infiltrate the Democratic party and destroy it from within.
3. The 'Hummer Guys'
A group that wants to promote the ownership of huge gas guzzlers.
4. The 'Golden Shower of Rights Women'
A group who's main purpose is to educate people on the golden river of rights our constitution protects.
5. The Reach-around Revolution;
A group that plans to reach out to other even more right wing groups, like conservative Republicans.

Trickled On Anti John E,
In 1937, Social Security started out with a 2% tax on the employee's first $3,000 of income. Now we are up to 12.4% of an employee's first $106,800. So what was a $60/yr tax has now become $13,243/yr tax. In other words, the dollar value of that tax is 220 times larger than when it started.
Medicare started as a .7% of an employee's first $6,600 of income. Now the rate is 2.90% on an unlimited amount of an employee's income.
Why is that - because the gov't underestimated the cost of the program, just as they do with all programs. What makes you think this will be different? This won't cost a trillion per year - do the math and at least double or triple.
As far as the cutting Soc Security and Medicare - I would look at BO before you throw stones like a girl.
As far as competition, there are 1300 health insuarnce companies - all that has to be done is remove the state reguolations and let them compete against each other. There doesn't need to be an 1301st competitor that pays no cost of capital, pays no taxes, and pays no profit.
I believe President Bush did try to privatize Soc Security in 2005-06, but didn't have the political capital to do it.
Back to mom and dad's basement.

Two questions. (I) When can a white person criticize
It was predicted two years ago by many people when Obama first declared that he is running for president that any criticism of him would be considered racist. Then it started happening in the primaries. Everytime someone criticized Obama, it was because of racism. It got so bad that I began to feel sorry for Hillary even though I despise her. Even though I'm conservative I was assuming she would be elected president so I was hoping Obama would get the nomination assuming he would be elected president if he did
Well it got worse during the general election. Almost everytime Obams was criticized, it was because of racism. Now it's even 100 times worse.
Remember, Clinton was criticized as much or more the Obama when he was elected and the left just tore into Bush.
Posted by: stooge | September 19, 2009 5:25 PM
I have never seen the following addressed:
Two questions: (1) What are the rules for when and how a white person can criticize Obama and who make the rules.
(2) When is criticism of Obama not considered racist?
Please anybody, explain these rules to me.
Let's say for the sake of argument that 10% of criticism is based on racism but mines not. Does that mean I can't criticize?
Do I have to prove it's not based on racism and how do I do that. A better assumption is the criticism is not based on racsim until proved otherwise.
Also, I always here the term "code words". Well I have never seen the code book so I wouldn't know what they are.

The phony morality and race-baiting of the elites is breath-taking in its narcissm. Most white libs could give a damn about black people, and black people know it. The great irony is that the more the left flip the race card the harder it will be for black candidates to succeed in winning political office. Why? Because most Americans are fair-minded but the racist label stings no matter how untrue it is. Fair-minded white Americans may just say, the hell with it, I ain't voting this way again, its too painful for me and my country.

Don't be fooled by this conspiracy between Obama, Carter and the Democrats. Because the Democrats have branded any opposition to Obama as racist, they need a way out of this hole. Enter Carter who Obama orders to cry racism. Now Obama, The Benevolent, can pretend he's offended by Carter's comments and defend his opponents, hoping they will see him as a Savior once again. Beware, they're savy.

Obama is right; change is at the heart of the discontent, but its not just change, its change for the worse. The arguments have been poor and ambiguous at best, and I will NOT take Obama seriously until he can take the heat by arguing his points on a less cuddly network than the ones he is going on. Skip fox? Why? If I were him I would dive into the fire instead of running away. If you believe it what you are selling and can back up your points, there is no downside to going on fox. For all the left wing haters that never watch fox, think about this, he will get a fair shake and if he doesn't who will be the first to cry? NBC, NY Times, ABC, CBS, etc. The only reason he is not on Fox the number one cable news and basically one, if not the largest news outlet in this country, is because he has a poor argument that is the only thing I can see. Obama is smart, but he is not so good with debate and knowing the facts and with the policies he has put forth, he simply must be unable to argue them properly. Everyone knows Bush was not a great communicator, and was attacked over everything he did by a liberal press, but he still went on all the networks and wasn't afraid. The only thing I can decipher from Obama is that he cannot handle decent and is unable to properly argue his positions, which seems typical for the left as of late.

I have grown very, very weary of trying to prove that there really is an 800 pound gorilla in the room called Republican racism. It is so overt that it surprises me that our "leaders" have not addressed it.
Glenn Beckkk, Lush Rimbutt, O'LIElly, and that group have whipped up the GOPer racists and the bigots in this country to a violent, hysterical tone. They don't care that people carry guns to Obama events. They don't care that people have signs calling OUR PRESIDENT a socialist or a Nazi, and much, much worse. They don't care that people say racist things about OUR PRESIDENT.
I am so distressed by this that I can't watch the news anymore. It hurts me, makes me angry, and makes me realize that the hope I had that this country was changing, slowly, but changing, have been dashed by the knuckledraggers, racists, bigots, and other idiots who make up the GOP.
I am shocked that our leaders have not come forth and taken positions against this. Why? Because they feel and believe the same way. OUR PRESIDENT has no protection other than those of us who put him where he is. WE have to have his back. WE have to address racism wherever we see it, hear it, read it, or smell it. WE HAVE TO!

President Obama can't make this case...it is up to all political persuasions of white Americans to get into the faces of their mothers, fathers, sisters brothers and grandparents and let them know that this is UNACCEPTABLE behavior. No more standing around and sucking it up and saying under our breath and dismissing it as just old crazy right wing XXX. This behavior is damaging our country and our children. Democrats need to stop paying attention to what some closet or openly racist Republicans may or may not think of President Carter's statement.
95%+ of the problems President Barack Obama is dealing with is because of the political and financial disaster George W. Bush left for him.

I see we have the boys and girls of the Republican-Libertarian taking lessons from each other, on how to distort, how to dissemble and of course, how to lie !! Everyone of them, to a child, knows that the Dynamic Duo, they so intelligently selected to be our....President, Bush&Cheney, were losers, with their multi-deferral background !! No, they had to distract, character-assassinate and lie, lie and lie some more, in order to smuggle such depraved characters into the Offices of our Executive Branch !! Did they disappoint us, in their incompetence, in their malfeasance ? Not at all, it was a catastrophe waiting to happen and happen it did. The beauty of this Republican-Libertarian picture, in all of its depravity is, it has all been recorded. So, lie they will and as we all can see, their lies are feeble and ridiculous. That will not stop them, they have no alternative but to continue to lie. They have nothing to offer America, but another version of Bush&Cheney and I think America will be very tired of that mentality for a long while.
That is why, we the people, elected President Obama and Vice-President Biden, to lead this good nation, in spite of the likes of the Bush&Cheney fringe !!

It isn't the outrageously radical czars president Obama has appointed to overlay preexisting cabinet-level departments that exist to deal with the same issues;
or the racist, sexist Supreme Court Justice he got confirmed;
or the government take-over of our banking industry;
or his public subornation of the bankruptcy laws of the US;
or his castigation of private financial industry manager bonuses while ignoring larger bonuses to Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac managers;
or his public extortion of the Hedge Fund managers;
or the uncompensated grant of Chrysler to a foreign manufacturer;
or the un-Constitutional distribution of GM to the UAW (who just happened to endorse his candidacy for president);
or the doubling of the money supply since January;
or the ready acquiescence to allow Congress to add $150 Billion in pork to the $780 Billion political support payback bill (that had to be passed without examination-even though most of the spending is delayed until just before mid-term elections);
or the grossly undeserved condemnations of America at every foreign stop;
or his embrace of every communist leader in the world;
or his support for Cap and Trade that accomplishes nothing more than driving America out of business;
or because his fiscal policies are bankrupting America;
or that he supports the idiotic plan of having the Fed print worthless currency to finance the national debt;
or his public bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia;
or his connection with, and financial support of, ACORN;
or his demands for a universal healthcare bill to be passed without reading it (although none of it’s provisions take effect until 2013 (after the next presidential election);
or his attempt to take over the Census (clearly an Article I responsibility);
or his grotesque misrepresentation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights;
or his outrageous characterization of Americans clinging to their guns and religion because of their disappointment and fear of people that don't look like them;
or even the fact that virtually every single pronouncement, policy, program promoted by the president is un-Constitutional;
or that he permits his party leadership to characterize loyal opposition and veterans as thugs, Nazis, or right wing terrorists;
and it isn't even because his official actions are diametrically opposed to everything he promised about open and transparent government.
Let's be honest, none of these could possibly be justification for objecting to the president; it is simply because he eats arugula

A Token WHAT?!?
That's right -- you ain't racist. So long as the black man joins the party and votes how he is TOLD like a good BOY -- he doesn't have to worry about you and your ilk calling him a Token N*****R!!!
And Mr. C. Morris?
When you say ... "These people are so shallow, clueless and unimaginative that they assume I am a 'won't say it' hater just like them."
So -- how many of your friends did you call to the carpet for chuckling over the pictures of Condi Rice as Aunt Jemima? Or Colin Powell as Uncle Tom?
How many of them have you pointed out that when they imply that Michael Steele is a *TOKEN* -- they are as bad of bigots and WORSE than the ones you say are unimaginative and clueless because THEY AND YOU have no CLUE that you are being Racist, vile, bigoted pigs for such behavior.
And implying that the ONLY way a black person doesn't get to be called a N*****R, Uncle Tom, or Aunt Jemima is to join the party YOU tell them to. Not get UPPITY and join the Republicans ...
THAT is getting a clue fool!

@ Keith Barron,
So Republicans have a few token black people in the party....so what?!?!
You want a bozo button or something?
As much as elected Republicans may try to hide their bigoted and racist attacks on President Obama by letting other Wingnuts fling the mud (Glenn Beckkk Gingrich, Limbaugh, Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs etc), that distinction isn't going to be made by Latinos and Black people watching on the sidelines. They know who pulls the strings in the modern GOP, and the nastier they behave, the more they'll lose a demographic (Latino) that is projected to be 30 percent of the American population in 2050.
Without young voters or Latinos and Black people, the GOP can't win. They've done a fantastic job of alienating the former with their opposition to equality, and they're about to finish off the latter courtesy of their racism towards President Obama.
Considering that the Census Bureau expects the nation to be only 46 percent non-Hispanic, single-race white in 2050, the GOP's continued shoddy treatment of people who aren't angry old white guys like "President" Newt or Boss Limbaugh is only solidifying their journey toward fringe status.

Who doesn't want affordable healthcare? What planet are you from? Do you really want the system that we have now? Don't you understand that healthcare costs is eating up a big chunk of our economy and a good portion of our jobs as we sit here with our thumbs up our you know whats? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. (Affordable healthcare being your nose and Democrats being (in) your face!) What a bunch of tards! If it's not bigotry, then it's just plain stupidity. Which is it? Bigot or idiot? Or maybe a little of both? Do you hate the Dems that much that you will sacrifice your self? How about your child? Maybe your miscreant does deserve it but don't let your foolishness affect the rest of us. Perhaps going and meditating on the subject for a little longer than the time you take to jerk off, might shed a little light into that dark and deprave cave you call your mind. If the Repugs are not racist then why are you all so freaking white? Do you think we're blind or just stupid? Just be freaking men about it and call a spade a spade! There's racism everywhere and in all parties, in all police districts, and in all families, for God's sake! Get it out and, perhaps, we then can all deal with it honestly and openly. Our country will suffer as long as you continue to weave your web of deception. You'll be calling everyone else "race baiters" when all you need to do is look in the mirror and call yourself "racist." Go ahead and try it. I am a racist. I was raised to be a racist. My parents are racists. My teachers are racists. My friends are racists. I live in a racist country. There, start with that. I can live with that over all this sickening pretense of decorum when there's mostly none. What a ship of fools, truly. May god bless us all! (not just Americans!!!)

Of course, that was your job and I say, you aren't very good at it. Dissemblance, anyone !!? Unfortunately, your stupidity has outdistanced your " cleverness " !!

Trickled On,
It would have been great if Soc Security had been privatized since over any 40 year period, th DJIA has never been below 6%. This next part is math so I'll type slow for you - 6% is greater than 2% (the ROI for SOCSec). I would love to be putting my 12.4% Soc Secutity contribution into the market this past spring whne the DJIA was below 7000.
CM,
At the Fortune 500 Company I work for, there are plenty of libs there. I think you make a mistake saying all the "racist" at your company were conservatives.

We are truly a divided people, who agree or disagree along party, ethnic, racial and religious lines. Much like the priests of centuries past, no decision can be made without first consulting our appointed political or social leaders. We take sides with differing factions within our country, arguing about single issues that are presented to us and whose sole purpose is to divide us into isolated groups. Instead of meaningful debate about the future of our nation, we receive only distractions. We thirst for truth, meaning, and freedom, but instead find ourselves wandering through the desert of distraction and confusion. We seek leaders, but only receive figureheads. We have ceased being Americans. We are conservatives or liberals. We are environmentalists or corporate interests, Catholics or Protestants, black or white. The people of America are divided among many lines, ultimately under the confines of a system of right and left. Much like the German people of the 1930s, we are isolated from clear perspective. Much like the beleaguered Celts, we are so distracted by civil war of right and left, we aren't aware of our country vanishing before our eyes. The truth is, there is no right or left. There is only right and wrong. The New World Order (one world government) that GHW Bush had prophesied in his infamous eerie speech on 9/11/1990 continues it's quest towards tyranny.

Terry,
Ditto the companies I worked for. Yes there were libs. there, me included.
But the proudest racists were self declared Rush Limbaugh conservatives.
Sorry, but if it quacks like a duck....
True, that doesn't mean all conservatives are racists. But the sad truth is, not one of the liberals I knew professed any inside, secret racist attitudes. It was always the cons.

CM,
Some of the most racist comments I ever heard are from those long-time democratic supports - union membership.
Posted by: Terry | September 20, 2009 8:24 PM
Obviously, you don't travel in the country club set. They would add a word or two to your collection, on that subject. Your one of those hangers-on, that grovels for whatever the unions were able to wrest from the owner-mangers !! Incapable of fighting for what is right, you fight for what is wrong with America !! Maybe in the years to come, you will understand the errors of yours, and the Bush&Cheney fringe's, ways !!

FITZ,
When you make a comment on here, try to be more specific instead of stating "You".
BTW,
How's BO doing about bringing those troops home - only 8 more months until the troops are out of Iraq?

T,
Well, yes. I worked in factories in younger days. Bulletin: Lot's of union members are conservatives. Once again; Not all conservatives, union or otherwise, are racists, but golly gee whiz whenever you would hear a nasty comment it was coming from the angry white guy.

CM,
The union guys I talked about - racial slur in one sentence, how great the democrtaic party is in the next.
Not all nasty comments would come from "the angry white guy". I hear them from "the angry black guy", "the angry hispanic guy", etc...
Racism and dicrimination cuts through all political spectrums.

Terry,
Except the ABG and the AHG didn't colonize and enslave the entire globe for 3 centuries of Euro/American colonialism.
I include the European Spanish in that formula.
The poor folks we refer to as 'illegals' are Mexicans of the native peoples of the region. Those are the people so many Americans hate; The ones picking their fruit and vegetables in the heat of the day.
There is almost no group less grateful, or more complacent than conservative white Americans. I know, because as stated above, I hear what they say.

Let's go back 400 years and find the excuse.
"There is almost no group less grateful, or more complacent than conservative white Americans" ARE YOU KIDDING? There is nothing worse than the whiny limo liberal who trashes everything this country has given him but enjoys the fruits of this country's freedom and liberty.
