Obama's approval turns Northward again: The Swamp

The president's slide in the Gallup Poll has abated, at least for a few days.

President Barack Obama may not have turned the tables of the health-care debate in Congress with his address to a joint session last week, but he apparently has turned, at least for a few days, his sliding public approval ratings.

The Gallup Poll's daily tracking today showed 53 percent of those survyed voicing approval for the president's job performance. That's up 2 percentage points from the day, Wednesday, that he delivered his speech to Congress before a national television audience.

Two points may not amount to much -- indeed it's within the 3 percentage point margin of error in these tracking polls. But it represents a turnaround from what was happening in the weeks before the speech, when Obama's approval dropped to 50, an all-term low by Gallup's measure, and plateaued at 51 percentage points for a few days.

Indeed, if the president's approval had dipped below 50 after the speech -- even by one point -- we and plenty of other observers would be taking note of that. Obama has risked slipping below 50 more swiftly than most presidents since Gallup started polling after World War II. But for now, at least -- with the first full reading of a three-day average after the president's speech -- his numbers have turned in a different direction.

The president's approval rating peaked at 69 percent in the weeks after his inauguration. His latest disapproval rating, as measured during the past few days of Gallup's tracking -- 40 percent -- also is down slightly from the peak disapproval of 44 percent reached a week ago...

The Republican party can beat their chests and drag their knuckles over the ups and downs of Pres Obama's appoval ratings all they want, but the Republican parties own approval rating hasn't changed at all since Obama took office, it's still in the toilet. People still hate the Republican party more than they ever have, and for good reason.

Funny thing. I was watching well over a million or more "GOPer townhall screamers" all across the country holding massive rallies including one in Washington, and no where did I see failure in any of their faces.

What I did see is fed up anger in government intervention in their lives, and I saw people saying enough is enough.

But no where did I see the kind of "phony astroturfed Fear-mongering" that the previous idiot in desperate need of a village was refering to.

Maybe he was too busy listening to the "phony astroturfed Fear-mongering" that has become the stock and trade of the screeching heads on MSNBC to notice.

Gallup never asked me!

If stupid was a commodity Republicans would have the market cornered. I can remember 9/12/2001 and my tv-machine wasn't filled with yapping racists that were bitching about their taxes.

Why is it that people like Crazy Glenn Beck get to co-opt this tragedy when they have previously stated that they hate 9/11 victims? What are we going to see next, the Anne Coulter memorial to 9/11 survivors?

Surreal doesn't even begin to describe these idiots.

O's ratings go up 2% and you silly libs get that gimpy feeling. Wait three days and he's in the dumper where he should be. The hammer and sickle administration is headed by a hack.

Oh boy, 53%, there's something to be proud of.

I guess 53% is something to be proud of. That's what he got in the election, with virtually all the media shilling for him, vs. the media's favorite Republican, and he thinks that is a mandate to wreck the entire country and try to rig things to have a dem majority forever.

I hope the Republican wins the election in 2012 by a similar amount and tells the libs, "Stick it, I won, and anyone who disagrees with me is a liar."

Hey 'gthong61' who's "the republican wins the election in 2012"? Does he have a name? He can't be an intelligent Moderate Conservative because you wing-nuts have kicked all of them out. So who's the "wing-nut candidate" that's going to appeal to a majority of the country? I'll wait--I know you have to check with Rush and Beck. While I'm waiting do you want to discuss all those Black and Hispanic republicans at the D.C. march yesterday?

I've never seen so many people in a comment section energetically demand government enslavement and ridicule those who don't. Sad commentary on the times.

"I guess 53% is something to be proud of."

Yeah, lots better than GWB's 30%.

It's the inevitable result of the bad behavior of the Grand Olde Donner Party.

HUH???!!!

"and he thinks that is a mandate to wreck the entire country and try to rig things to have a dem majority forever." gthog

And you know nothing of the 'K Street' project and Rove's plan for a permanent Republican majority?

No wonder America is now 30% T-Baggers, Barfers, and Town Hall Brown-shirts.

""Stick it, I won, and anyone who disagrees with me is a liar."

Some say that would have been GWB talking.

I hate to say I tole ya so...

So I'll just remind ya of Kenry Hissinger's observation of a few weeks back:

"Obama plays chess......."

Don't ever make the mistake of thinking you are playing checkers with him.

These posts are exactly what Obama is talking about. We should agree to disagree without the name calling playground antics. He really would like to have an intelligent conversation about the issues.

"The Gallup Poll's daily tracking today showed 53 percent of those survyed voicing approval for the president's job performance. That's up 2 percentage points from the day, Wednesday, that he delivered his speech to Congress before a national television audience."

oops! The bus from Crazytown goes off the cliff again.

But we KNOW it's really Obama, Axelrod or someone like that.
.
You can rest assured that there will be no serious bipartisan discussion on this issue because this country is way too polarized. I haven’t seen it this polarized since the Vietnam war.
.
You also have to know that you aren’t going to get the single-payer system you want, and that the Dems in Congress are going to screw us all over by chasing us into the arms of the insurance industry on THEIR terms. We didn’t have adult leadership under Duh’bya, and the November election didn’t change this situation in the least.

Why is everyone scared of Universal Healthcare? Everyone is saying that it will lead to communism. It probably would if we decided to throw away the constitution. This a democratic nation, it is impossible to revert to such ideology. Obama is on the right track but its going to be a while before Americans with their chips on their shoulders allow something like this to happen.
