Pat Buchanan wrote speeches for President Richard Nixon.
Buchanan ran for president, as a Republican.
And when he fell short of the GOP's nomination in 2000, Buchanan ran with the Reform Party.
And when Palm Beach County, Florida, printed its 2000 ballots in a "butterfly'' configuration, thousands of elderly, Democratic leaning voters cast their ballots for Buchanan - clearly confused balloting: A Miami Herald analysis found that voters in Palm Beach County were "100 times more likely than those elsewhere in South Florida'' in picking both Democrat Al Gore and the Reform Party's Buchanan.
And Florida, by a disputed 537 votes, gave the White House to George W. Bush.
So where is Buchanan today?
Not only on Morning Joe, at MSNBC.
But also, as he said today, on air, in President Barack Obama's corner: The president is making all the right moves on Iran and has had a pretty good week, he said, which caught Mika Brezinski's attention.
"I'm an Obama man,'' Buchanan said with a laugh.

Silva,
Second reference today about the 2000 election and how AlGore had the presidency "stolen" from him? Get over it. If Gore had served an 8 year term (which I highly would have doubted), you might be looking at President Liberman today - you loons still wouldn't be happy.

"stolen" from him...

There you go again, making ASSumptions.
I don't see anywhere in this post that Mark says ''Stolen''

Who knows....maybe Gore would have "read" the memo saying Bin Laden to attack US.

Quit crying Terri,
Your beloved Wingnuts not only stole the 2000 election, they stole the 2004 election too.

Not surprisingly, the Neocon warmongers at Faux Noise Channel are trying to trump up a war with Iran.

Billy r.
B.J. Clinton had 8-12 chances to take out Binladen during his eight year term and failed. Instead of shooting at Binladen, he chose to shoot at a blue dress, while 9/11 was being planned for three years under his nose.
No binladen = No memo.

That's like getting kissed by Darth Vader or Bush&Cheney !! I wouldn't wish that on, say, Ms Palin, because, for her, it would be like her kissing her cousins, who probably live in Russia !!

Scottie,
Pretty safe assumption assumption when it comes to dealing with flatliners - See Trickled On Anti John E below.
BillyR,
Gore had his 8 years in the VP office, not much done on the terrorism front. I don't think another 8 months would have helped him

Posted by: Terry | September 28, 2009 3:09 PM Can you please point to the section in the Constitution of the United States says that the Vice President has a responsibility for National Security? My version only states that the Vice President is the President of the Senate and only votes in tie break situations.

So what's the death count in Afghanistan today Don?
I believe I read at least seven US soldiers killed over the weekend so what's the tally since Obama's swearing in???

My My....what happened to "Bush isn't the president anymore"? Let's not stop there, let's go back to Reagan and him feeding Afghanistan's Islamic resistance with billions of dollars worth of arms, or maybe for his lack of a response to the Marine barracks attack.

CC,
Than I guess 8 years of being VP really is no training for being president then?
Maybe you need to check your version of the constitution - I believe there is a part to serve as president in the event that the president is unable to perform his duties. Assuming I am correct on this, I would think that a VP would need to be up to date on issues such as bin Laden.
Can you quote a source that says that Gore disagreed with Clinton's handing of bin Laden and/or al Qaeda?

Paulo,
Buch/Cheney/Rumsfeld had almost a year to take out Bin Laden after the election. I guess you give them a pass. They also had the best opportunity of all to kill Bin Laden in Tora Bora and failed miserably. That must have been Clinton's fault.

Hey Pablo,
Again, so why was it that Shrub Jr. and The Dick Cheney blew off going after Bin Laden (dead or alive!) in Afghanistan to trump up a war with Iraq?

Sure right after you point to any tangible pre9/11 actions which show the Bush Administration was going to handle Al-Qaeda any differently than the Clinton Adminsitration in order to prevent terror on US soil.
Posted by: Case Closed | September 28, 2009 5:55 PM
CC,
The Clinton administration and the MSM did not even consider al Qaeda important - note the fact that the issue wasn't even discussed in the 200 Bush-Gore debates.
If the Clinton Adminstration had made al Qaeda an issue in their daily press briefings, the MSM would have made this an issue and thus would have been discussed.
The Clinton Administration, and thus ALGore, just kept punting terrorism down the road.

As much as you might agree
with some of the 'stated' views
of 'Populist/Conservative' Pat
---DEEPLY BEWARE!
FACT IS ---these days Pat's
very, very much playing de facto frontman and apologist
for our decades long biz-nihilist
sellout and fold down to history's --MOST-- awesomely
genocidal regime ---ACROSS the Pacific (70 million exterminated decades AFTER
WWII --in 'peacetime').
Catch how he's forever tut-tutting the horrific status quo
-scandalously downsizing death tolls ---or minimizes and dismisses tensions on the Korean penninsula while millions continue to suffer and die in silence.
"The Americans came just like
a whore, all dressed up and knocking at our back door--"

-Pat was there!
----and Pat's STILL there!
AGAIN ---DON'T trust the deeply tainted Buchanan on
reading East Asian reality
and policy.
