Bush 41: Olbermann, Maddow 'sick pups': The Swamp
The Swamp

The MSBNC commentators had a few things to say about that tonight.

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

It was in the course of discussing how uncivil political and media discourse have become lately - with "the cables'' and all - that former President George H.W. Bush called the evening commentators on MSNBC - Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow - "sick puppies.''

Bush, who played host to President Barack Obama at a "Points of Light'' celebration in Texas today, sat for a CBS News radio interview in which he voiced dismay about the tone of the national discourse that Obama faces.

"I don't like it,'' Bush said. "The cables have a lot to do with it... Its not just the right.... There are plenty of people on the left."

The former president singled out Olbermann and Maddow as "sick puppies,'' saying: "the way they treat my son and anyone who's opposed to their point of view is just horrible... When our son was president they just hammered him mercilessly, and I think obscenely a lot of the time, and now it's moved to a new president."

The tenor of the harshest criticism lately "should not be par for the course,'' Bush said. "To the degree it turns off one student or one person from serving, that's bad."

Bush does not accept the argument that Obama faces a lot of criticism that is racially motivated - "You might find some racists out there,'' he said, "but I don't think the attacks per se have to do that he's an African American.''

But the criticism which the president faces "sometimes crosses the lines of civility,'' the former president said. "People ought to be civil. I worry about yelling at people and this yelling mentality that seems to accompany presidents."

Maddow and Olbermann had a few things to say tonight about the former president's characterization. (See her above, and hear him too.)

"The former president... volunteered his own theory on where the breakdown in civil discourse is coming from,'' said Maddow. "Why is the former president calling me and Keith Olbermann sick puppies? I honestly don't know.''

Olbermann got on the phone line, too.

"We're very grateful that the former president is concerned about our health,'' Olbermann said. "it's easy to miss the irony here. What he's complaining about in terms of personalized complaint about other politicians, he's the father of it... He's the man who employed Roger Ailes... It's very ironic to hear George H.W. Bush from this lofty voice, and with I think real anger in his voice.... Just sort of ignoring the fact that, hey buddy, you're responsible for it...

"There's got to be some weird psychology going on in there,'' Olbermann said. "It's so, so strange for him to assail name-calling and then call us names.''

Well he could have, should have called you what you are: dumb asses.

Its over Maddow and Olbermann heads. See they think they are right no matter what. Let a democrat have sex with a pre-teen and its just a mistake in Maddow and Olbermann view. Let a republican have sex with someone their age but, not their wife and Maddow and Olbermann want to nail them to a cross.

President Bush (41) also should of used the word delusional when describing these two.
Maybe Jimma Carter will crawl out of his hole and call (41) a racist because Olbemann and Maddow carry the water for obama.

Paulo

It's Olbermann's irony that he invariably most closely resembles the things he claims to despise, more than any of his enemies.

Looks like Parkinson's is catching up with 41.

Not a nice disease for anyone to get.

However, in his case, one has to wonder whether 43's blocking stem cell research also blocked Parkinson's research.

Well, just another reason W stands for Worst President Ever.

Congrats Rach and KO! You might make it on the nightly news with GHWB's sound bite! (First, only and last time.)
By the way: "Pot," meet "Kettle."

More Repug hypocrisy...this time coming from the guy (Bush Sr) who gave us Roger Ailes, Lee Atwater and the Willie Horton ads.

I get it that Bush Sr is embarrassed by sonny boy W. (and who wouldn't be?) but spare us the hypocritical right wing crap.....sir.

"Do you see our man Ailes at all?"

Remember this?
.
http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/16713

Not knowing he was on the air, Bush Sr. asks Druggy Rush, "Do you see our man Ailes at all?"

Bush Sr. always gives me the Willies (Hortons). What a hypocrite.

Old man Bush lives in another world, in a timeless and tidy place where intelligent commentators, supermarket scanners and poor people simply do not exist.

I'm guessing some "genius"-level Republican friend advised Pappy to throw in a reference to Maddow and Olbermann, trying to imply that Hannity, Limbaugh and Beck are just the other side of one dirty coin.

Think about it. If Old Man Bush really wanted to attack Olbermann and Maddow, and had seen their shows, he could have called them sneaky villains or clever ideologues or anything else that made sense. But no one who has ever watched Keith or Rachel on the air would be tempted to call them "sick puppies," because that is just not a description that would come to mind. They are both obviously extremely smart, sane, healthy people.

As for Glenn Beck... well, that guy really is one sick... uh... person. Even Pappy Bush can see that. Even without seeing Beck stagger around, wave his arms and burst into tears on the air, he would know.

It must be nice to know so very little about the world. Think how much easier it would be to lie! But no, on second thought, the old man's ignorant nonsense is not even lying, just random blabber, coming from nowhere and going nowhere.

Bush I, just like Ronny Raygun before him and Shrub Jr after him, were the perfect Republican presidents, innocent of plans, ideas, morals. Their empty heads were always ready to be filled with every kind of hateful and scurrilous lie that a goon right wing operative (Atwater, Rove etc) could dream up.

So Bush Sr complains about todays civil discourse and then he points to the left? Ha Ha Ha Ha! I'm starting to see where W, got his stupid gene.

Did Bush Sr happen to mention by name any of the 100 times sicker "puppies" on the right? I am so damned sick of this phony false equivalence. There is NO ONE on the left who is equivalent to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck in even a tiny way. SO sorry to sound "partisan" (not) but the right has wrecked civil discourse all by itself and they are wrecking themselves in the process.

If you had a screw up son like "W" and you were in the position that GHWB was in, would you have permitted your son to become POTUS?

Bush Sr. knew what his son was. He knew his son's character. He knew his intellectual capacity.

He could have torpedoed the candidacy before it got off the ground. No one would have been the wiser.

If his son was a failure, it was a failure his father could have prevented.

It is sad that a person with foreknowledge would not love his country enough to prevent the damage "W" did.

All he had to do is intimate to the GOP that his son is not able or not trustworthy to the powers that be within the party. He didn't have to be specific, but in essence let it be known that his son was not presidential material. They would have believed him.

Beyond that he did not have to provide political or material help to his son's candidacy. He could have made it very difficult for his son to raise the money needed for a run.

Bush Sr did NOTHING, beyond breaking down and crying about the fact that "W" had screwed up Jebby's chances of ever being President after the fact.

"Sick Puppies"? This from a man (GHW Bush) who had clandestine CIA involvement back to at least the 60s

- Who participated in the treasonous October Surprise deal with Iran that betrayed our country's interests in order to get Reagan elected in 1880

- Who had his State Department underling, April Glaspie, give Saddam the go-ahead to attack Kuwait . . . so that he could later turn around and start a war with Iraq and kill hundreds of thousands of people.

- Who had a mistress in D.C. during the years he was VP.

- Who invaded Panama based on lies to take out one inconvenient dictator who was no longer of use to the U.S.

- Who did NOTHING while the economy went to shit back in 1990-92.

- Who helped cover up CIA wrongdoing once he became director of the CIA under Ford.

- Who was a horrible father to his son W (the proof is in how W turned out), and who was himself the son of a literal Nazi-assisting, elitist blue-blood SOB named Prescott.

- Who used his family political connections to have unflattering stories revealing his family members dirty dealings from ever coming to light.

- Who likely assisted, behind the scenes, in having Jeb throw the election for W in Florida during the 2000 election.

- Who pulled strings to have his son placed in the Texas Air National Guard so that he wouldn't have to go to Viet Nam.

And this guy has the audacity to call anyone else a "sick puppy" ?

The self-delusion and sense of superiority that the Republican ruling class have in this country is beyond words.

For those who weren't around at the time (or of voting age at least), now you know why Bush Sr. was only slightly better as a president than his idiot son was.

Two images come to mind: that photo op where he demonstrated his utter cluelessness when it came to an everyday supermarket checkout scanner; and the shot of him motoring around some bay on one of his many power boats. A real "man of the people" in the middle of a recession (1992).

To support what Bush41 is saying - just because you oppose BO's ideas, does not make you a racist

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28399.html

Talk about " sick puppies ", this is the same guy who raved about how " voodoo economics " with Ronnie Raygun, only to become the head witchdoctor, 8 years later. Thanks God, President Clinton was elected and we begin to break the silly cycle of " voodoo economics ", supply-side economics, indeed !! Unfortunately, it wasn't soon enough and, lo and behold, the Weasels of Wall Street, slink from the alleys, thanks to Bush&Cheney, with Paulson in the lead !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

I think Olbermann thinks he is a reporter, even Rush has not gone that far. And Rachel Madcow can not help using lies and then acting as if they were fact. But, all you really need to do is look at their ratings, how low can they go.

Lona,

I have 2 fave photos of the dynastic ones:

1. 41 and 43 (as a chubby little pre-Preppie with a little blue ribbon medal pinned to his Little Lord F suit lapel) on the occasion of the public stock offering of 41's oil company (reproduced in Yergin's THE PRIZE, book on the control of oil);

2. 41 and 43 riding around in their electric golf cart at Kennybunqueporte.

That "thousand points of light" rhetoric : I've always laughed at that line.

Volunteerism as the solution to all that ails America.

What a crock. (Or since it's the Bush Dynasty we're talking about, What a Croque.)

Have you noticed how well the Bush Rx of "volunteerism" has worked out for America?

[sound of a lone cricket chirping....]

I consider the following "sick puppies": Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Ed Schwartz, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.

They all are on the extremes of our country's political spectrum and they bend the truth to fit their poitical beliefs.

It is shameful that they are as prominent as they are!

Hey Ornery, I volunteer that you leave this country and go to where you would be most happy: Venezuela.
Olberidiot and Rachel Madcowdisease are sick puppies. They are angry, deceitful, unAmerican, racist, anti-people, anti-life, America-hating scum. And all their little, worthless followers like ornery, "John E or Dumb Dumb Janet," and the rest sould just leave this country and let us real Americans bring it back to life as the great country it has been and ought to be. Great American liberals like FDR, Henry Jackson, Harry Truman, John Kennedy, must be looking at the crud today that passes for liberalism and just shake their heads in anger and have tears running down their faces.
The Obamas, Clintons, Peloonies, Reids, Axelrods, Durbins, Schumers, Emanuels and most of the media are nothing but tools for communistic totalitarian thugs and mindsets. Civility, volunteerism, happiness will come to this land once these things are gone.

Hey Geographically Stupid Little Johnnie D, I volunteer that you leave this country and go to where you would be most happy: Communist Russia.
Druggie Rush and Crybaby Beck are sick puppies. They are angry, deceitful, unAmerican, racist, anti-people, anti-life, America-hating scum. And all their little, worthless followers like Inky, Paulo, Terry and the rest should just leave this country and let us real Americans bring it back to life as the great country it has been and ought to be. Great American conservatives like Barry Goldwater must be looking at the crud today that passes for conservatism and just shake their heads in anger and have tears running down their faces.

Can't speak about Maddow because I have never heard of her.

As far as Olbermann is concerned, when calling a woman “a mashed up bag of meat with lipstick ” is but one of many disgusting smears to escape his lips over the years maybe "sick puppy" is too kind.

Is that how he feels about any woman with whom he does not agree? Is that comment acceptable because the person to whom the quote was directed is a conservative?

As a woman, a mother and grandmother, I find it hard to believe my 2 month old granddaughter will grow up in a society where these comments are acceptable simply because of who says them..

"And Rachel Madcow can not help using lies and then acting as if they were fact."

When did Rachel Maddow lie? Specifically, date and time, and what exactly did she say? Methinks if we are going to catch her, this time we had BETTER have our facts straight!
And no straw men or circular logic, please...

Hobbled Bush 41 provides amusing fodder for those who vividly remember that of the "sick puppies" shown on cable television, it was the white, tea-party heathens who appeared to be the craziest of all. No other group was shown acting as deranged and savage as the white Republicans who attended the town halls. So when Bush speaks of "sick puppies," it's certainly not Rachel and Keith who come to mind.

I'm not surprised that GHW Bush is angry, embarrassed and lashing out. I would be too if my son was an assclown dry drunk idiot who ruined the Republican party and nearly destroyed the country.

Historically, geographically and politically challenged BC, there is no Communist Russia! It ceased being a communist country 18 years ago when the Soviet Union broke up. Where the heck have you been?
.
Your suggestions that Inky, Paulo, Terry and the like leave the country so that “real Americans” like you can “bring it back to life as the great country it has been and ought to be” is a laughable proposition at best. If the country had only “real Americans” like you, there would be nothing left but obsequious, dependent, blood-sucking leeches who would eventually drown in debt to pay for even more and greater welfare gimmes. Anyone with common sense and two quarters to rub together would bail out. If George Washington came back and saw what you “great Americans” are doing to his country, he would start puking and never stop.
.
I mean, seriously, don’t fool yourself any longer in believing that your party of “real Americans” has the answers to the problems we are in. Republicans probably don’t have many of the answers either; I will grant you that. But anyone with common sense can tell we are definitely going in the wrong direction under the leadership of the “real Americans” you so favor.
.
I am sure that you are right about what Barry Goldwater would think about the state of the Republican party today. However, he would be angrier at the Democrats than he was before he passed away.

Bircher Boy,
Yawn.....So are you suggesting that the "real 'Mericans" are you racist Ron Paulite rubes who stock up on gold nuggets, collect weapons and spend their time in the mountains of Idaho hiding out from the gov't black helicopters and the Smoking Man, whom they believe want's to take away their guns and tax them?....ha ha ha!

Your team had their chance Bircher Boy and for eight straight years you Repugnuts wet the bed. The least you can do is give Obama more than 10 months. Check back with us in 2016.

Wow, so now Ron Paul is a racist? I love it. The Moronic Left loves to throw those labels around when in reality it is the Left that is most racist and most bigoted. You idiots believe that the only way blacks and Hispanics can get anywhere in life is if they get government handouts. Without the government, they are nothing is what you believe. Sorry, but they can make it without the government. Course, when a minority is successful and wants to inspire that success to their own or promote conservative idiology and principles to get ahead in life, you Racist Muck-up on the Left then call those folks Uncle Tom and other names.
The reality is it is the Left that is racist and breeds racism.

Also, you go, John W!

Now for that fake "John D" at 1:28 pm. Get a life!

BC, hit the books and get a friggin education.
And, by the way, once again, please explain to everyone how you think Cuba is nowhere near the Gulf of Mexico and that its northwest coast doesn't border the Gulf? Please show everyone how incredibly ignorant you are and that you are nothing but an ignorant mascot for the Left. Please do.

JOhn D,

You should know by now, when the flatliners cannot when an arguement based on facts and their backs are up against the wall, out comes "RACIST". They have no thought process, just name calling.

When I channel surf through Rush and Friends I feel uncomfortable with some of the things said, it doesn't sit right in my mind, but when I channel surf through Olberman and Rachel I get a sinking feeling, like you want to vomit. I can understand the sick puppies thing because you'd expect more from people who are clean cut and smart. Sometimes it does have a vile tone. Maybe the way they talk into the camera freaks me out. Rachel anyone? It's like you expect her to assault someone. 41 must have forgotten how TheNYT was treated by his own son, his administration, some party members (Congressional resolution anyone), and their media cohorts. Treason comes to mind?

Dear Dead-End JohnEEEE-Boy,
.
I am not a racist and I am not a Bircher. Where you got the idea I was into racism - or any of the other BS you are spewing - is beyond me. Seems like the old rumor about electric Kool-Aid is true for you even if it isn’t true for any of you other lefties. I will refer you again to the National Libertarian Party web page so that you can educate yourself (if that is possible) as to what my particular views are. They don’t involve an obsession for collecting weapons or hiding from anything, much less helicopters. (Actually, that’s very funny. The asylum inmates are trying to tell the sane ones that they are the crazies. That’s precious.)
.
And I must also correct your loony thinking in another regard: The Republican Party is not my team. I WAS a Republican. I changed parties because I couldn’t stand the Republicans’ big government and big spending ways, their warmongering foreign policy, and their unconstitutional/extra-constitutional methods of operation both inside and outside the country. On the other hand, the fact that I have left the Republican Party doesn’t mean I have changed my position on small-government, fiscal responsibility and accountability, or strict adherence to constitutional limitations (none of which Democrats or Republicans do very well.) You see, I believe in FREEDOM. Unlike you, I am not willing to simply lie down and let the all consuming, enslaving STATE to tell me what to do, or how to live my life. You can end up on Obama’s plantation if you like. You have the correct slave mentality to take those kinds of orders from a government while eating at its trough (you loser). But that’s just not me.

John W Bircher Boy,
*Yawn*....and take Lil' Johnny DittoHead with you.

The only thing Republicans hate more than minorities is being called racists.

John D I'll (it will make me sick) check her show Monday and then I can post a new one from her show. I stopped watching shows like that, and that means the ones on CNN, MSNBC, FNC, ABC, NBC, and CBS.
But, one that does come to mind was her using something said on SNL as if it was a fact.

I just look up a few thing Rachel Madcow as said on her show. Like: Bush + Hitler = funny but Obama + Hitler = hate, racism. You tell me is she just lying to herself or to her viewers also?

And lets not forget her lies about Acorn.

Do you even watch any of the shows? I no long do, once the market closes I no long need the likes of CNBC, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, FNC, FBC, ABC, or CNN. And after a 4pm CDT they are not really reporting the news but, after reading a lot of the posts here I see a lot of people can not tell.

News Letter,

He who lives in glass houses...

"You cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian Accent."
-Senator Joe Biden

Mahatma Gandhi "ran a gas station down in Saint Louis."

-Senator Hillary Clinton

"Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart? Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza? Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars?"

-- Left-wing radio host Neil Rogers

Blacks and Hispanics are "too busy eating watermelons and tacos" to learn how to read and write." -- Mike Wallace, CBS News.

(On Clarence Thomas) "A handkerchief-head, chicken-and-biscuit-eating Uncle Tom." -- Spike Lee

"He's married to a white woman. He wants to be white. He wants a colorless society. He has no ethnic pride. He doesn't want to be black."

-- California State Senator Diane Watson's on Ward Connerly's interracial marriage

Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

-- Former Klansman and current US Senator Robert Byrd,

"I'll have those n*ggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years."

-- Lyndon B. Johnson

"When Stan Greenberg and fellow Democratic researchers launched a study of the conservative Republican world's reaction to President Obama, he figured they'd find ample evidence of racism.

They didn't. Not at all.

"Race just wasn't brought up," said a surprised Greenberg on a conference call with reporters Friday. He said that the focus groups were given as much time to talk about race as they could possibly need.

"If there was any kind of a racial element, we thought we'd pick it up. We didn't," said James Carville, who also worked on the report.

And when asked who spoke for the Republican Party, the answer was overwhelmingly: Fox News.

The study was done by Democracy Corps and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and was also authored by Karl Agne and Jim Gerstein.

What drives the GOP base, rather than race, was a genuine belief that Obama has a "secret agenda" to drive the country in a socialist direction, said the authors. These voters want more opposition, not more cooperation."

Huffington Reporting

****Democrats hate facts so much, they don't even like the ones they come up with. Buh-bye race card.****

"Instead of focusing on these intense ideological divisions, the press and elites continue to look for a racial element that drives these voters' beliefs -- but they need to get over it," the authors write.

Thanks for proving that you're no more a Libertarian than former President Bush. You've promoted the Republican line in this web site for many months now, and you continually get all huffy when called on it. I want to improve health care for all Americans, something the Republicans refuse to let happen. Yet because of this you want to kick me out of the country. So why don't you go over to Putin's Russia where you and your political views will fit in just fine.

You’re an ignorant goof. Libertarians, entirely apart from Republicans, are at odds with the American welfare state. To most normal, intelligent people, the fact that we agree with Republicans on a small handful of issues wouldn’t obscure the glaring differences between the two parties. But not you. Oh, no. You have to put everyone into the same corner just because they are demonstrably opposed to your way of thinking, and regardless of why they oppose you. It’s a phenomenon known as ‘binary stupidity.’
.
We Libertarians are opposed to elective wars or the use of non-defensive force. That’s more than either the Democrats or the Republicans can say. We are also against the big government and big spending ways of Washington. Republicans only give lip service to these ideals. Democrats, in contrast, make no bones about throwing money at problems as their default method of handling any issue. Libertarians are also opposed to the unconstitutional methods used by Bush and company to run the country (e.g. warrantless wiretaps, rendering, torture, prolonged custodial detentions, and so on), as well as the blasé attitudes that Democrats have toward personal and property rights of individuals (e.g. with their limitations on freedom of speech and favoring the use of condemnation proceedings to assist corporations). Considering these glaring differences between Libertarians and Republicans (which represent only some of them), one must agree that lumping Republicans and Libertarians into the same category is an exercise for the dull minded and poorly educated.
.
We believe in FREEDOM. Freedom cannot co-exist with the kind of government ordered nanny-state and society that you crave. A person is not free unless he or she is responsible for himself/herself and his/her actions. You have no idea, no conception, of the kinds of freedom that people can loose when the government is given the power to care for all of your needs and absolve you of all responsibilities. But, then again, I am rather sure that you really don’t care if you are free. You are happy to live on Obama’s plantation like a slave of the government. I don’t know how you could look at yourself in the mirror.
.
And - BTW - you are both delusional and paranoid if you think anyone wants to kick you out of this country. I just wish more people would grow up, determine their own lives, and learn to care of their own responsibilities. However, since you have invited me to go to Russia (where you claim my views might fit in), I should return the favor and invite you to go live in Venezuela where your views fit in well. See how silly that sounds?

John D commenting on a story about uncivil political and media discourse? Now that is funny.

I find it amazing that Bush-41, the man that ran the Willie Horton Ad, is talking about the lack of civil discourse in politics. That one ad set a new low in political advertising.

Olbermann and Maddow have called W. Bush out on his atrocities to America and to the world. No suprise that Poppy Bush cries about his boy, and calls Olbermann and Maddow 'sick puppies'. George H. W. Bush gushed and called his boy 'Quincy'----after the boy was elected a second time----after being selected by the supreme court the first time with an initial hike from gov. brother Jeb in FL and, then, the second time after the boy raised the terror alert right before the 2004 presidential election. 'Quincy'? Never. Absolutely not. George H. W. Bush seems to be a sick and overprotective megalomaniac.

I don't follow this stuff very closely. I don't listen to any of these shows. I only see what I see in the papers. The reality is that the folks who cater to the right-wing point of view get far more press and say far more outrageous things. Both sides have programs that appeal to their point of view. But, Maddow and Olberman barely get any press. I assume that means they are less outrageous seeing that only the crazy-talk seems to make headlines. Regardless, your tv came with an on/off button. Exercise your right to turn the stupid thing off. I guarrantee within a few short days of not listening to this nonsense you will be much happier.
