A mass banquet is held to mark the 2,560th birthday of Confucius at Shendun village in Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong province on Oct. 15, 2009. The banquet involved more than 8,000 residents who claim to be offsprings of the Chinese thinker and social philosopher. (AP photograph)

Old saying:
"He who spends time passing trivial legislation may find himself out of time to read health-care bill.''
Confucius?
No, Flake.
Rep. Jeff Flake, Arizona Republican, explaining his vote today against a congressional resolution, HR 784, "honoring the 2560th anniversary of the birth of Confucius and recognizing his invaluable contributions to philosophy and social and political thought."
But remember: He who plays basketball with President Obama no necessarily play ball on health-care bill.
Caucus.
GOP caucus.

Thank you Jeff Flake...a voice of reason. I've often wondered why they waste time with this trivial proclamations etc.

He who spends time releasing statements explaining why he didn't have the time to support trivial legislation makes himself look like an idiot.
Maybe Flake could look into why his fellow Repugs are wasting everyones time by honoring the Teabaggers on the House floor.

Can't you see old Sheila Jackson Lee saying "If you can honor this old Chinese guy, why didn't you honor Michael Jackson - after all he invented the "moon walk". The old Chinese guy probably couldn't even dance."

All of you are missing the point. I'm not a devout follower of Confucius but the whole idea or purpose is that social injustice is exposed. It is important because people rather turn a blind eye to the fact that men treat their fellows with cruelty. Exposing these ills of society helps promote change. Change in laws, business practice, human rights, fairness, equality. ect. . .
This is not about honoring some old ancient Chinese dude. It's honoring the concept that we want to promote fairness and justice so we can co-exist more peacefully amongst ourselves.

Writers that use Chinese stereotypical language, may be fired from their failing newspapers.
Mark, you gonna do an impression of Obama speaking ebonics?
