Olbermannia: One-hour health check: The Swamp

The Countdown host's full-length docu-commentary, a passion play.

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Keith Olbermann, that firebrand of the evening news commentaries, may have set a record in the category of full-length docu-commentary with his one-hour prescription for health-care reform.

"I do not want to yell,'' the MSNBC host of Countdown said early in his speech last night. "I feel like screaming but everybody is screaming, everybody is screaming that this is about rights or freedom or socialism or the president or the future or the past or a political failure or a political success. We have all been screaming, I have been screaming.

"And we have all been screaming because we do not want to face, we cannot face, what is at the heart of all of this, what is the unspoken essence of every moment of this debate; what, about which, we are truly driven to such intense ineffable inchoate emotions. Because ultimately, in screaming about health care reform, pro or con, we are screaming about death.

"This, ultimately, is about death....

"About preventing it. About fighting it. About resisting it,'' Olbermann said with a speech that sounded less like a legislative prescription and more like a passion play for the heart-strings of an audience who has forgotten what is at the core of need for health care in America. He spoke at length about his own father's illness and surgery, and he spoke of the challenge, as he sees it, for a Congress debating reform.

"About grabbing hold of anything and everything to forestall it and postpone it, even though we know that the force will overcome us all - always will, always has. Health care is, at its core, about improving the odds of life in its struggle against death. Of extending that game which we will all lose, each and every one of us unto eternity, extending it another year or month or second....

"We want to live. What is government for if not to help us do so?;'' Olbermann asked his viewers. "And yet today, at this hour, somebody somewhere in this country is arguing against, or protesting against, or yelling against health care reform, because the subject is really life and death, and they're scared, and they have been scared, and they have been mis-led by the overly-simple words of one side, and misinformed by the overly-complex words of the other side.

Keith who?

Oh yeah, the fellow with 6 listeners--all of them journalists.

"We want to live. What is government for if not to help us do so?'' Olbermann asked his viewers.

Olbermann also slobbers, "Death is the issue! How can we not be unified against death?"

And what is Olberman's stance on abortion again???

YOUR MOVE, HYPOCRITS!

Is this guy still making stupid sports jokes on ESPN? Oh wait......he's the idiot on MSNBC. Who cares what he has to say.....he's not a journalist, he's no different that the rest of the Hollywood Elite Rich Liberals. Why would anyone listen to any of them?

Wow, talk about desperation..........

This guy is a moron. He spent all that time ranting and only 5 people watched his show. That was an increase of 20% from the night before.

And this guy has what special knowledge about the issue that's different from you or me?

It's like lisening to ssean penn or bill maher's rants ....they don't have any better knowledge or inside thatn normal people except that they have a few more people listening to them then Kieth (?)

Keith Olbermann I can't even stand to look at you. Hey I tell you what you and anyone that agrees with you can pony up your own money to fund. Everyone who's smart knows it's nothing, but a scam and middle America is going to foot this bill. Hey Olbermann you and all the other liberal minds, you know... the ones that have come out in the public eye doing commercials like Ferrell and some of the other liberal hollywood nut job, and Michael Moore who say to cap Corp pay at the top... why don't you guys cap what you make and give the rest away. Oh,...I thought so. You sit they're and want to cap exec pay with your liberal agendas and attitudes contradicting what you yourself do on a daily basis and that's get over paid. Compare $20,000,000.00 dollars or more a film to what a corp exec. makes a year. Not even close, not to mention Corp. execs. actually work. You guys are all a joke and anyone who buys into your liberal B.S. is a bigger joke.

Keith Olbermann is a left wrong nut case that acts goofy to get a better television audience against Fox's Bill O' Reilly. But it has not worked and Olbermann still trails O' Reilly badly in the ratings.

I sthis the same guy who thinks he knows something about football? The world is full of crackpots. He is near the top of the list.

stick to news. no one covers the news these days; from the babysitter culture of the left to the gun totin' right. i guess they figure the US has gotten too dumb to make decisions on "FACTS" and not "SPIN". It is funny how Fox stands up against the combined total of CNN, MSNBC, etc... which means that Fox has tapped into a huge segment of society that the others lost long ago.

I watched KO last night. I love KO's ....uhhhh...enthusiasm...for the topic at hand, but take him with a grain of salt.

Appreciated a rational discussion of healthcare for once. There is way too much dialogue from people who have absolutely no idea what's going on. Agree or disagree with KO, I appreciated his candor and would appreciate this kind of discussion on all sides of the debate - not oversimplification and not fear-mongering...just rational dialogue.

Let me guess, Beck/Hannity/Limbaugh/Malkin parrots won't be able to argue the facts and logic Olbermann uses to support his arguments so they will resort to personal attacks....3...2...1...Go!
PS It makes me proud that his ratings are significantly less than FOX. It just proves that thinking humans have jobs and better things to do than to anxiously huddle around a TV or radio with pen and paper in hand like the brownshirt Storm Troopers who listen to Beck/Hannity/Limbaugh/Malkin

Bruce is a tool. Like him or not, Olbermann's show gets big ratings for cable tv in his lot and regularly beats out O'Reilly and Campbell Brown.

Olbermann's plea is not about prescribing one solution, but rather generating meaningful ideas so that differing minds can find middle ground.

Anything of substance or just a liberal reporter letting us know that a failed opinion show host was emoting? Was there some substance offered as to how what is being done will improve health care? I don't think it will because I am living in reality, not fantasyland.

For the life of me, I do not see why cons, neo-cons, neo neo-cons, con-cons, and other nutty types (like Bruce) and hypocrites cannot grasp the issue here: it's about Americans, the economy and the good of the nation now and for the future. Their porn, their guns, their other little hypocrisies won't be at all affected and, quite apart from what those tired and out of touch bloviators like the risible Michael Savage say, the country is *not* going to socialism. Health care needs to be changed for the good of the country. Period. To overhaul health care in this country is to save it from going bankrupt, while it addresses the injustices currently perpetrated by the health care industry just to slake their simpleminded greed. In short, all Americans should be covered by health care. End of story. Get it?

Such a passionate plea can be the first step in a long journey.

Here's a suggestion--the heroic Mr. Olbermann identify five uninsured families in his community, and go out and purchase policies for them. He is a millionaire, this would be a drop in the bucket for him.

Five uninsured families, Keith. Buy them guaranteed renewable policies with no preexisting condition limits. Promise to do this for five years, or until they obtain insurance through their employer. Make a real difference.

You'd be putting our money where your mouth and passions are. You'll also get a sense of what this reform will cost the average US taxpayer. Maybe then do a report after you have stepped up to the plate?

Wow--Keith really struck a nerve with the wacko right wing crackpots. No real surprise there, except the pathetic degree to which they'll stoop to further their reactionary agenda.

"And this guy has what special knowledge about the issue that's different from you or me?"

The weeks he's just spent caring for his critically ill father just months after the death of his mother?"

Only KO could afford the best treament in the world for his father. He stated the specialist who operated on his father was one of the top 5 best specialists in the world. It's just KO thinks the rest of us deserve access to affordable health care while Rethuglicans believe that those of us without health insurance should just go away and die already.

Why would anyone listen to this guy about healthcare. He is no expert. Youy need to listen to real experts on healthcare: Beck, Rush and Palin! They are true experts in the field, and I believe every nsingle word they say without question!

I hope that all of you anti Keith people lose your jobs and your health insurance in the next month. Then try to buy some on the open market when you can't afford COBRA premiums. When you have to decide between paying for health insurance and your mortgage.
I can't believe how many selfish, narrow minded people there are in this country. The crisis should happen to YOU.

Fact check, Peter: O'Reilly consistently defeats Olbermann in the ratings. Anywhere from 75%-250% more viewers. Try doing a google search before posting next time.

Peter; where do you get your info. Every stat I have read has you wrong

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/09/25/oreilly-vs-olbermann-tv-ratings-through-thursday-september-24/28482

Can't we like em both???

"Bruce is a tool. Like him or not, "Olbermann's show gets big ratings for cable tv in his lot and regularly beats out O'Reilly and Campbell Brown.

Posted by: peter"

Delusional KO gets, in "peter", the advocate he deserves. As even HuffPo has pointed out, O'Reilly regularly clobbers Olbermann in the ratings"

"Fox News claimed 9 of the top 10 programs in weekday primetime, with the "O'Reilly Factor" (2.989 million total viewers, 702,000 A25-54) leading the pack for the 102nd consecutive month. "Hannity" (2.165 million total viewers, 551,000 A25-54), "Glenn Beck" (1.962 million total viewers, 472,000 A25-54), "On the Record with Greta van Susteren" (1.814 million total viewers, 452,000 A25-54), and "Special Report with Bret Baier" (1.784 million total viewers, 392,000 A25-54) rounded out the top 5. MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was the only non-Fox News show to crack the top 10, coming in at #10 with 1.094 million total viewers and 323,000 A25-54."

Olbermann exists simply to provide talking points and videos to sympathetic (far) leftwing journalists, who can't express these views directly but are happy to quote (and requote and requote) Olbermann's rants in their columns.

" It makes me proud that his ratings are significantly less than FOX. "

Good one dum-dum Janet! I LOVE LOSING!!!

Get used to it in 2010 . .

This moron knows as much about healthcare as he does about football, to hear him talk about either makes my ears bleed

Reading some of the idiotic comments on here about Keith Oberman just brings home the rason the health care system in this country is so F-upped. Rather than agree he makes valid points, about a subject that is important to us all, you'd rather attach him personally.
I can only guess you are listerners of Rush, Hannity and that idiot Beck. Their tatics are the same. Attack the messager, so the message is no longer the story. Oberman gets over 5 million viewers everyday. Those people get it, it's unfortunate that you don't.

Compelling Kwief, I bet the 6 people that watch your show were moved

Keith BLOlbermann Drinking Game Scheduled for tonight

by Derek Hunter
Let’s be honest, the only way to watch Keith Olbermann is drunk–blind drunk. That would explain his anemic ratings and his small but loyal following. Real drunks always frequent the same bars.

Since Olbermann is dedicating his show tonight to White House talking points on health care, I figured I might as well make it interesting by creating a drinking game for it.

Note: I don’t recommend watching Countdown, there is always something more entertaining and informative on the Watching Paint Dry network, but if your morbid curiosity gets the better of you make sure you have booze handy.

Take a drink every time Keith does one of the following:

•Says “sir” in anger. (Three if it’s a “How dare you, sir!)
•Mentions Sarah Palin (Two if he throws in a pejorative like “failed” or “quitter” first, three if he talks about Trig and the health care he got.)
•Each time he mentions the bogus 44,000 people who die each year for lack of health insurance number.
•Each time he mentions 46, 47 or 50 million uninsured. (Do a shot if he uses the new 30 million number.)
•Praises Canada, France or the UK. (Second sip when he says long lines are a lie.)
•Each time he says “death panel” and Palin.
•Each time he claims Republicans have no plan or solutions. Do a shot when he says Republicans want people to die.
•With every mention of Rush, Hannity, Beck or Levin (aka people with an audience).
•Finish your drink each time he exploits someone’s personal health care horror story and presents it as the norm.
•Chug from the bottle if he mentions the fact that Medicare rejects more claims than any other insurance plan in the country.
•Finish the bottle if he tells the truth about anything, accidentally or on purpose. (I was going to say that you take a drink each time he lies but I don’t want to cause a nationwide wave of alcohol poisoning.)

Feel free to add your own rules in the comments.

Follow these guidelines and you’ll be more drunk than Teddy Kennedy on, well, an average Tuesday in the 70’s. And that might just be enough to tolerate spending an hour watching Keith Olbermann…maybe.

Enjoy!

Notice all of the lefties showing up that don't have anything of substance to say (like KO).

Lets see... you want to abort babies, let vicious criminals live, say that 'medicare' is great, say that 'medicare' isnt working and that 'medicare' needs to be reformed and think that I (me and all the other taxpayers) should pay (through the nose) for someone ELSES health problems? Ummm yah, you are a nut for sure. Take the needle out after you shoot up...

Wow... you repugnicans came out full force against this one huh?? He's actually trying to be civil and you right wingers come on here and have nothing but insults for the man. Your reaction to this is exactly why this country can't have descent discourse regarding a very important issue.

And to the point someone made earlier... there's a reason why Faux News has higher ratings, it's because most of the people watching are sheep and can't think on their own and need to be told what to believe in, what to be against and what talking points to scream at people.

And if you're going to trash Olbermann for not being a a "real" reporter, lets discuss O'Reilly's background, Hard Copy, now that's news. Or Hannity, a college drop out who's done nothing but yap on radio and TV, he's no more qualified than Howard Stern. Beck? another college drop out and former alcoholic and drug addict.

But Olbermann, a Cornell graduate who's been working in broadcasting since he was in highschool just can't compare to those well educated, experienced know nothing at Faux News.

The only acknowlegement of Olbermann is from the SWAMP. What a surprise.

Next up.. Chris Berman's take on the military actions. Then we'll hear Marv Albert's ideas for the crumbling economy. Then Chet Coppock's weighs in on the never ending crime in Chicago and the plan for hoops pal Arne to add his cluelessness to the situation.

Kind of scary what some people deem as sources for news. As long as they preach to their chior, who cares if they have zero credibility, correct?

If this guy is for something, it must be wrong.

Olbermann's show gets big ratings for cable tv in his lot and regularly beats out O'Reilly and Campbell Brown.

It's truly amazing to me, that so many Rush, Hannity, Beck, Malkin listener have the time to comment about anything Oberman say's. You guys must be scared he might actually make valid common sense points about an important subject to everyone like health care. So you attack him personally. Great plan! That's going to fix health care. It appears the only solution the right has is to be against EVERYTHING the left say's. I have not heard even ONE plan to fix our health care system from the right. As a matter of fact, I actually heard Hannity supporting the health care companies! I guess if your a multi-millionaire talk show host why not. You'll never have to worried about health care costs or coverage. Unfortunately, his listerners are not all wealthy. Wait until they get denied coverage, lets see how much they will agree with these right wing talk show idiots then. You guys just don't get it, and the folks at Fox snews are just filling you full of misinformation.

hese comments make it so obvious that no one cares about the issue, they care about their side winning. You should all start looking at the issues independently instead of siding with whatever the republican/democrat's stance is. It's like you all think that politics is a sport and you want your team to win, i don't even think anyone on here even understands the issues that face healthcare they are just rooting for whatever team they have arbitrarily decided to follow. You should start thinking for yourselves and stop listening to the olbermanns, the limbaughs, palins, etc. political parties are ruining this country and making it impossible to get anything productive accomplished.

@Jeremy:

Five uninsured families, Keith.
Buy them guaranteed renewable policies with no preexisting condition limits. Promise to do this for five years, or until they obtain insurance through their employer. Make a real difference.

--------

And then what, Jeremy? And then you'll support single payer healthcare? No? Then you'll support a public option? Then you'll find KO credible? No?

This is just like the idiotic insistence that members of Congress/Admin ought to pledge to accept the same health care as the public option. It's just a demand, with nothing in exchange. It's just mindless spew, which is all the Republicants can muster. Ever.

Maybe you people (and you know who you are) need to actually READ this article or listen (not hear) the video before you dismiss it because of who is saying it. There are some VALID points that he is making here and you know it.

Dear Mr. Olbermann,
If you want my support (tax dollars) for healthcare reform I require a few things first.
1) Fix Medicare, it's going broke.
2) Stop the Medicade/Medicare fraud starting with benefits to illegal aliens (sorry, undocumented workers)
3) Tort reform.
4) Use your influene to insist that lawmakers read AND understand the bill AND defend the future costs.
If you can make these four things happen, I'm on board. If not, please use your own money to support health insurance for everyone because I'm not interested.
Best regards,
Chicago Al

Didn't O'Reilly graduate from Harvard? Not that it means anything-Obama did as well and doesn't seem all that bright or knowledgeable. I think Ann Coulter covered the Cornell stuff/he didn't graduate from the Ivy League school (again, it doesn't mean anything until you raise the myth of KO's genius).

Then try to buy some on the open market when you can't afford COBRA premiums.

Posted by: DtG | October 8, 2009 11:57 AM
;
Too bad the evil Socialist Democrats included a 65% subsidy for COBRA premiums in the Porkulus bill. My guess is the redneck rubes would not pass up the opportunity to get these Socialist subsidies. I've never talked to someone who qualified and has rejected it when they are enrolling in COBRA at my work. Mostly people beg for the subsidy to last for more than 9 months. For many folks it will be ending soon.

The heartlessness of those who would stand in the way of reform astounds me... Keith had it right. He did not belittle the ignorant Fox wachers of the nation, he embraced you and invited you to stand against death with the rest of us. He understands your fear, as do the rest of us. It's ok to be afraid, we should be. But letting your fellow Americans die because of your fear of change is criminal, and needs to be addressd.

We do want to live, and we as human beings, have the right to live and the responsebility help our neighbors do the same when they are cannot do it themselves.

And one more thing: The Right to Chose folks are NOT advicating the death of unborn children, they are fighting to uphold a womans Right to Chose, and to not let the Government get between her and her doctor....sound familier, hypocrits?

Most of the posters who have commented on this post have proven Keith's point IN MY OPINION. Instead of talking about health care and the fight against death, you would rather attack each other and call Keith names. I personally do not care for some broadcasters, but I do not bash them, I debate the issues they bring up. People, please, stop falling into this trap. Its more than acceptable to have an opinion on the issues, but stop wasting your time attacking talking heads, it doesn't help your cause.

And as I say this, I realize that I am attempting to help those who feel differently to make a stronger arguement. Why? Because I want a good debate. I may have certain aspects of the issue wrong, AS MAY YOU!! We need to find those and correct ourselves and others to create long term, dependable legislation, no matter the issue at hand. Otherwise, we all live in our bubbles and watch ONLY one network or another. Stop getting all your information from once source. Walk across the aisle and find a source over there. Or better yet, scream at the media to give us a truly INDEPENDANT source of news and information on current events & legislation.

After all, our democratic republic depends on debate to stand the test of time. Why did Rome fall? Many reasons, most notably, a lack of representation of the people and good spirited debate.

Think please, lets talk about this...

So why is this news that deserves to be in the venerable Chicago Tribune? The fact that he is being paid to give a one hour rant does not justify the ink or megabytes that have been invested.

The only thing special about this failed sportscaster's "Special Comments" are the people who believe them.

I watched most of the show last nite. Like most liberals, I don’t really watch that much TV. I do try to catch Olbermann and Maddow, along with my “guilty pleasures”, Stewart and Colbert.

I was actually overwhelmed with what I heard from Keith last nite. It may have been a little over the top, but his message was clear and honest. You can gripe about the money he makes, you can laugh about his lack of sports knowledge (srsly? THAT’S important?), and you can giggle about lower ratings than whatever nut is on FOX. What I was hearing last nite is the story of a man that almost lost his father. His appreciation of the life saving care that he received. His guilt at knowing that he could afford to pay for this exemplary care, but that most of us cannot afford. His awareness that our debate over healthcare has taken a “NOU” turn instead of being about the millions of people without health insurance. About the thousands that die unnecessarily each year due to the lack of coverage, or lost coverage, or denied coverage.

And, what do I see hear? Children. Calling him names, coming up with lame statements such as “he knows NOTHING about healtcahre!”. Yes. And Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, and the others are brain surgeons. We should listen to them because they said so.

Go ahead. Blame him for being rich. Blame him for being educated and having what it takes to make more money than most of us. Go back to FOX and listen to your demigods and their delusional half-baked rants. When you or someone you love loses their job and gets sick, maybe then you’ll understand what the rest of us already know.

Bobbie Mobbie...

On the floor, oh my. That was perfect

Show me someone who hasn't witnessed suffering. That's what I would say to KO. Yet over 50% don't want to change their insurance or the system. It would help if KO and the party he prefers would offer an argument with premises and a conclusion instead of revealing scare tactics.
The problem with this plan is simply this- you cannot insure everyone without someon being worse off.

If you think Olbermann is left wing whaked-out loon, try watching the Ed Schultz show for ten minutes.
Oh, and Pete...we know "facts" are not in the lefty play-book, but go to tvnewser.com and compare msnbc to FOX...hit the bong first.

Paulo

Reading the posts from the dimwits above, you can only come to one conclusion: we're screwed.

Why does the WACKO-RIGHT fight the truth all the time. I think it's called "running scared". They're losing the war and they finally realized it. Go, Keith! Go, Obama! Go away, WACKO-RIGHT!

Next the Progressives will be throwing themselves on the ground, kick their feet and crying.. can't quit laughing.. when will MSM wake up to the fact no one is buying their whines anymore..?

JolietJay

I agree with most of your comment, but I would also add Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Glen Beck to the list of "why would anyone listen to them, they're not journalists".

You know, those guys from the Conservative media elite?

USA Today has greater circulation than WSJ and NYT.

To offset "Bobbie Mobbie's"
little drinking game, we here at AA suggest only having a drink when Olbermann has anyone with an opposing viewpoint on his program.

The entire country will be sober in no time!

Hey, Bobbie ... read these results and weep ...

Obama-Biden 69,456,897

Palin-McCain 59,934,814

So you stick to your insignificant TV numbers. Keep watching the idiot box, idiot.

I suppose I was the 6th person watching the commentary. I did not agree with all of his musings but for the greater part he was correct. More and more I believe that opposition to the healthcare reform is political not practical. Everyone will get sick at some point and anyone who has less than a million dollars to spare in the bank understands the need to keep these pharmas and insurance companies in check. A Public health option will probably bring this to bear. This is the truth.

This looks like a fine example of how NOT to approach a problem-- with raw amp-ed up emotion that blows away all attempts at reason. \

DEATH! DEATH!! IT'S ALL ABOUT DEATH AN' I DOAN' WANNA DIEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Good for all of you who have terrific insurance plans that cover all your medical expenses - mine doesn't but hey, who am I to complain. I only hope my husband gets a job with a health insurance company so he can live a life style you all seem to support - what a terrific, caring country we have. I hope you realize you are paying for the un-insured anyway - when they go to emergency rooms, who do you think pays for it?? YOU by your premiums, which are only increased - so please keep up the good work! I think you all should send a Christmas card to your health insurance company & thank them for the wonderful work they do & to keep denying those who need life saving operatiions because .... (one less person to insure??) & those who need procedures to make their lives bearable & denying insurance to people who have had a hangnail - maybe you'll get a "bonus" for keeping them all in the llfestyle they are accustomed to - G-d Bless you one & all.

Mr. City Guy,

As the healthcare system is set up now. We are already paying for everybody ELSE's health problems.

I wonder if we will see the "outrage" from the right like we saw with ACORN, over the recent sting in which 19 of 30 gunshow gun dealers sold guns without a background check. Even when the customer said they probably could'nt pass one. Any takers?

I for one appreciate somebody in this debate not shouting for once, but as always, take Mr. Olbermann with a grain of salt knowing his angle.

As for the audience, that's meaningless. The fact that so many people watch Fox News or any cable news outlet is just a frightening statement on America and how misinformed people are by listening to only one side of an issue. For people to think that they watch Fox and get the full story or even something resembling the facts is both laughable and sad.

"We want to live. What is government for if not to help us do so?;'' He simply doesn't get it. That is not what government is for. I do not want government in my life more than I have too. There are other ways of fixing health care, via mandatory insurance, more competition among insurers (interstate) having Medicare and Medicaid cover the medical costs that end up getting passed on to us and tort reform.

Wow - lots of cheap shots about people watching and sportscasting past (do we really want to compare backgrounds ... what did O'Reilly do before he gained his gravitas? Oh yeah, a sleazy tabloid show on the equivalent with the National Enquirer!) ... but very little about the issue.

Is that all Republicans have left? Personal smears? Seems to me, Ronald Reagan would never have resorted to this - he'd take them on with ideas and he was a good enough salesman that his ideas usually won. But Reagan would never have stooped to the low-blow, hyperbolic hate that the right wingnuts have for the President or anyone else who dares cross their will these days.

Debate the issues and leave the silly spite and pathetic pettiness out of it. Or are you out of ideas, GOP? You say you want reform now, but you had most of the last 30 years to do something. What is YOUR idea?

I hear people rant about Fox News all the time and I wonder if they have ever watched MSNBC. If you haven't...it is a joke. Olbermann, Madow, Mathews...The propaganda is thick.

So lets see, so far every comment by an obvious right winger is about how they hate Keith Oberman. Not ONE comment, solution or aggreement that the current health care system we have is a mess and needs fixing?
Every left leaning person will equally tell you of their dislike for guys like Hannity, Beck, Malkin, Limbaugh, etc. etc. So now that "that " is established, what the hell does any it have to do with Obermans topic, HEALTH CARE REFORM?
How about topic. Are you for the health insurance companies getting rich on your health problems? I don't believe anbody (including Sean Hannity) would actually believe that arguement. We need good health care reform people. We are all going to get sick, old and die some day

No, Keith, it's not about death or prolonging it, it's about giving the government yet another system to run when they haven't proven at all that they can run any of the systems they have in place now. Obama told you what is wrong with Medicare but has it been fixed? No, it's too corupt internally to fix so let's chuck that and start a new system thus giving new people a shot at lining their pockets and not doing anything for the people who need it.
It's not about death, it's about the fact that what they are trying to cram down our throats they would never even think of going on themselves. When asked to sign that all government employees, meaning they guys writing these new bills, would have to be on the system they are designing, guess what, they said NO.
So, no, Keith, it's not about death, it's about not wanting government to be in charge of my LIFE.

I watch his show every night. Keith has a great show and is very funny to watch. Some times his show leans to far to the left but overall it a good show.

This pathetic loser is a Left Wingnut who can't even have a successful TV show.

It's funny to read the people railing againist Olberman and completely missing the point of his comments. It's not about health for them, It's us vs them. It's a FOX/MSNBC smackdown. If we win, they loose. It thier America against our America. We can all win and cut back on the pwoplw that loose if we talk to eacjh other and work out the huge problems that we face together as a Nation. This debate is not a football game, it life and death for your fellow Americans.

Bones, it has nothing to do with Fox News, or conservative ideology, or any of your other moronic attempts to smear those against the health care reform. This is the problem with people like you and Olbermann. How dare we speak out against something we don't want or believe in? Oh, I forgot, this is the OBAMA States of America. If he says it is good, then we should all be on-board and not question him one bit. Do you ever wonder why Fox News has higher ratings? It is because people like to hear a news organization that gives the NEWS and not personal opinions. People are sick and tired of listening to Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and Anderson Cooper bestow their “agenda” on us. They are the same people who belittled the last President, who can never seem to do ANYTHING right. They are now the same people who praise the current President, who can seem to do no wrong. Thus, here in lies the problem with "journalism" today, so many of our "journalists" and "news anchors" DO NOT report the news, but instead give us the biased opinions and their feelings, like Keith Olbermann. If he has something to say about health care, based on his opinion, than he should have to attend a town hall meeting like the rest of us and speak his mind. It must be nice to be able to have a one hour talk show and give your opinions, but the rest of us do not have this luxury. So we are forced to have protests that show that are called into question and blamed on Fox News by…what a shock!!! Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.

Dumb Dumb Janet, Olberiodiot is partly correct: It is about life and death, and folks strive to extend life. Health care reform in many respects is NOT about life and death, though. What it is ABOUT is more government control and holding down costs. If the Demoncraps and their Idiot Minions led by Keith Olberiodit really were interested in about life and death, and holding down costs, they would be for tort reform, they would be for enhanced competition, they would be for other beliefs such as Medical Savings Accounts that truly would enhance care and bring down costs, WITHOUT the government screwing things up.
I love these rich elite liberal slike Olberidiot and Will Ferrell who whine about the need for health care reform. The funny part is, they have the money to get whatever care they want. They won't be part of the government-run health care.

Another angry, self-righteous celebrity who feels that just because he had a large following in the entertainment medium, that people must be interested in his personal political views, no matter how vapid or unrealistic.

Bones, Gina, and Gary, it has nothing to do with Fox News, or conservative ideology, or any of your other moronic attempts to smear those against the health care reform. This article has very little to do with the health care reform. This article is based on Keith Olberman’s attempts to discuss the issues. However, if you watched the one hour diatribe, he offered very little in alternative reform and instead gave his belief on why the OBAMA plan is flawless. I don’t agree and it seems that most on this post don’t either. This is the problem with people like you and Olbermann. How dare we speak out against something we don't want or believe in? Oh, I forgot, this is the OBAMA States of America. If he says it is good, then we should all be on-board and not question him one bit. Do you ever wonder why Fox News has higher ratings? Betty- It's sad that you have to rely on someone else to provide what you need.
JT- Cable News is FOX? An incredible statement and uniformed.

Gary,

Anyone with even an elementary knowledge of health insurance and how it works should know that health insurance companies do not get "rich" off of people's health problems. They make money by the insured not getting sick, Champ.

How dare he challenge the right of an insurance company to make a profit? Their profit is far more important than your puny insignificant life. Why don't all you sick people just die already so the insurance companies can stop wasting money to pay for your care when that money could go to the shareholders instead? This is America. Corporations matter. You don't. And if you try to argue that this is about life and death, I'll bring up abortion just to change the subject because I will protect the rights of corporations to the death! Your death, anyway.

SHOW ME THE MONEY! Golly gee, can't we all just get along? Give me real data, not passions, how is it REALLY going to work and how are we REALLY going to pay for it?

And just a side note, it's not like we have bad doctor's keith, that's why the wealthy Europeans come here for treatment! Like opposing health care now means people are for death! Wow that's childish, but look who's saying it.

ChicagoMom said:
And one more thing: The Right to Chose folks are NOT advicating the death of unborn children, they are fighting to uphold a womans Right to Chose, and to not let the Government get between her and her doctor....sound familier, hypocrits?

Good to know that you are able to do the mental gymnastics that allow you to distinguish between the killing of an unborn baby and a woman's "right" to make that choice resulting in the killing of her unborn baby.

Again, YOUR MOVE, HYPOCRIT!

waitwhat said "Like most liberals, I don’t really watch that much TV. I do try to catch Olbermann and Maddow, along with my “guilty pleasures”, Stewart and Colbert." isn’t that like 4 hrs of TV a night? that’s not a lot? that’s why we cant have an intelligent debate because a moron like you thinks 4hrs of TV a night is not a lot, how can you argue with that?. I hope you don’t have children you Nit Wit better hurry back to your idiot box you stories are on.

Idiots! You're all idiots!

May none of you get cancer.

This guy is unbelievable . Okay, Keith, if it's all about death, if you're so passionate about people dying, why do you support abortion? Oh well, the liberal credo is take a stance when it's convenient and popular. He has a terrible double standard here and really needs to realize that he isn't always right.

Keith Olbermann made many fabulous points in his discussion of health care. It is sad that so many that obviously didn't see the problem saw fit do trash the program. A tragedy that so many cannot see the forest for the trees--they are willing to give up health care options for themselves and their families--just to guarantee that the insurance companies have inflated profits. I hope they never have a "pre-existing" condition!

Can't stand Olbermann.....or Beck....or Limbaugh....or O'reilly....or Dobbs......or Sanchez, etc.

I could care less what any of these self-serving talking heads have to say. Left or right. They are all part of the problem with modern "journalism". Opinion rather than news. Ratings rather than truth. Controversey over integrity.

Get rid of them all, I say. Hit the re-set button and get back to real journalism like Murrow and Cronkite.

What is the right's solution for health care reform? Anyone ... anyone?

We've been waiting to hear it for about 30 years. Still not forthcoming.

Like KO said: It's let poor people die and middle income people worry. The rich? They not only got nuthin' to worry about, they've convinced poor wingnuts -- who are getting screwed by the health care system themselves -- to lead the assault against the poor and middle class.

Um, Robert? Who is going to implement all those ideas you enumerated? Oh. Yeah. Gubmint. Big bad evil gubmint. You right-wingers really can't think, can you?

Our health care system is awful. I have what's considered a "good" health plan, which covers no preventative care and has sky-high deductibles... And I'm lucky. Health care in America basically amounts at this point to cancer insurance.

I'm as liberal as they come, and I like Keith a lot--but I also take him with a grain of salt.

But as a rational person, I don't think of this as an issue of political leaning. I just don't like the idea that someone else's profit is part of the equation when it comes to decisions about my health. I should be able to make my own choices, and have options that work for me, even if I've fallen upon hard times.

It's saddening to me that, thus far, we haven't had a serious debate about this. It's either "OMG BARACK OBAMA IS BAD" or "OMG SUPPORT WHATEVER THE DEMOCRATS WANT TO DO" but not "How does this affect me? Do I want more choices? Do I want the government to mandate my private health provider can't just cancel my plan for nonsense reasons if it suits them?"

I think if you actually listen to reason, you, like every other industrialized nation has concluded, that it's cheaper for us to provide good care for everyone than to front the bill for unnecessary ER visits, and that health insurance companies can, at the very least, serve us better without going bankrupt--but don't have any incentive to do so.

Government is not always bad, regardless of what conservative zealots will tell you. If we inform ourselves and demand a fair plan, we can get better care without disaster.

Nobody's proposing death panels. Nobody's proposing to take away existing plans. The president is proposing to put some safeguards in place to make things fairer, and for the government to provide an additional option which will lower our costs as taxpayers in the end. Yes, the cost seems high, but it'll also defer even greater costs through prevention and make sure we have a healthy society. Why do you think people in Canada and England haven't thrown their systems out the window? It's not like we're the only people who write letters and complain and vote people out of office. It's because people like their plans. And we're not even talking about going as far as that. So what's all the fuss?

I know it's not as easy as yelling about that thing Aunt Zelma forwarded you that was in all caps and with bright red letters, but this is about our quality of life. We owe it to ourselves to know what we're talking about.

"We want to live. What is government for if not to help us do so?;''

Um, since when is it the governments job to help us live? The government's job is to provide us the means to take care of ourselves and nothing more, certainly not to take care of us.

This is pretty good. Why can't people just listen without sticking politics into it? Once again, our country is breaking in two.

"We want to live. What is government for if not to help us do so?;''

Pretty simple. Keith is right on target. Too bad so many people are afraid to be compassionate. No problem buying fancy yachts, looking for bailouts for sinking portfolios, or paying for bombs - but don't spend another dime to help someone live a longer more productive life.
We are a pathetic society

Olberman does a great job every night. I hesitate reading comments cause there is always people that feel the need to be mean, or send bad karma in the air. Mostly Republicans. The GOP and the parties base is dwindling, watching the rest of us evolve past their ridiculous selfishness and belief in fairy tale religions. More than 5 people watch Olbermans show, and he has played an important role in getting the right people in office to help all of the non millionaires out here. Olberman is entertaining and talented and those who criticize him possess neither of those qualities. Bye Bye Republicans, enjoy living in Texas and the south. Good riddance.

I missed Keith's show

AGAIN

lucky me

When will Silva get a real job, you know, one where he does more than just watch Looney Tunes and write down what a mediocre sports reporter who thought ESPN intellectually challenging, has to say about anything.

The sad thing is that the Tribune thinks this mimeographing a TV show is journalism.

Keith O. was 100% right. We need a huge change. It's crazy how many people let themselves be influenced by people who wouldn't spit on them if they were burning. The insurance companies will screw you every chance they get. We need more people speaking out like KO. Keep it up Keith!!

To all followers of Beck, Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Malkin etc., you must LOVE your healthcare insurance companies. Could you share their names with us so when our Cobra payments are over we can apply to one of your healthcare plans? You ought not to keep them to yourselves, even though this country has become an "every man for themselves" country, which is so admirable. What a fine lesson you are teaching your children - don't have any compassion for the under dog. I sincerely hope these insurance companies appreciate your loyalty. A question, who pays for the un-insured when they go to the emergency rooms?? Why, I believe you do. Hospital bills are higher when the un-insured usetheir emergency rooms for healthcare, hospital costs go up, therefore someone has to pay. When hospital costs go up, the insurance industry pays for it & they knowing you are satisfied clients your premiums & deductible go up, big deal. Plus, I bet, more people will be kicked out if they are too sick so please stay healthy! Everyone out for themselves - right? Even the insurance executives.- they aren't going to sacrifice their lifestyle you have supported all these years. There is no accountability for how insurance companies do business & I assume you like it that way. Reform would take care of this making insurance companies accountable for how the do business. Also, a public option would give them competition, like when McDonalds has $1 burgers, BurgerKing will have 2 burger for $1, but why upset the status quo?? Your happy & that's all that matters - bless you one & all.

It's real funny people on this blog complain about Keith Oberman rant, but no one like their heath care. If they do they haven't used it. The right wing is pimping their own people, but it like telling the prostitute that the pimp is taking their money, but the prostitute will tell anyone that the pimp is helping her. This is the right way of thinking.

Keith is like his network, dead heads. Neither makes sense. USA would appreciate it when both die off.

oldberman is the leader of the democrats.
I hope olberman dies in a long line waiting for his healthcare, although I doubt they can cure his pompous and egocentric personality ( or maybe he's waiting to see if obama can be cured first)
There is no healthcare CRISIS

worsethanbefore - you are trash. What is wrong with the right in this country? Can't you see that this issue affects everyone?

I hope folks remember a RIGHT WING TERRORIST sent Mr. Olbermann a package of Anthrax. Republicans truly are the scummiest creatures to drag their knuckles across this Earth. Democrats challenge Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Beck, and Malkin with ideas and facts. The followers of right wing ideology resort to acts of political terror. That is the difference between these two parties. Let's not forget that.

Olberman- An excellant time to switch channel-
Go to Fox.

Sean-You just gave me a migraine!
So in your analogy- who is the pimp and who is the prostitute.. or are they interchangeable?

@worsethanbefore

I hope olberman dies in a long line waiting for his healthcare...

----------------

How nice.

BTW: The leader of the Democrats is the President of the United States, the guy who thumped the demented scold and the vapid moose hunter in a democratic election. Ten points if you can identify the leader of the Republicans.

Well, in the same spirit, I hope you lose you job and insurance and then die of cancer because the doctor wouldn't see you beacuse you couldn't pay, and by the time the symptoms were serious enough for the emergency room to see you it was already too late to cure the cancer. Would it be a crisis for you then?

And what is Olberman's stance on abortion again???

YOUR MOVE, HYPOCRITS!

Posted by: Chris | October 8, 2009 11:04 AM

So tell me Chris, what's your stance on Capital Punishment?

Sean is that a shot at Acorn?

Ha Ha Ha. I love lefty reasoning. It's so nutty that it makes me fall out of my chair every time I stumble across it, or every time I log onto the SWAMP.

Jobs are the solution. Employment is the solution. Government is not the solution. Government is the problem. Government can't run health care, the USPS, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Government Motors, the banks, Cash for Clunkers, Swine Flu Shots, or anything of any substance. All government can do is to create an environment in which business can prosper; something it has been opposed to doing for years. Liberal government would rather target business as the enemy and try to figure out how to squeeze excess profits tax from them, i.e, going after the former Big 3, now just the Little 1.

Libs eat the rich. The wealhy create investment, jobs, and opportunity in this country; or at least they used to before government sent them scurrying into holes to hoard their money.

Lefties who think all of this is FREE (free Spendulous money, free Healthcare, Cash for Clunkers) don't care who's footing the bill. The answer is that NO ONE is footing the bill. We can't begin to address all of the trilions of dollars in unfunded entitlements forthcoming. Wise up, free lunchers. The day of reckoning is soon coming. "Those who wait for the government to provide for all their needs are in for a long wait and major disappointment." - Financial Counselor Dave Ramsey.

I know, Wall Street and Predatory lenders made us all buy homes we couldn't afford. Ha ha. Silly Keynesian libs all hoping for government jobs. Good luck with that.

Wow! This comment section reads like The Lord of the Flies meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!

I think Debate Class should be mandatory in all high schools because rational, civil discourse is an endangered species.

@Corey...Hey, idiot...besides your childish name calling, what else can you do to further prove your ignorance? I said I caught the end of Olbermann. Approx. the last 15mins. I normally don’t watch the show at all because he’s a little too far left for even me. I only caught a few mins. of Maddow because she came on at the same time as Jon Stewart...which is a half hour show. I normally fall asleep before Colbert...which is also a half hour show (but, I missed it last nite). So, genious, all in all I watched about 45mins of tv last nite. And you? Next time, you unevolved cromag, check your attitude at the door. Interesting how without any facts you managed to pick that one tidbit out of what I wrote and come to a wrong conclusion. You fail in Reading Comp 101 and Basic Math, but get an A+ in Right Wing Debate Tactics. GG COREY!!!

To all those bashing Mr. Olbermann remember he often mentions his Ivy League degree from Cornell. Oh wait, it was the Cornell School of Agriculture not the Ivy League Cornell. Never mind.

Oh yeah? Wha are Obama's views on capital punishment? Bummer, huh?

Olbermann should let his unibrow grow. It suits his intellect. He's nothing but a pompous blow hard.

This guy is a jerk through and through, he just another east coast bleeding heart liberal, and he knows nothing about pro football. I enjoy watching the games however, with the sound off.

Thanks Keith Olbermann for your voice !
No one knows until one experiences the status quo and I hope and pray Mr. Olbermann get's better and out of a nasty hospital facility festering and breeding MRSA ( methicilin resistant staphlycoccus aureaus ) My father ( thanks to what they deem, defend and support as "the acceptable standards of health care") in Tennessee and Virginia literally rotted to death after picking up MRSA in a filthy hospital, and they call it quality care ! He went in for a three day procedure that ended up being a ten month long nightmare. He walked into their facility, his feet rotted and his legs had to be amputated. I've tried to get answers but am rebuffed and ignored, from the hospital, to local government to state government and federal government. MRSA SHOULD NOT be in our homes and schools or killing children with a flu bug. It's been a frustrating five years but I do keep asking and prodding hopefully some day I will get facts instead of excuses, sent to another board or agency or no reply at all.

http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 ( see link for more info )

I wonder how many innocent people are going to die before we wake up and demand the very health care system we trust, believe and depend on to keep us healthy clean up their nasty hospitals and quit infesting our communities with a potentially deadly bacteria. Seven kids from Tennessee have died from "swine flu", what they aren't telling you is what is the underlying cause of these deaths, it's MRSA.

And "Chris" ...FYI, since you clearly don't know better: A person who's lived, a parent, a father, a citizen...a living PERSON, that's a LIFE...that's what we're talking about when we talk about fighting against death. A fetus, an embryo, a goddamned assembly of unconscious flesh inside the uterus is NOT a "LIFE"...it can be aborted & in most cases, probably should be aborted, if that's what the mother has decided to do...SO WHAT??? Wise up & read something other than propaganda from Randall Terry & his moron brigade.

be it bill or a catastrophe with kieth they all have one thing in common, HIGHLY overpaid oppinionated self righteous jerks who like to hear themselves blat, ooops watch that mirror

olberman is so full of hate and ignorance.. just turn him off like the rest of america has already done

Wow, Keith!

All this over one single broadcast.

You must be doing something right.
