Rush Limbaugh: Nobel 'embarrassment': The Swamp

The Republican Party wages a full-bore assault on a 'meaningless' prize.

The Swamp

by Mark Silva and updated at 6:30 pm EDT

Among the various reaction today to the news that President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Prize for Peace, perhaps the most stunning is radio Rush Limbaugh's suggestion that the president has been handed another embarrassment from Scandinavia.

And the national Republican Party chairman, calling Obama's award a sign of how "meaningless''' the Nobel Peace Prize has become, is calling on all Republicans to pitch in for the party tonight because the "Democrats and their international leftist allies want America made subservient to the agenda of global redistribution and control.''

"This actually makes total sense when you look at who these Nobel people are, these elite Norwegians, Europeans,'' Limbaugh said of the president's prize today on his show. "They love what Obama is doing.

"This fully exposes, folks, the illusion that is Obama,'' Limbaugh said. "This a greater embarrassment than losing the Olympics bid was.''

And Limbaugh suggested that Obama now will be hard-pressed to authorize any new deployment of U.S. forces in Afghanistan - though the president today acknowledged the continuing threat that terrorism in Afghanistan poses, even as he was acknowledging the Peace Prize.

"The elites of the world are urging him, a man of peace, to not do the surge in Afghanistan,'' Limbaugh said. "They are urging him not to take on Iran.... That's what this is really all about. How can he now send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan?''

Rep. Gresham Barrett, a South Carolina Republican running for governor back home, said this today:

"Congratulations to President Obama on his prize. I'm not sure what the international community loved best; his waffling on Afghanistan, pulling defense missiles out of Eastern Europe, turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras, coddling Castro, siding with Palestinians against Israel, or almost getting tough on Iran.

"The world may love it, but following in the footsteps of Jimmy Carter (Nobel Peace Prize winner, 2002) is not where America needs to go. Hopefully, this surprise award will give the President cause to reevaluate his current course."

The Libertarian Party today suggested a new date for future awards of the Nobel Prize.

"Unlike the gullible people who listened to The War of the Worlds radio broadcast in 1938 and thought Martians really were attacking the United States, when I heard this morning that Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, I changed the channel in disbelief. But, the same thing was being said in multiple places," Libertarian National Committee Chairman William Redpath said.

"The gravity of the Nobel awards has not been augmented by some of their recent selections, including today's announcement, last year's award of the Economics prize to Paul Krugman, or the 2007 Peace Prize to Al Gore, whose global warming theories he will not defend in open debate,'' the Libertarian said. "Maybe an early Springtime announcement date would be more appropriate."

April Fool's Day, he suggested.

The White House has attempted to cast Limbaugh in the role of spokesman for the Republican Party. The actual spokesman today was equally as dismissive of the president's peace prize.

"The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?' RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement issued today. "It is unfortunate that the president's star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights.''

Steele followed up this evening with a fundraising appeal for the RNC ridiculing Obama's award as the "Prize for Awesomeness.''

"It's a stunning, if not truly surprising, indication of just how meaningless a once honorable and respected award has become,'' Steele told Republicans in a party fund-raising email. "What has President Obama actually accomplished?...

"The Democrats and their international leftist allies want America made subservient to the agenda of global redistribution and control,'' Steele wrote. "And truly patriotic Americans like you and our Republican Party are the only thing standing in their way.'' Make that contribution for " $25, $50, $100, $500 or $1,000,'' he suggested.

Where we were raised, someone who wins a Nobel Peace Prize usually is greeted with something along the lines of, "Congratulations.''

Which raises the question of where the embarrassment lies today.

Druggy Rush + Al-Qaeda = Todays Repoublican Party

If anyone had any doubt about whether or not the GOP has become anti-American, all doubt should now be laid to rest. Rush Limbaugh, the titular head of the Republican Party, slipped into an altered state of bliss after hearing the news that the United States lost its bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics. The man was completely beside himself with glee. God only knows what would have happened if we'd also been attacked - his body fluids would've had to be cleaned off the studio floor. I watched the video of Limbaugh's antics over and over again in total disbelief. It's literally unbelievable what's happened to the Republican Party.

This man is not a true Republican, and comes nowhere close to representing conservative values. No true conservative would celebrate an American loss of anything, no matter what the competition, who we were competing against, or what the circumstances were surrounding the competition. You can say what you want about the Republican Party and conservatism, and I've said a lot of mean things, but a true conservative ALWAYS comes to the defense of America.

For those progressives who are too young to understand my breaking ranks to come to the defense of conservatism, it's important to understand that as a baby boomer I know and understand the conservative mind-set, because as baby boomers we all started out raised as conservatives - society was geared that way.

For baby boomers, the first thing we did when we arrived at school was to recite the pledge of allegiance; the second thing was to recite the Lord's Prayer. Then after the Lord's Prayer it was social studies, where we learned that America never loses, has never done anything wrong, and anyone who said differently was evil. That's conservatism, and I believed every syllable until I became old enough to start thinking for myself.

During the fifties all children were raised with the very same values. So just like any other child in America, I pulled for the cowboys against the Indians, and rode with John Wayne as we single-handedly slaughtering the bad guys - which was anyone who didn't happen to look, think, or act like us. And as I looked up at the screen, even as a Black child, I was completely convinced that I was a part of "us." It was only later in life that I began to recognize that I represented "them."

It was only due to the shock of that recognition that many of us became progressives. We made it our mission in life to turn the conservative myth of America into a reality. So the difference between true conservatives (as oppose to racists) and progressives wasn't a disagreement over the American ideal, but whether that ideal was a reality.

So I throughly understand the conservative mind-set - been there, done that. Conservatives can be insensitive, and in my opinion, delusional about what America represents, but the Republican Party has always been fiercely patriotic. So I can say without hesitation that Limbaugh, Beck, and these current batch of demagogues who currently run the GOP are definitely NOT true conservatives, or conservatives of any definition.

There was a time when a Dick Cheney wouldn't have even been able to work as a gofer in the Republican Party. A true conservative would've never put up with a man who took five deferments to avoid defending this nation then publically admitting that he didn't serve this country because "I had other priorities." Yet, in today's Republican Party he was able to make that statement without a bit of shame, even as he lectured America on patriotism. A true conservative would never tolerate such a man - one who, now that he doesn't have to put his own life on the line, wants to teach us how to protect America. Such a man would never be allowed to carry the Republican banner.

Can anyone imagine Cheney telling General Eisenhower that I didn't defend my country because "I had other priorities"? Ike would have told him in no uncertain terms that there ARE no priorities more important than serving your country. And there's absolutely no doubt that if Ike was president Cheney would have been shot for outing a CIA agent. Ike didn't play that, because he was a true conservative. He had a set of convictions that didn't vary as the wind blows, and he had the courage of those convictions. Unlike Beck, or Rush Limbaugh who avoided serving this country by claiming a boil on his ass, Ike was the kind of man that one could have serious disagreements with, but still feel compelled to call sir.

And this is not just hyperbole. Think about it. Is there anyone who was alive during the fifties and sixties who believe that conservatives would have allowed the Republican Party to be taken over by draft dodgers, and worse yet, allow draft dodgers to send our troops to a senseless death? I don't think so.

Even as a progressive, as a former marine I think I'm safe in going on record for Ike and every American in Arlington Cemetery as saying that it is unforgivable that America let our young troops and their families down by letting this bunch of demagogues send these young people to an untimely grave. And for what? The horrible, and inescapable fact are, they died for no other reason than to enrich a bunch of cronies who made it a point not only avoid their own military service, but also made very sure that their children avoided it as well.

Conservatives? No, I don't think so. These are a bunch of conspirators against America who used the nation's pain over 911 to victimize this nation and accommodate their own greed. Like the vultures they are, they decided to not let a good crisis go to waste.

And they knew exactly what they were doing. As the bodies of our brave young troops were carried off the battlefield, they were honored in secret, because the dishonorable men who sent them to their deaths didn't want America to see the true price of their vulturous greed. For if these young people did indeed die for this country, and not simple greed, where were the bodies of the sons and daughters of those who sent them? Aren't they also patriots, and don't they also love this country? Of course they do, but their job is to luxuriate in the lobbies to country clubs giving lip service and drinking toasts to the brave sacrifice of the dead little people.

So does this batch of GOP scoundrels truly love America? Let's take a look at that through a simple analogy. For the sake of this discussion, let's think of America as a football team. Suppose a member of our team didn't like the coach and was angered because he had to ride the bench during the Super Bowl. What would you think of him if he started openly pulling for the other team, then once our team lost, he ran out on the field and started dancing and celebrating? Could he ever convince you that in spite of his actions, he loved our team? I don't think so.

Well, that's exactly what's taking place in America with Limbaugh, Beck, and all of their new-and-revised Republican colleagues. So as progressives, we should stop referring to these insurrectionist turncoats as conservatives, because by doing so do a gross disservice to a long and honorable tradition, and a LOYAL opposition - even though we may seriously disagree with the tenets of that tradition.

If these neo-fascists were truly representative of conservative thought, Barack Obama would not be in office today. Let there be no doubt about it. This man was not elected by progressives alone.

As a close friend of mine said:

''What happened to just being proud of a fellow countryman or woman? it seems to me, anyone who thinks of themselves as a "patriot" ought to be pleased as punch about this, because it is good for our country.

Like Obama or not, maybe it's time to stop being an adversary for a day and just be happy for us all''

But no! The right is mouthing off with furor over their own President for winning this prestegious award for not just him but for our country and the hope of peace and prosperity for all!

You people have no shame in you and no sense of moral gratitude when its due. And you wonder why people from around the world and your own backyard cant stand you??

I find your posts and attitude unterly repulsive and un-patriotiv at its best!

Poor old fat man, Obama is going to drive him into the funny farm. At least he'll be rich when he gets there.

Thanks, Limbaugh. Now, go back to your oxycontin and your pre-screened callers, you miserable, stupid piece of human filth. You are way out of your league...again

Rush Limbaugh? Ha Ha Ha!!!!

Michael Steele is a racist.

A-MAZ-ING! Although I'm afraid to say and its unfortunate, that most of the people who have shamed Americans today with their horribly un- patriotic behavior, will not be able to read or understand or have the attention span to fully understand your post.

Unbelievable what's coming out of these peoples mouths with such disrespect and disdain towards their own Presidnet for gods sakes!

Shameful!!

Why do republicans hate America and Americans?

David Freddoso is now suggesting that Obama loyalists swamp the online Heisman trophy voting as well.

Obama for the Heisman!

And if you don't support this, you're a racist.

And if you don't support this, you're a racist.

Maybe you are...maybe your not.....but I won't expect you to stand up if you see it as you are in bed together.

I think we need to create a Limbaugh War Prize and award it to individual who shall have done the most or the best work for Violence between nations, for the enlargement of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of Wars. Clearly the first winner would be George W. Bush for his great dedication to the institution of war around the workld. Every American would be proud to see a former President honored for his promotion of war and militarism and his rejection of the dangerous and evil notion of Peace.

The only way us Right Wing Wingnutters can defeat Obama is by race baiting. Thank you, oh great Rush!

Russ Limbaugh is the American embarrassment !
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRINg THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Given Limpbaugh's and the GOP's attrocious record on race relations and his comment when he was on ESPN, surely it would be remarkable for the NFL to encourage him to be a team owner. I can't believe they would let him buy the Rams.

Good for the players who have stepped up and said they won't play on any team owned by Rush!

What happened to Country First?

The Europeans are trying to control Obama through flattery... and it just might work.

What do you expect from a drug-addled racist?

But who are Nelson Mandela, YunusKofi Annan, Hamid Karzai, Nicolas Sarkozy, Mikhail Gorbachev, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Martti Ahtisaari, 2008 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Rebiya Kadeer, Zabihullah Mujahid, Mohamed ElBaradei, Sami Abu Zuhri, Saeb Erekat, Morgan Tsvangirai, Ali Abkar Javanfekr, Shimon Peres and José Manuel Barroso compared to that great humanitarian and future owner of the Rams, that expert on all things that really matter like caloric consumption, family values, committed relationships and drug abuse – Rush Limbaugh? Talk about embarrassment.

I'm laughing at Limbaugh today!!!

Looks like there is real momentum against him owning the team. Perhaps there are racist owners in the NFL, but are they feeding racism to millions of Americans everyday? There is a big difference. Karma sucks don't it Rush! Hahahahahaha!

Why are all the websites showing up with the same phrases. "Republicans hate America" "Al Qaeda and Republicans on same side". It's as if you were all given your marching... er posting orders and you all repeat it like parrots. Even Obama supporters are surprised by this unwarranted award. Obama is not America, he is fortunate to be our leader. One can disagree, even dislike the president without disliking America or have you all forgotten the past 8 years under Bush? What happened to dissent is patriotic? You can't have it both ways.

Oh I'm really concerned about the Repuglican Parties feelings after this. I'm concerned that their hurt "feelings" are going to end up being the incitement for the shooting of a doctor providing women's health care or that of a guard at the Holocaust museum.

But I guess thank God none of that has happened yet.

Oh, wait...

@Fat man Limbaugh - leader of todays GOP

I think that was the most accurate and intelligent thing I've read about the Republicans in years. I've been trying to understand what it was that seemed different about them all, and you nailed it.

I wrote a blog today stating that the true "new patriots" are the Democrats. I live in Arizona and the attitude in this state is disgusting. On Sept. 11th there were more American flags being flown upside down, or the "Don't Tread on Me" flag being flown than our own flag. The few that were flying the American flag, didn't have it at half-mast.

Maybe it's "just a flag", but to me, a born and bred Conservative Democrat, it's a symbol of what is happening to our society. I've never experienced such animosity from the Conservatives. It's as if they've completely lost focus and direction. Years past, I was honestly dead-center as far as party offiliation. Not anymore.

Anyway, thank you for your post. Please let me know if it would be okay if I copied it to my blog, with your "handle", of course.

Oh, and, thank you so much for your service...from a Marine Mom. Semper Fi...truly.

What happened to dissent is patriotic? You can't have it both ways.

Posted by: Fallon | October 9, 2009 6:05 PM

I see....NOW dissent is patriotic..........funny...I only remember the Unpatriotic name calling. How's that gander saying go?

So. We actually give credit to the sound of poor loosers? The Noble prize has actually been given to Carter... and Gore????Can we get this into prospective before we errupt in meaningless yelling and screaming?

The Nobel achieved embarrassment status after they awarded it to Yasser Arafat.

This thread is about the funniest stuff I have ever read in my life! Waitwut has about the funniest line: that the new patriots are Democrats! What a friggin farce!
Nominations for this prize had to have been in by Feb. 1. Obama had been president all of 10 days? So, what did he do in 10 days that created peace? What peace treaties did he sign? What treaties period did he sign? What war did he prevent? Even nine months into his presidency, those same questions still apply.
Even "normal" liberals are shocked about this. And rightly so. Obama has done nothing to earn it, absolutely nothing. Limbaugh is correct, though. This award is designed to steer Obama in the direction these nitwits want for the U.S. And Obama obliged by stating that he got this award to follow a certain path and that he will follow that path. The folks in Iran, Russia, China, Venezuela, Somalia, Rwanda and other troubled or bellicose spots are now cheering and high-fiving each other because the U.S. officially has become neutered and the despots will be able to do what they choose and no one will stop them.
Lefties, you will never be patriots. You never were, you still aren't, nor will you ever be. If the Left today was in charge 70 years ago, Germany would be ruling Europe and Japan the Pacific Basin. Heck, the U.S. probably would be divided up between the Japanese and Nazi Germans.
What an absolute farce this award is and what an absolute farce the Left is.

Q.)"Why do republicans hate America and Americans?"

A.) Just following the lead of dear leader peace pipe.

The nominations for this award were due two weeks after Obama was sworn in. It doesn't make someone a racist for thinking that this award should have gone to someone who actually accomplished something and not someone who has promised to accomplish something. Excellent comment, Fallon. It reminded me of the Dixie Chicks' reaction to the backlash of their anti-Bush comments. This is America and they had every right to say what they said. But, people also had the right to voice their disagreement. I did not vote for Obama, but I still want him to be a good president because he's the one we've got. I hope he does accomplish something someday that makes him worthy of this award.

Hey, Rush -- go take another one of your "happy" pills and wash it down with some bourbon. You'll feel better in the morning.

But the sound that you hear is your wacko, tight control of the Republican Party circling the toilet bowl on its way to the sewer. I trust that all Republicans who are not brain washed by your nonsense can see how hateful you are.

You libs are missing the point. What did BHO do to deserve the award? He was nominated 12 days into his presidency for doing nothing but being BHO and being elected. This is just a clear exposure that the Nobel people couldn't wait to elect Him just because he is Him...

I wonder who screwed him up his mother or his father?

Limbaugh needs to start exercising, the high level of fat content is affecting his brain.

Obama deserves the price for wanting to end the wars, closing gitmo alone!

Now if we can keep from from being dissuaded by the military leaders Bush left, the world will be a better place!

Limbaugh should just SHUT UP and go wistle!!! He should just go hide and never come out again. He is an extremist and should shut up once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's rich that RushCo and the cons in general are siding with Hamas, Iran, the Palestinians, the Taliban et all in condemning Obama for being awarded this unsought honor.

Rush even attacks the Norwegians, and Europeans for awarding this prize, not the mid-East radicals that also hate Obama.

Thanks cons and Rush, Becky, Hunnity, for showing your true colors. You really do hate America.

Every time I think the Dems have screwed up so bad that they have lost it all, the Repimplican leaders screw it up even worse.

Looks like '10 is safe and '12 will be another electoral holocaust for the Grand Old Zombie Party.

Obama and the Noble people deserve each other. Both are arrogant anti-American jerks.

Only Liberal idiots win that prize anymore.

Obama should be embarrassed to accept it. But he is too much of an egomaniac to do the right thing.

How much crack did Obama smoke. I read attacks on Limbaugh about his drug use, they forgot about Obama's.

Fat Man: best thing I've ever read in the swamp. Thanks.

You know it's interesting to see all the comments from the alleged "compassionate Left that believes you shouldn't comment about people's appearance" who continually mock Limbaugh as fat. Hey Loons, Limbaugh is NOT fat. In fact, he has lost about 80 pounds and weighs a little bit over 200 now. But what about Fat Loony Lefties Michael Moore, Al Franken, Barney Frank, Jerold Nadler, when he was alive the Liberal Lion himself, Ted Kennedy? All those guys are fatter than a pack of pigs in slop.

Boo hoo hoo, da poor Weepubwicanns are cwying der eyes out becaws Obamwa won da peace pwize.
Oh dat poor poor Gwenn is gonna cwy da snot out of his wittle nose.

What the Hey! People in this world, at least, are starting to talk to us again! That is a tremendous start. Hey Rush, pop another pain pill or two and go out and buy a nascar! whiteagle38

Giving Obama the peace prize is a joke, but the last thing we need is a racist like Rush Limbaugh calling him out. Obama could wake up and say he loves America and Limbaugh would criticize him for it.

Obama won the same prize as Yasser Arafat, terrorist.

And you folks are PROUD of that?

You are American, are you not?

Let's all hate America together, kumbaya.

No matter what the man does, he will be wrong.

Posted by: Fat man Limbaugh - leader of todays GOP | October 9, 2009 2:42 PM

I think you should send your post to the editor and have it printed on the opinion page. It was right on.

Even standing on the tallest ladder he could find, craning his obese neck to its fullest extension, extending his foul tongue to the max, Limbaugh could not even touch Obama's SHOES.

Anyone read "Left Behind" maybe you should. But I was rolling over laughing after hearing the news of Obama's winning the Peace Prize. Although I know of no one person who actually deserves that prize. So little peace in the world currently and those who really want it. I'm a Democrat & black, who didn't vote for him. Now what would you like to call me. You judge people for there opinions, you may not like mine, I may not like yours. But excepting and maybe seeing each others views can only improve your knowledge. I'm still waiting to see Obama accomplish something other then putting this country in deeper debt. And promising to remove our troops from one country only to probably place them in another. There are many things I could say why I don't like or trust the man. But I could say that of most of the Presidents this country has had. I do have to say he loves the limelight, makes you wonder if he's in natural campaign mood or hoping for his own TV show. He's become more of a celebrity lIke Oprah then a President. And he sure is enjoying using as much fuel as possible in that plane that never seems to stay grounded longer then a day. In the months he's been in office, how many days has he been in the white house. Maybe he's enjoying the time he has visiting the countries he can while it lasts. You never know what tomorrow may bring. I do have to say before I close that racism on both sides seems to have increased, and the division of political parties. Wither in the long run if it's a good thing that democracy may finally resolve and become a possible one party or their maybe more liberals theirs no telling. And maybe getting total equality between all races with no special interest groups. Now to me other then peace in the world if Obama could accomplish that....hell I'd give him the Prize myself for that.

I'm ashamed that Obama won the same prize as the Terrorist thug Menachem Begin.

Obama must be doing something right if Jabba the Rush has his panties in a wad. On the other hand, when doesn't Rush have his panties in a wad. I'm happy for Obama and it would be good to note that while nominations for the Peace Prize ended 2/1, that doesn't mean that the committee was sequestered and didn't see anything that happened after that date in making their decision. Also, they had 200+ nominees, so it must have taken some time. Read elsewhere that the final decision was made recently. The argument that BHO was in office only 12 days and that is the basis for their decision is ridiculous. Would also like to say that those who want to see him first effect global peace, not only in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, but also in Kashmir, between Armenia and Turkey and in Nagorno-Karabak, between N. and S. Korea, China and Taiwan, Israel and Palestine, US & Iran, Sudan, etc., must truly think that Obama is the Messiah. No previous Nobel prize winners were able to do all that, even Carter who got Israel and Egypt to the table, so why the double standard? Those who are mocking Obama as the "Messiah" are conversely blaming him for not being able to solve all the world's problems (whether the US was involved or not) within 9 months. I want some of what they're smoking--it must be great stuff. Maybe that's what's in Rush's secret stash!

Mark Twain once informed us that, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”

As the world awakens to the news of President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize, my advice for the truth is to just throw the pants back into the closet and hit the snooze button.

What’s next, a posthumous Medal of Honor for George W. Bush?
The arguments for Obama’s earnestness of this award are strangely vague and riddled with half-truths. They are inconsistent and inflationary. They neither gauge real world impact, nor weigh Obama’s military actions against his hyped and hollow rhetoric.

And worst of all, they are baffling when justifying his nomination in the first place, which occurred only twelve days after he took office.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, winner of the prize in 1984 for his work to abolish apartheid in South Africa, remarked of Obama, "He has had a very significant impact. [His presidency] has changed the temperature, and almost everybody feels a little more hopeful about the world."

This would be true if “everybody” included everyone except Americans.

A Rasmussen poll taken this October reported that a paltry 31% of likely voters think the United States is headed in the right direction.

Seems more like “hopeless” instead of “hopeful.”

As for the temperature? I’m sure it’s changed. It’s probably getting hotter and hotter, little by little, day by day, as the world fails to come up with a plan to eliminate man made global warming.

Regardless of the fact that Obama and his democratic congress have yet to pass a bill addressing CO2 emissions in America, and despite the absence of an agreement between world powers on what to do about our ever deteriorating climate, its reported that a major reason for Obama wining the peace prize was that “ in Europe and much of the world… Obama is praised for bringing the U.S. closer to mainstream global thinking on such issues as climate change...”

How low must the bar be set for our president to qualify for worldwide approval?
By simply acknowledging to the rest of the world that what roughly 90% of scientists say about global warming is true, Obama receives absurdly unwarranted acclaim.

It seems they are not comparing Obama to past winners of the peace prize, heroic diplomats or eloquent environmental activists, but to our previous deficient president, a man who had a book written during his presidency literally titled, “The Republican War on Science.”

This is an awesomely low standard for Obama to be measured against.

“He has no contribution so far. He is only beginning to act," said former Polish President Lech Walesa of Obama. Walesa won the peace prize in 1983.

Obama’s senior adviser and good friend David Axelrod even admitted, “It’s nothing anyone expected.”

Obama’s openness to communicating with adversaries was also seen as a reason for his award. Former peace price winner Mohamed ElBaradei said of the president, "He has shown an unshakable commitment to diplomacy, mutual respect and dialogue as the best means of resolving conflicts."

Obama’s tone toward the rest of the world is definitely not same as Bush’s (which was standoffish to the say the least). Its quite easier talking to a soft-spoken upbeat character like Obama then it is to the Jesus loving illiterate cowboy that Bush was.

However, it was Martin Luther King Jr.’s belief that, “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” So long as America remains an occupying force in the Middle East we will create, not quell, violence. And as long as America remains a friend to oppressive governments worldwide (more on this later), we should be hesitant to associate the words “justice” or “peace” with Obama.

Admittedly, many of the committee members who voted for Obama did so based on his potential for creating a more peaceful world. Off the top of my head I can’t think of any other award on earth where we do this; rookie of the year isn’t going to the Los Angeles Clippers Blake Griffin just because he had the most pre-draft hype, and no one is crowning the New York Yankees World Series champs just because they look good on paper. The only person who probably thinks this award makes sense is San Francisco 49er draft-holdout Michael Crabtree.

A closer look at the peace prize committee reveals it can no longer escape its dwindling credibility. Its history bears the burden of an embarrassing scorecard; of missed opportunities and a blind eye toward justice.

They have acknowledged such imperialist thinkers as Henry Kissinger, a man who argued vociferously the necessity of sending American troops to Vietnam despite the wars architect, Robert McNamara, admitting decades later (and after three million Vietnamese had died) that the conflict was a total waste.

Surpassing the egregiousness of awarding Kissinger with the peace prize was overlooking Mahatma Gandhi despite his being nominated five separate times. Throughout Kissinger’s years of public advocacy for America’s unilateral intervention against communism, he never once put his life on the line for such a belief. Gandhi was not only imprisoned but also beaten mercilessly on his way to becoming the first man in history to successfully lead his country in the nonviolent overthrow of a brutal empire.

And yes, he did it all while wearing a diaper.

If promoting peace and nonviolence are credentials for earning this award, it is even more fraudulent Gandhi did not win. Consider that his literature was in large part responsible for inspiring the young black son of an Atlanta preacher. That boy was named Martin Luther King Jr.

Without him, this nation would still be attempting to finish the job of Reconstruction that Abraham Lincoln began roughly one hundred and fifty years ago; the job of granting all people of color equal rights and the protection of the constitution.

But awarding Obama the peace prize not only adds to the Nobel Committee’s questionable reputation and history, it dares to redefine the word “peace” as we know it.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle teaches us that the meaning of words comes from their essence - the connections human beings make to those words.

If the word “peace” comes to represent a man guilty of intensifying war, then we are fast entering an Orwellian chapter of world history. I must politely set aside Obama’s silver-tongued words of diplomacy, and in a Jeffersonian like list of grievances, remind the reader of the imperial, militaristic actions Obama is responsible for as president.

• He has allocated $1.3 billion in military aid for the government of Egypt, which is guilty of repressing the rights of opposition media, refugees, women, and until recently, denying the mere existence of homosexuality.

• He has kept pre-emptive military action against Iran an option for solving disputes over the use of the countries nuclear facilities

• He has planned to provide military aid to African nations such as Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Nigeria and Somalia so that they may buy weapons from the United States, all in the name of the “war on terror”

• He has allocated close to $600 billion for the United States Pentagon, continuing America’s policy of being the largest military spender in the world

• He has provided the corrupt government of Pakistan with billions of dollars in military aid, money that has historically been used for Pakistan’s build up of arms in a “cold war” with India

• He has sent an additional 36,000 troops to the war in Afghanistan

• He has refused an expedient military exit from the nation of Iraq, vowing only to completely withdrawal American forces by the end of 2011 despite roughly 64% of Americans opposing the war and the majority of Iraqis requesting our immediate departure

• He has continued the payments of hundreds of millions of dollars to the mercenary company formerly known as “Blackwater” and has also purchased their services in both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan despite the companies well documented unethical behavior and murder of innocent civilians

I don’t suppose I can make my disbelief of the Nobel Committee’s decision any more clearer than pointing out that they just gave one of the worlds most prestigious peace awards to someone who hires mercenaries.

This list of Obama’s actions does not represent potential, unless that potential is for a continuation of Bush policies.

And to me these actions don’t earn you a Nobel Peace Prize; they disqualify you from ever receiving one.

"Gee, sorry republicnan/conservatives. Maybe when they have Nobel: Destruction/Immoral War/Torutue award, you'll win something. Posted by syj"

"syj", perhaps you should learn to spell "republican" before commenting. And "Torutue" award?????

The above is all you need to know about the intellect, and spelling abilities, of the Far Left Obama supporters.

"Where we were raised, someone who wins a Nobel Peace Prize usually is greeted with something along the lines of, "Congratulations.'' Mark Silva"

Mark, where we were raised, you actually had to accomplish something prior to being given an award.

May I remind you Bruce...if you have to resort to spelling...you have already lost the argument.

Ps....Please check my spelin!

John D, yeah you nailed it, they are fat too.

It reminds me of the bible story of Jesus and the woman at the well. As a foreigner she was able to recognize the qualities of Jesus, of which his own people could not. Jesus said that, they would not recognize me unless I show them miracles!

It reminds me of the bible story of Jesus and the woman at the well. As a foreigner in samaria she was able to recognize the qualities of Jesus, of which his own people could not. Jesus said that, they would not recognize me unless I show them miracles!

Even when Jesus showed them miracles many still denied him - even today. Obama will and shall never please Rush, so why worry about him. He makes his living by doing nothing other than being critical of the Dems and particularly the Dem president, regardless who it is. He did the same for Bill and Hillary.

The WH must have all their EE's busy web posting nasty things about Rush and the GOP, making it look like regular people posting their opinions.

Watch out people, control freaks like the WH can turn into an abusive relationship. Look at Venezuela and Argentina and their new media laws!

If people don't like Rush or Glenn Beck then don't watch them, period. That is why I would never go to Reverend Wright's church, I don't like his "hate" talk but I wouldn't stop Obama and his family from attending for 20 years.

.
In two consecutive posts (counting out the duplicate) you analogize the criticism of Obama by Limbaugh to situations found in the New Testament involving Jesus. I don’t see the analogy. Obama is NOT God, the Messiah, Jesus, an angel, or a prophet; and he doesn’t perform miracles or have super-human wisdom. Please explain your unfortunate use of the Bible as an analogy to Obama’s troubles with Limbaugh.

Spelling? That's the best you can do? You've never heard of typos? I'll bet you could find 100 typos from both democrat and republican supporeters on this thread alone. 1 or 2 typos is actually to be expected.

Blogs are meant for typing fast and thinking fast. We know republicans can't do the latter. You have to wait for what druggy Rush and Nazi Beck tell you.
