The White House says today that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has created or saved about 1 million jobs during its first seven months.

Millions of jobs also have been lost since the start of the recession, with unemployment nearing 10 percent.

But new federal contract data compiled at the <strong>government's Web-site - www.recovery.gov -- suggests that about the economic stimulus which Congress approved one month into President Barack Obama's term has delivered about one third of the new or saved jobs promised so far, according to the White House.

"It is too soon to draw any global conclusions from this partial and preliminary data, as it reports on just $16 billion of the $339 billion in Recovery Act efforts before September 30th, but the early indications are quite positive,'' Chief Economist Jared Bernstein said in a statement released by the White House this morning.

"The direct count by Recovery Act recipients of jobs created or saved from this small percentage of the Recovery Act exceeds our projections,'' he said. "All signs -- from private estimates to this fragmentary data -- point to the conclusion that the Recovery Act did indeed create or save about 1 million jobs in its first seven months, a much needed lift in a very difficult period for our economy.''

Another, more comprehensive report is due Oct. 30. See the government's Web-site for the federal contracts awarded under the $787-billion stimulus act, how the spending was distributed under the act, and which states have drawn the most spending so far.

The Senate's Republican office today took note of the declaration of exceeding expectations, in light of 3,386,000 jobs also lost between February and September.

I have not seen any indication of jobs being created form the stimulas package. This country will not move forward until we take care of our own and stopp giving everything to other countries, like China.

A couple of points about this. First, if the "Stimulus Plan" were really working as intended, the Administration wouldn't have to convince us. We would know. Second, I still don't know what "jobs saved" means, or how one would objectively measure that. Third, too much of the stimulus package was not stimulative at all; but rather, band aids to patch shortfalls in benefits already owed (e.g., Medicaid). Lastly, and in my view, the most disturbing issue, is that the point of the stimulus was to keep unemployment below 8%. It is now around 10%. This means that the Administration really didn't know what it was dealing with. If they didn't know that, how could they know the appropriate size/scope of a stimulus package? The answer is they had no idea, and just took a trillion dollar stab in the dark with borrowed money. I don't doubt that borrowing a trillion dollars and injecting it into a private economy will have some short term benefits to certain areas of the private market, but I continue to believe this was an irresponsible waste of public money that has not met its intended goal.

Kind of like the billions spent on finding WMD's in Iraq right?

You have no problem spending billions of borrowed money on an unjust war based on lies, but you have issues with spending billions of borrowed money to help your own country??

Something wrong with that idealology if you ask me!

How do you track a "saved job"? No really?? Anyone???

The rest of the world has already recovered from the recession. But not the U.S.

Which is why unemployment is near 10%--2% higher than the Obama administration said it would be by now if we passed his pork-laden "Stimulus" bill. 1% higher than if we didn't pass the "stimulus"--according to Obama's own forecasts.

The rest of the world didn't waste their time and money on a Porkulus Bill. Obama's U.S. did.

"White House: Million jobs created, saved"

LIARS!

This could be one of those moments when VP Biden misspeaks.

They claim that they have created and saved jobs but then the facts do not show this.

President Lincoln stated "you can fool all of the people some of the time; you can fool some of the people all of the time; but, you cannot fool all of the people all of the time!"

It appears that VP Biden and the White House are trying "to fool all of the people" but are failing in this effort.

Wrong again Wingnut!

China implemented a major spending program. All major European governments have launched modest initiatives as well. Even Germany, the most reluctant free spender in Europe, has approved two stimulus efforts for a total of about $106 billion. Small by comparison to ours and China's but stimulus packages just the same.

Go back to your Faux News and think of another lie to post!

In the world of obama, the dubious rhetoric of "jobs saved" is an insult to the millions of unemployed and the hundreds of thousands who lost their homes, while the obama's dine on $100.00 a pound kobe beef and get serenaded by professional musicians at the white house.
But, it's ok...look at all the jobs he "saved."

[Wiping away tears]

Haw haw haw, woooh !!!

[ROTFLMAO]

A million jobs saved. Right !! I guess since I'm still employed Obama should add my job to his tally. Or maybe he already did. Talk about your fuzzy math!

Pat H., you quote Lincoln about not being to fool all the people all the time. Have you seen the comments from the Dumbest, Most Ignorant and Most Racist people in the world: the Loony Lefters. They believe this pile of junk!
Unemployment has skyrocketed since Obimbo stimulus plan passed. Economists say unemployment will continue to rise, perhaps into 2012. Economists also say that whatever recovery we get will be a "jobless recovery."
Yet, the buffoons on the Left will believe all the BS Obimbo and his team send their way.
Really, why is the Left so stupid, so racist, so bigoted, so worthless?

You should cut some holes in your white sheet John so you can see the real world! The left is stupid, racist and bigoted?? Is this your attempt at stand up or what?

Nice to see the Obamaland media have bought into the "jobs saved" scam from the White House. Why not credit Obama with saving all 97 million jobs in the country? And those in China, England, France etc. I am so grateful that Obama saved my job. Obviously, I had nothing to do with it.
Hail to Big Brother.

I wouldn't call Obama a liar if he'd just stop lying.

They using fuzzy math? From 8% out of work to 9.8%, do they mean it would of have reached 10%+ if not for them? Help I never got fuzzy math!!!!

.
The unemployment numbers only count those who are still looking for work. They exclude the number of people who have stopped looking for work - and there’s a substantial number of them. If you added those unemployed who’ve stopped looking for work to get the "real" unemployment figure, you would find that unemployment is already well over 10%. This is an example of what you call “fuzzy math.” It’s in the same category of manipulation as the off-budget/on-budget accounting used to represent a ‘budget surplus’ while adding to the debt.
.
But don’t be too hard on Barack Obama and Company for these practices. They have to keep a ‘stiff upper lip’ and a smile. If the truth were given in blunt figures, everyone would panic, the stock market and consumer spending would take a dive, and things would generally get a whole lot worse. So, yeah, they're lying to us, but it’s because they’re trying to do us a favor.

As John W alluded to, look at the U6 figure for the true unemployment picture - 17% was 10.6% a year ago

This is really a joke.

As a federal contractor

1.) The federal government has decided to change the ratio of contractors to government employees from 50:50 to 40:60 - or 32,000 just this year. This boosts their numbers at the expense of the businesses (contractors) supporting the gov't.

2.) A mass modifications to federal contracts as issued at the beginning of this year aimed at forcing the federal contractors to report any or all ARRA dollars spent in part or whole to support (a) saving a job - even partial (b) creating a job.

If I have a FT employee that I now assign to a federal contract - somehow that is saving or creating a job? I think not!. All I am doing is moving a FT employee from one contract to another.

Where is the substance and truth in these reports?

I feel like saying - hey everyone, put on your rose colored glasses, feel better, and everything will work out....argh.
