President Barack Obama summoned his best Jedi Knight gesture for the pardoning of "Courage'' this week, though his younger daughter wasn't ready for the encounter with what one of the girls called "a big chidken.'' White House photo by Lawrence Jackson

It's the pie.
Not the turkey.
Much as we loved the fresh hen we devoured today, it's the pumpkin pie awaiting us, after a three-hour cooling-off period perhaps, that makes the mouth water.
That must be what they were thinking at the White House today, where President Barack Obama and family had about 50 guests in for Thanksgiving -- no gate-crashers that we've heard of yet, assuming that they tightened the perimeter today.
Because not only did they serve this today at the White House, according to the White House: Turkey, Honey-Baked Ham, Cornbread Stuffing, Oyster Stuffing, Greens, Macaroni and Cheese, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes and Green Bean Casserole.
They also served this:
Banana Cream Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Huckleberry Pie
Cherry Pie
The White House says the turkey and pumpkin pie are the president's favorites. The president pardoned a couple of turkeys at the White House this week, another tradition at this time of year. But pardon us this evening, if this sounded like a lot of pie for one table.

Happy Thankgiving all.
And in the spirit of the season, here are some words of wisdom from what's left of the Repukelican party base.

Sure does seem like the Obamas enjoy living it up to the hilt while in the White House. This has been one nonstop party for these two, all on the taxpayer's dime and without a care for those suffering the bad economy.
Narcissistic crass is what we have in the White House today.

The turkey-pardoning is supposed to be a long-running national tradition, but it officially only goes back to George (the Good One) Bush and 1989. Since Thanksgiving is a holiday that’s particularly rich in long-running traditions, 20 years barely counts as an impulsive gesture.
If we want a political tradition, we can do better. Let’s all just gather around the family computer and watch that video of Republican front-runner Sarah Palin discussing Thanksgiving in front of a bloody turkey abattoir.

Hey Mark on a day when Iran balks at UN sanctions once again rubbing it's nuclear ambitions in the world's face I am puzzled that this was the first pc. released by you today...
Maybe if one of those pies in the Whitehouse exploded
you would have your eyes on the ball. It makes sense that Turkey is one of the President's favorites since he is one the big Turkey himself.

Appropriately named Wingnut: I had the day off and figured I'd share some pie. Get a life.

Mark,
Glad you took the day off, even though you found time for a couple of articles. I think Wingnut Master's point is the choice of the article - Thanksgiving dinner at the White House vs Iran balking at UN sanctions.
Also, any idea when the media will pick-up the story on ClimateGate?

President Obama's second holiday pardon just announced.

climategate?
Doesn't the Washington post, and new york times count as the media?
It's a non story anyways. A handful of emails from tens of thousands hardly proves a worldwide conspiracy.
Posted by: martin | November 27, 2009 1:40 PM
Terry, as you probably suspect, the U.S. media will not be picking up on the Cimategate e-mails, except perhaps to attack the hackers. Otherwise, they will just ignore it. For instance, the NY Times says it will not cover the story because the e-mails were illegally hacked and "not intended for the public eye." Course, those same criteria were not employed in regard to Sarah Palin e-mails being hacked or intelligence memos on Al Qaeda or countless other stories done over the years pertaining to information media recieved that was "not intended for the public eye."

The Obam'a should have skipped Thanksgiving, just as I'm sure John D did. Or just another example of someone who will complain about anything that our President does, no matter how ridiculous or minor.

That seemed to me to be a story, in the MSM. You can also easily find it covered in a wide array of news sources, from Huffington Post to Fox News.

I see the hypocritical First Amendment Fighters the Chicago Tribune are at it again
The very same weekend the Chicago Tribune editorializes against the censorship at Stevenson High School, the Chicago Tribune continue to sensor my post about all the days off Obama has taken in less than one year.
Classic.
And, wrong as usual, I'm not asking for the Obamas to skip Thanksgiving, but 50+ guests? Following one of the most expensive State Dinners ever? For a White House that holds regular parties with high-priced talant while millions of Americans are suffering? If it was Bush who was doing this, the morons on the Left would be having a herd of cows and Silva would be foaming at the mouth worse than Yeller.
Oh, "wrong as usual," I had a most wonderful Thanksgiving with family, eating, conversing and playing games.
