In the new debut of Sarah Palin, whose first round of national media interviews didn't turn out so well, the Republican from Alaska readily acknowledges how far things went South in her talks with CBS News' Katie Couric.
Palin appears on The Oprah Winfrey Show today, on the eve of the formal publication of a book, Going Rogue, that has leaked like the Exxon Valdez before its scheduled release Tuesday.
The Democratic National Committee today is calling Palin's tour part of the "ongoing soap opera'' that is the GOP.
In her interview with Winfrey, Palin speaks of that interview with Couric early in Palin's campaign for the White House with presidential candidate John McCain.
"The campaign said, 'Right on. Good. You're showing your independence. This is what America needs to see and it was a good interview,'' the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee recalls of the CBS encounter. "
"And of course I'm thinking, 'If you thought that was a good interview, I don't know what a bad interview is because I knew it was a bad interview.'"
Levi Johnston, the estranged father of Palin's grandson, Tripp, apparently gets no mention in Palin's 400-plus page memoir. But Winfrey asked about him, wondering whether the boy's father will be welcome at the Palin home at Thanksgiving.
"That is a great question,'' Palin replies. " It is lovely that he would even consider such a thing, because of course, he is a part of the family. I think he needs to know that he is loved."
Before heading out for a cross-country book-tour off the beaten path of big cities, starting in Grand Rapids, Mich., this week, Palin also sat for an interview with ABC News' Barbara Walters, who apparently has not put Palin to the sort of test that ABC's Charles Gibson did when he asked Palin during the campaign about "the Bush Doctrine.''
Walters asks Palin about the anonymous McCain staffers who called her a "diva" and a narcissist after the campaign ended.
"For some people, this is a business," Palin replies, in the interview with Walters, excerpts airing on Good Morning America and Nightline on Tuesday, and in full on 20/20 Friday night.
"And if failure in this business was going to reflect poorly on them,'' Palin tells Walters, "they had to pack their own parachutes and protect themselves and their reputations, so they wouldn't be blamed.
" I'll take the blame, though,'' Palin says of that losing campaign. "At the end of the day, I know what the truth is."
"Sarah Palin's desire to settle old scores, while doing little to add to her credibility, does generously add to the on-going soap opera that is the Republican party,'' the DNC's Hari Sevugan said today. "We wish her the best of luck on her tour."

Liberal media bias???? That notion is completely laughable when you consider there is a hit piece on Obama bowing to the Japanese Emperor and not ONE article about the Republican National Committee's insistance that there health plans provide BENEFITS for abortions! Since 1991!!!!
Posted by: janet | November 16, 2009 10:39 AM
Hey Janet, news flash. The abortion provision was an opt out provision that no one exercised. If no one knew about it or used the "benefit" who cares?
It is not a hit piece when an ignorant adolescent continues his appeasement tour by bowing to a foreign figurehead. It was not a cultural thing as some lib fools have mentioned, it is a complete breach of protocol. No other world leaders bow like a little boy proud to show off their knowledge of another culture and then doing something completely inappropriate.
As for Scottie, you libs sure get worked up over someone so obviously insignificant and irrelevant. What's the matter Scottie, feeling threatened by a woman who has accomplished more than your messiah? If she wasn't so effective at pointing out the complete stupidity and morally bankrupt nature of liberalism, I doubt you'd be taking the time to comment.

I'm with you on this one Janet! But if I didnt know better I'm inclined to think they're holding off reporting on this means they're waiting for a better opportunity to bring it up. Perhaps before the '10 election cycle begins? But at least we have something else that disproves those accusations coming from the right. I'm curious, was anything about this mentioned on FAUX News? Or from those presumed conservatives Beck and Rush? Hmmmm..

Palin's favor ability has moved little even as the president has slipped back to reality. And her behavior has continued to be completely removed from what Americans want and expect from presidential candidates.
She had better think about a long-term TV or book career, because she will never be president...

Palin? Really? Can't she just crawl back under some rock in Alaska? Soccer mom my rear-end! No way, no how, NO PALIN!
Posted by: Meesh | November 16, 2009 11:39 AM
So Janet, have you counted the number of articles critical of Palin since the announcement of her book compared to those critical of Obama in the same time period??
Posted by: FLZapped | November 16, 2009 12:27 PM
AP has assigned 11 of its reporters to fact check Governor Palin's book and they only found six "errors",
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/lachlan-markay/2009/11/15/eleven-ap-reporters-turn-little-palin-fact-check
I wonder if those same 11 AP reporters could read something of AlGore's and find six FACTS.
Janet, Scottie, Billy and all other liberal whiners:

This is a major embarrasment to the republicons and they fully well know it. Imagine all that grandstanding.and lip-service....we're pro-life and we vote...and the RNC pays for abortions.. I asked a teabagger associate yesterday what he thought of this rank hypocricy and his reply was to avoid answering my question and instead ask me why Obama won't put his own family into a *public option* insurance plan.
I am pro-life, too but not a republicon. This unsettling bit of news should serve as yet more proof that the GOP is not the party of God as some of them still choose to believe but rather crooks and liars wrapped up in patriotism and God.
Additionally, IMHO the corporate aristocrats are using the anti-abortion movement to derail healthcare reform, knowing fully well the Hyde Amendment prohibits federally funded abortions. They will use anyone and anything to keep things as they are.

Terry, the AP found TWELVE lies in her book, not six.

Medical records are PRIVATE!! That talking point you are reporting is BS. We don't know who had abortions any more than we know who got a colonoscopy last year. Stop lying!!
Posted by: janet | November 16, 2009 5:08 PM
Hey Janet, so the anti abortion repubs have coverage for something they don't need, that is just like my insurance covering maternity costs I will never incur. Wow, and this is what keeps you idiots awake at night?
By the way, I don't report talking points, I don't need a government run propaganda machine to tell me how to think, although in your case it seems to be a necessary crutch. BTW, you can't prove anyone used their abortion coverage or that the RNC was even aware it was available, which pretty much makes your fake outrage moot.
Why don't you tell us how the white house fool's uncontrollable urge to bow to foreign leaders promotes a positive image for this country. What's the response going to be now? He didn't bow or it's a protocol that only he follows?

Terry obviously you missed our point you moron. We are complaining that nothing was mentioned on the Liberally leaning looney Swamp as you all love to call it. And here is the perfect opportunity to slam the right wing hypocracy with this issue and .. nothing...I guess the Swamp isnt so controlled by the looney left as much as you claim. and obviously there are more than 4 articles on the internet regarding this disclosure of hypocracy. Just wondering why not on the Swamp.
Posted by: Scot S. Blakeley | November 16, 2009 6:28 PM
Scottie,
Wasn't aware that it was understood in Janet's post that the SWAMP was the only "Liberal media" being referred to. I guess that's a frequemcy you loons have with your tin-foil hats.
Just think if those AP reporters get a chance to go thru the health care bill. They will find a lot of fertilizer.
