All they want to do is light a tree.
But the Obamas will have plenty of help on Thursday for their first lighting of the National Christmas Tree erected between the White House and Washington Monument.
Singer Sheryl Crow is booked to perform at the tree lighting.
So are Common, Jordin Sparks, Ray LaMontagne and Celtic Woman, as well as jazz musicians Brad Mehldau and Joshua Redman.
Oh, and the president and first lady will be there, too.
Until the sun goes down on the National Mall's boulevards.

Cheryl Crow just recently adopted one of the Mustang horses that Obama and Sec. of the Interior, Salazar, want to force off our public lands in the West. Merry Christmas. Obama and Salazar's plan will, in the end, kill off many of the wild mustang and burrows that were to be protected by The 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act.

I spoke today with Bridget Lewis, contact rep for the Bureau of Land Mgmnt-under the Dept of Interior. (866) 468 7826. Ms. Lewis said Salazar will use helicopters to round up 2400 to 2700 Mustangs this December. 20+ days from now. The animals will then be crammed into large cattle trailers/trucks and transported to Palamino Valley, Nevada for "processing". The Catoor Group has been "contracted to haul" the mustangs. The most irresponsible part of the entire action is that there is no plan as to where the Mustangs will be relocated to. Ms. Lewis of the BLM, said there was "nowhere to put them yet". Why remove animals that were entrusted to the Dept of the Interior from their natural habitats--just to hold them for "up to THREE YEARS" in pens? While being processed, the females will be given shots of PZP for birth control.

Ms. Lewis said the reason for removing the 37,000 wild Mustangs and Burros from the West was due to lack of grazing food for them there. There are 20 million acres of wold horse habitat on public lands. Seems like enough to me for 37,000 horses. Funny, there are 8 million grazing livestock owned by private ranchers on our same public lands. The gov't took land away from the horses from the 1971 Act--the law-- and gave it to for-profit, private ranchers. The citizens of America won't see profit from the 8 M livestock raised on our land. Obama and Salazar will hurt and kill the few Mustang left so private corporations can profit. Merry Christmas. Obama is Bush squared.

While the Mustang are waiting for a place to be relocated, the BLM will allow any person or corporation to adopt up to four Mustangs per year. Once the animals are adopted, and a one year period has passed, the adopters may do what they want with the Mustangs. Selling the animals for slaughter and dog food is still legal under Obama and Salazar. Merry Christmas. Obama could pass a Presidential Order to prevent this.

The Dept of Interior is responsible to protect the wild and free Mustang. They are not in business to protect ranchers, or their profits. Oddly, Anheuser-Busch and HP have leased lands from the Mustang public land area, also. ??? There is so much wrong with this. Obama is creating more sadness in what is left of America. Merry Christmas. Give the Mustang back their land and stop killing them with all the political BS. I hope Cheryl Crow discusses this with Mrs. Obama and the girls.

I hate the BS lies for war and the lazy, stupid Pentagon for the past 8 1/2 years. But I hate worse the killing of beautiful things that are our heritage-- the things on our soil now that were there before any politician thought they knew better, or thought they'd do favors for special interest, for-profit groups. Re: the mustangs and Sheryl Crow: Interior Sec. Salazar will go to Copenhagen w/ Obama and he will be a keynote speaker there. Title of Salazar's upcomming speech is 'New Energy Future: The role of public lands in clean energy production and carbon capture'. Merry Christmas. The private ranchers' 8 million livestock will still be on those public lands, but our publically held wild and free mustangs will be run off and traumatized, injured or killed. BTW, WildEarth Guardians released a report stating Sec. Salazar and the DOI are responsible for the greatest share of greenhouse gas emissions in the USA. This is due to strip mining of federally owned coal in WY--the largest producer of coal--bigger than Appalacia. So--Salazar--to Copenhagen--talks 'clean' energy--renewable?--yet shows, not tells world--coal is answer to global warming? Am I on crack? Am hoping Salazar talks a lot about any new coal scrubbers--and about removing the nation's mustang horses that are in his and Obama's way and in the way of private ranchers' continued profits--on public lands.

Sheryl Crow's would be one of the good adoptions. She seems very sincere. The law, or arbitrary rule, still needs to be changed. If one adopts one of our national mustangs--it should never be allowed to be sold for slaughter (dog food). There should be a higher standard of care and longevity for something the Dept. of Interior has been entrusted. Why is it still allowed?

Much time has passed and I am now told that the Mustang horses on fed range land are not being given the birth control. I was told by a land mgmt federal guy that it is "too dangerous" to give the horses the shots. I offered to help for free, but no, they refused my help to save wild mustang. Seems they don't want anyone around the horses to report on them later. Funny, a southern california university vet had a program where he and his staff were able to give wild mustangs shots. The bison on Catalina Island get shots by feds so the animals there don't reproduce. Deer are given shots on federal land. Total BS. The fact is the Interior, Salazar and Obama refuse. Is it so they can buddy-up with the ranchers? The feds create the problem so they can complain about it, then use it as a reason to kill the horses.
