White House: FOX off-limits -- strategist : The Swamp

The Swamp

by Peter Nicholas

At least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, an outlet that presidential aides have depicted as not so much a news-gathering operation as a political opponent bent on damaging the Obama administration.

Political consultants are a staple of cable television talk shows, analyzing current events based on their own experiences working on campaigns or in government.

One Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, "We better not see you on again,'' said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that "clients might stop using you if you continue.''

In urging Democratic consultants to spurn Fox, White House officials might be trying to isolate the network and make it appear more partisan.

A boycott by Democratic strategists could also help drive the White House narrative that Fox is a fundamentally different creature than the other TV news networks. For their part, White House officials appear on Fox News -- but sporadically and with "eyes wide open,'' as one aide put it.

David Plouffe, the president's campaign manager and author of a new campaign book, The Audacity to Win, was scheduled to appear on Fox's On the Record with Greta Van Susteren last night as he promotes his book. His appearance, pre-empted by the breaking news of the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, has been rescheduled for Monday.

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said Thursday night that she had checked with colleagues who "deal with TV issues'' and they had not told people to avoid Fox. On the contrary, they had urged people to appear on the network, Dunn wrote in an email.

But Patrick Caddell, a Fox News contributor and a former pollster for Democratic President Jimmy Carter, said he has spoken to Democratic consultants who have been told by the White House to avoid appearances on Fox. He declined to give their names.

Caddell said he had not gotten that message himself from the White House. "They know better than to tell me anything like that,'' he said.

Caddell added: "I have heard that they've done that to others in not too subtle ways. I find it appalling. When the White House gets in the business of suppressing dissent and comment, particularly from its own party, it hurts itself.''

The White House has taken an aggressive stance toward Fox. When President Obama appeared on five separate talk shows one Sunday in September, he avoided Fox.

"It would be foolish for us to just treat it like it's CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS,'' said a White House aide. "That doesn't make any sense. That would be like saying we're going to do [interviews] with the news magazines and we're going to do Time, Newsweek and the [conservative] National Review.''

The aide spoke on condition of anonymity to talk more openly about the White House's thinking.

Last month, Dunn told CNN that Fox was, in effect, an "arm'' of the Republican Party. Dunn said in an appearance on the rival cable network: "Let's not pretend they're a news network the way CNN is.''

As the dustup played out, Fox's senior vice president of news, Michael Clemente, countered: "Surprisingly, the White House continues to declare war on a news organization instead of focusing on the critical issues that Americans are concerned about like jobs, health care and two wars. ''

Fox's commentators have been sharply critical of the Obama administration. After the president won the Nobel Peace Prize, Sean Hannity, who has a prime-time show on Fox, said he got the award for "trashing America.''

The two sides seemed interested in easing tensions. On Oct. 28, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs met privately with Clemente.

But White House aides haven't changed their underlying view of Fox.

Fox's audience is by far the largest of the cable networks, with an average of more than 2.1 million viewers in prime-time this year. CNN is second with 932,000 prime-time viewers.

Fox's viewership is not what worries the White House, though. More troubling to White House aides is that other news organizations may uncritically follow stories that Fox has showcased.

The White House aide said: "Where some of the falsehoods become dangerous is when the rest of the media accepts them as fact and reports on them, either out of a desire to tap into Fox's news audience - which you can understand, given where circulation and viewership rates are - or as some sort of knee-jerk fear of being considered liberally biased, which is what conservatives have been saying of the mainstream media for years.''

The White House's pugnacious approach to the network leaves some Democrats troubled.

Don Fowler, a former Democratic National Committee chairman, said in an interview: "This approach is out of sync with my conception of what the Obama administration stands for and what they're trying to do. I think they'll think better of it and this will be a passing phase.''

While the Unemployment rate rose to 10.2% today the Obama White House, which is thin skinned to any criticism, continues to play its childish games concerning Fox News. Talk about a group that has its priorities messed up. The White House needs to stop acting like spoiled 5 year old kids and start governing as adults.

Well, this isn't scary. I feel comforted knowing we are living under an administration that is actively trying to silence their critics.

Most agree that fox leans right... but NBC, CBS, and CNN all lean left. The Obama administration is simply afraid of answering tough questions. What a bunch of wimps! I voted third party because I didn't like McCain, but he wouldn't have boycotted the left leaning stations. Are we totalitarians?

It sounds like FOX created a fake aide to make this accusation. Since they don't adhere to real journalistic standards in there reporting, I wouldn't put it past them.

Just adds creedence to what Glenn Beck has been saying all along.

What a joke this administration is, really it is. Obama pontificates on and on about how transparent he and his administration are and they do this. Not to mention sealing all of his college transcripts. Before you go off calling me a teabaggin, birther I could care less about the birth certificate.

Obama lied, transparency died.

Bullying the press? Threatening private business interests that don't suck up? Where does this end?

That hopey-changey thing isn't working out too good. Transparency - nope! Accountability - nope!

This administration is leading this great country to doom. When does the revolt start?

Yes, Fox is a propaganda outlet and it is now in the business of organizing and promoting anti-government protests. This is not what news organizations are supposed to do. The press reports the news, it does not make it, then report on it.

Would you expect anything less from these corrupt Chicago politicians? It is good to see all of the other unbiased networks doing the hardhitting investigations into where the trillions in debt our children will inherit are being spent. I'm particularly impressed with how they have dug into the white house strategy in Afghanistan rather than focusing on the dinner parties and campaign speeches.

I think the president should dictate who can speak about them and in what forum. We wouldn't have all those pesky protestors in Washington if they risked losing their health coverage. He should silence the Chamber of Commerce too, maybe some new taxes on any firm with enough money to pay Chamber dues. Criticism is so un-American when it is directed towards the white house. What good is the IRS and FBI if you can't use them to go after your enemies?

Finally. It's what's deserved of a channel that's openly hostile to Democrats, liberals, and their views.

They do this in Iran and China. Why not here?

This makes me more confident in CNN and all how? The administration is taking a defensive/offensive role against Fox fearing other news networks report on Fox leads....only an argument AGAINST the NEWS GATHERING of the networks the White House uses as the shinning city on a hill to compare to Fox. CNN and others, accused of hypothetical, at the least, and actually, at the most, unscrupulous motives, desire of a bigger audience and dread of being labeled liberal, now.... what makes the White House think that said media is capable of leading with the "right stories" at any other time. The "pristine" media's character and motive is under scrutiny....by the White House, of all places. What messages are they sending?

The Obama administration is starting to act like Hitler & Stalin who first gained control of the media, before enslaving the population. Change we can believe in.

This is not national security. We should know the name of both the stratagist that was told not to go on FOX and the name of the white house official that made the comment (threat). Let's have open government!
While were at it, Joe Biden was always big on Cheney giving sworn testimony in hearings. Let's have Joe testify about stimulus jobs and money, budget deficits, and foreign policy. I'm sure we would all feel better if Joe The Expert would explain these to us-In committee- under oath. And Joe, remember to keep your answers short no matter how long and rambling the question.

Sounds like the White House Gestapo at work.

Come to think of it, I can't recall anytime that Dick Cheney ever appeared on MSNBC.

This is a non-issue and shouldn't be given the attention it's getting.

I guess this doesn't shock us from Chicago / Illinois. This is common occurence in politics here.

It's funny (not ha-ha funny) that dissent was a political statement during the last administration, but frowned upon now.

"Caddell added: 'I have heard'"
"said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity"

I'm sorry, is this really information to be basing a newspaper article on? Sounds like hearsay and political mudslinging to me. There isn't one verifiable fact in this entire article relating to the White House telling people to avoid Fox. So... thank you for nothing I guess.

Anonymous WH official.
Anonymous strategist.

Nice work!

Change you can believe in!

What I find disturbing is that our Commander in Chief is obviously afraid of the FOX Network.

What is he afraid of? The truth?

HE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

So much for "Transparency"
It just goes to show what a
blatant liar our so called leader
is. What a waste.

Wake up, folks. Obama and the spoiled children, Marxists and America-haters are bad, bad news for America.

Chavez, Peron, Castro, and Hitler all censored too. Although we can't really compare our messiah to Hitler - after all, he got the Olympics to go to Berlin.

And MSNBC is an arm of the democrat party.

When democrats are being warned and told what to do and what NOT to do..is scary stuff.

Vote in 2010.

Wow. I never realized how much "V" was spot-on in their criticism of the Obama administration. Obama to media: "Don't ask me anything that may paint us in a negative light". Yep, spot-on.

FOX NEWS!!!

EEEK!!

FOX!!! NEWS!!! FOX NEWS!!!

AAAHHHHH!!!!

EEEK!!! AAAHHHHH!!!! FOX NEWS!!!

FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!! FOX!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

But MSNBC, which airs reruns of prison documentaries on the weekend instead of live news, is championed as a "real" news organization by the White House? It's laughable. Obama is easily the most divisive, incompetent, and openly petty and hostile president this country has seen. This arrogant fool has got to go. It begins with the 2010 elections.

I don't watch FOX news. It is obvious they are *ell bent on trashing the current administration any way they can. Obvious arm of the Republican party that want to get back in office. They can't focus on positive things, so they focus on negative reporting to scare their viewership.

how many people does serv.gov employ to come on web sites and make such kool aid filled comments under such names as Sickofit, tread,mg etc...?
You people are sad.

Thank you Chicago Tribune for covering this important story.

Americans can not allow the Whitehouse to control the press. If we do all is lost.

Isn't this the same group that accused Bush of being arrogant and unwilling to listen to dissenting opinions? Isn't this the same group that said, "Dissent is patriotic?"

There are opinion shows on Fox. Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity would never claim to be unbiased. The purpose of their show is to give political commentary. There are also news shows on Fox. Obama officials should be willing to appear on both types of shows so that people can hear their side of the argument... that is unless they believe they cannot win the argument because once the facts are out, the people will never support them. In that case, they are probably better off acting like children and complaining that the network is unfair.

Are there any verifiable facts in this story?
This isn't politics, this is soap opera.
Sometimes I think the Trib writers that contibute to the Swamp get paid by the number of responses they get to each of their posts. How else do you explain how this ,lacking of any verifiable facts, "story" is being passed offas news.

Free Press is Free Press whether you like it or not.

It'll go down as another constitutional right that Obama is against. Along with the right to keep your money and property.

What is the ratio between his expanding government budget and the government cutbacks that he promised during his campaign ?

Simple math is the proof that Obama has not been honest and forthright with the American People. His policies are not the change the American people need.

Obama is the apocalyptic deficit spending puppet of big government .

His policies aim to enrich government and his political supporters at severe cost to the remaining majority of the people in this country for as many years as he can get away with.

America be afraid - be very afraid of his apocalyptic deficit spending.

Wow!!! Marching orders from the PROLIT BUREAU. Comrade obama and the truth and light commissars showing the world how to deal with the press. So this is the "CHANGE" that the Hopeium and Dopeium crowd voted for.. I can't wait until the RE-EDUCATION camps are fully functional. Hitler and Stalin must be proud of the "NEWS" coverage and how it is being "MANAGED" by the party faithful.

This is how we do things in Chicago. What's the big deal? If you control the message, you control the agenda. If the press doesn't play along, cut them off. I see nothing wrong with that. If you don't like it, vote for someone else next time.

Obamas skin is so thin, that if it were any thinner he would have a reservoir tip.

A strong arm technic routinely used in Chicago!!! Another example of Obozo is worried!!! This is a country of free speech!!!! Dictator for Life Obozo should by now realize that the American people don't want him or his way of government!!!

The Obama White House lives in it's own fairy tale land and wants everyone else to live there as well.

What a truly horrible person this spoiled man-child Obama has turned out to be. Big mistake putting this grifter into the White House.

We will answer any questions you have. Just don't ask any which put us in a negative light.

When will this man-child president grow a pair?

So, the only one willing to give his name for this story is someone who works for Fox, but refuses to name anyone specific that is involved.

Either way, we're talking about "consultants." They're opinion people, nothing more. They're independent of the White House, which is free to associate with whomever it chooses depending upon their actions.

The story doesn't even imply that any real news is being withheld from Fox.

This is nothing more than Godwin bait.

"White House narrative"? Its always been obvious that Fox doesn't just lean right, they are 100 % crazy eyed radical right-wing. At least it is to thinking people. Only difference is now a high visibilty outlet (the WH) is calling them on it. That said, I don't think they should try to get Dems to not go on Fox. Let them dig their own grave, they don't need any help.

Says Vance the village idiot; I don't watch Fox news. How is it "obvious" if you don't observe anything? Another chickenshit. Afraid of a news outlet that is on tv. Wow.

Who else is on Nixon's, err, Obama's I mean, enemies list? Could it be you and me?

The tactics being used by this Administration will not be a surprise to any Chicagoan. This is how we do it in the Big Windy, either you as with us or you disappear. Welcome to Chicago style politics everyone.

Here's is a nice article for you liberals on your President. Please notice this is from NBC Chicago, his home town. The wheels are definately coming off on this guy. http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/politics/A-Disconnected-President.html

Funny, the amount of viewers for Fox News dwarfs the other stations - way to get your message out Mr. President. Now that audience is alienated from you and any good that you try to do. Engage and fight the fight if what you believe is true and honorable. This behavior is not honorable.

this entire story is built on an anonymous claim by somebody outside of the WH.

How is this news? How is this not simply an anonymously sourced hit job on the WH?

And, can we at least admit that Fox "News" is a joke?

It has all been said in other comments on how stupid Obama and his administration is. What puzzles me is why CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, and ABC have been extremely Pro Obama starting with the primaries until now? Is it because the employees are mostly far left liberal, or is their management being forced to present Obama in nothing but glowing terms when the opposite is true. How can a news oraganization lie over and over, or not report everything, and still call itself a unbiased news organization. I will continue to watch FOX, and not the others.

The most telling line in entire report:

"More troubling to White House aides is that other news organizations may uncritically follow stories that Fox has showcased."

Is this guy implying that ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN are too stupid to know "real" news and just parrot each other now? or is he saying that when the Tribune, NBC, CBS, CNN and ABC spew forth the memo they get from the Axelrod , Plouffe or the DNC, that is an excellent example of journalism?

I report, you decide.

This scares me and borders on censorship, which just feeds the people at Fox in their depiction of the US as becoming a socialist nation. I voted for Obama, and hope an open and free press (no matter how bad) is always the American way of doing business. Very scary.....

It is time to remove this absolute filth from the White House -- NOW! The crap that is in there is not American, defies all American values, defies all Constituional values and rights, defies all American laws, defies the American people.
TIME TO REMOVE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION. NOT NEXT WEEK. NOT NEXT MONTH. NOT NEXT YEAR. NOT IN 2012. BUT NOW!

Why would anybody with a brain or conscience want to be seen on Fox "News"? Oh, right they don't.

They were created with an admitted political bias and then proceeded to out 'Network" Howard Beale. If you allow this organization to brain-wash you, you're either in on the irresponsible greed, or you've become puppets to this soulless conglomerate.

Fox is a joke they do not have know what criticism is, if they did they would have both views and not one that incite people towards total negative, hateful actions. WHICH THEY DO!!!

Let the Dem Strategist speak on FOX, if they don't the ignorance perpetuates. They don't have anything good to say at all they are just HATERS!!! Fox News is a Hell Monger Organization with a pen and a big mouth!!

Did everyone see how low CNN's ratings are? Wonder why.

No matter your party, you need to understand what Rev Wright preached in the Obama's church for 20 years. Black liberation theology is based in Marxism. It is anti-American and anti-free market and anti-capitalism. That is the truth. If you are not a drone and can think for yourself, you owe it to yourself and your children's future to research this. A free and independent press is a necessary tool for a free society. Pay attention to what Chavez has done to the free press that dared to criticize his Socialist agenda. Is FNC bias? Maybe they seem so because so many other channels either skewer the news or just do not report anything critical about Obama. These repeaters are like his Pravda. Why do you think half of FNC viewers are Independants and Democrats? FNC report all the news and dare to question and debate. Yes, the White House hates FNC, and you need to be leery of the news channels they love.

Basically, if ANY news reporting agency doesn't tell YOU what YOU want to hear, or doesn't report the news EXACTLY the way that YOU see it, they "lean" the opposite direction of YOUR political agenda.....HOG WASH!!! An that goes for the Fox-lovers AS WELL as the Fox-haters......

Obama......The constant lying.
The staggering arrogance.
The dangerous narcissism.
The astounding incompetence. Our freedoms and tax dollars are Obama's Marxist playthings. Let's stand strong against Obama.

No administration in memory has been so intent on controlling "the message," to the detriment of the truth. I didn't have especially high hopes for the Obama administration, but I didn't think they'd be so morally corrupt.

"how many people does serv.gov employ to come on web sites and make such kool aid filled comments under such names as Sickofit, tread,mg etc...?
You people are sad.

-------------

Well Bob, let me tell you. "Serv.gov" has employed me for many years in their mind-control division. I was secretly working for the Great Left Wing Super Secret Commando Service during the Bush administration. It was our job to make George W. Bush appear to be an idiot in order to discredit him. We found it to be an easy task, since he had such a natural talent for stupidity. Unfortunately for us, it had the opposite effect. It created an entire generation of American dullards who don't understand how to serve their own best interests. Sorry we let you down Bob.

10 bucks says this individual was Joe Trippi, they (the WH) didn't like his honesty on election night.

Fox NEWS reports news. Opinion shows on the Fox News NETWORK promulgate opinions. Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow and just about everyone else on MSNBC promulgate opinions as well. The OP-EDs in the NYT have opinion pieces. Even the main pages do at times. So are the NYT and MSNBC "wild-eyed left-wing nuts" or are they just free entities filling a market niche? There are no "pure" news outlets. This action by the WH, whoever it was, would be considered illegal if a business did it (read up on what's going on in litigation with Intel, for example). It's also smacks of paranoia. It's juvenile as well. All you who hate Fox, fine. You are free to and the WH is free to boycott it as well. But the are not free to suppress free speech even if it is just, kinda-sorta implied. You're free speech is threatened by this too, all you who want to shut down Fox. We (conservatives) took it when you went after all things Bush and continue to take it when you mislabel and slander us. You and the WH need to take it too.

Shout out to Andrea Mitchell!

Shout out to Chris Mathews!

Shout out to Wolf Blitzer!

-Resident 0bama

I don't like and don't agree with FOX's bias in the way it selects and reports its news, nor with the more extreme, vituperative and unsupported rantings of some of its personalities, but neither do I agree with how the White House has responded. Neither side has exactly covered itself in glory here.

A person named in the story, Anita Dunn, claims the WH *encourages* people to go on Fox......except the most important oratory genius and mouth piece for the Democratic agenda, the horse himself, The President.

That's too bad. I'm an independent voter, a suburbanite and a Professional. I won't watch CBS, NBC, ABC or CNN. I watch Fox. I guess I just won't get to hear what the White House is saying about issues. Nice job, White House.

WH author's and their books welcomed to take dip in the ratings of Fox News, CNN taking a dip in the ratings of Fox News, not so much.

"be like saying we're going to do [interviews] with the news magazines and we're going to do Time, Newsweek and the [conservative] National Review.'' Bad analogy. More like "we're going to do the [Far Left] Nation, Mother Jones, New Republic, and the[conservative] National Review.''

Fox rocks...Obama whines...too funny,.... Fox provides proof with recordings and essays and interviews ...MSNBC on the other hand says Trust us and trust Obama - we know what is good for you...we are right and Fox is crazy ....sorry many listened to that hopey changey nonsense last year and look at the sad shape that we r in now... .. and in spite of what Chrissy says...we arent feeling any tingles...

It should be now obvious to all but the willfully dense that Obama's a clown: a naif and a fraud. The bungling of the Ft. Hood massacre (he couldn't even remember what medal he presented to the likely hugely embarrassed target of his shout-out only weeks before) is indefensible. But no doubt there are still some out there who think he wee wees lemonade, and will defend him in these comments.

You have presented no evidence in this article beyond hearsay and conjecture. Although all these rabid right wingers who jump all over this poor reporting will be first to call this paper the LIBUNE.

This is the coruppt trash they sent from chicago, the most corrupt city in America...now the messiah is showing all he can do is play basketball and ramble some bs ....count the days to him and his prison drag queen wife are out!

Okay...Zelaya wants to be like Chavez and is LEGALLY removed and Obama takes the side of Ortega, Chavez and Castro against democracy; Obama ignores Iranian protestors and tries to work with the Iranians; abandons Poland so that Russia can have mock invasion exercises; and apologizes - to RUSSIA - for our relationship, but FOX News is the enemy. I don't watch Fox or the other networks but this is so deranged it defies explanation. I really really want the adults to show up like at the end of Lord of the Flies, only I want them to show up before Simon and Piggy get killed.

The whitehouse is confusing the opinion / cable networks with the actual network. CNBC is not NBC nightly news. Cable Fox is dramatically different than my Fox news at 10. MSNBC has Madow and the reject from ESPN, are they news or opinion? No different than Hannity etc.... versus Chris Wallace on Sunday morning, dramatic difference here, but the Whitehouse lumps all Fox together. Unfortunately it shows they are not a very bright bunch.

"G",

Were you born ignorant...or did you need special government-subsidized training to get that way?

If Patrick Caddell said its so you can take it to the bank

Mao Tse Dunn is as trustworthy as ever.

What's the problem.

They haven't shot anybody yet, have they.

That could never happen here.

Heard these a few times, haven't you?! :

Fox is not a legitimate news organization.

Fox is an arm of the Republican party.

Now look at the posts of those who use these tired cliches. Notice anything they have in common?

They don't provide any substance to back up what they say. They don't give examples. Fox is right wing, blah blah blah, with nothing to back it up. It seems that someone with some degree of intelligence and sincerity would be able to do that.

Even if you commie libs disagree with Fox News right leaning views, which is fine, how can you possibly agree with their desire to squelch dissent and a free press? You are all so hypocritical. I would think you guess would be angry about this too....but no. Sad, very sad.

Next the White House will just pull the plug like other fascist leaders. Take over the media and eliminate criticism. The Chicago goon squad doing what they do best.

This article reminds me of the first episode of V that was on the other night. The leader of the visitors selects a journalist to interview her and then proceeds to tell him that he can't ask and questions that put put the visitors in a "negative light." When the journalist is at first morally repulsed by such a request, he quickly gets in line when he is threatened with being shunned from any further news opportunities with the leader of the visitors. I wonder if this is coincidence or just another example of how eerily close fantasy and reality tend to come together. I will now however refer to the Obama administration as The Visitors.

The only good thing about Obama being in Washington is he's no longer in IL race baiting and "pressuring" banks into giving home loans to those who can't afford to pay them back.

Obama thinks Fox is far right because it doesn't ask tough questions like what his favorite color is. Maybe he should just stick to "The View" and other hard hitting outlets.

Hey Obama - you were a joke in IL. You are a joke in Washington.

Wasn't Bush voted out of office? Change we can count on? All I see that changed is the Party and the color of the man with the title. Politics as usual.

Censorship at it's best - Chicago Style .... Regardless, the Obama camp and Congress don't want people to have freedom. I have no problem with any of the news channels, I'm glad to have variety.

If true, FOX could have a field day with this. Bring in the Dem strategists and blur their faces and disguise their voices.
This would give them cover to proceed as usual and also expand on the threats the white house thugs lobbed at them.
And if they're party loyalists they might also mention the community organizer is detroying the Dem brand and mainstream Dems better take their party back from the radicals.

Ohhhhhhh....now I get it.
The tranparency he talked about was due to his skin being so thin that you can see through it.

So if Bush had said that MSNBC wasn't a real news organization and threatened repubs that went on the show, would you defenders be screaming about censorship and facism? I'm sure you would be.

You can disagree with Fox if you like. Or be like me and not watch them. But you cannot deny that what the WH is doing is contrary to everything they were supposed to stand for. Transparency? Rising above partisanship? None of that applies now.

Be afraid, be VERY afraid.

Did we elect Nixon again?

What a Faux News channel crock of doey. Are any of us foolish enough to believe that any of the so termed "Democratic" strategists who regularly appear on Faux are truly Democrats? Weak and Washy are the foolish who need a paycheck so badly that they will sell their souls.

Typical Chicago and Illinois Demo Party politics. No surprise here! The nation is really in more trouble than they realize with Obama and his radical Chicago friends and Chicago political thugs.

How ... Nixonion

Actions of this nature push us closer and closer to outright revolution. This has been shown throughout history.

What a ridiculous comparison. Time and Newsweek are as liberal as National Review is conservative. At least NR is more upfront about their biases.

Uh-oh, check another one off the list ("Current Communist Goals," circa 1963)......
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1561529/posts

Reading through some of the comments leads me to believe that some people just don't get the message. There are people that are upset that the White House is engaging in this type of war with Fox news because there are more pressing issues that need to be attended to. I contend that those pressing issues are the MAIN reason that the White House is engaging in this losing battle. It's widely known that the Obama administration already has the remainder of the new organizations firmly in their place...repeating fake numbers, sugar coating bad news and vomitting up daily provided talking points and calling them news. Fox News is the sole organization that stands in the way of the White House's ability to lie, cheat and steal it's way into European-style Communism. They aren't ignoring other problems to fight with Fox. They CREATED those other problems and HAVE to fight with Fox to be able to CONTINUE their efforts.

"That's too bad. I'm an independent voter, a suburbanite and a Professional. I won't watch CBS, NBC, ABC or CNN. I watch Fox. I guess I just won't get to hear what the White House is saying about issues. Nice job, White House.

Posted by: Taxpayer58 | November 6, 2009 1:21 PM "

As an exclusive Fox viewer You never get to hear anything but the opinions of Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch through their sock puppets. You never get to hear about "issues." Don't blame the White House for your voluntary ignorance.

In story after story of the WH Fox fight, the aides are proclaiming the channel's falsehoods and lies. However, they fail to point out just exactly what lies are being told.

I challenge any of you that do not believe in the truth that comes from the Fox News network to find an instance in which what they reported was false...That is what the White House cannot handle ..During the campaign as Mrs. Dunn admitted in an interview they used the internet to get their news out because they could control it. I hate to say, but everyone that voted for Mr. Obama is getting what they voted for and if you had been watching the True News Station known as Fox News all that is currently happening in the White House would be such a shock.

The only people I know who think Fox is "fair and balanced" are those who ONLY get their news from Fox.

Their tiny brains can't handle anything that conflicts with what they already think.

You need a VARIETY of news sources to find out what's going on.

Gestapo! This administration has absolutely no credibility whatsoever! Day after day they look more and more unprofessional.

The last comment at the end of the article, says a lot - the speakers "conception" of the Obama administration is completely off the mark from the reality of this WH, which is strong-armed, thuggish, and uninterested in any of the lofty ideals Obama bespoke during his campaign. This president is not about bringing us together, or even serving us. He is about maintaining power and gaining more power. We're in terrible trouble.

While Obama dithered trying to go after FoxNews because they dare criticize him, unemployment skyrocketed and there is still no decision on troops in Afghanistan.

But he is doing a heckofajob on his golf game and raising money for liberal politicians.

Princess Barry, Comrade in Chief.

How's that hope and change workin' out for ya?

This president is a creation of media and democrat propaganda anyway - all style and no substance. No wonder they want to destroy an investigative news organization like FOX which would expose that this "emperor is wearing no clothes."

Vance, if you do not watch Fox News Channel, then HOW can you "know" that it is "obvious they are *ell bent on trashing the current administration...and obviously an arm of the Republican Party..."??? You don't know anything about them!!! You are just repeating what someone said to you!! Maybe if you just watched a few of the news shows (not the opnion shows), you might just see that maybe things are not what you have been told... Give it a try. Couldn't hurt!

For those that want to SILENCE Fox or agree with the Obama whitehouse, when are you planning your version of a 'Kristallnacht' on Fox and Conservatives?

Go look up the Webster definition of FACISM. It FITs you Democrats.....

Challenge to all the libs: Watch FNC, CNN, ABC, CBS,NBC, MSNBC and you will see why the White House fears The Fox News Channel.
Then try & prove FNC is wrong. You can't. The rest of the worthless MSM won't report a story if it makes the Obama administration look bad or they will pathetically spin a story so it no longer resembles the real story. Time to take your head out of the sand & quit being an ostrich. The truth is there if you want it, don't be afraid of it.

Fox News is just a apparatus for the rich to keep their money.

The White House E-MAILED a "reporter" DURING her newscast to "correct" her, and we are to believe that Fox is an arm of a political machine? I mean they are caught ON AIR IN THE ACT, and they dare accuse others?!?!?! This tyrannical administration is the low point of all US history.

Watch it for yourself:

http://minx.cc/?post=293882

This White House's play book is right out of the primer of Joseph Goebbels. How proud he would be of the new Reich. Of course, this boycott of Fox is really a warning shot across the bow of the Obama media, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN. Stay in line kiddies or you are next!

HAHAHAAAAA!

WH to Dem strategists: Stop making Fox so … balanced?

For an administration that can’t make up its mind about strategy and resourcing in Afghanistan, they seem to have plenty of time to plot their offensives against Fox.
This shows that the Fox war isn’t about getting balanced coverage. The fact that they have to threaten fellow Democrats to bully them out of their media appearances on Fox just highlights the fact that Fox airs their views — which undermines their public argument about Fox. What they want to do is to suck up to the Fox-haters on the Left in order to give them a weird sense of power, apparently the only way they can do it, since the hard-Left agenda isn’t moving through Congress.

One, by one our sacred freedoms are being threatened - freedom of press, freedom of speech. Lady Liberty, the Beacon of Democracy, is seriously in danger. What will become of America when its own leadership is determined to destroy its Bill of Rights? Its Constitution?

It's always the same in these comments -- just a few liberals who repeat the democrat talking points. I really believe some of them are employees of MoveOn.org, Organizing For America, SEIU, etc. The rest are useful idiots, people who still struggle with the transition from the safety and security provided by mommy and daddy, or "intellectual elites" for whom spouting liberal fallacies is the price of membership in a club.

Fox News admits that their talk shows are opinion based, which is obvious and indisputable. It's not straight news and it's not meant to be. No problem. The problem lies in their "news" side. They don't have a straight news division like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, etc. They have propaganda disguised as news. That's a serious issue that must be addressed.

The problem with Fox News is that they have shown over and over again that they tilt their news coverage indisputably toward a right-wing perspective and refuse to admit it. They are not purely driven by the news. They are driven by an agenda.

The Daily Show did a great segment just last week showing how Fox News acted as cheerleaders for the 9/12 Tea Party protests and gave it wall to wall coverage, yet for a protest of almost the same exact size - the Gay Rights protest last weekend - they didn't send a single camera crew. And The Daily Show didn't even mention a Fox News producer who was caught on camera riling up the crowds in the 9/12 protest and literally encouraging them to cheer louder. I don't think they sent a similar "news producer" to the gay rights march. To argue that they covered these protests straight without any leaning toward one side or another is comically disingenuous.

Gotta love that one! Why can't the Pubs ever figure out how to do pay backs that would illustrate the junk that went on with Biden??

The Obama administration pointing out that Faux isn't really a news outlet but the media arm of the GOP is a good move in my opinion.

I don't think this was done with Faux in mind as much as it was done with the corporate media in mind. The very same corporate media that has allowed Faux to push their BS propaganda out into the corporate media mainstream as "real news".

From now on when Faux starts railing about some stupid crap like ACORN etc, maybe the corporate media outlets will fact check Faux before they repeat it.

GOP Approval Ratings vs Fox's Ratings - I report, you decide.

So long as FOX continues to do "news" their way, Obama is perfectly within his right to call them on it.

Free speech is not a shield.

And, BTW: I completely support their right to lie and distort. What I don't support is their dishonest branding.

Rather than some law about content, or some other speech impacting thing, a truth in branding law would probably be more effective.

You can't say news, if your product doesn't inform. It's that simple.

The trouble FOX has is their "opinion" and "advocacy journalism" just isn't all that well supported by the facts. A quick look at other advocacy journalism reveals it's regularly supportable by facts, and as such is easily branded in a meaningful and honest way.

FOX offers a low clarity broadcast where fact and opinion is mixed together such that the average viewer ends up being less informed and more confused than they would simply be otherwise.

That low clarity means they really shouldn't be using the qualifier "news".

Fox is not news at all. It's opinionated lies, distortions, spin, and falsehoods put foward by a bunch of derelicts. People who watch and believe the trash that is spouted on Fox are either mentally slow and/or incapable of independent thought.

one question...what does Fox make up and then report?...please clarify for the audience.
it seems to me that Fox is very even-handed in their reporting the NEWS (unlike the gushing reports for anything democrat related from the other "news" agencies) you know what I hate? the ever so slight undertones/nuance in the way the other newscasters/journalist report about Obama, this is something I've noticed early on in the deception that began with his campaign...and they make NO claim in being unbiased in their commentary segments...in fact they more or less proudly announce that they are right of center...thank goodness for Fox.
Anyway, it seems that one of the only newspapers to pull a profit (while still retaining any semblance to integrity) is the Wall Street Journal...just thought I'd put it out there

"Fox News is just a apparatus for the rich to keep their money."

Seriously? Well it would explain the WH's opposition to Fox since Obama's main goal seems to be to suck all of the money out of the private sector so that it can be redistributed to democrat constituents as they see fit.

Fox has gone so far away from being about news rather than propaganda, that comparing their ratings to CNN or MSNBC is apples and oranges. Might as well compare the Disney Channel to CNN and see whose ratings are higher.

Once one moves the comparisons away from "cable news", Fox News gets clobbered.

For example, Meet The Press and This Week clean the clocks of Fox News Sunday's ratings. Fox News Sunday appears, not on Fox News (until reruns later in the day), but on broadcast TV's Fox Network (which is a separate operation, whose programming often mocks conservatives and even has a history of being targeted by conservative boycotts (such as the boycott that tried to get Fox to dump Married With Children)). Therefore, Fox News Sunday competes against the broadcast network news shows and gets clobbered.

Also, the #1 news web site, in terms of visitors per month and video streams consumed per month is msnbc.com, followed by Yahoo news and CNN.com. FoxNews.com is well down in the rankings.

Faux news is and has always been the official propaganda organ of the Republican party.

The right wing dead-enders who watch their programming still believe that they represent the majority view and Faux will never tell them otherwise.

Seems the Obama administration has taken a page from the Chavez playbook. How comforting,

Fox is ridiculous.
Like it or not, he's the President.
Get over it, republican losers.

REASONS WHY FOX IS NOT A REAL NEWS CHANNEL:

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.......PROMOTE and COVER their own protests.

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Lie about the total number of people at the rally THEY PROMOTED...

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Force people at a protest to make more noise to look good on TV.

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Have NEWS ANCHORS that accuse the president of making a TERRORIST FIST JAB!

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Have NEWS ANCHORS that calls the current administration a bunch of CRY BABIES

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Go out of their way to bash the current administration by using OLD FOOTAGE and lying by saying it’s recent footage, and CROPPING it to make it look like something else was said!

A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Pass off RNC press releases as their OWN FACTS (including the typos)
http://mediamatters.org/research/200902100019?f=h_top

All of the examples cited are from Fox’s so-called NEWS ANCHORS... not the Opinion people like O’Reily, Hannity, and Beck.

This should be pointed out because the line is blurred between journalism and opinion on Fox.

The video examples above are plain and simple, Fox can’t spin their way out of it. They have been called out on the carpet time and time again... EVERYONE KNOWS THIS! Including those reporters taking up for Fox News.

Ahh, more Fox News drivel for the right wing nutjobs to lap up, and they are! I find it interesting that not ONE single source would go on the record and say that the White House told them not to appear on Fox News. Everyone "declined" to be identified. Doesn't that set off an alarm bell for you suckers at all? Why don't you get it? When a "news" outlet is constantly telling you exactly what you want to hear at all times shouldn't you eventually figure out that they're biased? Shouldn't it tell you that they'll report anything, true or not, from "anonymous" sources, just to make the current administration look bad? Stop being mindless sheep for the Fox propaganda machine and start asking your own "tough" questions.

My question is this. How can anyone still want to be a Democrat let alone a Democrat Strategist when they are clearly being censored by their own party? I mean how blind is your loyalty to what is amounting to a dictator wannabe? Why are you still Democrats? How in the tank these people are is scary.

Anita Dunn's team are hitting the comments pretty hard.

So Chris "I'm having tingles up my leg" is a real journalist?

If you're going to point out the fact that Fox covered the tea party protests and not some gay protest, why not also point out the fact that the rest of the "news" organizations made every attempt to ignore and minimize the tea party protests?

This is exactly why every liberal organization from the democratic party to the "main stream" media has no more credibility with people who are still capable of logical thought.

Wow! Fox News is not really news you idiot right wingers! How many times did FOX NEWS CALL EX-PRESIDENT BUSH "LIAR" FOR THE FALSE WMD's, CREATING PATRIOT ACT (UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACT), & FOR THE 2 WARS!!!

YOU GUYS ARE F** WRONG AND YOU KNOW IT...FOX NEWS IS TOO REPUBLICAN AND STUPID. I WISH GOD PUNISHES THESE "NAZI" PROPAGANDIST.

You might (or might not) recall that George W. Bush boycotted MSNBC. Nobody seems to remember that......

How far has journalism fallen since the WaPo during the Watergate era?

Your article, today should get a wiki footnote as an example of the collapse.

Now, whether you're being played the way many hacks of the past 8 years got played by Rove et al or, whether you're complicit the way Judy Miller of the NYT was in planting 'open door' stories to generate a news cycle, i don't know. I don't know you well enough, I'm not a regular reader, but something 'smells' here:

One Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox, he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, " 'We better not see you on again,' " said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that "clients might stop using you if you continue."

Patrick Caddell, a Fox News contributor and a former pollster for President Carter, said he has spoken to Democratic consultants who have been told by the White House to avoid appearances on Fox. He declined to give their names.

Peter, just for Ss&Gs, I'm gonna take a couple of minutes and see if I can find a near term appearance on FOX bya Dem Strategist. And, if I can just using Google, I'm SURE the boundless resources of the WH could do the same thing. Sok

* If that's the case, where's the value of anonymity for your source?

* And, a Fox contributor as a confirming source? Really? Seriously?

THAT sends up BIG RED FLAGS, Peter. wow...

More later.

This is one Obama policy I can fully support. So the Axelrods of this world will go on but the talking heads may not? Perfect. So the Obies might actually be asked a real question once in a while but we won't have these third string morons repeating the DNCs lies for the day. It's win-win, especially as Fox has only benefited from this whole putrid exercise while their competition, all five of them, shrink like vampires caught out at noon.

Any news outlet (Faux) that would feature Crazy Glenn Beck is not a news outlet, it's a comedy channel.

I wonder what Beck's next gimmick will be?

An hour long special on eating lead paint chips? 30 minutes of pro-paint chips people, and 30 minutes of anti-paint chips people?

Or maybe he'll discuss the pros and cons of putting your hand in the toaster. He can bring in Orly Taitz, foremost expert on hand-toaster interactions, and Michael Scheuer on how Obama's Hitleresque government is trying to take away your freedom to stick your hand in your toaster whenever you want.

Liberals don't seem to mind anonymous sources when the statement agrees with their agenda.

I guess these libs aren't aware that the White House has essentially declared war on Fox very publicly. Is it such a stretch to believe that they would discourage democratic strategists to give Fox credibility when administration officials themselves are boycotting Fox?

Just more republican lies I guess.

and "CHICAGO Politics" come to the White House

The Obama administration is a totalitarian thug regime.

Only idiots (and there are many) are too stupid/blind to see it.

The Cry-Baby-in-Chief has taken liberal 'victim-hood' ideology to new heights.

The poor 'victim' uses the power of the WH to strong-arm people.

Look, someone told ACORN that a comment thread wasn;'t going their way, and the children came out in force.

Everyone, look at the libs posting here and contrast to the conservatives. Notice the condescension, the arrogance, read their names, and look at all the insults. They ALL spout the same talking points over and over again. It's a hive mindset, and devoid of facts. They toss out statements such as, "Everyone knows they have no news branch" and we're supposed to accept that crap as fact. Sorry libs, we KNOW your tactics. You're devoid of facts. Media bias on the other sources is so perverse that Obeyme doesn't even address it.

I already posted a link of an MSNBC reporter being e-mailed by the White House on air to "correct" her.

can you show us ANY SINGLE INSTANCE of ANY media outlet being such an obvious mouthpiece of an administration. Your willful ignorance is why you will be swept away.

People, don't bother arguing with libs. They tell us the economy is going bad under Bush citing 5.3% unemployment and tell us things are grand at 10.2% unemployment. There is NO RATIONAL thought, so just like at the playground, let the children whine. Smile and pat them on the head and realize where they will be one day.

What Dan Fowler said perfectly depicts the mentality of a Democrat:

"This approach is out of sync with my conception of what the Obama administration stands for and what they're trying to do. I think they'll think better of it and this will be a passing phase.''

It seems Mr. Folwer prefers to stick with his own conceptions of what the Obama administration stands for rather the facts demonstrating what it does, even when the facts contradict his conceptions.

Isn't this the way all Democrats think? Isn't it true that despite the numerous failures and failings of government, Democrats prefer to stick by their own conceptions of what government stands for rather than what it does?

All you Dems out there, why do you prefer own conceptions to facts? I don't get it.

Good for them! Fox devolved past the stage of reporting unbiased news a decade ago! No reason for our government to even deal with them until they start reporting appropriately again. They'll just take every word spoken and twist it into nonsense.

Wow, I had no idea Axlerod had so damn many sock puppets in his closet, LOL.

The more Faux News lies, the more they expose themselves as ugly, mentally ill, hateful hypocrites to ANYONE (not Wingnuts) who's not completely brainwashed.

Crazy Glenn Beck already crossed one line and lost most of his advertisers for it, it won't be his last. Give Beck enough rope, and he'll hang himself. He's a disaster just waiting to happen and we'll all be thankful when it does happen.

Unemployment is at 10.2%. What does the White House do? Healthcare reform, cap & tax, and picking a fight with a cable news channel, of course. Folks, this is what happens when you send a bunch of adolescents to Washington. Next time, please vote more carefully.

It's always hilarious to see lunatic-liberals cite Media Matters, which is a far-left lunatic organization that incessantly distorts and outright lies.

It's like citing Osama bin Laden to qualify views of America.

Too funny!

I love the way the Faux News apologists are always excusing their partisan behavior by claiming that MSNBC is partisan too.

MSNBC gives right wing hack Joe Scarborough a full three hour show every single day, I don't see ANYTHING like that on Faux News - nothing, nada, zip.

The GOP has turned into a circle jerk of misinformation, propaganda and out right lies - led by Mullah Rush and Fake News Channel.

If this doesn't scare Republicans I don't know what will - GOP Approval Ratings go down, Fox's Ratings go up.

What variety of pedophilia does Limbaugh embrace when he refers to the president as "man-child?" What kind of mentality does it take to repeat the phrase. Guess they're called dittoheads for a reason.

IL and Chicago politics at their finest.

IL and Chicago politics are alive and well in the White House - many a lesson learned from the Oval office staff under the tutaliage of the likes of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Rod Blagojevich, and others. Textbook IL politics at play.

Look at the likes of the Obama administration - how many are from Chicago/IL politics? One of the most corrupt political environments in the country - this is how it works in Chicago folks. You should see Mayor Daley go off on his rants when he is criticized for something - his behavior borders on childish.

Do you see any resemblence here?

Attack and discredit any criticism - the highest office in the land is setting quite a precedence here on how they handle criticism, from Fox News, to Edmunds report on Cash For Clunkers, et al....

While I would expect more from the President and the White House, you have to take into account who they are, where they are from, and like it or not, get used to it. At least for three more years.

By the way libs, you know why Fox is so popular? Because conservatives are the dominant majority in this country. 60% of the nation identifies themselves as conservative, 20% liberal. Keep telling us we're in the minority when the facts don't support it. I've never met a liberal who let facts tsop them. Please keep posting. Your group's hate, condescension and complete ignorance is on display with every post, and people are now awake to it. PLEASE keep posting.

Now go watch MSNBC and let us know what the White House told the reporters there to say about Fox being the mouth of a pilitical group. You all are collectively as smart as a bag of hammers, no offense to hammers.

Well Psychologists are sure right when they say that people always look for evidence to prove they are right and if that is propaganda, true or made, so much the better, as long as it proves their point. Prove that politics will always be a partisan exercise. Most people will always support the political party they belong to right or wrong. We are all sheeps one way or another, like it or not. My only hope is that there is a better place.

Ummm, it was a common tactic in the Bush WH to deny access to press that it didn't like, along with previous administrations. Jesus, have you all been sleeping under rocks for the past several years? You tend to act like everything is brand new, like the world sprang whole into being the moment Obama was elected. Sheesh.

You can't do it because you're full of right wing crap, Teresa.

And MSNBC doesn't have an agenda? C'mon. This administration is so pathetically incompetent that it has to go after Fox News! George Bush showed us how thick skinned he was. Everyone was dissing on him and you never heard the man complain. But than again, Obama is acting more like a little school boy than a man!

"The Obama administration is a totalitarian thug regime." HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! BAAAAAH HAHAHA! Yeah and those poor people at Fox news are being pushed around by these thugs.

I must be an idiot. Because I would've said the same exact statement about the previous administration. You know the one that outed undercover CIA agents that disagreed with their policies, initiated frivolous wars and very rarely gave interviews to anyone outside of Faux News.

FormerDemocrat, I'm glad to see you switched sides. Your lack of intelligence and distorted sense of reality will allow you to fit in perfectly with the GOP. Good luck in your future endeavors.

That is what happens when one person owns a network as large as FOX. Rupert Murdoch was just over in England trying to get legislation to charge for e-mails on the internet. Send that greedy, old, right wing nut back to Australia. Deport him if necessary. He runs around the world acting like a partisan bully. Remember the Republicans never do anything for this country they only do things to this country.

The Obama cheerleader PSMNBC (supposedly a 'real' news organization) blatantly edits a black man out of video footage in order to promote 'white racists' and the lunatic-liberal mantra of racism as the cause of Obama opposition (that is because lunatic-liberals lack critical thinking skills).

Is there such a thing as a polite liberal? I assume they use terms like "tea-baggers" and "circle jerk" because they are intellectually incapable of having a civil discussion with issues. They have to act like the big bad bullies of the play ground, and show us they are mad. Hate hate hate, fear fear fear. Yeah yeah, we get it. You're the classic play ground bully, and you never matured beyond that point, and now the children are in control and the nation is going to crap. Don't worry kids, we'll take over and try to fix all the damage you have done, if possible.

Try again, Teresa...

I'm well aware of the perils of comparing anything today to 1930s Germany, but let's be clear about this: Fox is the Republican Party's propaganda network, and goofballs like Sean Hannity serve as Conservatives' Joseph Goebbel (Hitler's propaganda minister). While loyal Fox viewers lap up all that is prepared and served to them on this pathetic "fair and balanced news" (how utterly laughable) network," they should instead be insulted that Fox thinks so little of its viewers that it manipulates them like cats chasing a string. Good for the White House for taking on Fox. Snarky little back-biting fools like those at Fox always cower in the face of courage, and these slimeballs will slither away into the shadows in the same way. As for those blindly obedient Fox viewers: snap out of it and try living in reality-based America, where truly patriotic people strive to solve real problems with sensible solutions.

Syrin, which conservative blog did you pull your talking points off of? It's a fact my friend, reality leans left. How is life on Mars?

All you have to do is look at the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck and see how off the wall crazy these men are and understand why reality is something they tend to overlook.

You're so hypocrytical. hate? Ignorance? Those are GOP staples! Liberals are termed bleeding hearts because we want to help people, the GOP are the greedy money grubbing, wallet clenching repugnicans who would rather bomb the crap out of other countries than spend money on domestic causes like healthcare of social security.

And I don't watch msnbc, I don't watch cnn or Fox. I read. You might want to try it. I get my news from multiple sources, not one fake news channel.

And you're as intelligent as the nails that we hammer. No offense to the nails.

While the Unemployment rate rose to 10.2% today the Obama White House, which is thin skinned to any criticism, continues to play its childish games concerning Fox News. Is FOX a news network? Last time I clicked by the FOX network, a female impersonating a news commentator was laughing at a man stuck on a ski lift. There was an accident on the ski lift and the man was hanging upside down. His clothing was the only thing holding the man from falling to his death. His pants had been pulled down in the process. Certain areas of the photo had been obscured. The female (won't call her a lady) Fox news impersonator was laughing hysterically at the photos. The two other men were laughing also, however not to the extent of the female's tirade of laughter. I thought, what a bunch of inappropriate, immature and mean babies FOX puts out there to do its bidding.

A year or so ago, there was a report that when Cheney went to hotels, his staff had to set the TV to the FOX, or perhaps FOX-Cheney, network. Talk about thin skin. Biased news is not news. Its propaganda

The plural of sheep is sheep. Sheeps isn't a word.

There is no reason to believe that the WH will back down on this ever. They are moving into a long term strategy to destroy Fox News. Only their destruction will put an end to it. I expect them to unleash the Justice department on Fox and Limbaugh next year when campaigning begins for the new elections. I predict that the Supreme Court will become involved by this time next year.

Libtards are just exercised that their favorite networks and "newspapers" are crashing and burning, and that their "messiah" is a feckless, bumbling, waffler who has pretty much fu(ked up everything he has touched, even when generously given do-overs by the press. They are bitter that they are so shallow as to be unable to penetrate the pathetic MSM smokescreen that shielded their stooge throughout the campaign and the last 9 months of bungling stupidity.

They focus their juvenile outrage and hyperventilation on a cable network they claim is irrelevant, and on politicians and public figures they claim are imbeciles and nobodies.

The funny thing about these kool-aid drinkers is that they aren't even aware that they are their own most savage parodies. It's actually merciful that they are so oblivious: no doubt if the were aware that so many were laughing at them, they would be deeply hurt.

Fixed News Channel/Crazy Glenn Beck and his brainless minions desperately want to return to the way things were on 9/12/01... those were the GOP glory days, when they could get their way by scaring the crap out of everyone and no one would call them on it.

The Wacko Wingnut Teabaggers - asleep for 8 years of Bu$hco war lies and tax cuts for billionaires only to wake up on Jan 20th to find a black man in the White House.

Oh, Noes!!!

Why is everyone so upset the President won't go on Faux News? Oh that's right, because they can't spew hate and bitterness his way. I've never seen so many people so scared and ready to pull their hair out or on the verge of scratching their eyeballs out. Could the real reason be because a black family lives in the white house.

Don't go on Faux News, Mr. President. Faux News and their king, Rush Limpballs are teetering on the edge. Any minute they are going to crack. One can hear it in the comments posted.

Can you point out one site on your list that is not for the left. Get real or go home.

You might (or might not) recall that George W. Bush boycotted MSNBC. Nobody seems to remember that......

REALLY I can found nothing to back you up on that. Stop the lies we are get that from the WH.

Any news outlet (Faux) that would feature Crazy Glenn Beck is not a news outlet, it's a comedy channel.

Posted by: DrainYou | November 6, 2009 3:17 PM

REALLY where does that put Olbermann, Maddcow, and Ed on MSNBC.

The more Faux News lies, the more they expose themselves as ugly, mentally ill, hateful hypocrites to ANYONE (not Wingnuts) who's not completely brainwashed.

Steve Doocy Calls Out Keith Olbermann's Lies

After Gretchen Carlson responded to Olbermann’s intelligence insult, Doocy noted Olbermann’s claim he does not go after public figure’s children, but named Doocy’s own son "Worst Person in the World." Doocy fumed "So next time you see Keith Olbermann on TV, just remember he is somebody who picks on people’s children. And he is a liar."

And look a whole site of Maddow's lies.

It's a sad day for America when the president has his people fighting a news organization that asks tough questions, rather than fighting unemployment and terrorists (yes, the correct label is "terrorists," not "man-made-disasters"!

Faux News is marginalized by a huge majority of the population. It's probably marginalized by most of the smarter Republicans too, but they still like to use Faux News to train their idiot base. Republicans with money and power use, manipulate and punk the ignorant Republican base rubes who can't think for themselves. What's left of todays Republican base are nothing but stupid people who vote against their own self interests because they do what they are told to do by the likes of Faux News and Mullah Rush.

Here's a "how to" video on how Faux and other right wing "news" outlets go about their daily business:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQnmxW-UyKo

I notice a lot of commenters here declaring this story to be untrue because a) it relies on anonymous sources and b) the White House denies it. So to these people I ask the following questions: 1) Did you believe NYT stories that used anonymous sources during the Bush years?; 2) Did you believe the Bush administration when they denied the veracity of those anonymously-sourced reports?; 3) Why?

It's kind of hard to feel sorry for Fox. When you have to put "Fair & Balanced" under your logo, as a form of damage control because of all the stories you make up, you have no one else to blame but yourself.

Fox deserves to be called out. They're not a news outlet, they're the media arm of the Republican party.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDR47EKTrCQ
.

I was just reading that 30% of Fox News' viewers consider themselves liberal. Weird how President Obama and his Keystone Kops handlers want to alienate just about everyone.

Bush did EXACTLY the same thing with MSNBC, except MSNBC wasn't encouraging people to physically harm the President and members of Congress.

I think I will trust Fox News more fthan I will trust anything this current Administration has to say from now on.

Sorry, but I just don't dig dictatorial-style censorship.

Names or it didn't happen.

Obama yesterday: "i'd like to give a shout out ... now on to the tragedy at Ft Hood" ... "let's not jump to conclusions about the accused being muslim" ... BUT Obama jumps to conclusions about Cambridge and the cop/professor!
Obama is a JOKE !!!!!!
He is a sleeper muslim!

This is just another play from the GW Bush white house playbook and complaints from conservatives are just plain hypocrisy. I don't like this behavior, no matter which party uses it and I am not being hypocritical when I condemn it. But, I will say it again and again, once an administration has grabbed a previously unused (or, in this case, rarely used) power, all future administrations will build upon that to their advantage. So conservatives, don't pull the abused innocent act: if you did not complain about the Bush admin's extreme and inappropriate control of its brand, I don't want to hear you complain about the Obama admin doing the same.

My children can sleep at night knowing the White House is keeping the media safe from Fox News. This gives the rest of the media time to reflect on the approaching weeks for the White House.

Sadly, I will regret voting for this President for the rest of my life.

Fool me once, shame on you....well, no more fooling me the next time.

This is the dumbest story I've ever read. Hmmm, the strategist spoke under a condition of anonymity... how convenient. This does not pass the Fox BS test. Don't fall for the "Fox is a victim" garbage. They LOVE this. The invented this "controversy" and they are profiting from it. This has so little to do with the White House. You can bet that if there was a ban on Fox news David Plouffe would not appear on the network. It just doesn't pass the BS test. But then, Fox viewers enjoy nothing more than have a reason to be angry... so it feeds right into their mentality. Just remember Fox viewers, you are being used, used, used the more viewers Fox sucks in with their nonsense the more they can charge for advertising. They want big numbers and will stop at nothing (if the truth doesn't sell, they make crap up) to enrage you, incite you and make you feel afraid. They are laughing at you and laughing all the way to the bank. The sooner you learn this has nothing to do with Obama or his administration the better off we will all be... because we won't have to read about tabloid antics.

It's no wonder why nobody watches that channel. Who are these freaks? Someone yells "ALLAH AKBHAR!" and shoots up a room of random innocent unarmed soldiers and we shouldn't look at Islamic terrorism as the motive?

Even more bizarre, they were arguing that he broke because of PTSD over the grief over his treatment of soldiers? So what is their conclusion? That he would murder innocent soldiers??? What sense does that speculation make? Might as well say he shot everyone up because he was anti-Gun!

"Notice the condescension, the arrogance, read their names, and look at all the insults. They ALL spout the same talking points over and over again." - Posted by Syrin

That is their modus operandi. The tired schtick of "Faux/Fake News is an arm of the Republican party" (notice they don't usually say "conservative"). They don't want to wander off the reservation and attempt to provide examples for this alleged "fake news" reporting on the part of Fox.

As for the elitism, it's a common trait among those on the left and has been for some time. They like looking down upon people who hold different views. It's how assclowns boost their self-esteem.

Here's an interesting factoid from yesterday's Teabagger freak show at the Capitol:

By the time their freak show was over, medics had administered government-run health care to at least five Teabaggers in the crowd who were stricken as they denounced government-run health care.

.

.

And then the Teabaggers shuffled back to the socialist Metro to go home ...

Any Dems out there with the NADS to stand up to the Chicago thugs? I hope so. I don't watch FOX news but it does lean right but all three networks, MSNBC, and CNN all lean left and seldom ask any hard questions of this administration.

The Obama administration is starting to act like Hitler & Stalin who first gained control of the media, before enslaving the population. Change we can believe in.

Posted by: Terry | November 6, 2009 11:49 AM

Terry needs strong drugs and a lesson is fairness. That having been said, the White House stance toward Fox bothers me. Fox is highly partisan and it's too bad they idiots like Sean Hannity for commentary. But the White House should not lower itself to that level., What does it say to other nations when the so-called strongest government in the world is fighting with a news network?

Let President Nixon rest in peace! He paid his price in spades. People should really consider starting impeachment proceedings on our man that holds the office right now. He starting to make Carter look good.

and "CHICAGO Politics" come to the White House

Diagree- more like third world Dictatorship.

Uh, a Democratic strategist had to be told not to appear on FOX news. How much money does this guy make and how do I get his job, because I'm pretty sure I could do strategy for the party better than he has been? This explains a lot.

Many of you look at this as just a peeing match between BO and Fox, but it could have deeper meanings.

Being a "news organization" carries certain rights. For example, a news media organization is exempt from campaign finance laws. If BO is successful in getting Fox News to not be a news organization, then all the time they spend on commentary could be considered "in-kind- campaign contributions"

Do you want the gov't involved in political speech and who can deliver it?

I guess Obama doesn't like news outlets who's editorialists fail to achieve "thrill running up my leg" bliss in His presence.

Get your facts straight!! It was reported about 2 weeks ago that only 20% OF VOTERS IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS REPUBLICANS!! And this was on the EVENING NEWS, not FOX RAVING LUNATIC NEWS!!!

The funny thing, this is definitely a form of censorship and you have people arguing for it! LOL . . . welcome to the future of amerika, the govt will only talk to you if you agree with them! Remember flag.gov? There is a pattern of this that should be alarming but alas you have people arguing for it. CONCERNING?

You realize that this might all just be a big smoke screen for bigger things: the socialized healthcare bill, and the climate (cap and trade) treaty. Next month, Obama is going to Copenhagen (again) to sign a "Climate Treaty". How many are aware of what this treaty states? In this treaty, American taxpayers get to PAY third world (underdeveloped) countries for all of the harm we've done to the earth by being a successful, industrialized nation. Oh yes, the socialist nations of Europe LOVE this treaty, as do the third world nations: they're just licking their chops to get some free money (which we don't have) out of us. Anybody out there think India and China are going to be in Copenhagen to sign it? If you do, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you!

From the above article: Fox's viewership is not what worries the White House, though. More troubling to White House aides is that other news organizations may uncritically follow stories that Fox has showcased.
Like this article?
You quote a Fox contributor who said he heard from some who said they heard about what was said to others, but he didn't name names. This article is just like a FN piece. There is nothing here but slander. Nothing!
I'm glad this administration is doing at least something about this. And, note, they are not restricting Fox or threatening with laws or action. The administration is just letting FN marginilize themselves.

Welcome to Obongo's Amerikkka!

I can just see FOX framing the issue: "Why is Obama scared of us?" This is a sad comment on the lack of impartial reporting on television, everything is distorted to sell advertising and no one has any interest in the truth. It is laughable to hear WH comm. dir. Anita Dunn imply that the other news networks are somehow...news networks. All television networks are only interested in framing the video bites of the day to suit the tastes of their viewers, nothing has any depth or substance, and the only rational solution is to turn those flat screens off, enjoy your life, and save some electricity.

Bush did EXACTLY the same thing with MSNBC, except MSNBC wasn't encouraging people to physically harm the President and members of Congress.

Posted by: Alex | November 6, 2009 4:52 PM

Name one time, just one time, where anyone at Fox News encouraged any type of harm on any member of Congress or this current Administration.

Come on, Alex, name just one!

Time was when the was "yellow journalism". Now there are "yellow politicians". No wonder Obama is having trouble making a decision about Afghanistan or what to do about unemployment.

to all you bleeding heart neo-cons, how often did Bush go on a show and promote his party? If Rush Bimbo ever let people with opposing views talk, his program would be trashed. DITTOS RUSH is the only thing his producers let on the air.

Fox should do anon interviews from now on, with faces in the dark and voices altered.

Make a point of stating that this is being done to protect the guest from retaliation by the President.

You've gotta love the low IQ goober haters who make up todays Republikkkan party. They were asleep for 8 years of Bu$hco war lies and tax cuts for billionaires only to wake up and be SHOCKED on Jan 20th to find a black man in the White House.

Morons....all of them.

Trickled On John E,

When you get to 5th grade, you will understand civics.

I don't think this is true. I don't believe it because Obama is so NICE!!! He's such a great guy, someone to really change the ugly bipartisanship that we had for the last eight years. His speeches make me cry with hope. I mean, that's why I voted for him since he's so calm and fair and, really just wonderful!

...not.

I always wondered how Hitler ever came to power and how so many people believed him even though it was obvious what kind of person he was. Many people are hateful and will believe something to hate someone. The WH needs you to hate so he can keep you blind of all that is going on.

This whole thing is so obviously wrong. This is clearly backlash from Acorn and Van Jones. Wonder what else they are covering up? I need to start watching fox.

Obama; the great baloney slicer. He promised transparency, I can see right through him. He does not believe in freedom of thought, freemdom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of personal beliefs, free enterprise, or freedom of choice. On what moral qualification or Constitutional grounds did he EVER become President?

Faux and Druggy Rush are where the Wingnuts gather to get all of their talking points.

The right-wing lunatic fringers have the mental capacity of a third grader on a sugar high. They can't think for themselves so they have to constantly be fed easy to digest slogans and propaganda lines without the use of big confusing words.

Watching Fox News is like watching professional wrestling. Its loud, its brash and highly opinionated. It can be entertaining at times but shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Watching Fox News is like watching professional wrestling. It is loud, it is brash, it is highly opinionated and hard to take seriously.

We stopped watching Fox News six years ago when we realized it was nothing more than a National Enquirer of the air waves. Not surprising since owner Rupert Murdoch also owns STar, an Enquirer look-alike.

Here is what people don't understand. Yes Fox News Channel has conservative opinion shows (Beck, O'Riley and Hannity), but it has several news broadcasts which provide commentary from both the right and the left. All other news such as NBC, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, and PBS all have a liberal slant. I would love to see a conservative president in next who only allows FNC in the White House. It would be nice to hear the liberals howl.

This is just another in a long line of Obama administration gaffes.

If ya can't handle the heat .... get out of the White House!

Looking forward to the '12 election when we can end this mess of an administration.

It's OK

Open....open.....

MMM....does that hurt?

I should think it would.....

You have a, quite a cavity there......

IS IT SAFE?

Yes, right wingers....I've found the right tooth to drill.....

Until, of course, you can tell us that it's safe......

Oh come on, of course they are boycotting FOX. Any reasonably sane person would agree that they are not a valid news channel. They thrive on conflict, lies, mis-truths, etc. Their audience are a bunch of ignorant,short-sighted and selfish dolts. They wrap themselves in the flag at every opportunity and won't shut up about how they support the troops in order to appear as true Americans. I automatically write off any Fox viewers as simply brainless.

Fox News is no more right leaning than Rachel Mad-Dog and Keith Older-Man are left leaning. Mad-Dog is the personification of sarcasm; and if Older-Man were any more jealous of O'Reilly and Hannity and angry that he'll never be able to come close to their success, his face would explode right off his head! Older-Man should have stuck to sports, where the boys are! He'll never be able to keep up with the real men. Now Mad-Dog, that's another matter...she comes closer to being a man than he does...but she still stinks at being whatever it is she's trying to be. Is it a journalist? Is it a news anchor? Is it a pundit? No, once a jerk, always a jerk.

Patrick Caddell had a serious break with the democrats in 1988 and has since been an apologist for republican misbehavior and an outspoken critic of democrats. He is not an unbiased source. Conveniently he wasn't approached, it was just a case of "I heard from another guy". Other than him, we have unnamed sources. The White House official is not named, so no one can defend themselves from this accusation. Way to keep the conspiracy theorists fed, Mr. Nicholas.

but, but, this is my favorite brand of Kool Aid!

"One Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.

The message was, "We better not see you on again,'' said the strategist, who spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to run afoul of the White House. An implicit suggestion, he said, was that "clients might stop using you if you continue.''

In urging Democratic consultants to spurn Fox, White House officials might be trying to isolate the network and make it appear more partisan."

If this pundit is the only one that has been warned, the WH would know who he/she is.

This implies that this pundit knows that many more have also been warned by the WH not to appear on FOX.

We are now living in Russia or Venezuela, not America.

Well, at least The Dem Stategist received a warning?! Anyone caught bad- mouthing Hitler in 1944 Nazi Germany usually just "disappeared" in the night. With Chairman ObaMao and his administration in charge, I sure wouldn't answer my door in the middle of the night.

Anyone that describes a news agency as leaning either left or right does not understand news reporting whatsoever. News reporting is to be neutral not infulenced by lawyers that sell news time as FOX does. Fox started out as a cable channel promoting minority viewership. NOT. The matkerting is not minority oriented nor is the programming.

Rupert Murdock needs to just move on with his agenda of trying to take down America's leadership simply becasue he does not agree with the current leadership direction. We did not agree with ther previous administration's direction but we had no outlet to speak out.

When politicians can purchase and control the media outlets that is no longer news but political spin, with a personal agenda.

Patrick

HaHa, real Change...!

Wow, made a huge "Bow" to King of Japan, but blunders a really "heart felt" speech to us all regarding the FT Hood shootings...Without Fox to show us the details of that speech, I don't know if it were to be played on any other channels???

Why does the left restrict freedom of people who do not agree with them?
