The Swamp

The couple who apparently crashed a White House State Dinner got an invitation to another government event: The House Homeland Security Committee announced that it will hold a hearing this week on how they gave security the slip.

In a statement posted on the committee's website, Chairman Bennie G. Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, said he had requested that Tareq and Michaele Salahi testify before the panel.

Also asked to appear was Mark Sullivan, head of the Secret Service, which handles security for the White House. Sullivan has formally apologized for the incident, which he called an embarrassment to the agency.

"This is a time for answers, recognition of security deficiencies past and present, and remedies to ensure the strength of the Secret Service and the safety of those under its protection," Thompson said.

"This is not the time for political games or scapegoating to distract our attention from the careful oversight we must apply to the Secret Service and its mission. My confidence in the management of the Secret Service hangs in the balance," he said.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

The Salahis, who were not on the official guest list, attended the State Dinner for the Indian prime minister last week and even shook hands with President Barack Obama and others on the receiving line. The couple reportedly were in the running for a reality television show.

This needs to be fixed right away. The Secret Service is short on man power and under funded.

Since President Obama took office in January he has been receiving around 30 death threats per day from wannabe right wing domestic terrorists.

I just hope that NO ONE gives these money-grubbing IDIOTS any money, which is what they're looking for. Larry King canceled their appearance on HIS show. Thank you Larry!

I'm all for government transparancy, but this hearing should be closed to media:

1. it's the SECRET service;
2. politicians tend to do less grandstanding w/out cameras in the room;
3. these two narcissists are WAY beyond their 15 minutes of fame, They should be negotiating plea bargains.

Well, they were pitching for a reality show - will this be enough reality for them? Guess there is something to the old saying "Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it"! I say they're no better than balloon boy's parents and they should definitely get some prison time - both of them!

Wow, one would think that you'd at least post a cite that backed your claim. Nowhere in that article did it mention that the threats were from right-wing domestic terrorists. I guess you never learned that lying is wrong.

The real question is how many more publicity stunts we'll have to put up with from nitwits trying to get on "reality" tv.

Hahaha, great security. What a joke, now you are making them tell you how stupid you are! Im moving to Canada!

Joe

Please!!!

This "former nothing" blasts his goofy horn daily and for???

Besides being half a sandwhich short of a picnic basket "former whatever" (you lie) just aanswer one question?

Why is the Secret Service so short on man power and under funded? I mean, with the Democrats in total control of Congress for the last three years now, who is to blame for that?

No, Bush is not an acceptable answer and neither is the term Republican in any conceivable way.

Well, you've made it from former infant to juvenile, good for you!

"The House Homeland Security Committee announced that it will hold a hearing this week on how they gave security the slip." It wasn't covered on an episode of 24.

Really -- is there no punishment headed their way? This was not crashing the Super Bowl for free. Part of me says "way to go - what a good prank!" But much more of me says this could have been scary, no matter what the Secret Service says they didn't have on them.....and maybe it is also their pure crassness that needs a huge comeuppance

Einstein the Teabagger.

While you've been busy sucking on a Teabag, your fellow right wingers have been busy demonstrating exactly why they deserve to never be in power again in this country.

That's the kind of stuff that causes Secret Service shortages, you mouth-breathing goober.

Its undefunded because Republicans have filibustered EVERY single time the bill comes to vote. TeaBaggers are TeaBagging and GOP lawmakers are intimidated from voting for anything that can be labeled as a spending bill. Just last term Democrats brought 5 bills to increase funding for the Secret Service and John McCain filibustered every one w/ the help of Boehner and Cantor. Keep TeaBagging, you're compromising the safety of our country.

Did they crash the party to "qualify" for a reality TV show? If so, this says a lot about the prestige of the White House; now it's only a kind of minor league for the entertainment industry.

Rumor has it, she is in line for the 'Real Housewives of DC'. Sounds like hubby wants to be a hanger-on like that guy in the NY series.

These people committed a crime. They lied to gain access to the President. It is called fraud, and this should caring some kind of official punishment, maybe not jail, but enough to let them know that what they did can not be tolerated.

They should be given a medal for showing the Secret Service how pathetic their security is. They passed all the entrance checks, so what law did they break? The Secret Service has egg on it's face and they want to make these people pay for their shortcomings. Next time it could be someone out to harm the President, so maybe they need to regroup and see what went wrong so it doesn't happen again.

I think they should be the first "guests" at the Thompson Prison to warm it up. Obama can stand the distraction to teach these morons and future morons a lesson.

No need for secret hearings. Here's what they are going to find.

The blonde bomb shell says, "We're white. We're entitled."

And Goober - the SS agent - says, "Well, GOLLY!"

Next thing you know, they're in!

Yes, what really matters here is blame. That's what's wrong with this country. Not enough people pointing fingers. How about all of the crazy Republicans and the crazy Democrats all get together and point at each other and the rest of the country can actually, I don't know, govern? How about solving a problem based on what is a good solution instead of starting with whom you can BLAME? My goodness. Petty, small and irritating, "Springfield."

I agree with Kenny. Time expired. However, the protocol/events team blew something here as well. They always manage these things tightly, door to door, with the security personnel.

Springfield has not yet made the connection that slinging insults and lies is no way to argue a case intelligently.

Springfield, you are illustrating to perfection what those of your ilk resort to when confronted with something you disagree with, or more likely , are afraid of – you sputter and spit out ridiculous non-arguments and insults. Maybe if you and your little posse of ignorant blowhards had some facts or reasoned arguments on your side, you’d be able to communicate with the rest of us humans….

Oops. Stooped to your level. (head smack). Shame on me.

They shook hands with Bushbama? SO WHAT!!!! Who (with an actual life) cares?

As for the goose-stepping statists suggesting that they did something wrong and should be punished: yes, we pay this dolt's salary, but god forbid that the peasants could actually TOUCH his imperial majesty.

Well played, Biff

I wouldn't expect anything different coming from a talking out of my arse, "I want my WHITE country back", Teabagger goon like yourself

Is there any agency that isn't underfunded? Simply take the best of the best, pay them more and fire the rest. PAY FOR QUALITY not for TAKING UP SPACE..

I hope these idiots don't make a dime and no one pays them thousands of $$$ for interviews. I am sure some stupid network will though and no one can stop them. These people should be ashamed of themselves. SS messed up and this isn't the 1st time either. They need to do their job correctly!!!

I return the compliment to Neo.

ABC reported this evening that social secretary Desiree Rogers was MIA and was not with security to clear and greet guests (although I also heard that there was more than one entrance). Obama friend or not, this was poor form, and I hope no Secret Service agents get thrown under the bus to protect her dereliction of duty.

How is it we know way more than we ever cared to know about Tiger Woods' Escalade escapade and still don't know the tick tock on how these bozos got in??

I don't see what Deseree Rogers has to do with this.

Did they at least pay for dinner?

LOL! Obama has a security breach on top of all the other egg-on-the-face-stupid-president-tricks that he has performed since fooling the mindless into voting for him, and all you nasty little liberals can do is continue to show your third grade Mental State. I'm sure that it's your fellow breathren that are guarding your president, and doing such a fine job, since you and them couldn't find your rearends with a GPS device.

Given your handle (and you must have paid in full), I can't fault the totally nonsensical comment. And does "Teabagger" refer to your belief that I am anti-tax? If so, at least you got that part correct.

Please post again after you repeat 4th grade for the fifth time. :)

The reason they won't testify to Congress is because they are now starting to smell a possible indictment and a court room. Those spell bad juju for this group of hustlers. They need to see what being behind bars really looks like from the other side.

Put them in Jail!!! This appeared to be planned. Rented a limo and that Bravo crew. To many good people will be impacted by those folks (Salahi). I guess those folks (Salahi) will be at the Super Bowl?

There's a movement to radically change California government, by getting rid of career politicians and chopping their salaries in half. A group known as Citizens for California Reform wants to make the California legislature a part time time job, just like it was until 1966.
