It's been a good year for FOX News:
For many of its news and opinion shows, the best year yet.
It may help the already No. 1-rated cable news channel to have a Democratic White House declare war -- or at least have the spokesmen and women of the Obama administration maintaining, as they did at one point this year, that FOX is not really a news network, in the traditional sense.
It may help to have a mouth like Glenn Beck's, testing the boundaries of political commentary on air (how hard is it, really, to pronounce Rep. Jan Schakowsky's name?) and making his own rounds of other network talk shows -- with rival Keith Olbermann of MSNBC declaring Beck "worst person in the world.'' Plus Bill O'Reilly, already king of the cable news commentary hill.
FOX's toughest critics predicted that "the network of the Bush administration'' - the one to which the former White House's TVs were tuned, the one which former Vice President Dick Cheney favored for interviews - would have a tough time with an Obama White House.
"Eight years ago the all-news cable channel went all-in on the presidency of George Bush and became a broadcast partner with the White House,'' media critic Eric Boehlert wrote last year. "The point is that Fox News years ago made an obvious decision to appeal almost exclusively to Republican viewers. The good news then for Fox News was that it succeeded. The bad news now for Fox News is that it succeeded.''
FOX, for its part, figures it helps to have a solid lineup of both news and commentary, including some hired Democrats - such as Joe Trippi, who served as manager of Democrat Howard Dean's presidential campaign in 2004 and starts as a FOX contributor after the New Year -- in the stable of a decidedly conservative battery of commentary.
Still, critics have questioned how the news sometimes is slanted: With old videotape of big rallies for TEA Party protesters or Sarah Palin finding their way into new stories where smaller crowds have turned out. FOX, for its part, has chalked those up to control-room error.
Whatever the formula, year-end numbers tell the story: cable news market share.pdf
The Nielsen Media Research reports through the week before Christmas show that FOX scored its highest viewership in its 13 years , the No. 1 cable news channel for eight years running. FNC also ranked as the No. 3 cable network in prime-time, No. 4 in total-day viewership.
FOX's overall share of the cable news market grew from 38 percent in 2008 to 44 percent in 2009.
CNN, meanwhile, slipped to third place in primetime cable news programming among the sought-after 25-54 age group - behind FOX and MSNBC. CNN ranked No. 23 in prime-time cable generally, 21 during the total day. MSNBC: No. 24 in prime-time, 30 in total day.
All of Fox News Channel's programs gained viewers over the previous year, while CNN's and MSNBC's were down. Among that 25-54 crowd, all of FNC's programs were up double-digits over 2008. FNC was up 8 percent in prime-time among the 25-54 viewers over the previous year, CNN down 9 percent, MSNBC down 3 percent.
Through Dec. 23, Nielsen reports:
-- Fox News Channel's total viewership was 2.58 million, up 7 percent over the previous year. Among the 25-54 year olds: 653,000, up 11 percent.
-- CNN's total viewership was 1 million, down 32 percent. Among the 25-54 set: 304,000, down 27 percent.
-- MSNBC's total viewership was 958,000 , down 12 percent. Among the 25-54 crowd: 304,000, down 27 percent.

The fallacy is calling it a news outlet...it is entertainment for the rabid. Let's see who else has a larger audience than Faux......
1) Oprah
2) Dr. Phil
3) Two-half Men
4) Judge Judy
5) Family Guy
6) Jeopardy
7) Seinfeld
8) George Lopez
9) CSI Miami
10) King of Queens
11) Wheel of Fortune
and the list goes on.....

The GOP has turned into a circle jerk of misinformation, propaganda and out right lies - led by Mullah Rush and Fake News Channel.
If this doesn't scare Republicans I don't know what will - GOP Approval Ratings go down, Fox's Ratings go up.

The Wingnuts love Faux because it's all pretty colors, flashing lights and waving flags. That's all they need.
But on serious note, I think they like it because it's not too mentally taxing. They don't have to actually absorb the information, take the time to parse out the positions of both sides and come to a conclusion.
It's like shorthand news - black vs. white and up vs down is really easy to understand, and get upset about, if needs be. In the Wingnuts uninformed, one "news" source based bizarro reality, they're arguments all end with - "cause we say so".

If the ratings for ClusterFox are a reflection of how Americans feel then why in 2006 & 2008 (when Faux was also leading in the ratings) did the Republicans get their butts kicked?
Faux will always win the ratings game, they're not a real news outlet.

While you're attempting to talk about "mental power" and intellect, try using a grammar and spell-checker. Example: You meant to say "their" instead of your use of "they're."
For years, it was no secret that the big news channels and programs were left leaning. Then came the Fox News Channel which was center-right. They filled a market void that was purposely ignored for years and years and now they are prospering because of it. It's called the free market. Fox News is center-right; CNN is center-bordering left; MSNBC is center-left. It leaves an outlet for all and is based on the beautiful free-market. Right now the market leans right.

After reading "Sensible" I went back to the top and looked at the picture he spoke about.
It appears to me that it is just a group of individuals, some of whom are in patriotic costumes, attending a rally.
I see nothing frightening at all in the picture.
What is frightening is when one side of the political spectrum attempts to belittle and demonize the opposing side for stating their concerns and the main-stream-media aids and abets their effort!
The media is supposed to report the news and not take sides. That includes Beck, Olbermann and other so-called reporters.

Planet Wingnuttia,
I never knew that. But seriously when is Bill coming back from vacation? I need some more talking points from the "no spin" zone about how healthcare votes were brokered. I honestly think Obama waits for O'Reilly to go on vacation before he passes any legislation. Seems to be the pattern here. Face it, he's scared of Bill. Now excuse me I have to order more Factor gear & buy his next book...
Also don't be sad, there's still the Glen Beck show you can tune into if your bored.

Reasons why Fox is NOT A REAL NEWS CHANNEL:
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.......PROMOTE and COVER their own protests.
http://mediamatters.org/research/200908280029
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Lie about the total number of people at the rally THEY PROMOTED...
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=380_1239836462&c=1
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Force people at a protest to make more noise to look good on TV.
http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909180037
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Have NEWS ANCHORS that accuse the president of making a TERRORIST FIST JAB!
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200806060007
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t.... Have NEWS ANCHORS that calls the current administration a bunch of CRY BABIES
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/19/snubbed-by-obama-fox-news_n_292254.html
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Go out of their way to bash the current administration by using OLD FOOTAGE and lying by saying it’s recent footage, and CROPPING it to make it look like something else was said!
http://www.dailykostv.com/w/001014/
>> A REAL NEWS ORGANIZATION doesn’t... Pass off RNC press releases as their OWN FACTS (including the typos)
http://mediamatters.org/research/200902100019?f=h_top
All of the examples cited are from Fox’s so-called NEWS ANCHORS... not the whackjob Opinion people like O’Reily, Hannity, and Beck.
This should be pointed out because the line is blurred between journalism and opinion on Fox.
The video examples above are plain and simple, Fox can’t spin their way out of it. They have been called out on the carpet time and time again... EVERYONE KNOWS THIS! Including those reporters taking up for Fox News.

NO, What is frigthening is bitter, angry white people are suddenly so "concerned" about deficits and unnecessary spending. During 8 years of Bush rule I never saw any angry mob descend onto town halls to TeaBag Congressmen and Congresswomen. These TeaParty protests took place only after we elected a Black Democrat for POTUS. And don't fall back on that, "we hate both parties" garbage. You had a TeaParty Patriot running in 2008. His name was Ron Paul and you and others thought he was a joke so you stood up on your hind legs and you supported John McCain and Palin. And. You. Lost. Get over it!

Hi, JohnEEE-Boy,
.
We haven’t interacted in a while, have we? But enough pleasantries. I have some questions for you, as in the following:
.
1. Are you the person who goes by the screen name “sensible” (along with all of your other aliases)? Because, if you aren’t “sensible,” then my comments weren’t directed to you and I am not interested in your response. In less polite terms, if you are not “sensible,” you can put a sock in it and mind your own business.
.
2. If, however, you are “sensible” (the person) then I have to ask how it feels to justify racism. Your comment about “foaming at the mouth gangs …” etc. is nothing but an excuse to direct animosity toward a particular group identified as “white people.” That makes it racist. If you had simply identified them as ‘Republicans’ or ‘tea-baggers’ (or the like), it would have lacked the racial content that makes it racist.
.
Let’s put the shoe on the other foot for a second. Let’s just say I had made some racist comment about black, brown or ‘colored’ people, and someone called me on it for its racist content. Would it be any less racist if I then attempted to justify my comment by saying: “I’ve yet to see foaming at the mouth, gangs of inspired white people rioting and looting in the streets of L.A. Call me when it happens, okay?” Does that make it okay now, or is it simply a racist justification? I say it’s the latter.
.
You should think a little harder before wanking away on your keyboard next time. Then again, I have never seen anything to indicate that we should expect anything more than the hateful, vulgar and idiotic stuff you normally spew, huh?

Fox News actually provides balance. They hire Democrats as well as Republicans--even the DNC Swamp named 7 Democrats who opine for Fox.
And Fox is having its best year ever.
Perhaps if the DNC Swamp would hire as many Republicans as Fox does Democrats, they'd do better. Perhaps if they hired even ONE Republican.....

I see the Liberals still think that Fox news is not news. Just like on MSNBC after a certain hour it comes opinion programming. What is so hard for liberals to understand this I mean my Lord even CNN has opinion programming. Right now ratings at Fox news are higher than MS NBC and CNN combined. Headline news has higher ratings than CNN. What is really funny is how Fox has broke news stories but, it is hard to find the last time MSNBC or CNN has done that. TMZ as a better record of breaking a story lately than MSNBC and CNN combined.
In the coming year the Liberals will be crying even louder that Fox news network is not a news network. Because Fox will most likely be the only one for a few days to post the paperwork that Acorn tried to hide from the California State Atty. Gen. Fox news will most likely be the only news outlet that reports on the scheduled rallies coming to a town near you soon. This administration made a big mistake when it attacked Fox. That turned voters not affiliated with either party against the Democratic party. Just like Cap & Trade along with Obama care is turning even more against them. So yes the Fox news network were big winners this past year and it looks like they will stay that way as long as the other networks cover for the Democrats. But it would seem they have learned their lesson and are starting to actually try to report all the news not just the news that is favorable to the left.
Posted by: Crooks_In_DC | December 31, 2009 10:34 AM
You have to love how the liberals will defend the mainstream media and say they are not leaning towards the left. Here are just a few quotes from the mainstream media in the year 2009;
Melissa Lafsky of Discover magazine for the Huffington Post:
“[One wonders what] Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted’s death, and what she’d have thought of the life and career that are being heralded. Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.”
So this liberal mouthpiece is saying that it was okay for Ted Kennedy to murder Mary Jo Kopechne. Oh there are more;
Evan Thomas, assistant managing editor at Newsweek:
“Obama is, ‘We are above that now. We’re not just parochial, we’re not just chauvinistic, we’re not just provincial. We stand for something.’ I mean, in a way, Obama’s standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of God. He’s going to bring all different sides together.”
ABC’s Bill Weir, who said at Obama’s inauguration:
“Never have so many people shivered so long with such joy. From above, even the seagulls must have been awed by the blanket of humanity.”
Couric:
“I am honored to be joined today by the Godfather of Green, the King of Conservation: Former Vice President Al Gore.”
And this one from Katie is really a joke. She only asked softball questions like this from Democrats:
“You’re so confident, Mister President, and so focused. Is your confidence ever shaken? Do you ever wake up and say, ‘Damn, this is hard. Damn, I’m not going to get the things done I want to get done, and it’s just too politicized to really get accomplished the big things I want to accomplish’?”
And after hearing Ed Schultz spouts this hate how can the left even say anything about the likes of Limbaugh or Hannity:
“The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead. They’d rather make money off your dead corpse. They kind of like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her.”
Yes now you know why Fox news is stumping the other networks when it comes to ratings. When you are that bold in your bias who really cares what you have to say. The problem with most of the other networks is they let their biased leak into their news programs instead of saving it for their editorial programming. The majority of people that vote in this country are not liberals and can see the liberal biased. What really hurt the other news networks was the covering of the Acorn videos and how they tried to brush it off. But, after the third video they could no longer cover for them and they were caught in the cover-up. The other news networks will have a chance in 2010 to report news the way they should. Let's see if they do. Will they cover the protests over this administrations spending and immigration bill. Will they cover the protest this April fairly and not the way CNN did. Will they cover the Acorn papers once they start to be released that shows the corruption and voter registration fraud and their connection to this administration. Will they report on the members of Congress who at this time are covering for Acorn and will not allow any investigation into Acorn. Time will only tell if the other news networks along with the mainstream media can survive if they do not return to their roots.
