The Swamp

by Mark Silva

The GTMO (as in Guantanamo Bay Naval Station) Latinos defeated the GTMO Assassins this year - and we're not talking about terrorism or detention here.

We're talking volleyball.

The latest news from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, courtesy of the appropriately named magazine of the Guantanamo Joint Task Force - "The Wire'' - features not the travails of emptying a military-run prison for detainees in the "war on terror,'' but rather the triumph of the GTMO Latinos - season champs in the base men's volleyball league.

"The final match-up in the single elimination tournament took place at G.J.Denich Gym, Nov. 12, between the two teams,'' The Wire reports. "The third-seeded GTMO Assassins won the first game 25-14. The fourth-seeded GTMO Latinos came back in the second game with a 25-17 win. The GTMO Latinos took the championship by taking the third game 16-14.''

The Wire.jpg

In the women's league, the Sparkle Monkeys finished first, MP Battalion second, Lady Pirates third.

The edition, which comes to us courtesy of the good archivists at St. Lous University, also features a rough review of the film, A Christmas Carol, by a Naval petty officer. "For a movie starring Jim Carrey ("Yes Man," "Liar Liar," "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective"), I was expecting more laughs from "A Christmas Carol,'' the reviewer writes "Actually, I was expecting a comedic movie in general, but I was left wondering how this was from Disney/''

The review is headlined: "Bah Hambug.''

Back here in Washington, they're forecasting snow tonight, and no, that doesn't mean the global warming crisis is finished. Down in Cuba, where it surely will not snow, the president may have vowed to close the military prison at Guantanamo, but the Naval Station lives on -- "Safe, humane, legal, transparent,'' as The Wire notes.

Maybe they can start a magazine at the Thomson prison in Illinois when they move some of Guantanamo's detainees there for detention and military commission trials.

So on this festive note, The Swamp, which will be slowing down considerably for a long Christmas week - remember, this is the last night of Hanukkah! - wishes a happy holiday and no climate change for all.

Happy Holidays to Mark and the Homies crowd.

There has always been, and we always will have climate change. Don't be a denier; None of it man made. For example when the volcanic island formerly known as Krakatoa blew up in the 1870s the whole globe had year round winter. Starvation followed from crop failure.

There is no true evidence for AGW. All the "science" comes from cherry picking data from urban area temperatures that are affected by buildings, concrete, etc. Now we have the Russians outing the warming alarmists for cherry picking only the temperature readings from SIberia that show warming, and excluding the rest. THAT MY FRIENDS IS NOT SCIENCE. Bah Humbug to AGW.

Lots of concrete buildings in SIberia Free to watch bla bla bla?

Scot, the scientists haven't been using temperatures from Siberia and other parts of Russia, according to the Russians. Apparnently when those numbers are added, global temperatures aren't as warm as reported.
Also, Scott, for many years Chicago's temps, for instance, were taken along the lakefront, which is generally cooler from spring into fall. Only in winter would the temps be warmer on occasion. Temps are much warmer at O'Hare and Midway, away from the influences of the lake. Does make a difference!

THE AP DESTROYS THE REPUBLICANS PHONY CLIMATEGATE SCANDAL!

In a piece that was just posted today, the AP, after having objectively reviewed the emails from "Climategate" comes out unequivocally on the side of Truth.

"The 1,073 e-mails examined by the AP show that scientists harbored private doubts, however slight and fleeting, even as they told the world they were certain about climate change. However, the exchanges don't undercut the vast body of evidence showing the world is warming because of man-made greenhouse gas emissions."

Yeah.... because there are so many buildings and so much concrete in Siberia......NOT!

Do you right wing apes even bother to read the big oil funded junk science that you swear by before you repeat it?

Hey Airhead, how much are the oil profiteers contributing to the GOP's coofers? I'll bet you don't even care, right? Doesn't it bother you in the least to know that you are nothing more than a useful idiot for the huge coporations who get rich from polluting?

The GTMO Latinos probably had Pretty Latina cheerleaders. That, my friend, would be a most insurmountable advantage, maybe even unfair. Match Over.

The Sparkle M*nk#ys. The “M” word. Can’t say that word. Folks get offended. That team should be forced to change their name to The Sparkle Simians, or relinquish their title. This is the only Political Correct thing to do.

Nothing stops the Global Warming crisis ~ Science, logic, charlatans blaring on and on ad nauseam, blatant out-and-out fraud, the WEATHER, Nothing. But YES! The weather may be frightful, but let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Please. This is better than a 41st Republican Senator. Shut this Load of Crap DOWN! We may be witnessing an intervention. This one is brought to you by GOD.

Scientists offered cash to dispute climate study

The Guardian, Friday 2 February 2007

Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world's largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.

Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded right wing 'think tank' with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Travel expenses and additional payments were also offered.

So the low IQ goobers who make up todays GOP believe that millions of tons of toxic waste are inconsequential? Or that the removal of upwards of 85% of the worlds forests has no impact on the ability of the remaining trees to absorb what are detrimental (in excess) waste gases (CO2)? How about the millions of tons of toxic waste dumped into the oceans per annum, which has resulted in a 60% decline in phytoplankton in the deep oceans, a key photosynthetic biosphere?

These are ABNORMAL influences on the natural cycles, NOT normal cycles, Wingnuts.

Abnormal = human activity (mostly hot air from Wingnuts)

Normal = natural activity.

There doesn't need to be this absurd, funded by big oil, debate about whether or how much or in what form mankind affects the planet and its ecosystems. Of course, we affect the balance of Earth's delicate systems and, there will always be those who deny the human cause and effect relationship regarding global climate changes that is so apparent and that science is imperfectly attempting to quantify.

But the vast majority of humanity should be able to understand and agree that the human species does not "own" this planet that we occupy but, rather are "tenants" for a definite time period of our lives and, that tenancy carries with it a responsiblity to preserve and protect this habitat, our environment and all it entails, for the benefit of future inhabitants and the survival of all species of life on planet Earth.

I love reading the comments on here from the simpletons who make up NASCAR Nation....I mean the Republican party.

The same idiots who were dumb enough to vote for Bush Jr.....twice!.....now want us to believe that they are experts in the field of climatology? Ha ha ha!

They all sound like every member of the Bush administration ever did:

They have their minds made up and no amount of facts or logic will change that. They are change-averse. They fear the unknown. They cling to their AK 47's, their Bibles, Faux news and Druggy Rush like a baby clings to a pacifier.

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all of the contributors here, at " The Swamp ". May your season be filled with joy and peace.
To our men and women, in our Armed Forces, thank you for being there and may you return home, safe and whole.
To all of our less fortunate citizens, may God watch over you and may our economy, jobs and healthcare , take a turn for the better, in this New Year.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

I know a way that might lead us out of this mess: The german government should accept those prisoners and let them fly to germany. And after they landed, refuel the plane and send em straight to china. This way, no diplomatic damage results out of it, and the chinese will know how to deal with them anyway :)

On the Internet, you can surely find a link that will practically say anything. This is what I do know from a few years of working on various Exxon / ExxonMobil capital projects.

- ExxonMobil hires only the best ~ Engineers, Chemists, Physicists, Business majors, Accountants, Lawyers, whatever. If a guy with a Master’s degree is needed, ExxonMobil will hire a guy with a Ph.D. They suffer with neither mistakes, or fools.

- Shell, Chevron, and Phillips all have top tier technology, but ExxonMobil and UOP are consistently at the leading edge of technological knowledge on any subject that relates to their business interests. What they know versus what the rest of us think we know would fill the world’s oceans. ExxonMobil would consistently be No. 1 in energy related technology.

- ExxonMobil would rather concentrate on their core businesses and not be in any storm of controversy on any subject. All Awl companies would. However, as is often said in TX ~
“If you are in business, but not in politics, then you are not in business.”
ExxonMobil is forced to play.

- The political fallout of Global Warming will, of course, hurt ExxonMobil’s core energy production markets ~ gasoline, diesel, natural gas. This, of course, is as intended by those that promote the Global Warming crisis.

- Assuming that there will be some modern standard of living that the World and America will still want to hold onto if the Global Warming Movement does succeed, ExxonMobil, in their technologically driven way, will develop and have proprietary ownership of the high tech science of CO2 / Carbon Sequestration. ExxonMobil will be the licensor and applications expert.

- ExxonMobil, CO2 Sequestration licensor and applications expert, will make more $$$ on carbon sequestration than they ever would have dreamed of, versus the passé business of gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. Global Warming ain't such a bad thing after all.

If Liberals want to decree that a hole in the ground shall be dug to a depth of 10 feet, and that said hole shall be filled with the dirt that was removed from said hole, then ExxonMobil will dig you a hole of 10.0000 feet, fill it in with the removed dirt, make a profit on the dig part, the fill part, and the intrinsic value of the dirt.

ExxonMobil would rather quietly tend to their core businesses, but they will also play whatever ‘Game of Stupid’ that Liberals can devise, if forced to. Not saying that ExxonMobil is bullet-proof, but they hire only the best. They don’t take political craziness personal, like a normal person with “feelings” would. They know what is really important to a corporation, and they win at what they do. They will win at what you do.

High Chicago, Low Chicago, ExxonMobil will cover either way. ExxonMobil has already figured out the scam game known as Global Warming / Global Climate Change. You are deluding yourself if you think that they haven't. Just saying.

How often does Exxon Mobil exile it's brightest members? Just curious.

Oh, You mean like Al Gore's lies at Dopenhagen, on the Tonight Show, everytime he opens his mouth...those lies.

Or do you mean Obama's lies about not supporting 'fat cat bankers" while his has surrounded himself with Robert Rubin, the guy that got Clinton to relax regulatIons on banks, then was head of Citi using all the tools he just put into place while in government. He wrecked Citi and the economy and now he's back in government to do it again in the Obama administration aided by Larry Summers and all his former cohorts, including Diana Farell who pasionately believes it is good for America to outsource jobs to other countries.

WHY DON'T YOU PULL YOUR HEAD OUT AND READ THE TRUTH.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/31234647/obamas_big_sellout/print

There are four main ways to be connected to Bob Rubin: through Goldman Sachs, the Clinton administration, Citigroup and, finally, the Hamilton Project, a think tank Rubin spearheaded under the auspices of the Brookings Institute to promote his philosophy of balanced budgets, free trade and financial deregulation. The team Obama put in place to run his economic policy after his inauguration was dominated by people who boasted connections to at least one of these four institutions — so much so that the White House now looks like a backstage party for an episode of Bob Rubin, This Is Your Life!

At Treasury, there is Geithner, who worked under Rubin in the Clinton years. Serving as Geithner's "counselor" — a made-up post not subject to Senate confirmation — is Lewis Alexander, the former chief economist of Citigroup, who advised Citi back in 2007 that the upcoming housing crash was nothing to worry about. Two other top Geithner "counselors" — Gene Sperling and Lael Brainard — worked under Rubin at the National Economic Council, the key group that coordinates all economic policymaking for the White House.

As director of the NEC, meanwhile, Obama installed economic czar Larry Summers, who had served as Rubin's protégé at Treasury. Just below Summers is Jason Furman, who worked for Rubin in the Clinton White House and was one of the first directors of Rubin's Hamilton Project. The appointment of Furman — a persistent advocate of free-trade agreements like NAFTA and the author of droolingly pro-globalization reports with titles like "Walmart: A Progressive Success Story" — provided one of the first clues that Obama had only been posturing when he promised crowds of struggling Midwesterners during the campaign that he would renegotiate NAFTA, which facilitated the flight of blue-collar jobs to other countries. "NAFTA's shortcomings were evident when signed, and we must now amend the agreement to fix them," Obama declared. A few months after hiring Furman to help shape its economic policy, however, the White House quietly quashed any talk of renegotiating the trade deal. "The president has said we will look at all of our options, but I think they can be addressed without having to reopen the agreement," U.S. Trade Representative Ronald Kirk told reporters in a little-publicized conference call last April.

The announcement was not so surprising, given who Obama hired to serve alongside Furman at the NEC: management consultant Diana Farrell, who worked under Rubin at Goldman Sachs. In 2003, Farrell was the author of an infamous paper in which she argued that sending American jobs overseas might be "as beneficial to the U.S. as to the destination country, probably more so.

John E,
I love it when the Leftists say “end of story”. Is that supposed to have some kind of special meaning? One thing we can be sure of ~ ExxonMobil would never have a reason to hire you.

Where are the flag burnings be held today? It is a good day to maybe throw off a little heat, with all the Global Warming snow, and what-not.

Liberal JohnEE Postalot has been busy over Christmas, not wrapping gifts but posting gaffes all over the filthy SWAMP. AGW has nothing to do with "toxic waste" nor about being being good stewards of the earth. As always, you are the lemming, you are the shill for Big Gore.

Make sure you exempt "emerging markets" like India and China, little JohnEE exemptalot.
