President Barack Obama's job approval in the Gallup Poll's daily tracking survey today -- 47 percent -- marks a new low for the president's job ratings.
Obama's approval has fallen below 50 percent in recent Gallup tracking, and had reached a low of 48 percentage points before today's newest report, the average of surveys taken over the past three days.
"Any slight bump in support Obama received coincident with his new Afghanistan policy proved to be very short-lived, as his approval rating returned to below the majority level by the weekend, and slipped further to 47 percent in Dec. 4-6 polling,'' Gallup's Jeffrey Jones reports.
"Afghanistan is just one of many high-profile issues with which the president is dealing, Jones notes. "Immediate public reaction to his new Afghanistan policy showed 51 [percemt in favor and 40 perccent opposed, according to a Dec. 2 USA Today/Gallup poll....
"Additionally, in recent days Obama has been ramping up his focus on finding ways to create jobs for out-of-work Americans, and is planning a major speech on Tuesday outlining his ideas for spurring job creation. In late November, Gallup found slight majorities of Americans disapproving of the way Obama was handling job creation and the economy more generally.''
So far in December, Obama has averaged 50 percent job approval in the Gallup tracking, which measured the president's public approval rating at 69 percent days after inauguration.
Gallup reports today: "That is similar to the (first) December averages for Ronald Reagan (49 percent) and Bill Clinton (53 percent), who also took office when the economy was struggling."

Obama is doing as good as can be expected with the bad hand that Bush Jr and Darth Cheny dealt him.
And besides, the GOP has NO ONE who can beat him in 2012.

I find it hilarious the way the Wingnuts on here start drooling with joy everytime they see a poll on Pres Obama that shows what always happens the longer Presidents are in office - their numbers go down.
If the Wingnutters think any of this means "good news for Republicans", then they are sadly mistaken.
Americans still hate Republicans and they hate them worse than they ever have.

Whether President Obama has lost steam or not, he has chosen the right road for America, regardless of the fear and smear tactics of the "loser" Republicans !! They have yanked out every possible smear and there is still a good chance that America will have real healthcare reform, with a public option. All the Republicans can do is scare and smear the most important legislature to come down the pike since, that lie ex-President Bush sent to Congress, the run-up to the War and Occupation of Iraq !! Let's not blow this one, Congress, or even more of you, Republicans, will not be returning to Congress, in the midterms !! Americans of every persuasion demand real healthcare reform, with the public option present, otherwise those who vote against it, may not return to their present Office in the Midterm elections !! You thought you took a beating during the presidential elections, that was nothing, to what you are facing, if you shoot this one down !!

I would love to find something....anything to approve of with his actions. But, I'm still looking and waiting.

The reason that the President's approval rating is falling is he is ignoring the American people.
We are concerned about the deficit, the apparent out-of-control spending by our elected public officials and the failure of these elected officials to respond to the will of the people.
His ratings will continue to go down hill until he starts to find ways to get the economy moving and people employed but not by spending more!

So, compared to other US president's, Obama isn't really that bad?
I wonder where the campaign rhetoric turned into comparisons as the only way to excuse the lack of approval by the average American regarding this administration.
Question: Is 47% the lowest of record during December of all presidential polls?
Get the spin - "Immediate public reaction to his new Afghanistan policy showed 51 [percemt in favor and 40 perccent opposed, according to a Dec. 2 USA Today/Gallup poll...."
However, within 24 hours of that speech to the Nation, even his own Democrat sheeple bagan to question the president and minds began to change quickly. Many an American who had high hopes for this president are shamefully finding out that his rhetoric is long and meaningless while his actions are short and somewhat destructive rather than healing.

Obamba's big talk on his Afghanistan escalation now seems to be rife with lies--he said out sooner--escalate in order to leave in about 18 months--now--a week later-- the Pentagon, Clinton and Gates say not.. so.. fast..... Anyone but Obamba in 2012. He is pushing HCR with no public option....No. No HRC without a public option because 33% of all Americans' money for the forced insurance will go as profit to insurance shareholders and to the CEOs obscene bonuses. Nothing in all that insurance corp profit money to keep me healthy or alive. So, take 33% (profits) of 8-15 thousand dollars for private insurance, for-profit companies the gov't will force us to pay to health insurance companies...that's 2700-5100 dollars we will pay extra per year for health care if there is no public option. And, that is not even the taxes Obamba wants all of us to pay on already given employer-covered health care. HCR as it stands is a total rip off to all and a boon to all private insurance companies. Contributions $$$ to Baucus, and other Dems and Repugs have taken hold--like the cancer it was intended to be. Obama threw away those who helped him be elected, and those who would have helped in 2010 and 2012. He has played both ends against the loser middle. Obamba just 'bipartisanded' himself.

Gee, couldn't be this, could it?
*
The Obama Administration is already $292 billion in the red this year.
This is more than the national deficit for the entire year of 2006 ($248 billion).
Not good.
*
Obama tripled the national deficit his first year in office and he’s off to a record-setting start in fiscal year 2010.
*
Despite the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hurricane Katrina, the Clinton Recession he inherited, and the 9-11 attacks, President Bush brought down the national budget deficit from 412 billion dollars in 2004 to 162 billion dollars in 2007.
Posted by: Bobby Mobbie | December 7, 2009 3:56 PM
I would not read too much into Obama's poll numbers. They are comparable to those of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton in December of their first year in office. Both those Presidents were also dealt with a bad economy when they took office. It will be interesting to see if those numbers hold after the Mid-Term Elections when the Out of Power Party historically gains seats in the congress. If that holds true in the 2010 Congressional Elections and the GOP gains seats in the House and Senate, Obama will be forced to be more Bi-Partisan and Compromise more with the Republicans than he is doing now in order to get his programs approved.

No Patty, the reason Obama's poll numbers are down is because we HAVEN'T passed health care yet.
And it's funny how you Wingnutters are all of a sundden "concerned" about spending seeing as how you locksteped with the Bush Republicans while they DOUBLED our national debt in only eight years recently - a record.
The Repukelicans pretend to care about spending only when they're out of power. The spending that the Dems are doing now is DIRECTLY related to cleaning up the mess that the Bush Republicans left them with.

And by the way, I absolutely LOVE that poll that you right wing rubes are jumping up and down about that shows that more people are Conservative rather than Liberal. Except that you're leaving out one very imporatant part of it - nowadays, people who consider themselves real Conservatives now call themselves: Libertarians, Independents and Democrats......not Repugs.

Hey lets face it, Reagonomics doesn't work... but instead of admitting that he is staying the course, rather than providing change. He is willing to bail out wall street but those of us on main street are suffering. He is turning out to be a big disappointment and if he stays on his current track of appeasing teh Republicans and compromising with the party of No most of us supporters will sit on our hands come the next election. The GOP's problem is that they're all talk and have no one who is credible to run against Obama in 2012.
Palin could continue to play very well with the crazy right wing base and the GOP base is going to be the driving force in picking their next candidate, but Palin has already shown her serious flaws, not the least of them being a lack of any real interest in issues or policy....much like Bush.
She hasn't yet built a loyal team to work with her and reports are that she is quick to anger when she feels she has been slighted.....a lovely brew for palace intrigue, infighting and backstabbing if she tries to put together her own campaign team.
Too many voters are scared of the idea of Palin managing an international crisis. She has no sense of nuance....everything is black and white and military action comes to the fore too quickly.
And with tons of other flaws too many to continue mentioning, I find it really hard to think of any names who are "presidential candidates" for the GOP right now.
Romney....damaged goods and not liked by the wingnutty branch of the GOP. Plus the guy is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
Huckabee....loved by wingnuts for his folksy charm but not a broad national appeal. He gets the same crowd Palin gets but Palin's large crowd of devoted followers makes Huckabee's look like a joke.
Paul.....niche candidate. If Paul actually believed any of his own schitick he'd drop the Republican label and run as a Libertarian - he won't.
Jindal....destroyed himself with that response speech to Obama's State of the Nation
Sanford.....did himself in in Argentina.
Pawlenty......at the point would need a charisma and name recognition transplant to gain any momentum.
Gingrich......Hahaha...snort
Cheney.....myochardial infarction
Kay Bailey Hutchison....may well lose TX governorship battle.
Beck, Dobbs.......if the GOP were to go with either, they would truly have jumped the shark.
The GOP is always looking for a candidate who has Bushlike qualities....malleable, a vessel into which to pour an ideology wrapped in soothing words and phrases and totally devoid of any viable policy or ideology, except for continued emphasis on the military and restoring their own power and influence to sustain a program of more tax cuts for the rich and benefits to big business and big oil.
The GOP has nothing, zero, zip, nada - end of story.

ex-convict, Robert B. Creamer, is a friend of White House. Let a felon have the blue print for future history. The media furor over the White House state dinner crashers ignores the convicted felon who was invited to attend with the approval of Obama's inner circle. The ex-convict, Robert B. Creamer, is a friend of White House adviser David Axelrod and the husband of Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois. A major Democratic Party political strategist, he is the author of a 628-page book that describes how the Democrats can become the permanent majority party by passing a national health care bill and giving amnesty to illegal immigrants.
Here is the REAL leader for the Democrats plan: The ex-convict, Robert B. Creamer, is a friend of White House adviser David Axelrod and the husband of Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois.
Creamer went to prison for ripping off non-profit entities. As we can already see, however, there is an overlap into the health care debate. And again, the "faith community" is playing a major role. In fact, the Catholic Bishops are not only vigorously lobbying for giving illegal immigrants access to a national health care plan but favor amnesty for them. In his recent testimony before the Senate, Cardinal McCarrick called it "legalization for the undocumented."

Ask a Republican how to deal with a recession, and you would be safe in betting your life against a steak dinner they will not ask for specifics before laying out their prescription: Cut upper-income and corporate taxes and reduce public spending. They will not ask or state what current rates are, what they are relative to other rates, nor what they should be, because that information - the facts of the situation - has no bearing on their thinking. What counts is the act of cutting, which they regard as an expression of a moral principle.
Ask them how to deal with sluggish growth, or even how to encourage an already-booming economy, and their response will be no different: Cut upper-income and corporate taxes, and cut public spending. Iterate the question through as many different permutations as you please, the result will be the same - their "solution" is fixed in stone. To a rational person it becomes rapidly apparent that the GOP isn't playing with a full deck, but the problem goes much deeper than Republicans being Beavis-like creatures with a single response to everything: They do not even agree with the literal definitions of the nouns in the question, like "economy," nor do they even agree with the unstated assumption that the purpose of economics is to increase general prosperity.
This fact is easily illustrated by asking a simple question: What should be done if these tax rates and social spending are already zero? While some will equivocate, eventually you will get their honest response to that set of circumstances: Under those conditions, there is no problem to be solved.
This is why no one wants to call themselves a "Republican" anymore and why their blather means nothing.

Eight years of Republican leadership has left America choking on a $12 trillion national debt, a $787 billion taxpayer bailout, 10.2% unemployment and two wars whose purposes and astronomical costs are still unclear, with no end in sight. Middle America wants jobs, fiscal responsibility, affordable healthcare and quality public education for its children, none of which were delivered under a Republican administration and Republican Congress. Republicans had eight years to produce for America and they failed, breaking the spirit of Middle America along the way.
Republicans can go pound sand.

Here's the thing Republican whiners: You don’t get to call the shots. You don’t get to suddenly decry spending – when it is going to infrastructure, energy policies and the middle class. You don’t get to perpetuate the approval of torture. You don’t get to bury evidence, to allow subpoenas to be ignored, or to dictate who gets tax cuts. And you don’t get to tell the Attorney General how to run the Justice Department, the Secretary of State how to run the State Department and most certainly the President how to set this country’s policy. Not after the ass kicking you took in 2006 and even more so back in November.
You had control of every single branch of Government – and a good amount on the state level as well. And you were able to do exactly what you wanted. And if the country finally realized that the crap that you peddled was worthless, useless, a distraction and sent this country to the brink of disaster, then that isn’t Pelosi’s fault or Frank’s fault or Clinton’s fault (either of them) or even Jimmy Carter’s fault.
You had your chance, and blew it. Big time. And because of it, you got smacked down. Hard. End of story.
So stop whining. Stop lying. Stop with the strawmen and the ad hominem attacks. That era is tired, and frankly is inching closer and closer to being over. Obama knows it. More and more Americans know it. And more are realizing it every passing day as they see what a responsible, engaged and smart administration can do – and the reaction that they are getting around the country and world.
Wake up and realize it, or continue to make an even bigger mockery of yourselves than you already are. Which, frankly, is fine by me, since that will marginalize you even further as this country slowly gets back on its feet.

Modern Liberalism. It will take you places that a rational mind can never fathom. Two things that they can do exceptionally well:
1. Link
2. Name Calling
Some of the name calling is even mildly creative. We have to acknowledge that.

Note to Republican whiners and "very serious" concern trolls who are just now taking issue with spending, the economy, detainees that we haven’t been able to get enough evidence in seven years to charge with a crime or whatever other whiny crap that was in large part caused by the very same Republican policies that you cheered for, pushed for or voted for:
Your way failed. Big time. Like "F-" failed. Of epic proportions. The tax cuts failed. The neverending sinkhole of money for Iraq failed. Torture failed. Indefinite detention of "enemy combatants" failed – even shot down by a Supreme Court where 7 of the 9 Justices were republican appointees. Big money handouts to the oil companies failed. Big money handouts to the financial institutions failed. Deregulation failed. Ignoring the infrastructure failed (bridge in Minnesota or Hurricane Katrina, anyone).
And because of it, you lost. Badly. Twice in a row.
I think the term is "elections have consequence". You remember that phrase, right?

First of all, before you go blaming anyone for the current economic crisis -- you better start with Bill Clinton -- he was the Bozo that signed NAFTA. That is the real cause of our economic woes. Yes Bush was an idiot -- everyone knows Bush 41 had three terms in office but to blame Bush 43 is just plain ignorance and crimminal. Clinton by signing NAFTA doomed our country. At least when he committed treason on December 31 2000 (by signing the ICC) the Congress was in the right hands and failed to ratify the ICC.
A start on the road o eecovery is not going to happen until after the crash coming next year when Boeing leaves the United States for Mexico...you think the job hunt is bad now wait until all those workers lose their jobs which they will in 2010.
Thanks to Clinton -- unemployment is at an all time high... and thanks for retaliating for the USS Cole -- wait a minute you did not -- thanks for 9/11 as well.

HEY REPUBLICANS ...YOU DID THIS TO OUR ECONOMY/COUNTRY... REMEMBER?
-
http://dfafie.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/house-on-fire.jpg
There are different theories on parenting. Especially when it comes to little children throwing tantrums. Especially when it comes to little children throwing tantrums....in the middle of a burning house.
That they lit on fire.
And then threw gasoline on.
-
http://dfafie.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/house-on-fire.jpg
And now are standing over the blaze with more buckets of (drill baby drill) gasoline.
A quiet little reminder for our wingnutty hacks from the right wing lunatic fringe....
YOU LIT THIS FIRE!
And here is a hint, REAL PEOPLE are suffering....because of you.
Throwing more tax cuts for the rich fuel on it wont put it out. Cutting funds for contraception won't put it out. And stamping your widdle feets and obstructing every move that the people who DIDN'T light the fire are making to put YOUR fire out...won't put it out.
There are two cliches at war here, guess which one will win out in the end:
Give a mouse a cookie, and he will just want a glass of milk.
vs.
Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.
NO ONE, but you, has forgotten how we got to this point...in two wars, our standing in the world damaged nearly beyond repair and standing in the flaming soon to be ruins of what used to be our economy. No one has forgotten that it was you who brought us to this point. Or that you have gotten us to this point while laughing at, mocking, denigrating and calling people traitors....the same people who now have to clean up the steaming pile of elephant poop that YOU deposited in the middle of the living room...of our burning house.
The time when you could blame all of your mistakes on the Dems and have the public and the pundits buy it is over. No one is buying it. Ok, I'm wrong, the stupidest factions of the Village and the punditocracy are still buying it....because they helped you light the fire.
But know this....Obama IS just giving you enough rope to hang yourself. And, thank you, you are gleefully jumping up on the horse and fitting the noose over your own head. You make demand after demand, and each demand is grudgingly granted, as a nice, kind liberal guiltified parent gives into a child's tantrum, over and over again.....until that parent finally realizes that that just doesn't work. And is FORCED to try something else, something less.....nice.
Soon it will be apparent to all sane people that being nice to you just doesn't work, that every time we give in to you, your unquenchable three year old egos just take that as a signal of weakness and demand more. With every petulant demand, with every hold you put on a nominee, with every little nit you pick, with every foot stomp, with every BLATANT obstructionist tactic you use to keep us from cleaning up YOUR mess and putting out YOUR fire...you reveal yourself as the petulant, vengeful, idiotic spoiled little children you are. Obama is giving you everything you want....and yet all you want is...more. Do you really think that the misplaced kindness and tolerance that is being extended to you will last, even as you continue to roll around on the floor of our burning house and try to scream at the top of your tiny lungs and hold your breath til you turn blue at the same time....as is typical of your hypocrisy and failed drama-queenish stupidity?
You failed. Your ideology failed. Your economic theories failed, your foreign policy failed, your theocratic social policies failed and your theories of governing failed. Everyone knows this....except...apparently....you.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again...as you have with your trickle down bullshit...and expecting different results. Everything you are screaming for is EXACTLY what got us in to this mess. The fact that you think that doing MORE of the same will fix the mess YOU made just proves your true character and intelligence. You are exposing yourself, again, as insane ideologues living in a delusional land where things that have never, ever worked....suddenly start to work, because you held your breath long enough. You are proving to the entire nation and the world that you are insane. Insane little children, throwing a tantrum in the middle of a house on fire....a fire that, I remind you once again...YOU started.
And so in conclusion I wish to say....thank you. Thank you from Democratss everywhere. We have been fighting your class warrior, hate based, petulant, childish, ineffective and incompetent policies and memes for decades now, trying to destroy your policies and assorted crap so that our country and world can move into the 21st century as a prosperous people who value equality freedom and justice. Now, finally, you are succeeding in destroying yourself in a such thoroughly transparent and complete way that there is only one thing that we can do to help you....expose the crimes and corruption that you inevitably commit every time you gain power.

Have you noticed an obvious trend among the leftist posters? They go from name-calling to personal attacks when reality is pointed out to them.
They have no substantive arguments to back up their looney reasoning, so they attack and make personal slams against the rational people who are simply pointing out reality.

I want all of the people that voted for Obama to list what hope and change you have received so far? Obama's promises can only go so far. Obama will go down in American history as the worst president our country has ever seen. He offered no hope and only bad change. You put a guy, a community organizer in charge of our great country. George Soros, and David Axelrod own him and plan every word that comes out of his mouth via the TelePrompTer. Rev. Wright moved him up into the Chicago political Hyde Park scene, along with his book buddy Terrorist Bill Ayers "who bombed the pentagon and said after 911 he wanted to do more harm." Obama hangs with questionable people. Obama is as far from what our founding fathers wanted for this great country, he is not a true leader. He is leading us down the wrong path. Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves at the thought of these Ivy league lawyers running things in DC. Did Obama ever have a real job, real friends, a girlfriend? Who is he and what is his past? Look up his bio on the white house.gov and compare other presidents bio to his. Obama's bio, has nothing to speak of which says leader and deserving of being president in his resume. Did anyone ever say no to Obama in his life, growing up. Did he work for anything legit, ever? Was he always the schmoozer? The ratings for Obama are dropping folks because there are 15 million people out of work, 17.7% out of work for 6 months and people just giving up! Small businesses are suffering. Obama has put our debt into the trillions in less than a year! No One president has spent our money faster than him. China owns us. Our children and grandkids will never make any money because they will owe too much for this Obama debt. He now wants to spend more. Our troops have a president who does not care about their backs and will continue this war, even when he lied to you and said he would end it. Doctors do not want the public option. Only 15% of doctors belong to the liberal AMA and it does NOT represent the majority of Doctors. If the democrats pass this health care reform bill say goodbye to your healthcare and wait in line like the Canadians. The elderly will not have it good under obamacare. We need TORT reform. We need statesmen not politicians in Washington DC. We need to take our country back by voting good honest men and women into office. Obama has no character. He loves himself and is a narcissist. God help America and God Bless America. I can't wait until 2010 and 2012 elections! That will be real change.

Could Obama The Destroyer be any worse?
At a time when MILLIONS are out of work, these liberals are working to take over the healthcare industry - 1/7th of the economy.
No matter what, it's going to keep some businesses in turmoil for years as we try to figure out the effects of the takeover - which means that millions will stay unemployed and the deficits go through the roof.
What a mess. 2012 can't come soon enough to get rid of these Liberals/Democrats.

A grand example of the kind of discourse that Mark Silva loves and endorses:
Johnny DiaperBoy,
So the eight years of warmongering, torturing, outting CIA agents, letting Wall Street run like a casino and giving tax cuts to billionaires under the Bush Republicans is what you call good governance?
You Wingnut goons and your petulant child act about waking up on Jan 20, 2009 and finding yourself deep in the minority and rejected by the American voters, are hilarious.
Posted by: HHH | December 7, 2009 7:08 PM
Course, HHH is another name for Janet, John E., etc., etc. Perhaps Janet, John E., etc. are actually Silva??? Mmmm, could be?
Anyway, let's set the record straight with FACTS, another enemy of Mark Silva's.
1. Outing CIA agents. Wasn't Cheney, nor was it Scooter Libby. But it was Richard Armitage, a career bureaucratic appeaser.
2. Letting Wall Street run like a casino. Sorry, Republicans did not do that. Now, we do have Bill and Hillary's hands all over the bust of Global Crossing and their bud Gary Winnick, who walked away with millions as the company folded.
http://www.forbes.com/2002/03/13/0313topnews.html
We also have the dot.com bust in March 2000 as the NASDAQ went from over 5,000 to 3,000.
Then we have Chris Dudd, Son of Chuckie Schumer and other Democraps' hands all over AIG, Lehmann Brothers, Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street problems.
3. Tax cuts for billionaires. This, perhaps, is the biggest lie the complete, blithering, lying morons on the Left continue to spew. Under Bush, EVERYONE got a tax cut through lower payroll taxes, higher child deducations and removal of the marriage penalty tax. Estate taxes also went down and everyone also got stimulus checks.
http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=6621
Here are two key elements from the website:
•A reduction of individual income tax rates from 15, 28, 31, 36, and 39.6 percent to 10, 15, 25, 28, 33, and 35 percent;
•An increase in the child tax credit from $500 to $1,000;
As you can see, ALL tax rates went down and the child tax credit was doubled, which helps ALL Americans, especially the poor.
As usual,
John D scores big with the FACTS while Mark Silva and his sad, little brigade are wrong, wrong, wrong.

Course, the corrupt media largely ignored that story. So while the Barbie girl was never in any danger, nor was she a covert CIA agent, this sham of a White House decides to out a CIA operative who actually is out in the field!

President Obama has inherited a term of office in which monumental issues face this nation. Tough decisions need to be made, and he is making them. Only time will tell if these decisions are worthy of praise or scorn. Too many folks, however, are making snap judgments along strictly partisan lines before results of these tough calls can be fairly evaluated. For too many years, our leadership has failed to take a stand on the hard issues of health care and regulation of financial markets, and both of these issues have brought this nation to the brink of financial collapse. Mr. Obama is finally taking a stand on these issues by dealing with them headon. The entrenched politics of Washington and the media of both extremes are not making this process any easier. It is time for our leadership to stop being Liberals or Conservatives, and begin to engage in truly positive dialog to solve these problems in the best interests of AMERICANs.

It is a very difficult job. But, just imagine if you could make a difference in people's life?Look at George Washington? The Republic was young and nobody knew if it would survive. Look at Lincoln? The Union was in peril. Look at Roosevelt? Defeating the Nazi's and Imperial Empire. Looking back, we all can thank them for the great leadership they provided. It may not be right decisions at that time, but history has proven otherwise.
