Another national poll measuring a loss of majority support for the job that President Barack Obama is performing suggests that the president is "coming up short'' in his promise of unifying the nation.
The president's public job-approval stands at 46 percent in the Marist College Poll released today, with 44 percent voicing disapproval of the job he is doing. That is down from 53 percent approval when Marist last polled in October.
"Partisanship is alive and well here,'' Marist reports - with 77 percent of Democrats still voicing support, down from 84 percent in October, and just 21 percent of Republicans surveyed voicing approval. Among those independent voters who tend to settle contests such as this: 44 percent disapprove, 41 percent approve.
" "As 2009 comes to a close, President Obama's goal of unifying the nation and reducing the partisan divide is coming up short," says Dr. Lee Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Poll.
The Gallup Poll also has gauged a new low for Obama in its daily tracking surveys this week: 47 percent job approval, down from 69 percent in the days after inauguration.
Asked if Obama has met their expectations, just 44 percent of those surveyed by Marist said he has, while 42 percent said the president has fallen short. Only 9 percent said Obama has exceeded their expectations.
While 58 percent of the Democrats surveyed say Obama has met their expectations, 20 percent say he has met the mark - though 17 percent say the president has gone above and beyond in this measure.
Opinion about the president's job performance has a lot to do with the way things are going - with 46 percent saying the nation is headed in the right path, 46 percent in the wrong direction.
While his job approval has slipped, a majority of those surveyed still have a positive view of the president - 55 percent voicing a favorable opinion of Obama. But there again, the partisan divide is wide: 85 percent of Democrats holding a favorable opinion, and 75 percent of Republicans holding an unfavorable opinion. About half of the independent voters surveyed - 49 percent - still hold a favorable opinion of him.
The survey of 1034 adults was conducted on December 2, 3 and 7 and carries a possible margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. For the 858 registered voters surveyed, the margin of error is 3.5 percent.

HEY REPUBLICANS ...YOU DID THIS TO OUR ECONOMY/COUNTRY... REMEMBER?
-
http://dfafie.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/house-on-fire.jpg
There are different theories on parenting. Especially when it comes to little children throwing tantrums. Especially when it comes to little children throwing tantrums....in the middle of a burning house.
That they lit on fire.
And then threw gasoline on.
-
http://dfafie.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/house-on-fire.jpg
And now are standing over the blaze with more buckets of (drill baby drill) gasoline.
A quiet little reminder for our wingnutty hacks from the right wing lunatic fringe....
YOU LIT THIS FIRE!
And here is a hint, REAL PEOPLE are suffering....because of you.
Throwing more tax cuts for the rich fuel on it wont put it out. Cutting funds for contraception won't put it out. And stamping your widdle feets and obstructing every move that the people who DIDN'T light the fire are making to put YOUR fire out...won't put it out.
There are two cliches at war here, guess which one will win out in the end:
Give a mouse a cookie, and he will just want a glass of milk.
vs.
Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.
NO ONE, but you, has forgotten how we got to this point...in two wars, our standing in the world damaged nearly beyond repair and standing in the flaming soon to be ruins of what used to be our economy. No one has forgotten that it was you who brought us to this point. Or that you have gotten us to this point while laughing at, mocking, denigrating and calling people traitors....the same people who now have to clean up the steaming pile of elephant poop that YOU deposited in the middle of the living room...of our burning house.
The time when you could blame all of your mistakes on the Dems and have the public and the pundits buy it is over. No one is buying it. Ok, I'm wrong, the stupidest factions of the Village and the punditocracy are still buying it....because they helped you light the fire.
But know this....Obama IS just giving you enough rope to hang yourself. And, thank you, you are gleefully jumping up on the horse and fitting the noose over your own head. You make demand after demand, and each demand is grudgingly granted, as a nice, kind liberal guiltified parent gives into a child's tantrum, over and over again.....until that parent finally realizes that that just doesn't work. And is FORCED to try something else, something less.....nice.
Soon it will be apparent to all sane people that being nice to you just doesn't work, that every time we give in to you, your unquenchable three year old egos just take that as a signal of weakness and demand more. With every petulant demand, with every hold you put on a nominee, with every little nit you pick, with every foot stomp, with every BLATANT obstructionist tactic you use to keep us from cleaning up YOUR mess and putting out YOUR fire...you reveal yourself as the petulant, vengeful, idiotic spoiled little children you are. Obama is giving you everything you want....and yet all you want is...more. Do you really think that the misplaced kindness and tolerance that is being extended to you will last, even as you continue to roll around on the floor of our burning house and try to scream at the top of your tiny lungs and hold your breath til you turn blue at the same time....as is typical of your hypocrisy and failed drama-queenish stupidity?
You failed. Your ideology failed. Your economic theories failed, your foreign policy failed, your theocratic social policies failed and your theories of governing failed. Everyone knows this....except...apparently....you.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again...as you have with your trickle down bullshit...and expecting different results. Everything you are screaming for is EXACTLY what got us in to this mess. The fact that you think that doing MORE of the same will fix the mess YOU made just proves your true character and intelligence. You are exposing yourself, again, as insane ideologues living in a delusional land where things that have never, ever worked....suddenly start to work, because you held your breath long enough. You are proving to the entire nation and the world that you are insane. Insane little children, throwing a tantrum in the middle of a house on fire....a fire that, I remind you once again...YOU started.
And so in conclusion I wish to say....thank you. Thank you from Democratss everywhere. We have been fighting your class warrior, hate based, petulant, childish, ineffective and incompetent policies and memes for decades now, trying to destroy your policies and assorted crap so that our country and world can move into the 21st century as a prosperous people who value equality freedom and justice. Now, finally, you are succeeding in destroying yourself in a such thoroughly transparent and complete way that there is only one thing that we can do to help you....expose the crimes and corruption that you inevitably commit every time you gain power.

Eight years of Republican leadership has left America choking on a $12 trillion national debt, a $787 billion taxpayer bailout, 10.2% unemployment and two wars whose purposes and astronomical costs are still unclear, with no end in sight. Middle America wants jobs, fiscal responsibility, affordable healthcare and quality public education for its children, none of which were delivered under a Republican administration and Republican Congress. Republicans had eight years to produce for America and they failed, breaking the spirit of Middle America along the way.
Republicans can go pound sand.

You mean the economy isn't booming again yet because - in ten months Obama still hasn't totally reversed the eight years worth of Republicans letting Wall Street run like a casino, starting an unnecessary war and tax cuts for billionaires - thus causing our economy to tank in the first place? I'm Shocked!......not.
Posted by: B Mobbie | December 8, 2009 1:52 PM
At the same time, the war approval gets a 9% bump after Obama's address on the subject. http://thepage.time.com/obama-gets-afghan-war-approval/
People are just upset at the state of the economy, and the polls are no real indication of anything- it's chaos right now.

Note to Republican whiners and "very serious" concern trolls who are just now taking issue with spending, the economy, detainees that we haven’t been able to get enough evidence in seven years to charge with a crime or whatever other whiny crap that was in large part caused by the very same Republican policies that you cheered for, pushed for or voted for:
Your way failed. Big time. Like "F-" failed. Of epic proportions. The tax cuts failed. The neverending sinkhole of money for Iraq failed. Torture failed. Indefinite detention of "enemy combatants" failed – even shot down by a Supreme Court where 7 of the 9 Justices were republican appointees. Big money handouts to the oil companies failed. Big money handouts to the financial institutions failed. Deregulation failed. Ignoring the infrastructure failed (bridge in Minnesota or Hurricane Katrina, anyone).
And because of it, you lost. Badly. Twice in a row.
I think the term is "elections have consequence". You remember that phrase, right?

For those who think the Republicon moderate "cleansing" is a good thing, I say fine. Go ahead and knock your socks off - it's only going to guarantee continued Democratic and Independent leadership....and thank god for that.
In other words "Hasta La Bye-Bye" Republicon party !!!
This should be a clear message to the Democratic majority party
in Washington: healthcare reform with a strong public option, campaign and election reform targeting lobbyists for big business and most importantly!
The Party of No is already finished.

Here's the thing Republican whiners: You don’t get to call the shots. You don’t get to suddenly decry spending – when it is going to infrastructure, energy policies and the middle class. You don’t get to perpetuate the approval of torture. You don’t get to bury evidence, to allow subpoenas to be ignored, or to dictate who gets tax cuts. And you don’t get to tell the Attorney General how to run the Justice Department, the Secretary of State how to run the State Department and most certainly the President how to set this country’s policy. Not after the ass kicking you took in 2006 and even more so back in November.
You had control of every single branch of Government – and a good amount on the state level as well. And you were able to do exactly what you wanted. And if the country finally realized that the crap that you peddled was worthless, useless, a distraction and sent this country to the brink of disaster, then that isn’t Pelosi’s fault or Frank’s fault or Clinton’s fault (either of them) or even Jimmy Carter’s fault.
You had your chance, and blew it. Big time. And because of it, you got smacked down. Hard. End of story.
So stop whining. Stop lying. Stop with the strawmen and the ad hominem attacks. That era is tired, and frankly is inching closer and closer to being over. Obama knows it. More and more Americans know it. And more are realizing it every passing day as they see what a responsible, engaged and smart administration can do – and the reaction that they are getting around the country and world.
Wake up and realize it, or continue to make an even bigger mockery of yourselves than you already are. Which, frankly, is fine by me, since that will marginalize you even further as this country slowly gets back on its feet.

For the last two decades, the Republicans have steadily purged themselves of all moderates, of anyone who did not toe the party line, of anyone who did not support the party leaders with every fiber of their being. Under leaders like Tom DeLay and a dozen other of the top far-right powerbrokers, apostasy was ruthlessly punished. Moderates were primaried out, the religiously or socially tolerant were excoriated, the legislatively balanced were forced from their positions -- all in service to a supposed permanent ideological governance, one that valued ideological purity over all else. Over knowledge, over experience, over common sense, over the very fabric of the law -- the ideology of hard-right conservatism trumped it all. Toe the line, and you were granted jobs in the administration, or positions of leadership in Iraq, or plum committee assignments. Voice disapproval -- you were nothing. You woke up the next morning to a White House Press Secretary declaring that you were a disgruntled brat, one with emotional or mental impairments that were responsible for your pitiable desertion.
After twenty years of purging, all the Republicans have left is that hard-right extreme. They shoved everyone else out willingly: it seems hardly surprising that now, faced with the fruits of it all, they are finding that all constituencies of the nation that they sought to condemn, belittle or purge are no longer interested in supporting them now.
I have no particular interest in them learning this lesson, of course. As far as I am concerned the last thirty years have proven modern conservatism to be not just ill conceived, but paranoid, divisive, willfully incompetent, obtusely premised, and in sum utterly valueless to the nation -- a waste of political oxygen. Something to be burned at the stake, and the ashes scattered, never to be heard from again.
But I expect they will, in the next years, at least try to retool their party into one that at least pretends to be more tolerant of, well, anyone not fully immersed in the notion that Ayn Rand and James Dobson rule the universe. The coming bloodshed between the two factions -- conservative true believers who can look at the last eight years and see absolutely nothing worth doing differently, nothing but a smashing but sadly misunderstood success, versus those that truly wish to temper the party in an effort to regain at least some semblance of their former power -- will, no doubt, be a glorious thing to behold.

I, too, am disappointed in BHO's and the Cong. Dems performance. They have been to lax in pushing sweeping health care reform, aggressive re-regulation of the financial sector, no reinstatement of Glass/Steagall,
no reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, not to mention the Loaded Guns in the Parks Bill.
I am disappointed, but from the left.
Of course, disapproval of BHO's performance does not necessarily mean a vote for any Republican candie. They, by their very nature, are against all the points I complain about in this posting.

So let me get this straight.
Republicans caused most of the problems we have now according to all posts above here.. But what is the Democratic solution?
Create gigantic entitlements that increase the deficit at a record pace & weaken the dollar to the point where China will own us? Seems like a misguided response to poor past Republican leadership, doesn't it?
That's probably why the polls are what they are! Independents are not going to put up with all the Nancy Pelosi - Harry Reid spend-a-thon garbage! That's what the polls are saying.. And that's happening on who's watch again? Right! Thus your current approval rating. Take in Obama lovers, it is what it is!
STOP THE DC SPENDING, BRING OUR DOLLAR BACK!

Did ANYONE who isn't a Leftist or a journalist (to the extent the two categories are different) expect a 100% Liberal Democrat to unite anything?
Did anyone truly expect big Government economic policies, which have failed everywhere they've been tried, to succeed in creating jobs?
All Obama has done is unite Leftists and journalist--in praise of Him.

I see that Corporate Media will find and fund any poll that tries to discredit President Obama !! Oh, if they were only, so inclined when The Draft-Dodgers were up for re-election, four years ago. Where were they then, when we really needed them ? When our nation was being ripped off by the Weasels of Wall Street, or the Bandits in the Boardrooms ? Where were your stories, covering the unconscionable gouging going on against the consumers of America ?
Truth be told, you were probably right there, gouging, just like the other Corporations. That is why there are no stories about Corporate Greed, Wall Street crimes or Boardroom malfeasance !! President Obama is shaking-up the culture of greed, aka Capitalism, and the greedy are getting worried. They're worried that their goose may be cooked, that goose that has been laying those golden eggs for all of the greedy Corporations, while sticking it to the American workers. You know, the workers that are unemployed or underpaid, due to the incompetence and malfeasance of the Bush&Cheney regime and their cronies, the greedy Corporations !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

He hasn't accomplished much of anything thats positive since taking
office. let alone unifying the country. Of course I would not put all the blame on Nobama because of the likes of Durbin, Pelosi, Waters, Reid, Jordan and so many others, you would need a miracle to unite this country. And from what I see on the Republican side it isn't much better. I say clean up the entire Congress.
