While President Barack Obama's approval rating has slipped to 49 percent in another poll released today, most Americans surveyed still say that Obama has "a new approach'' to politics in Washington.
That's a slim majority, however, according to the results of a Pew Research Center poll: While 53 percent of those surveyed say the president who campaigned with promises of "change'' has a new approach to politics, the percentage of those saying the president's approach is "business as usual'' near the end of his first year in office has grown from 30 percent in September to 37 percent in the newest poll.
"This shift in opinion has been driven in large part by Republicans and independents,'' the Pew Center reports.
"In September, by nearly two-to-one, more independents said Obama's approach to politics was new (62 percent) than said it was business as usual (34 percent). In the current survey, 48 percent of independents view Obama's as approach new compared with 42 percent who say it is business as usual. And among Republicans, the percentage saying Obama has a new approach to politics has declined from 50 percent in September to 39 percent today.''
That loss of confidence among independent voters also registered in a new Battleground Poll released today, which points to political implications for the president's party in the midterm 2010 congressional elections.
While the president's overall approval rating in the nonpartisan Pew poll is 49 percent - the same approval measured in the bipartisan Battleground Poll - Pew has found that the percentage of people expressing "at least a fair amount of confidence in Obama to do the right thing'' in fixing the economy has slipped from 59 percent in October to 52 now.
" Smaller percentages express confidence in Obama on health care reform (44 percent) and reducing the budget deficit (41 percent,"' Pew notes.
The survey of 1,504 adults by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press was conducted Dec. 9-13. For more, see the full Pew report on Obama at year's end.

There are two things that could relate to the president's positive approval ratings: living in a cave or living in a cave drinking the Obama kool-aid.
As each week passes, the entire planet is getting more and more disappointed with his pandering, false promises, narcissistic speeches and listening to Don Fitzgeralds incoherent rants.

Republicans have shed a fifth of their membership just since Pres Obama took office in Jan.
And yet they're still dragging their knuckles and pounding their chests about how they're going to kick the Dems butts in 2010 and how Obama is going to be a one termer etc.....hahaha!
The louder the Repugs yell, the smaller they get.

Only 20% Identify As Republicans
Only 20 percent of adults identify themselves as Republicans, little changed in recent months, but still the lowest single number in Post-ABC polls since 1983. Political independents continue to make up the largest group, at 42 percent of respondents; 33 percent call themselves Democrats.

The corporate media talking points buying into Republican bravado about gaining seats next year are even more brain-dead than usual, since the indications are all going in the opposite direction. Even if the economy turns south again, where are voters going to turn? Republicans have so discredited themselves that they are very nearly disqualified as as alternative.
CNN Poll: GOP favorable rating lowest in a decade
From CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser
WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Republican Party's favorable rating among Americans is at lowest level in at least a decade, according to a new national poll.
Thirty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, with 54 percent viewing the GOP negatively.

Carrot Top,
First of all, Obama's poll numbers are fine, but even if they weren't, the Repugs don't have anyone credible to run against him anyway. And secondly, thanks for letting us know you live in a cave. I've always suspected you right wing mouth-breathers were cave dwellers, now I know for sure.

No, you want to see business as usual, particularly if you tune into our Senate hearings, on CNN, right now. We have that great savior of our tax dollar, Senator Colburn,( R-L, OK ) demanding that the entire amendment of Senator Sanders' amendment, which calls for a single payer plan, through the present Medicare program, to be read. That is 336 pages, that should take the entire day of Senate business. That is what Senator Colburn might hope passes as cleverness, or being cute. In any case, he continues to waste taxpayer's dollars. The reading is normally dispensed with and those interested, can read it, at their leisure. Instead, we have the entire Senate shut down, for this meaningless exercise in petulance, at the taxpayer's expense. Way to go, Senator Colburn, your duplicity is only out-distanced by your meaninglessness !! I am sure you will continue to show your innovativeness when it comes to wasting our tax dollars. You are a discredit to your state and to our nation. Your fascism is showing, once again !!

Obama flip flops like a top. He said a lot of things in his campaign that never took place. He's all "smoke and mirrors". His speech on sending the troops as asked by the general put the cadets to sleep, but he had to try to please his liberal left by saying 18 mos. and it will end and had to send SOME troops or he would have a riot on his hands. Promising everything and delivering nothing. Trying to rush the health bill through, never mind if we have to pay people off to get it passed, hopefully we want have to pay any more 300 million pay offs like we did with Mary Landrieu from Louisiana! The tax payers can't take it. Now he has made a deal with Pharma that if they would promise to spend at leat 150-200 million to help PUSH health care through he may forget his campaign promise of the American people that they can purchase prescription drugs from other countries. On the news yesterday. He has spent more money than any other President in the history of the US.

Yet another blow to Obama, from the Gallup Poll:
"Americans remain opposed to closing the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba and moving some of the terrorist suspects being held there to U.S. prisons: 30% favor such actions, while 64% do not."
And a Dec. 10th Pew Poll also helps explains why 49% approve Obama. Twice as many Liberals/Democrats as Conservatives/Republicans say they've seen ghosts, consult fortune tellers, and believe in astrology. See http://pewresearch.org/pubs/1434/multiple-religious-practices-reincarnation-astrology-psychic?src=prc-latest&proj=peoplepress for the details.

Don Fitzgerald has incoherent rants?!?!?!?!?!? I thought they were just useless meanderings from a typical clueless Loony Lefty!
Anyway, speaking of clueless, Obimbo is and always has been just another dirty, corrupt Chicago Democratic politician who practices the worst kind of partisan politics.
Obimbo was a do-nothing useless state senator. He was a do-nothing useless U.S. senator. And, as president he is just plain embarrassing, ridiculous and dangerous. And that is among the many reasons most Americans want him out NOW!
Posted by: John D, still right, as usual | December 16, 2009 3:57 PM
Springfield,
Don is in the cave with the "health insurance clerk assassins."
Obummer is just a typical politician that will lie and tell you what he needs to in order to get your vote. If the press hadn't been in the hot tub with him, people would have known him for who he is. Now we have to find out the hard way, and democrats will pay in the next election.

HOPE AND CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!!!! IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE WHAT WE DO, YOU ARE IRRATIONAL, EXCEPT FOR THE 32 % THAT DO AGREE WITH US.
*
Robert Gibbs Knocks the American Public as Irrational
Gibbs, at the press briefing today: "I don't think any rational person would say killing a bill is better at this point."
Today's NBC/WSJ poll:
Just 32 percent say it's a good idea, versus 47 percent who say it's a bad idea.
In addition, for the first time in the survey, a plurality prefers the status quo to reform. By a 44-41 percent margin, respondents say it would be better to keep the current system than to pass Obama's health plan.
By comparison, in September's and October's NBC/Journal polls, the American public preferred changing the system to the status quo, 45 to 39 percent.
We're all anti-statist, wacky tea-partiers now, thanks to the White House's 10-month push against the status quo. Impressive work by a crack communications team.

Always Wrong,
"Distractions and emotionally charged words such as

Anyway, to your dull point - "corpo-fascists dig their talons in even further into each and every one of us." You can always choose which corpo-fascist digs its talons into you. However, there is only one gov't that can sink its claws into you. I will tell you, the gov't is the one that sinks its claws into me more than any corpo-facist.
