The White House maintains that President Barack Obama will carry on his agenda, regardless of the outcome of today's special election in Massachusetts, where his party's grip on the Senate is at stake.
The White House also suggests that tomorrow's anniversary in office is an arbitrary yardstick by which to measure what Obama has accomplished so far.
"it's a calendar date that denotes you've been here a year,'' Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said today of the anniversary of Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20. "But the president didn't denote that he'd do thse things his first year'' or the seocnd year, or the next.
"Change takes a long time,'' Gibbs said. "Change has to go through Congress.''
And Congress could be a different place this year, should Republican Scott Brown win the Senate seat of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy today.
Yet, for all the White House's refusal to speculate on the impact of that election and what life without 60 Democratic-bloc votes in the Senate might be like, Gibbs maintained today that the tenor of Obama's first State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress next week will not be affected by the outcome of that election today.
"I don't think that's true, no,'' he said to our question today. "We've been working on a serious of proposals... Regardless of what happens in Massachusetts, the president is going to talk about jobs..... Afghanistan... terrorism....
" I think the president understands that, regardless of what happens in Massachusetts, we face a set of circumstances that have to be dealt with... Whether there are 59 seats or 60, we still have to work hard to get our economy back...
" I don't believe there is an entirely new agenda behind some door, based on the results tonight.''

If the people of Massachusetts ignore history by electing Scott Brown to the Senate, I anticipate a serious case of buyer’s remorse setting in shortly thereafter. It won’t take long for citizens of that notoriously blue state to realize that they’re stuck with an obstructionist, GOP hack eager to repeat the tragic follies of the Bush-era.

Did he not promise to close Gitmo in his first year? I believe it was pretty specific, too!

From Fibbs "But the president didn't denote that he'd do thse things his first year'' or the seocnd year, or the next." Really - I guess that statement about closing Gitmo within a year was just another lie.
How about unemployment not going ablove 8% if the Porkulus bill was passed?
"Change has to go through Congress.'' - The dems have held a filabuster proof Congress - what could be easier to push thru his leftist agenda?

Wow! Read this one. It is really good. And this gentleman says it just like it is.
This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii
for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president. Consult : http://xrl.us/bgeewc

President Obama, a left of centrist, has 3 more years, in which he can still work to adjust the inequities of American economics and I hope he works towards those ends. Redistribution of the wealth, as you, Republican-Libertarians have use, to try and, ooh, scare America with and failed. A boogieman, from a bygone era, the communist paranoia era, doesn't make it anymore real. As a matter of fact, it makes it that much more laughable. Hopefully, you, the Republican-Libertarians will do your jobs, particularly in our Congress. Otherwise, yesterday's victory will be even shorter-lived. Try less obstructing and more cooperating and you will see, America will begin to work, again. President Obama is not going away for at least 3 years, so I think, in America's best interests, it would do the Republican-Libertariains well, to cease and desist with their hoping and praying that President Obama and Vice-President Biden fail. For it they fail, so does America.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

According to Nobama, everything remains the same. That shows his
complete lack of understanding of the situation in America. People want a voice and they want openness and compromise. They want responsible government. This guy still thinks he's still in Chicago doing his back room deals with payoffs, all in the dark of night. If he is too stupid to realize that he needs to make adjustments and start listening to the people than I am afraid he's in for a big fall!.

So, Obama is going to keep his far-left, economy draining agenda at full steam???
Are you sure that's the 'smart' thing to do, champ?

In related news, the captain of the Titanic has announced that he won't listen to those iceberg warnings and will continue to steam full speed ahead.
