The Swamp

The announcement by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter this week that he will not seek reelection created a choice opening for the state's Democrats -- not to mention a choice new target for the state's Republicans.

There's one, however, who will not seek that opening.

Ken Salazar, secretary of the Interior and former junior senator from Colorado, today announced that he is backing fellow Democrat John Hickenlooper, mayor of Denver, for governor.

"Colorado needs a strong, experienced leader with optimism and new ideas for carrying our state forward,'' Salazar said in a statement released today. "That is why I am endorsing John Hickenlooper for Governor of Colorado. John Hickenlooper is a uniter.''

In urging Hickenlooper to run, Salazar calls that a "personal decision'' that he must make, "and I will fully respect that decision.''

"As for me,'' Salazar said, "I have a job to do as secretary of the Interior to implement President Obama's vision for a clean energy economy and to better protect America's great outdoors."

Salazar, elected to the Senate in 2004, had been the first Democrat elected senator from the state since 1992. He was the first Hispanic elected to statewide office in Colorado, winning election as attorney general in 1998.

In one day at the Swamp, 3 free ads for 3 potential Dem senate candidates (ND, CT, CO). Way to go, Mark!

And please, Mark, continue not mentioning the probable GOP candidates in Colorado (Cong. Scott McInnis), CT (Ex-Cong. Rob Simmons), or ND (Gov. John Hoeven).

You did a great job in 2009 ignoring the GOP gubernatorial winners in NJ and VA, and writing only about the Dem losers. Keep it up!

Ken SalAzar will stay at the Dept of Interior until he has exterminated all the wild mustangs. Laws gave the wild mustang tens of thousands of acres of public range lands. These are the same lands that Obama and SalAzar want to put their windmills on. And they enjoy leasing public lands to for-profit cattle ranchers and other private corps. $$$. Remember An.-Busch: Drink a Bud--Kill a Mustang.

I've seen the range land and the mustangs. When you see them, or when you are allowed to see them, you feel, for a while, that all is well with the world--that there's a sense you are home to a home you have never been to before--that you are among something authentic, and uniquely American and free. This is needed more today than at any other time in our history. Has Obama ever looked upon that which he chooses to remove and exterminate? It is too bad horses can't make campaign or bribe contributions. $$$. How dare two inconsequential, temporary human beings do this to the wild horses, and to one of our few living trusts. Why not displace the statue of liberty or the Lincoln Memorial for the windmills, ranchers, An.-Busch and other for-profit corps.?

SalAzar and DOI say there is not enough room for the expanding herds of mustang. Many other herds (national parks) of animals are controlled by birth control. The mustang were allegedly controlled by the use of PZP. I was told recently by the BLM (of DOI) that it has been to "dangerous" to do a birth control program. It was too difficult. Lie. Also, I was told the BLM does not tag the mustang. This is proof that a serious birth control program was never implemented for the animals. There would need to be record keeping to know what horses had been darted or injected with the PZP every 2 years. I call BS on SalAzar and Obama. So, its easier for them to remove, kill, exterminate, and allow the slaughter of mustangs rather than to actually MANAGE them--as the BLM is entrusted to do. Poor, lazy SalAzar and Obama. SalAzar is supposedly to be steward of the land AND mustang herds. Instead, SalAzar and Obama are the executioners of the mustang and the sales/leasing agents of our public trust land. SalAzar really should go and be gov,-- senator--whatever will not be removing and killing the mustang in the western states.

Obama gave his word to us not to raise taxes on the middle class. He now wants to tax--sacrifice--the working middle class on health benefits to get his HCR "win". SalAzar and Obama also want to sacrifice OUR living trust to get a "win" by exterminating the mustang so they can stamp their names on wind farms to be located on OUR public range land originally designated for the animals. What's a horse going to do to a windmill, anyway?

The BLM today is not the BLM of yesterday when they really did act as custodians. The Salazar plan is a waste of taxpayer dollars, is cruel to the wild mustang, and does not reflect the opinion of the vast majority. The public is not allowed to witness the extermination of these horses via the roundup and is prevented access to some of the government facilities holding the mustangs. Mrs. Obama should plan a summer field trip for the White House children to view some of the herds; however, my fear is that none will remain in the wild past this Summer of 2010. Salazar's uneducated plan to relocate a token handful of the horses to "preserves" is not a viable plan that will ensure that ongoing health and genetic viability of this wild animal. The public should insist upon open hearings on this matter which could result in a fair solution so that the mustangs could be allowed to coexist with energy companies. Big money is driving this policy and is not willing to even remotely consider a solution which might work for all parties. This is our heritage, our land. Although his charter, Salazar is not interested in preserving a key part of our American history. My head is hung in shame at the continued actions of our Department of Interior, the BLM, and their roundup contractors. My heart is torn by the absolute lack of sensitivity and sheer arrogance of those implementing a policy of annihilation and destruction. This has been one of the most heart-wrenching, irrevocable, thoughtless, and cruel actions our Government has taken since the removal of the original tenants of these lands. I pray that together we can change this policy before it is too late and before more mustangs are killed.

It is too late. Consider the mustangs already extinct.

And wake up, America, we are next in line.
