Scott Brown, the little-known Republican state senator from Massachusetts who has claimed the Senate seat of the late and long-serving Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and with that election-upset deprived the Democratic Party of its super-majority in the Senate, says he is "a different kind of Republican.''
Brown, who defeated Democratic state Attorney General Martha Coakley in a special election Tuesday, says voters have responded for his call to "get back to basics'' iand solve the problems of unemployment and terrorism that threaten the nation. "People are hurting right now, and they thought we could do better...
"The first thing I'm going to do when I get to Washington is go meet everybody, Democrats and Republicans,'' Brown said in an interview on NBC News' Today show.
Brown campaigned as "the 41st vote'' in the Senate against the Democratic leadership's health-care legislation. When he is sworn in, the leadership will have only 59 votes, one shy of a filibuster-blocking majority on health-care and other issues.
"We do not need the plan that is being pushed upon us,'' he said today of the health-care legislation. "I think we should allow the states to do what's important for their own states.''
So what is "a Scott Brown Republican?'''
"it means somebody who's always been accountable... and looking at every single issue on its merits, whether it's a good Democratic idea or a good Republican idea,'' he said on Today. "I'm a different kind of Republican. I've always wanted to just go down and solve the problem, regardless of the party....
"We need to get back to the basics and start solving problems that affect every person in this country,'' Brown said.
Was his election a referendum on President Barack Obama?
"It's bigger than that,'' Brown said. "People are angry. They're tired of the backroom deals. They want transparency, they want good government, they want fairness and they want people working on solving their problems.''

He sounds like a typical Republican circa 1999. "Let's get back to basics, and terrrrrists." Do these black holes have anything else to offer? The last thing this country needs is to be buried under the leadership of more over pragmatic do nothing leaders with high hopes. How long before he is bought? I will take joy in listening to the dim princes and dim princesses rationalizing what sounds like a RIHNO in the making. It shouldn't be too hard as merits overshadowed by "states decide for states" is right up the Republican way, anyway.

The Democrats--not Scott Brown--made the Massachusetts race a referendum on ObamaCare.
Massachusetts, the only state that voted for McGovern, even Massachusetts said NO.

His rhetoric sounds the same to me. Brownie speaks in contradictions and was elected by mostly 'independent' voters. He's tired of backroom deals?? Where was he during the Bush administration?? If the Democrats had any backbone, they would amend the Senate rules, like the Republicans would have done a long time ago. Wait until he gets to Washington, we' ll all see what kind of Republican he really is.

What the Hey! O'l Slick Scotty Brown pulled a fast one. He masqueraded as an independent politician, even with his stage props, ( the pick-up truck and the Carhartt's) he really is a strict Republican't. The republicans do for the common millionaire's, not middle America. Maybe he will be exposed for what he is rather than what he said he is. Like his center-fold in Cosmopolitan, maybe some more of his skeletons will surface. The Republicans had control of the executive branch, legislative branch and the judicial branch for eight years under Bush and did nothing for this nation. They gave huge tax cuts to the wealthy, raided the treasury, started two wars and put this country on the slippery slope where we are today. Slick Scotty blames the democrats for Bush's blunders. The people of Massachusett's have been misled, Period! Remember the Republicans never do anything for this nation they only do things to this nation, because of their need for greed. whiteagle38

Heehee, I had a hunch that the Liberal heads are exploding at the Swamp. Brown didn't "Con" anyone, he ran on stopping the insane lunatics (the democratic party) from forcing this horrible heathcare bill on us.
I'm glad i sent Scott Brown money for his campaign, what a wonderful 1 year anniversary present to give Ozero.
congratulations Senator Brown!

It is the same rhetoric of all politicians
After 4 years it will be still the same. People will still be angry and another one will come and says the same. Problems are not solved from one day to another so they should stop telling lies to people. Bush and his gang have ruined US and the world and this will take more then 4 years to rebuild.

Isn't this exactly what Obama ran on? And haven't the Republicans been screaming NO NO NO every day?
Congratulations Sen Brown, but I'm still skeptical and I'll see if you really are different or if you are just another Republican foot soldier. Otherwise it might be a really quick two years for you.

Media and Democrats (often one and the same) only delude themselves if they do not learn the lesson from Massachusetts. Obama obviously did not, repeating his tired mantra saying that Mass. was simply "rejecting the past 8 years." No, the campaign was focused on Obamacare, the arrogant Democrats in Congress who draft bills in secret, the milksop attitude toward terrorists, and the sharp turn by Obama toward socialism. But, take heart. November is coming.

Scott Brown and Conservatism
Ok, it’s great news. Massachusetts State Senator Scott Brown trounced Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and will be heading to D.C. asap, hopefully driving his truck. (http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=5338)
The “Kennedy seat” can be termed the “Brown seat” for the next 3 years or so by Republican United States Senator Brown since he will be sitting in it. The Democrat/Kennedy death grip on that seat has been broken and Democrats in the super-blue Bay State couldn’t be much bluer if they held their breaths until the cows came home.
In an effort to shield Obama and his policies from valid criticism, the Dems are spinning crazily and blaming poor Martha Coakley for everything from meanness to ineptitude to being a closet Republican just because she blew a sure thing.
To their credit, the party big wigs have been unexpectedly gracious toward Brown and his victory with David Axelrod grudgingly conceding his “clever” campaign and Harry Reid pledging to seat the new senator posthaste and forego any cynical parliamentary delays.
All fine and good. Even better, Pelosi may be in trouble, Barbara Boxer’s seat is threatened, Reid’s 60 filibuster-proof senate votes just became 59 very filibusterable votes, and Obamacare should be cooked for the nonce unless Dems start playing numbers games with reconciliation.
So, God’s in His heaven, all’s right with the world–for now.
Speaker Nancy is no doubt lining up Blue Dogs to be shot at dawn if they don’t tow the Pelosi line and . . .
