In the world of political campaigning and media exposure, there is paid media, earned media and free media.
A seat in front of America at the start of the Super Bowl just may be the Super Bowl of free media. President Barack Obama will get that seat Sunday.
CBS News is billing the session as "the first broadcast interview since delivering the State of the Union address to Congress last week.''
Evening News anchor Katie Couric will interview Obama ilive, during CBS's pre-game program on Sunday. Questions will be taken from viewers across the country, and also on CBSNews.com
The president is pitching his domestic agenda -- with a new "No. 1 focus'' on jobs -- in a difficult political environment. Last year, when Obama was pushing for the economic stimulus, he invited several members of Congress over for a Super Bowl Party.
The president also was rooting for the Steelers in that game -- and Arizona's Sen. John McCain was suffering a second tough loss with his Cardinals. On CBS' Early Show the morning after, McCain lamented the loss for veteran QB Kurt Warner: "The old guy, Warner, almost won. For a change, an old guy almost won. I'm proud of him.''
This year, it's the post-Katrina Saints for Obama, as he told ABC News' Diane Sawyer, in the clip above run by Politico: "I think both teams are terrific. I guess I'm rooting a little bit for the Saints as the underdog, partly just because, when I think about what's happened to New Orleans over the last several years, and how much that team means to them, I'm pretty sympathetic.''

The city wants to make money. How much will they have to spend in extra security to watch his butt. New Orleans get the cash up front, he still owes Springfield 55k.

Somebody tell Couric that the Super Bowl is football not softball as she most certainly will lob softballs to Obama in the interview.
Posted by: Earnest in Evanston | February 3, 2010 6:01 PM
Correction: game kick-off is reproted to be 6:15-6:30 EST, as it is every year, not 2:00. 2:00 may be the pre-game coverage. Big difference!!

Wow, the President on tv talking again? As if he hasn't been on CNBC the past three days doing more of his pep-rallies. This guy hasn't met a camera he didn't like.

I'm quite sure that Obama will fare much better in this interview with Ms. Couric than Sarah Phee did back in 2008.
After all, Mr. Obama will be able to name at least SOME national publications that he has read, and will not make some outrageous claim that he can see Russia from his house ...

On Sunday morning I will be doing nothing more than walking around in my pj's, putting the beer ice, mixing up a batch of Rotel n Velveeta and pre-partying with a PHAT bloody mary. Watching Katie and Obama have a chat-love fest is down on the list next to severing my own head with a pen knife.
Posted by: jac holtzman | February 3, 2010 6:31 PM
Since published reports say Ms. Couric is about to take a huge pay cut and CBS is about to start a human bloodbath among the staff, maybe perky Katie will take off the gloves, pretend to be a journalist and give President Obama the same ambush treatment Dan Rather gave Bush #1.

I didn't know it was a bad thing for a President to want to talk to Americans.

I wouldn't listen to Ocommiebama talk about the weather forecast. When he comes on, the sound goes off. I haven't heard the goober say half a dozen words since before the election.
Katie Couric does for the TV-remote making industry what Ray Kroc did for McDonalds. Over one billion sold.
Water utilities, be ready for the massive number of toilets that will flush while this "interview" is running.

Why does he have to upstage the Superbowl? If he wants to be at the superbowl quietly great but this is a sporting event and a chance to relax and forget he is the President. I certainly won't watch him. This is just stupid.

And the following week, Obama will tell anyone who listens (journalists and other liberals, for example) that after over 450 speeches, interviews and press conferences and the half hour before the Super Bowl, that not enough people have heard him explain why he is smarter than everyone else, and that anyone who disagrees should just shut up and stop bothering him.
Now, if he says that he will tax CBS at 95% of the extra money they are getting for Super Bowl ads, that might get some people's attention.

One of the things the Obama administration has to learn, as well as the Fawning Media is that 80 percent of this country is sick and tired of seeing Obimbo all over the place. If he keeps it up, one of the reasons he'll lose in 2012 is because most people will want him out so they don't have to see or hear him every stinkin day! And especially with sporting events. Most of the time, the people want the politicians out of the sporting arena.

One period of pleasure in my recent status of being unemployed was when the President spent his Christmas holiday in Hawaii.
Now he's going to show up, uninvited, to my Super Bowl party. Stay home, Stay off the airwaves!
Do your job! Get people back to work!
My family of 6 brothers and sisters is experiencing 50% unemployment. This 50% is reprensented by 3 of 4, or 75%, of the son's of parents who had to endure the most vocal protests of the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War by the only one still employed. He has worked for the U.S.'s military industrial-defense complex for almost 20 years!
So stay off the airwaves and tell Katie to get me a beer!

Katie, don't forget to wear your cheerleading outfit with the short skirt and bring your pompoms. Practice your cheer too: "Obama Obama he's our man. If he can't screw America, nobody can!"
What a crock CBS is. This stunt just caused me to skip the CBS pre-game. I'm sure many more Americans will skip the CBS pre-game also. You folks at CBS must have your head so far up your rears that you would survive a nuclear explosion from 5 feet away.
I will be watching ESPN and Fox for their pre-game. Once they are over, I will not turn CBS on until the game starts.

Susan in Buffalo Grove you really are a liberal loon aren't you. Palin never said she could see Russia from her home that was said in a Saturday Night Live bit. Get educated before you post you just look a fool. And by the way what she said when Alaska was close to Russia and can be seen from Alaska, which may surprise you but you can on a clear day. Maybe you want to take some geography to.
Katie Couric is never going to ask Obama anything hard that might make him look bad. She should ask him about the tax increases in his budget that will include anybody that makes more than $20,000 a year. That's right you loony liberals remember all those tax cuts for the rich well they're about to expire and you will find out that they were not only tax cuts for the rich, you fools bought your own propaganda. And the true deficit numbers from last year have been figured out by the CBO. Bush left the deficit of $800 billion, Obama added in under a year $600 billion for a grand total of $1.4 trillion. And a projected deficit for Obama second year is now approaching $1.7 trillion, who are you going to blame that on. See now the numbers are a matter of public record and a website is free and open to all it is a government website after all. What a lot of people and Obama are not telling the public is that $500 billion from the TRAP program has been repaid. The total cost of that program was $700 billion, of which 200 billion we will never get back because it went to AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.
But I do wish Obama would quit campaigning. Obama is doing what he did when he became the U.S. Senate from Illinois. He took a little time off and then started running for a new office. It Illinois he was really are Sen. for only 164 days and now it seemed he has started campaigning for a second term.

Couric is a nothing and Obama should be concentrating on what he was elected to do instead of cameo appearances everywhere.

I know the Left Wing Media is trying to help Obama any way they can. But Sunday is the Super Bowl Day. Most Americans including many Democrats, except the Obama Cult, want to escape from the problems of the real world and watch a Championship Football game. They do not want to hear more Political Hot Air from Obama. The President should spend his time on coming up with some constructive programs dealing with the ever weakening economy and jobs, two very serious issues he ignored for his first year,

One of the elite members of the State-Run Media will interview the head Socialist and be sure only softball questions will be asked. The media worked hard to get a Socialist in the White House and will work hard to keep him there. I predict (and hope) Obama will not try for a 2nd term. By 2012 he will have had enough of this difficult job he was never qualified for and retire with the big pension, live in Hawaii and play lots of golf. He doesn't really like America and couldn't care less about it's future except to implement his favorite Marxist/Socialistic programs.
Posted by: RightWingBob | February 4, 2010 10:07 AM
If Obama wanted citizens to tune in to hear what he has to say may I suggest that Axelrod and Rahmbo, i.e. TweedleDee and TweedleDum, schedule this interview by Fox News. The questions might be a little harder than who he's rooting for?, where is the Nobel Prize he got out of his Cracker Jack box?, who's the latest celebrity chef the taxpayers paid to have flown into DC to prepare his late night snack since Michelle's worried that the girls are getting fat?, or how unjust is it that the Supreme Court leveled the playing field on political ads so we are exposed to something other than the propaganda the SEIU, AFCSME and UAW unions sppit out? I'm taking a pass on the SB this year to save myself from being exposed to this moron spending OPM anymore.
