Not long after emerging from a meeting with congressional leaders this afternoon, President Barack Obama unexpectedly took over his press secretary's daily briefing for reporters to give his own view of the state of bipartisanship -- declaring that he would set aside some Democratic "preferences" on some issues but warning that Republicans would also have to makes sacrifices, too.
"Bipartisanship depends on both Republicans and Democrats" giving in a little bit, Obama said, adding that he "won't hesitate to condemn obstinacy" where it crops up -- whethere it's on healthcare, fiscal responsibility or presidential nominations pending approval by the Senate.
But bipartisanship doesn't mean that "I have to agree to everything they want," the president said, or that Republicans have to given in completely.
The president's unusual appearance in the press briefing room in the West Wing of the White House came on the heels of what Obama says will be a regular bipartisan meetings with congressional leaders. Today's was held in the president's Cabinet room.
Republican leaders, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), came out of the meeting also pointing to places for possible compromise. Boehner said Republicans are "considering" the possibility of appointing members to Obama's fiscal commission, and didn't rule out the possibility of participating in a healthcare summit with the president later this month.
Still, GOP leaders signaled that they are not warm to the idea of simply tweaking the healthcare plans in their current state, and instead want to start from scratch and build something entirely new.
"We're interested in a bipartisan conversation," Boehner said, but a "bipartisan conversation ought to be that from the beginning."
In his conversation with reporters, Obama said he wouldn't let Democrats run roughshod over Republicans during their collaboration, but he also decried several moves which he views as overly partisan.
For one thing, he pointed out that his nominee to head the General Services Administration was held up for weeks in the Senate and then was approved easily.
"That's not advice and consent," the president said, but rather delay and obstruction.
He said that, if Republicans play politics with other nominees, he will consider making recess appointments -- nominating appointees during congressional breaks, side-stepping confirmation.
There are "legitimate and genuine differences" between the parties, the president said, but there's also "political posturing."
Americans, Obama said, "are tired of every day being Election Day here in Washington."

It's refreshing to see the WH take notice of growing frustration and outright anger over the dawdling pace of badly needed reforms. Going forward, voters are angry, they're looking for those at fault. There's no need to erect scapegoats when the actual perps can serve. Here's just a few examples.
On important issues, force Republicans to filibuster, not on paper, on the floor. It's doable and the lack of healthcare or a decent job is a hell of a lot bigger pain in the butt for us lowly non Senators. Let people tune into CSPAN and see some Republican stooge shut down the government and thwart popular sentiment by droning on about evil Nazi democrats, and people will get sick of it. Pretty soon that obstructionist's support will run for cover like roaches in a laser beam.
Fire someone who has failed spectacularly. Pick a cabinet official or committee chairman or whatnot that's wrapped up in Wall Street or healthcare, and demote them or kick them to the curb. This sends a powerful message throughout the Beltway and beyond that in the WH or Congress, just like in any other job the rest of us have, failure is not lavishly rewarded.
When something works, don't stop doing it. Be they bankstas or healthcare insurance executives, they are at fault and No One Likes Them. Keep them on the public hotseat, drag their sorry butts before committee and grill them mercilessly. Alternate with words from ordinary Americans whose lives have been utterly destroyed by these robber barons. Time it right and they can be stammering on about their bonuses and summer homes on one news channel even as a whack-a-doodle Republican blabber-mouth defends them with a filibuster on another (C-Span).
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Speeches are great, but this is the time for action. And these are just three examples out of a number of actions that can be taken right now, no cooperation from Republicans or right wing sell out blue dogs required. Take action, and not only do prospects improve in November, We the People could benefit forever.

Wow it only took him a little over a year to figure it out. Now maybe a few of the bills introduced by Republicans in the House of Representatives last year will finally make it onto the floor for debate. Or will the liberals in the house continue to hold back the 20+ bills relating to health care reform we will have to wait and see.

Here's the conclusion from a new poll which studies the mind of the average Republican simpleton in America.
Between 20% and 50% of the Republican party is either insane or mind-numbingly stupid, and Washington Post blogger Ezra Klein hints that the results show "a substantial portion of the Republican base is completely divorced from reality."

The GOP Wants to Take Away Your Social Security
It really is that simple. In the contest between tax breaks for Paris Hilton or corporate welfare for Exxon, and an ongoing multidecade contract with over 100 million Americans, judging by the latest Republican 'budget' priorities, they're working for Paris Hilton:
First, it calls for big cuts in Social Security benefits for everyone currently under 55 years of age. On top of the cuts it also calls for privatizing Social Security.

Republicans want to cut your social security until it bleeds to death and toss the drained corpse into the jaws of Wall Street. Reason? To transfer your money to the wealthiest people on earth and stick you with the bill. So, democrats, do you have a simple five-second elevator pitch at the ready for why people should vote for you this Fall? If not, how about "Republicans are going to steal your social security and give it to rich people"?

Frank Rich and the State of Liberal Commentary
The New York Times columnist offers insults in the guise of thought.
-
Not a single serious argument from proponents of DADT was cited, nor did Rich offer a single argument in behalf of repealing it. Instead, the article was a smear of all who support retaining that policy or the male-female definition of marriage. The article contains 71 sentences. Twelve contain an insult.
It is commonplace for liberals and leftists to avoid refuting conservative arguments and just dismiss conservatives with one of seven epithets: “racist,” “bigoted,” “sexist,” “intolerant,” and the three phobias, “homophobic,” “xenophobic,” “Islamophobic.”

Americans Reject Keynesian Economics
*
While influential 20th Century economist John Maynard Keynes would say it’s best to increase deficit spending in tough economic times, only 11% of American adults agree and think the nation needs to increase its deficit spending at this time. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% disagree and say it would be better to cut the deficit.
In fact, 59% think Keynes had it backwards and that increasing the deficit at this time would hurt the economy rather than help.
To help the economy, most Americans (56%) believe that cutting the deficit is the way to go.
Eighty-three percent (83%) of Americans, in fact, say the size of the federal budget deficit is due more to the unwillingness of politicians to cut government spending than to the reluctance of taxpayers to pay more in taxes.

Why no comments from the media on president corpse man?
If President Bush had said this - that's all you'd see on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC etc.
I guess obama's intellect is about as difficult to find as the WMD's.
What's the total killed under obama's reign? Doesn't the media care about our troops anymore? Or is it just proof of how biased the media truly is nowadays!

YOU SHOW ME A REPUBLICAN WHO SAYS THEY'RE GOING TO FIX THE ECONOMY AND I'LL SHOW YOU A LIAR.
The Historic Failure Of Republican Economic Policy
"Republicans are enamored by "supply-side" economics. Frankly, I have to admit it's a very easy sell. Think about it. "Cutting tax rates stimulates the economy to such a high level that tax revenues increase." However, there are several problems with this theory. The first is Republicans have not implemented the other side of "supply-side economics" -- a corresponding cut in government spending. This has ballooned the federal debt to dangerous levels under their economic stewardship. In addition, the projected increase in government revenues really haven't materialized as projected. In other words, supply-side economics is a great marketing concept, but in reality is a poor national policy."

If the Dems really wanna end the Republican party and their electoral future they should roll back the Reagan Tax cuts. Why should labor pay a tax rate double that of capital? Capital doesn't create demand, wages do! And with 70% of GDP dependent on Consumer Spending, how can ANYONE argue otherwise with a straight face??? The mentality that the key to economic growth is giving the rich even more has proved to be an EPIC FAIL. Republicans took 200 years of American economic history, turned it on its head, and flushed America down the toilet. Please DRIVE A STAKE through the heart of the Supply Side Republican Vampires...

REPUBLICANS ONLY CARE ABOUT SPENDING WHEN THEY'RE OUT OF POWER.
"Reagan proved deficits don't matter."
- Dick Cheney
"Dick Cheney once observed that "deficits don't matter," which may well have been the most honest phrase he ever uttered. His words were at least partly true, which is more than can be said for the great majority of the vice president's remarks -- and they certainly expressed the candid attitude of Republicans whenever they attain power. His pithy fiscal slogan should remind us that much of the current political furor over deficit spending in the Obama budget is wrong, hypocritical, and worthy of the deepest skepticism."
"In our time, the Republican Party has compiled an impressive history of talking about fiscal responsibility while running up unrivaled deficits and debt. Of the roughly $11 trillion in federal debt accumulated to date, more than 90 percent can be attributed to the tenure of three presidents: Ronald Reagan, who used to complain constantly about runaway spending; George Herbert Walker Bush, reputed to be one of those old-fashioned green-eyeshade Republicans; and his spendthrift son George "Dubya" Bush, whose trillion-dollar war and irresponsible tax cuts accounted for nearly half the entire burden. Only Bill Clinton temporarily reversed the trend with surpluses and started to pay down the debt (by raising rates on the wealthiest taxpayers)."

President Obama to GOP: Work with me
-
President Barack Obama said Tuesday he’s prepared to cut deals with Republicans in order to create jobs and improve the nation’s health care system, but he said he’s seen few signs so far that the GOP is willing to support any of his policy initiatives.
“I’m willing to move off of some of the preferences of my party in order to meet them halfway, but there’s got to be some give from their side as well,” Obama said during a surprise visit to the White House briefing room following a meeting with congressional leaders from both parties. “I also won’t hesitate to condemn what I consider to be obstinacy,” he warned.

Felony Snowball Tossing Charges Lodged
Cops: Virginia college students pelted city plow, unmarked police car
FEBRUARY 9--Felony snowball throwing charges have been leveled against two Virginia college students for allegedly pelting a city plow and an undercover police car during Saturday's blizzard. Charles Gill and Ryan Knight, both 21, were nabbed by cops in Harrisonburg, where they attend James Madison University. According to police, the pair first targeted a city plow last Saturday afternoon. The driver responded by calling cops to report the frosty fusillade. When police responded to the scene in a bid to identify the assailants, their unmarked vehicle also came under an icy assault. Gill and Knight, a guard on JMU's basketball team, were then apprehended and booked into jail for throwing missiles at occupied vehicles, a felony. Gill (top) and Knight are pictured below in Rockingham County Sheriff's Office mug shots. If convicted of the felonious snowball tossing, the men each face between one and five years in prison, and a maximum $2,500 fine.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
"Washington Times: GOP lawmakers privately admit stimulus created jobs"
If there's one thing that unites the Republican Party it's their phony claim that the stimulus bill was a job-killing piece of legislation that was the worst thing in the whole entire world for the economy, right? Or maybe that's just what unites them in public, because in private the Washington Times reports they've been working overtime to get their hands on job-creating stimulus cash.
Remember Joe "You Lie" Wilson?
"Rep. Joe Wilson, South Carolina Republican who became famous after yelling, "You lie," during Mr. Obama's addresses to Congress in September, voted against the stimulus. Nonetheless, Mr. Wilson elbowed his way into the rush for federal stimulus cash in a letter he sent to Mr. Vilsack on behalf of a foundation seeking funding. "We know their endeavor will provide jobs and investment in one of the poorer sections of the Congressional District," he wrote to Mr. Vilsack in the Aug. 26, 2009, letter.

Kudos to the Washington Times for having done the leg work of filing the FOIA requests to expose these examples of Republican lawmakers talking out of both sides of their mouths, publicly lambasting the stimulus as a job-killing measure, but privately conceding that it actually created jobs. It's hard to imagine a more effective way of demonstrating Republican hypocrisy on the question of whether the stimulus bill creates jobs, and Dems should remind them of it every waking day.

NEW WAPO POLL: TWO THIRDS OF VOTERS SAY SCREW REPUBLICANS AND PASS COMPREHENSIVE REFORM!!!
Obama and Congressional leaders will head into the healthcare summit (which Eric Cantor has agreed to) with some good polling backing them up for finishing the job, even without Republicans.
"Americans spread the blame when it comes to the lack of cooperation in Washington, and, in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, most want the two sides to keep working to pass comprehensive health-care reform. Nearly six in 10 in the new poll say the Republicans aren't doing enough to forge compromise with President Obama on important issues; more than four in 10 see Obama as doing too little to get GOP support. Among independents, 56 percent see the Republicans in Congress as too unbending and 50 percent say so of the president; 28 percent of independents say both sides are doing too little to find agreement."
*
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/behind-the-numbers/2010/02/americans_spread_the_blame_whe.html
*
WaPo can call that "spreading the blame," but with 58 percent saying the Republicans are resisting compromise, the summit can provide much needed clarity on where the hold up remains. At the same time, healthcare reform can't fail--this summit can't be used as an attempt to shift the blame to the Republicans and set up a failure. Too many people are counting on reform.
Look at that graph--63 percent want comprehensive reform to pass, and more Independents want to see it pass than Republicans want to see it fail. But a note of caution, while the blame is primarily falling on Republicans now, ultimately the blame will be shared if it fails, and the bulk of it would fall on Obama and the Dems, since they are in charge.

Nate Silver nails it..........BAZINGA!!!!!
Those of you that follow Nate over on 538 have probably appreciated his keen analysis of political events based on the nexus of good sound statistical analysis coupled with political insight. Silver has been the top rated pollster for two years running now.
Republicans -- Not Obama -- More Often on Wrong Side of Public Opinion
If you were to follow the Repub talking points, Faux News and most of the Republican sock puppets in the corporate media, you would reach the conclusion that Obama is clearly on the wrong side of the political mainstream. However, if you look at Nate's analysis, it's clear that for the most part, Obama is on the right side of public opinion. If that is the case, then does it beg the question that Obama might have squandered some of his first year in office by not exploiting this fact. I guess one can argue that had he been more forceful in pushing the Republicans AND using the bully pulpit to convince the population that he was not pushing a radical agenda, like so many blame him for, then he might have achieved a lot more of his agenda AND kept the Republicans on the defensive. This would support those who insist that Obama needs to push harder for his election manifesto rather than keep looking for bi-partisan support.
It also points out that those Democrats who are getting cold feet may also be on the wrong side of the arguments. And come election time, when the general public will be paying a lot more attention, they may be better off running with Obama rather than away from him.
This is exactly what everyone has been clamoring for. He is finally taking on the Republican Liars. This could be fun. He apparently had a sharp exchange with Sray Tan Boehner and accused him of wanting to sabotage Obama's entire agenda. Now , it looks like he is telling them that he is not going to wait for them to lift their holds on his nominations anymore!! This could be GAME ON..finally!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the gloves are going to start coming off!!! Maybe he is going to take it to them?

THE DEMOCRATS HAVE CONTROLLED BOTH THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE AND THEY STILL CANNOT GET A HEALTH BILL PASSED.
Republicans have had ZERO input, because Obama, Reid and Pelosi can dictate what they want and are still unable to ram through their plan, BECAUSE DEMOCRATS CANNOT AGREE ON A HEALTH CARE BILL.
