Ben Quayle, son of a former vice president, plans to run for Congress in Arizona, father Dan Quayle announced today in an appearance on FOX News.
And here came word from another former Republican vice president -- Bush 41's political partner -- about the Obama administration: Quayle accused President Barack Obama of having a "''we know best" attitude,'' some who "does talk down to the American people.''
Quayle also said today that he is sure that there are days when Obama wishes he hadn't named Eric Holder attorney general. (No word, though, on whether Bush 43 might have regretted his major choices of A.G.'s -- John Ashcroft and Roberto Gonzales).
On FOX News Channel's America Live today, Quayle told the network's Megyn Kelly that son Ben is running.ressional District.
"It's the next generation of leadership,'' the former one-term vice president said. "The big news is my son Ben Quayle today filed his papers for congressman of the 3rd congressional district here in Arizona.... That in the Quayle family is big news.''
Quayle, who ran with Bush 41 in 1988, had this to say about Sarah Palin, his party's nominee for vice president 20 years later:
"She's able to capture that anxiety, she's able to capture that really -- attack this "we know best" attitude in Washington starting with the president of the United States, who does talk down to the American people, and the American people don't like it,'' Quayle said . And she's really rallying those forces...
."She has a large following of support, a large following of detractors. My guess is she doesn't really know today if she will run for president or not."
The father insisted the son will run with his own strategy -- "It's his campaign. I'll do whatever he wants me to do or whatever he doesn't want me to do.''
It's the terrorist trial question where Quayle is critical of Holder -- and the initial decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9/11 mastermind, in a federal courthouse in New York City. "Let's face it, he's a terrorist he's a combatant. Eric Holder said he is going to be found guilty so what are we doing?''
"Obviously I'm fairly certain that there are days that President Obama wonders why he appointed Eric Holder Attorney General. Even though he's a nice gentleman, he does have some pretty far out ideas and seems to be fairly stubborn on those ideas."
